The Knight of Swords

When the Knight of Swords comes up to indicate a man, he will be
intelligent, subtle and clever. His capacity for abstract thought will
be well developed. He is also highly intuitive and perceptive.

His nature will be elusive and ethereal, yet he has a strength and
fascination that is hard to deny. He compels attention, except when he
doesn't want it, and at those times you will not even notice him pass
by.

Because of the enquiring and analytic nature of his mind, you will
often find him involved in occult study, and following spiritual
pursuits. Whilst tolerant of those who know less than him, he will not
divulge his knowledge easily. Rather those who wish to learn from him
must fight to see him clearly, rather than falling for the projections
he readily casts around him.

If this man is badly dignified his subtlety turns to manipulation, and
his fascination to glamour. In this way, he becomes unprincipled and
self-seeking. There is a certain ruthlessness present in the Knight of
Swords at all times.

Even when we meet him at his best, he makes a hard task master, and an
acutely keen observer. The sword in his hand will quite often be used
to cut to the heart of things - and sometimes we will not be
comfortable with what is revealed.

When this card comes up to indicate a state of mind in a man not
normally seen as a Knight of Swords, we are then dealing with quite
another issue. Now we must address the darkest qualities of the card.
This is an angry man, who has quite possibly been emotionally hurt,
and may well be looking for revenge.

He has the potential to be physically violent and mentally cruel. He
is a nasty enemy and somebody who needs to be treated with the utmost
caution.

Working with the Knight of Swords

This card brings in a swift, bright energy which clears our heads,
allowing us to see right the way to the heart of things, undistracted
by clutter or red herrings. Here we can 'cut to the chase' so to
speak, avoiding any of the tempting, but wasteful, side issues that
may come up around important issues.

If you flow well with this energy, you'll finding yourself thinking
quickly and clearly, finding unexpected solutions to apparently
intractable problems. Matters which had, until now, refused to yield
their solutions, will suddenly start willingly spitting them out, so
you can clear several obstacles from your path on a day ruled by the
Knight of Swords.

Intuition plays quite a strong role here, too, as you move into closer
touch with your psychic ability, thereby accessing answers to awkward
questions which you had before felt frustrated by.

Accordingly, on a day ruled by the Knight of Swords, pick out the
things which have been giving you headaches in the last little while.
Spend a little time (not too much) considering the apparent obstacles
and difficulties of the problem. Then forget it! At some point during
the day, a solution should quite simply pop into your head. Also keep
a close watch on your dreams overnight - these may contain the answers
you seek. You can probably get away with dealing with two medium
serious problems - but if you have one BIG one, only concentrate on
that.

Also be alert to messages and hints coming through the normal patterns
of life. Sometimes you'll get explanations from the most unexpected
sources.

Affirmation: Every problem contains the seed of its own resolution.

KING OF SWORDS

Attribution - Taurus-Gemini Cusp (20 degrees Taurus to 20 degrees Gemini)

Kings are the most highly evolved energy of their suits - fathers,
mature men, leadership, authority, principled action, public
recognition, the ability to get things done, honours, awards,
celebrations.

Swords is the suit of the intellect. It represents air, authority,
thought, reason, justice, truth and ethical principles. It is
knowledge, conflict, struggles and turmoil.

Rider-Waite Imagery

The suit of swords is about thoughts, ideas, plans and anything
intellectual. The number 10 is completion, endings that make ways for
new beginnings. Shown on this card is a man face down with 10 swords
stuck in his back. The swords are stuck into his back along the spine.
The sky is black (ignorance, delusion) at the top of the card but
there are gray (intrusion of the divine) clouds and the sky near the
horizon is yellow (healing and redemption). There are purple (brings
opposites together) mountains (limitations of mind) in the distance.
The man is lying on the brown (practicality) earth at the edge of a
still lake (emotions).

Reversed: Cruelty, perversity, barbarity, perfidy, evil intention.

Some Additional Meanings of the Lesser Arcana:

Retrograde Motion

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will be retrograde at times
during 2012.

Mercury Rx will delight us, as usual, with interrupted communication,
malfunction or complete failure of computers and other electronic
devices and general uncertainty and confusion concerning any
contracts, legal documents or agreements.

Mercury will be retrograde

12 March until 4 April

15 July until 8 August

6 November until 26 November

Venus Rx in Gemini will remind us of personal characteristics, which
have been dormant in us for the last eight years and are in need of
revision.

Venus will be retrograde

15 May until 27 June

Mars Rx in Virgo will highlight problems concerning the repression or
lack of energy. Much of the available potential will be directed
towards the fulfilment of intellectual tasks.

Mars will be retrograde

24 January until 14 April

Jupiter Rx in Gemini will remind us of his prudent side; with Jupiter
s help we are able to fulfil our potential but in his Rx phase, he
demands that we obey the rules, follow our moral guidelines and show
kindness and compassion.

Jupiter will be retrograde

4 October until 30 January 2013

Saturn Rx in Libra may be a challenging time for the accomplishment in
all areas of creative development. Many barriers will have to be
overcome and progress will be slow.

Saturn will be retrograde

7 February until 25 June

--

Out of Bounds

When Planets exceed the 23 °27' area of the Sun's max declination,
north or south, they are called "Out of Bounds."

During these times, the OOB Planets will be out of the Sun s control;
therefore a heightened activity of all themes corresponding with the
appropriate Planets can be expected.

Mercury will be OOB

7 January until 21 January

30 May until 19 June

31 October until 6 November

26 December until 14 January 2013

Venus will be OOB

2 April until 4 June

Mars will be OOB

26 October until 10 December

--

Sign Ingress

Jupiter will move into Gemini on 11 June, delivering a boost to all
intellectual endeavours, like writing, publishing, etc.

Saturn will move into Scorpio on 5 October, leaving his exalted
placement in Libra.

--

Noteworthy Aspects

Mars will be perfecting an opposition to Jupiter Rx on 28 October.
With Jupiter in his detriment in Gemini, some protest against rules
and regulations, rebellions against superiors and other demonstrations
can be expected.

The worthless word for the day is: frenemy

[blend of friend and enemy]

Someone with whom one is friendly, despite a fundamental dislike or
rivalry; someone who combines the characteristics of a friend and an
enemy

"Howz about calling the Russians our Frienemies?"

- Walter Winchell, Nevada State Jrnl 19 May, 1953

"Once she'd sat down, she realized that she had sort of ducked past
the mirror without looking at it, as if her own reflection were a
deeply estranged frenemy with whom she could not possibly make eye
contact."
