A Day to Savor

This is a day to savor, and now is your opportunity to do so. It
has not come before and it will not come again, so this is the moment
to live it.

Today has its own unique treasures to offer. Accept them, enjoy
them, live them and learn from them while they are here.
This day is not just some abstract concept or number on a
calendar. It is a one-of-a-kind living experience in which you are
immersed right now.

This day may not be perfect, and yet it is immensely better than
no day at all. By living it with enthusiasm and positive expectation,
you can make this day the best one yet.

Go ahead and do what you've always wanted to do. Go ahead and
feel the joy, go ahead and live the fulfillment, go ahead and be the
authentic and beautiful you.

This is your day to savor, to appreciate, and to fill with rich,
meaningful experience. Live it, love it and let it be one you never
forget.

~~Ralph Marston

My child, as you sit at My feet you shall learn more of Me and the
more you know and understand Me you shall love Me more. God is love
and as He draws one unto Himself, He draws them with a spirit of love,
and a spirit of love they shall attain. No one can spend time with Me
without attaining a spirit of love for it is through the spirit that
one will ever have fellowship with Me, for all the children of God
have the Holy Spirit abiding but sadly all do not walk in the spirit
and all do not always have the same spiritual nature for some seeks a
deeper infilling than does others. One is not to judge himself more
spiritual or to be proud or vain in what they have attained for was
the spirit not given to you from the Lord? One is to judge others
better than themselves or put others before themselves. It is true
that one is able to see through eyes of the spirit when one is lacking
but by prayers and communication one can grow in their faith walk but
is always through spending time in praise and worship in sweet
fellowship with your loving heavenly Father. All are in much need of
time spent with the Lord. Your loving heavenly Father is always
willing and anxious to spend more time with you.

Make Your Choices Real

"A choice is not really a choice, until you act upon it."

If you decide to act on your best beliefs, then, don't follow
through - you are buying into "indecision."

Indecision and procrastination are what we do to avoid the
responsibility of putting our choices into action. If you find
yourself always in a state of indecision, perhaps you are trying to do
too much and need to break things down into smaller digestible steps.
Perhaps your decision is not in line with your values or some
important aspect of your life. You may need to reevaluate what you're
trying to do.

Remember that you will never know if a decision is right or
wrong until it's acted upon. Every important decision involves risk
and sometimes trade-offs. If you have a decision to make, make it
today. And, more importantly, act on it today.

Bring the best to life
+++++++++++++++++++

Be at peace with what has been. That enables you to focus all
of your attention and energy into making the best of what
can be.

Let go of the need to prove you're right. Instead,
concentrate your thoughts and efforts on being your best.

Get beyond your worries about what may or may not happen, or
what other people might think of you. Invest yourself in the
real and present actions you can take to make a positive
difference.

Your life is too important to waste even a moment or two on
things you can't do anything about. There is so very much
you can do instead, and so very many things you can
positively influence.

Put all your efforts into what will bear fruit. Give your
time and attention to the things that have meaning and value
for you.

Feel love instead of fear, joy in the place of worry, and
focus on your possibilities instead of resentments.
Visualize life at its best, and bring the best to life.

We are the Clay
"Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand." Isaiah 64:8

We are the work of our Heavenly Father's hand. He is taking a
worthless clump of clay and with the application of pressure, water,
and a great deal of spinning, shaping us into a beautiful vessel. We
will find that it is through the trials and the application of His
truth in our lives that we will become a masterpiece. Sometimes we
feel as if our lives are spinning out of control, but we can be
assured that the Master Potter knows exactly how much turmoil is
necessary in our lives. Do you find yourself resisting the pressures
in your life? Do you sometimes want to jump off the potter's wheel and
say I have had enough pain and turmoil in my life, I can take no more?
I think we have all been there, but our job if we wish to become a
vessel of honor for God's use is to submit to Him and to the
experiences He places in our lives. The work of submission, of
yielding ourselves to the work that the Heavenly Potter is performing
in our lives is not always
an easy task, but it is a necessary one. One that will allow Him to
work with us, to shape this worthless bit of clay into a beautiful
vessel for His use. Someday if we learn the lesson of submission we
will see the results of our working together with our Father, we will
become His masterpiece, a vessel to bring glory and honor to His name!
Father, thank You for taking this worthless lump of clay and making me
into a vessel for Your honor and glory. Thank You for working a
miracle in my life. May the beauty of what You are making of me rise
up to You and bring You all the glory and honor that You so richly
deserve. Amen

You Are Not AloneWhen I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3
God said, "I will not forsake my people!"

The Lord is with us. And with Him near—everything is different. Everything!
Even a serious illness. Even death. You aren't facing illness or
death alone—the Lord is with you.

You may be facing marital struggles, but you aren't facing them alone.
The Lord is with you!

You may be facing debt, but you aren't facing debt alone. The Lord is with you.

Your family may turn against you, but God won't.

Your friends may betray you, but God won't.

You may feel alone in the wilderness, but you are not. He is with you!

Devotional For Dieters 1/17

January 17

Psalm 37:18
The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall
be for ever.

God honestly does know what we suffer through when we try to lose
weight. He sympathizes with us in all our suffering, but He can also
see the prize that awaits us. He knows the inheritance that is to
come. Even when we have difficulty keeping our eyes focused on the
goal, we can turn to God, who will strengthen us by His own strength.
He always sees us as what we can potentially be: slim, trim, and
healthy. It is important for us to try to see ourselves the same way
God sees us. Remember, once weight is lost, the struggle is not
completely over, but we need not ever return to obesity. The fruits of
our labors, our inheritance, can last forever.

Today's thought: God wants to see us achieve our goal!

Return to me, and I will return to you," says the Lord Almighty.
( Malachi 3:7 *NIV )

There are times that we may find ourselves walking far from God. Know
that if ever that happens to you it is because we have moved, not
because God has left us.
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never
leave you nor forsake
you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
( Deuteronomy 31:8 )

Now perhaps we find ourselves feeling abandoned by God because we are
overwhelmed with problems, or because of the loss of a loved one. If
that is the case remember that; He does not willingly bring affliction
or grief to the children of men.
( Lamentations 3:33 )

Therefore if you ever find yourself feeling far from our Heavenly
Father, remember, that God is there with open arms to receive you
back. So; Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him:
Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously.
For then He will say; I will heal your backslidings.
( HOSEA 14:2-3 ) ( Jeremiah 3:22 ) After all that is His promise
always; for; Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and
forever. ( Hebrews 13:8 )

So if you are feeling far from God right now; Let us examine our ways
and test them, and let us return to the Lord. For He loves you very
much!
( Lamentations 3:40 )

Now may; The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine
upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and
give you peace." ( Numbers 6:24-26 ) and may His; Grace be with you
all. Amen.
( Hebrews 13:25 )

Honesty
I am honest with myself and with others.
Each day brings opportunities for me to be honest with myself and
others. Observing my thoughts and actions, I know which ones are true,
honorable and in alignment with my innate goodness. If I am not
expressing my best, I turn to the Christ within and realign my self-
talk, adjust my behaviors, and work to make things right.

Being honest with myself is one way I show self-respect and self-
regard. I acknowledge my Christ Spirit, appreciate my strengths, and
recognize growth areas. I make changes and seek help when needed. I
build relationships with honest communication. I offer opinions, make
requests, and share my feelings with respect and positive intentions.

These are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an
honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.--Luke
8:15

Developing a Vibrant Faith

Acts 9:1-16

The apostle Paul had a strong commitment to know and serve Jesus
Christ. His passion and love for the Lord was obvious—Jesus was always
central in his thinking, whether he was working as a tent maker,
preaching to the crowd, or even sitting in chains at prison. What
fueled his love for the Lord?

Paul's conversion experience on the Damascus Road was a motivating
force in his life. Grateful for the gift of grace he had received at
salvation, the apostle told many people about his encounter with the
resurrected Christ and its impact on him. We, too, have a story to
tell of God's mercy in saving us and of the new life we have in Him.

Paul's zeal also came from his firm conviction that the gospel message
was true and available to everyone (John 3:16). On the cross, Jesus
took all our sins—past, present, and future—upon Himself (1 Pet.
2:24). He suffered our punishment so that we might receive forgiveness
and be brought into a right relationship with God. Through faith in
Christ, we've been born again, and the indwelling Holy Spirit helps us
every day (John 14:26). The more we understand what Jesus has
accomplished on our behalf, the greater will be our passion to share
the gospel.

Developing a vibrant faith requires time and energy plus a commitment
to obey God. Regularly studying the Bible will strengthen your beliefs
and give you courage to speak. Caring about the spiritual welfare of
others will move you into action. Do you have a passion to serve Jesus
wherever He leads?

Coffee Break

"Sin Size"

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

"... from all unrighteousness." The blood of Jesus doesn't "pick and
choose" which sins it forgives and washes away. It washes away "all"
of them. We tend to "categorize" sin. We have what we consider "big"
sins and "little" sins. And we think that for some reason the "big"
ones are either too big for Jesus' blood to forgive or it takes "more"
of the blood to take care of them. Then we think that the "little"
ones aren't important enough or are too small to bother with- they are
so small that the Lord will just let them "slide by". Neither
thinking is correct. Sin is sin- big, little or somewhere in
between. All sin has to be dealt with. All sin was taken care of by
the blood of Jesus.

How small a sin is too small that it is all right for it to be in our
lives? Let's say that you have a 55 gallon container full of pure
fresh water. If you take one small drop of raw sewage and dropped it
in that container of water, would you still drink it? I wouldn't.
The water has been contaminated by what? Gallons of raw sewage? No,
by one small drop.

How big a sin is too big? We tend to think that mass murders, rapist,
people who cheat hundreds of people out of their life savings, are
sins that are too big to be forgiven by the blood of Jesus. That is
not what the Bible tells us, and it gives us examples of those who did
such things and had their sins forgiven and washed clean. We better
be glad that God washes away the "big" ones as well. Because we don't
know that we might not be the ones whose sins are too big to be
forgiven. If sin had a size, who would determine the "size"- whether
they are little or big? God would be the one. How would we know that
what we consider small He might actually consider big- so that left us
out of having our sins forgiven.

I am so thankful that the bottom line is: Jesus shed His blood for
all, because all have sinned. And His blood was and is powerful
enough to take care of every sin- regardless- and wash away even the
stain that might otherwise be left behind.

Have a great day. If sin had a size, the blood of Jesus would still
be powerful enough to take care of them all.

If
that is the case remember that; He does not willingly bring
affliction or grief to the children of men.
( Lamentations 3:33 )

Therefore if you ever find yourself feeling far from our Heavenly
Father, remember, that God is there with open arms to receive you
back. So; Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him:
Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously. For then He will say;
I will heal your backslidings.
( HOSEA 14:2-3 ) ( Jeremiah 3:22 ) After all that is His promise
always; for; Jesus Christ is the
same yesterday and today and forever.
( Hebrews 13:8 )

So if you are feeling far from God right now; Let us examine our ways
and test them, and let us
return to the Lord. For He loves you very much!
( Lamentations 3:40 )

Now may; The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine
upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and
give you peace." ( Numbers 6:24-26 )
and may His; Grace be with you all. Amen.
( Hebrews 13:25 )

Nehemiah's Arrow Prayer

"'I was very much afraid' The king said to me, 'What is it you want?'
Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the
king." (NEHEMIAH 2:2B, 4-5A)

Scripture Focus: Nehemiah 2:1-9

Nehemiah was cup bearer to Artaxerxes, King of Persia. The king could
execute anyone who displeased him. Even showing negative emotions in
his presence was dangerous. But Nehemiah was downhearted, and it
showed. When he approached Artaxerxes, he risked his life. "Why does
your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but
sadness of heart," Artaxerxes said (vs. 2).

How would the king respond to his request to return to his homeland?
He had fasted and prayed before approaching the king. Now Nehemiah
prayed for guidance before answering. With mingled fear and faith, he
sought God's direction in a short "arrow prayer."

My faith falters at times as did Nehemiah's. Emotions, problems, or
pain keep me from realizing God is always ready to hear and answer
even my short "arrow prayers." Sometimes I am at a loss for words. But
the Holy Spirit guides (see Romans 8:26), and God's own Son, Jesus,
intercedes. Our Savior loves us and hears our every cry.

Insight: We don't need to be free from fear and strong in faith for
our loving God to hear us and answer even our "arrow prayers".

January 17, 2012 *[image: Daily Devotional] * *An island within**
**I rise before dawn and cry out for help; I put my hope in Your word.
Psalm 119:147, HCSB*

Some Bible teachers say: "If you are filled with the Spirit, then you can
draw from God's resources, not just at the beginning of the day, but every
hour of the day. Better a fountain in the heart than a fountain by the
way."This confuses two quite separate issues. It is perfectly true that by
reason of the Spirit's indwelling, we can draw upon His resources moment by
moment, but that does not do away with the need for a daily quiet time.

One writer puts it like this: "Those who say they can live in a state of
prayer without stated times for prayer will probably find themselves
without both. It is as futile as thinking that you can live in a state of
physical nourishment without stated times for nourishment." I believe with
all my heart that the divine Shepherd seeks daily to lead His sheep to the
"still waters" of His Word, and how sad it is that so many Christians
prefer to drink from the polluted pools of the world. The poet says:

What a frail soul He gave me, and a heart
Lame and unlikely for the large events.

I wonder if, more often, we haven't given ourselves "a heart lame and
unlikely for the large events." God has given us infinite resources through
prayer and the reading of the Scriptures. They are ours for the asking and
the taking. The quiet time creates an island of quiet within us, and that
becomes the atmosphere of the day.

*Daily Prayer*
O Father, help me come to the quiet time with quiet expectancy - expectancy
that here my weakness shall become strength, my doubt become faith, my
fears become courage, and my sin become redemption. I ask this for Your own
dear name's sake. Amen.

(Click

Our party of canoeists were caught in a sudden thunderstorm on a
swift-flowing river. What a welcome sight was the craggy island jutting up
before us. We docked our canoes, took shelter under an overhang and
gratefully ate one of the strangest, but most welcome, meals ever: soggy
tortillas slathered with peanut butter and filled with fresh blueberries.
Against flash floods, the pounding mid-day sun, or attacks from wild
animals, great rocks were of supreme value to the ancient Hebrews. Ponder
how God has been a rock, a fortress, for you when you have been up against
adversaries you couldn't have faced up to on your own.

*Gracious Lord, be forever our rock, salvation and fortress that no matter
how upset or chaotic our lives become we would not be shaken. Amen. *

*Matthew & Simon*

*Jesus ...saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to
him, "Follow Me." Matthew 9:9 (NKJV) *
*

He [Jesus] called His disciples to Himself...Simon called the Zealot. Luke
6:13-15 (NKJV)

Individually, Matthew and Simon are interesting characters. But combined,
they take our interest to a new level. Jesus specifically chose these men
to be in His inner circle. They were two of the twelve men that accompanied
Jesus on His ministry travels. They walked together, camped out together,
ate together, served together...basically, they did life together.

Why is that so interesting? We know that before Matthew followed Jesus, he
was a tax collector. In those days, tax officials were appointed by the
Romans who occupied the Jewish homeland. So if you were a Jewish tax
collector, as Matthew was, you were regarded as a traitor who had basically
sold out to Rome.

We also know that Simon was called the "Zealot," which means he belonged to
the Jewish patriotic party known as the Zealots. As their name implies, the
Zealots were very serious about restoring Jewish honor by rebelling against
the Romans. In fact, they often resorted to violence, and they even
provoked a war with Rome.

Jesus called these two men, with backgrounds as conflicting as you can
imagine, to live and work together with Him. And amazingly, they did! Under
Christ's leadership and guidance, Matthew and Simon managed to check their
baggage at the door and harmoniously forge ahead as His disciples.

The Bible is unmistakably clear: Among Christians, there's no place for
prejudice of any kind (Galatians 3:28). Matthew and Simon graphically
depict this. Just as they were called to live together as one under Christ,
so are Christians from every social, political, and racial background. That
means our worldly views and values prior to knowing Jesus are to be shed
and left behind. Be sure you've let go of any prejudicial baggage as a
Christian, because your calling in Christ requires you to have both hands
free to lovingly serve others.

Think About It? What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does
this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I
need to make? What is my prayer for today?

*There Comes A Time*

*Jeremiah 8:20, NIV: "The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are
not saved."*

*"There comes a time," I've heard, "when all good things must come to an
end." That's true of things on earth--but not things of Heaven. And while
we understand that our time on this earth is limited, it is not something
most of us give frequent thought. For some odd reason, the cares of this
life often tip the scales as holding the weightier of matters, and we
simply lose sight of the eternal realities. It is because of this I fear
that we, as a people, will come to the end of the age and be filled with
sorrow when we consider on what we have spent our lives. We will look
around and see the many lost souls being left behind, and we will weep. You
and I have our salvation--but so many do not. As of right now, "The harvest
is plentiful, but the workers are few." The summer continues, and so very
many are still not saved.*

Faith and Moods

Faith is at the foundation of all Christian living, and because faith
has to do with the character of God, it is safe from all vacillations
of mood. A man may be believing soundly and effectively even when his
mood is low, so low that he is hardly aware that he is alive
emotionally at all. That is one thing, and it is good to know and
still better to put in practice. But like every other truth, it has
two sides. Our trouble today is that we tend to forget the other side,
that is, that elevated spiritual mood is a tremendous aid to
victorious living. The relation of faith to mood may be stated by
means of a number of metaphors: if faith is the tree, mood is the
blossom; if faith is the flower, mood is the fragrance; if faith is
the instrument, mood is the melody. And who will deny the vital place
of the blossom, the fragrance and the music in human life? Mood is a
kind of mental weather. There is weather in which nothing will grow.
The farmer knows the damage done by prolonged periods of cold, wet
weather in the spring after the seed has been planted. Sometimes the
seed will rot in the ground, requiring a new planting with all the
loss and extra work this entails. Weather may be too hot, too cold,
too dry, too wet to favor good crops, and the Christian's moods, in
like manner, may be unfavorable to spiritual growth and fruitfulness.
Christian service carried on during prolonged heaviness of heart may
be as good as wasted.

Verse
We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

Thought
We walk by faith not by sight, mood or feeling. There are times when
faith is all we have in the midst of darkness. There are also times
when faith lifts mood and elevates feeling.

Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for the bright moods and joyfulness. Keep me from
becoming unduly dependent upon them.

I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
Psalm 18:1 (KJV)

Today's Promise from the Bible

1 John 4:10

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent
his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

Reflection

Our love for God cannot save us, but His love for us can. It is
because of His love that we are given His grace to enter the kingdom
of heaven (Ephesians 2:8).

My Prayer: Thank you for Your endless love! It is only through your
grace that I can be granted eternal life.

I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.

Sudden Judgment

1 Thessalonians 5:1-3: Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not
need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord
will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace
and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on
a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

God's judgment on the world will come as a complete surprise to those
who do not believe. If they had only known, they would have prepared,
just like a man would not allow a thief to break in, if he knows ahead
of time. We need to warn people.

I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
Psalm 18:1 (KJV)

Days of Heaven on Earth

God does not have two ways for any of us, but one. Not two things for
us to do which we may choose between, but one best and highest choice.
It is a blessed thing to find and fill the perfect will of God. It is
a blessed thing to have our life laid out and our Christian work
adjusted to God's plan.

Much strength is lost by working at a venture. Much spiritual force
can be expended in wasted effort and in scattered, indefinite and
inconstant attempts at doing good. There is spiritual force and
financial strength enough in the hands and hearts of the consecrated
Christians of today, if it were only wisely directed and used
according to God's plan, to bring about the evangelization of the
world in a generation.

Christ has laid down a definite plan of work for His Church, and He
expects us to understand it and to work up to it. As we catch His
thought and obediently, loyally fulfill it, we shall work with
purpose. In so doing we please Him far better than by our thoughtless,
reckless and indiscriminate attempts to carry out our ideas and compel
God to bless our work.

It is God which worketh in you—Philippians 2:13

I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.

David Faithful to His Covenant with Jonathan
"And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul,
that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?" 2 Samuel 9:1 Saul
and his two sons had been slain in battle and David is now King.
Instead of using his royal power maliciously, he extends kindness. The
beautiful covenant between David and Jonathan finds a reason to
exercise loving-kindness from the heart of David. He seeks to extend
pity to the descendant of his archenemy, to befriend one who might
well have feared death at the hands of David. He takes the initiative
to find any descendant of Saul that he may show kindness for
Jonathan's sake.

The one who now receives kindness at the hands of the king is so
blessed, not because of anything he has done, or any worthiness he
possesses, but wholly because of a covenant promise by David to
Jonathan. "And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan has yet a son, which
is lame on his feet. Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the
son of Saul, was come to David, he fell on his face and did
reverence."

David's words were full of grace as he addressed Mephibosheth, "Fear
not, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's
sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and
you shall eat at my table continually." What a moving scene!
Mephibosheth "bowed himself and said, what is your servant that you
should look upon such a dead dog that I am?"

The mercy and grace shown by David moved to contrition the heart of
this crippled, outcast son of Jonathan. It brought a deep
consciousness that he was utterly unworthy yet the recipient of
matchless grace. There was life for him, for David refused to take
revenge upon him for the injustice and cruelty he suffered from Saul.
He returned good for evil, love for hate, grace instead of justice,
and mercy instead of wrath. David's words--"fear not"--put to rest all
anxiety, quieted his heart, and set him at perfect ease in the
presence of the king. There was an inheritance: "All that pertained to
Saul and to all his house" was restored to him, after it had been lost
to his family. Then David extends to him a most gracious gift: "You
shall eat bread at my table continually." What a contrast from being a
crippled outcast in Lodebar [place of no pasture] to being seated at
the king's table, not once, but continually! The capstone of David's
grace is his words:
"As for Mephibosheth! , said the king, he shall eat at my table AS
ONE OF THE KING'S SONS!" Not as an alien or a stranger, or a servant
or a guest, but as a member of the royal family. AS ONE OF THE KING'S
SONS!

What a magnificent picture of our redemption! We, who deserve nothing
but the judgment of God, are taken in by His love and grace, given an
eternal inheritance, and made to sit at the Father's table forever!
Cleansed by the blood of Christ; reconciled to God and given a peace
that passes understanding, a joy that is unspeakable and full of
glory, and mercy that endures forever; accepted in the Beloved, made
an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ; indwelled by the Holy
Spirit...ALL BY THE MATCHLESS GRACE OF OUR LOVING LORD! His grace is
greater than all our sin. Marvelous, matchless, infinite grace!
