Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and
Srila Gurudeva.
Often we come across personalities whom we aspire to associate with. One
gets attracted to such personality either because of his fame, beauty,
intelligence or wealth. Then how much should we be attracted towards the
Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna, who is the creator of
spiritual and material worlds. How much should we try to please Him day and
night? How much should we long for His association and more than that how
much should we long to have a glimpse of Him? There is no limit to the
actions that should be performed to please the all attractive, Supreme
Personality of Godhead. As God is unlimited, so are His pastimes and so are
the actions to please Him. Everything is unlimited (aseemita) when it comes
to Lord. Then why our endeavors to please the Lord should be limited?
Incessant flow of devotional service with whatever capacity of ours
certainly pleases Lord. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 7.9.9 Prahlada Maharaj
says:
*manye dhanaabhijana-rupa-tapah-shrutaujas
tejah-prabhaava-bala-paurusha-buddhi-yogaah
naaraadhanaaya hi bhavanti parasya pumso
bhaktyaa tutosha bhagavaan gaja-yutha-paaya
*
"*One may possess wealth, an aristocratic family, beauty, austerity,
education, sensory expertise, luster, influence, physical strength,
diligence, intelligence and mystic yogic power, but I think that even by
all these qualifications one cannot satisfy the Supreme Personality of
Godhead. However, one can satisfy the Lord simply by devotional service.
Gajendra did this, and thus the Lord was satisfied with him*."
One might be wealthiest man in the whole world, one might be the most
beautiful person on the planet, one might be very famous personality or
most intelligent of all species, but we know one thing that he/she cannot
take even a single breath without the permission of Supreme Personality of
Godhead, let alone the accomplishments. Such is the divine power. And we
see people proud of their money, beauty, family, education. Lord has
nothing to do with our material qualification. He has nothing to do with
our stature in the society. All He understands is our real "bhaava" towards
Him. And He understands it perfectly as He resides in our heart as
Paramatma. He listens to every thought that comes in our mind. All He wants
is undeviated loving devotional service unto Him. Our beloved spiritual
master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj says, "*If Krishna doesn't give it,
then we don't want it*". It is so nicely said by Prahlad Maharaj that if
Krishna doesn't want our wealth, beauty, fame, and intelligence then why
should we want it or hanker for it. There is nothing wrong in having it but
hankering for more and more is certainly rejected by Lord. Lord is pleased
with us when we use whatever He has bestowed us in His service - be it
house, land, lakshmi or abilitiy to do various kinds of services to Him.
Srila Rupa Goswami was so intelligent that he compiled Vaishnav literatures
by pleasing Caitanya Mahaprabhu. His heart was so cleansed by devotional
service that the Kadamba tree under which he used to sit for compiling the
literature, had become Krishna conscious. Whenever Rupa Goswami compiled
Radha Krishna milan lila, the tree blossomed with fresh leaves and flowers
whereas whenever he compiled the viraha lila of Radha Krishna, the leafs of
Kadamba tree shed. Such was the consciousness Srila Rupa Goswamiji
propagated. Srila Haridas Thakur who constantly chanted Holy Names of Lord
at least 3 lakh times a day, worshiped Lord with his capacity to chant.
Both the Acharyas had no wealth with them, yet Lord was pleased. King
Prataprudra was wealthiest of all in West Bengal during the Caitanya
Mahaprabhu era. But Mahaprabhu was pleased with him because he swept the
road in front of Jagannath cart during Jagannath Ratha yatra. Lord gets
pleased only and only by pure devotional service and that is why Mahaprabhu
says in Sikshaashtakam:
*na dhanam na janam na sundarim
kavitaam vaa jagdisha kaamaye
mama janmani janmanishvare
bhavataad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi
*
"*O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire
beautiful women nor do I want any number of followers. I only want Your
causeless devotional service, birth after birth*."
This is it. Only thing we need to aspire is to perform pure unmotivated
devotional service to satisfy the lord. The ultimate aim of our existence
is to make Krishna Happy. To bring a smile on his face and satisfy him.
That's all.
I pray at the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, Srila Prabhupada and Srila
Gurudev that all I aspire is to satisfy Lord with whatever little I have.

Those sadhus who speak sharp words to drive away the witch of the illusory
energy are actually the only real devotees of Krsna and friends of the
living entities. The conditioned living being experiences the distressful
quarreling of his wife and close relatives and is rudely treated by them
until death, yet he never desires to leave their association. On the other
hand, he absorbs himself in trying to appease and serve them. But when a
devotee of the Lord, who is always desirous of the living entity's ultimate
welfare, chides him just once with instructions meant to drive away Maya,
then that conditioned entity immediately makes plans to leave the saintly
person for his entire life.

NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS
The secondary rules are of three types: rules regarding self; rules
regarding society; rules regarding the afterlife. Rules regarding the self
are of two categories: those for the body and those for the mind. Those
rules to keep a person's body properly nourished so that they can remain
healthy are the bodily rules. Such things as regulated drinking, eating,
sleeping, exercise, and for sickness, prescriptions for cure, are bodily
rules.
If people do not follow these rules, they cannot pass through life smoothly.
If they do not follow the mental rules, their power of realization,
concentration, imagination, contemplation and judgment will be weak and will
not properly function. There will be no advancement in arts and sciences,
and moreover one will not be able to take the mind from material thoughts
and direct it to thoughts of God. As a result, sinful thoughts and atheistic
attitude will dominate the mind; finally a person will become no better than
a beast. Therefore these bodily and mental rules are very necessary for
success in human life.

Japa Tips
1.Chant early in the morning, if possible 5 to 7 am
2.Chant along with Srila Prabhupada's japa tape
3.Chant with good chanters (when possible)
4.Record your chanting so you can hear whether you skip syllables
5.Read at least one inspiring text a day from Srila Prabhupada's books about
chanting (like the compilation "The Nectar of the Holy Name")
6.After each 16 rounds, write down in your journal how many rounds you have
actually heard
7.Chant all 16 round in one go (this is very powerful!)
8.Above all, pray to Lord Krsna and to namacarya Srila Haridasa Thakura to
improve your japa
9.Turn off the mobile phone
10.Don't turn on the laptop/PC
11.Don't get into conversations unless absolutely urgent
12.When mind wanders away, bring it back and focus on the sound
13.Chant feelingly, not mechanically
14.Share your realizations and quotes to the email list of japa improvers
15.Report daily to the email list of japa improvers
16.Use monthly Japa Excellence Table to keep track about quality and
quantity.
Inspiration
"There is no vow like chanting the holy name, no knowledge superior to it,
no meditation which comes anywhere near it, and it gives the highest result.
No penance is equal to it, and nothing is as potent or powerful as the holy
name. Chanting is the greatest act of piety and the supreme refuge. Even the
words of the Vedas do not possess sufficient power to describe its
magnitude. Chanting is the highest path to liberation, peace and eternal
life. It's the pinnacle of devotion, the heart's joyous proclivity and
attraction and the best form of remembrance of the Supreme Lord. The holy
name has appeared solely for the benefit of the living entities as their
lord and master, their supreme worshipful object and their spiritual guide
and mentor. Whoever continuously chants Lord Krishna's holy name, even in
his sleep, can easily realize that the name is a direct manifestation of
Krishna Himself, in spite of the influences of Kali-yuga."
