"None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for
God."
Romans 3:10-11
Perhaps you've seen or heard the illustration of people trying to get
to heaven as trying to leap over an ocean. The illustration goes that
some may jump further than others, but the point is clear that no one
can jump across the ocean. And in the same way, while some may live
better lives than others, the point is that no one can live a life
holy enough to get to heaven.
Now, I want you to know that I believe all of that is true. Not one
person is good enough to go to heaven. And even those who seem to live
better lives than others still fall short, by far.
But do you know what I've noticed in life? It's that most people don't
even try to jump to attain salvation. Oh, there may be a few religious
people who try to prove themselves to God, but very few people today
even bother to try to jump to get to God because most people today
assume they're already okay.
However, the reality is that not one person apart from Christ is okay.
Every single individual has sinned and has fallen short of God's holy
standard. No one is okay, but God has given them a way to be made okay
with Him.
So, don't let the prevailing attitude of "I'm okay, you're okay" keep
you from sharing God's truth. It's only through Christ that anyone can
come to God, so share that with others each day!
NO ONE CAN COME TO GOD APART FROM JESUS CHRIST. SO LIVE YOUR LIFE TO
TELL THE WORLD THAT JESUS HAS MADE A WAY BACK TO GOD!

Jesus Christ said; "Whoever acknowledges
me before men, I will also acknowledge
him before my Father in heaven.
( Matthew 10:32-33 *NIV )
The Bible says to have an answer for why you believe for those
who ask you. The following is a good example of an answer to
one of the most common reasons people give for ignoring God
and His Goodness.
The following was sent to me this week by one of our
subscriber's. It is called:
"God Exists!"
A man went to a barber shop to have his hair and his beard cut
as always. He began to have a good conversation with the barber
who attended him. They talked about so many things and various
subjects.
Suddenly, they touched on the subject of God. The barber said:
"Look man, I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.
Well, it's so easy, you just have to go out in the street to realize
that God does not exist. Oh, tell me, if God exists, would there
be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children?
If God exists, there would be no suffering nor pain. I can't think
of
loving a God who permits all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but he didn't respond
because he did not want to start an argument. The barber finished
his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the
barber
shop, he saw a man in the street with long hair and a beard that
was very long as well, one could tell that it had been a long time
since he had his hair cut. He also looked dirty and unkempt.
The customer entered the barber shop again and he said to the
barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say they don't exist?" asked the surprised barber."
I am here and I am a barber. Why I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist, because if
they did there would be no people with long hair and beard like
that man who is outside."
"Ah, barbers do exist, what happens is that people sometimes do
not come to them."
"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God does
exist. What happens is people don't go to Him and do not look
for Him. That's why there is so much suffering and hardship in
this world today."

Dear Beloved,
WHO KNOWS THE HOUR?
"Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come…" (Ecclesiastes 9:12 NIV).
The death of Reverend Josiah Adegoke Adeleke, my mentor, friend, and
brother in Christ, in a ghastly auto accident with another friend, Reverend
Chris Tayo Orodiji, on Tuesday January 11, 2005 is still a mirage to me. In
spite of the fact that I was there at the mortuary giving them final bath
and dressing in preparation for their burial, and the fact that I was one
of those that lowered their coffins into their graves, I still find it
difficult to believe that those two great men of God who died at their
prime age in active service have gone forever. I will see them only in
heaven when I also die or at the marriage feast of the Lamb after the
rapture of the saints.
Both of them were very intimate friends who had shared with me many things
about our personal, educational, and especially ministerial endeavors. So,
all the plans, dreams, and aspirations they had have gone with them
unfulfilled! So, they have abandoned their promising ministerial careers
for the rest of us! So, they will not publish those books they have written
their outlines! So, they have left their pregnant wives and very young
children behind to face the struggles of life alone! So, they have….
Their short lives and sudden death are indeed a challenge to the living
that "Man born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. He springs up
like a flower and withers away; like a fleeting shadow, he does not
endure…. Man's days are determined; you have decreed the number of his
months and have set limits he cannot exceed…. But man dies and is laid low;
he breathes his last and is no more. As water disappears from the sea or a
riverbed becomes parched and dry, so man lies down and does not rise; till
the heavens are no more, men will not awake or be roused from their sleep"
(Job 14:1-5, 10-12 NIV).
Their short lives and sudden death are a strong confirmation of the words
of Solomon, "'Meaningless! Meaningless!' says the Teacher. 'Utterly
meaningless! Everything is meaningless,'" and "What does a man get for all
the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun?"
(Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:22 NIV). What really are we living for if death can
render everything meaningless within seconds without warning? Why are we
struggling to become somebody on earth when it is certain that we will
leave everything one day? This makes the words of Paul in Philippians 1:21
relevant here: "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain" (NIV).
Living for Jesus Christ will make our living on earth meaningful and our
death a gain for us. GOKE and TAYO lived for Christ and their death is
indeed a gain for them and Jesus Christ. Who are you living for?
Their short lives and sudden death are now a warning to me that I have to
"discharge all the duties of [my] ministry" (2 Timothy 4:5 NIV). Again, the
words of Paul to Archippus clearly come to mind: "See to it that you
complete the work you have received in the Lord" (Colossians 4:17 NIV). I
have to be up and doing because I do not know when God will also call me
home. I do not know what people will say when I am no more. I do not know
whether my Lord will commend me with words like, "Well done, good and
faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you
in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" (Matthew
25:21 NIV). I do not know….
Their short lives and sudden death are indeed a challenge and a warning to
us to "Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to
which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of
many witnesses" (1 Timothy 6:12 NIV). If those two great men of God could
die at their prime age, then, anyone may be the next to be called home.
Let me conclude with these words of Solomon, "Moreover, no man knows when
his hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken
in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon
them" (Ecclesiastes 9:12 NIV).
In His service,
Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor).

CHILDREN NEED MODELS
Luke 6:40
A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully
trained, will be like his teacher
Your children need to see how you handle failure even more than how you
handle success. If you make a mistake, you need to own up to it and ask
forgiveness if the situation calls for it. If you don't model how to deal
with your own fleshly responses, how are they going to learn how to own up
to their mistakes and resolve them biblically?
One Sunday morning my daughter wasn't ready when I wanted to leave for
church. I fumed about it until I exploded with anger. After the service I
was about to say grace before a meal when I felt the convicting hand of God
weighing heavily upon me. I stopped and asked my family to forgive me for
my outburst of anger. I didn't confess my daughter's tardiness because it
wasn't my responsibility. Nor did I ask their forgiveness in hopes that my
daughter would own up to her tardiness. I asked their forgiveness because
my outburst of anger was a deed of the flesh. I had to ask forgiveness to
be right with God myself.
You never lose esteem in your child's eyes when you do what God requires
you to do. You gain esteem because you are an honest person, and in the
process you are modeling what they need to do when they blow it. Children
need models, not critics. Modeling is what establishes our credibility to
"bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians
6:4).
Prayer: Lord, help me model a life of obedience and honesty before my
children and others who look to me as an example. And when I fail, give me
grace to admit my mistakes and resolve my conflicts.

Faith's Check Book, Daily Entry
C. H. Spurgeon
January 14
Rest Is a Gift
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
We who are saved find rest in Jesus. Those who are not saved will
receive rest if they come to Him, for here He promises to "give" it.
Nothing can be freer than a gift; let us gladly accept what He gladly
gives. You are not to buy it, nor to borrow it, but to receive it as a
gift. You labor under the lash of ambition, covetousness, lust, or
anxiety: He will set you free from this iron bondage and give you
rest. You are "laden," yes, "heavy laden" with sin, fear, care,
remorse, fear of death; but if you come to Him He will unload you. He
carried the crushing mass of our sin that we might no longer carry it.
He made Himself the great Burden-bearer, that every laden one might
cease from bowing down under the enormous pressure.
Jesus gives rest. It is so. Will you believe it? Will you put it to
the test? Will you do so at once? Come to Jesus by quitting every
other hope, by thinking of Him, believing God's testimony about Him,
and trusting everything with Him. If you thus come to Him the rest
which He wilt give you will be deep, safe, holy, and everlasting. He
gives a rest which develops into heaven, and He gives it this day to
all who come to Him.
As the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without deeds is dead.

Psalm 6:2
Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak; O Lord, heal me; for my
bones are vexed.
The closer we get to God, the more glaring are our faults. The
brighter the light of perfection that we subject ourselves to, the
more flaws are revealed. The better we understand the awesome
magnificence of God, the more we expose our own imperfection. As the
great men and women of the Bible came to realize, the stronger we
become in the faith, the more wretched we sometimes fee.
This, however, is no cause for despair. Our Lord wants nothing more
than for us to come to depend on Him. We can only truly become
dependent as we acknowledge our inadequacies. As the Apostle Paul
found out, true strength comes from admitting our weakness, and total
healing comes by realizing that without God we are sickly and
terminally diseased by sin. Cry out for the mercy of God and He will
strengthen you; ask for His healing and you will be made whole.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I try to be perfect and find that I am hopelessly
deficient. Nothing I can do will bring me the perfection You intend
for me. Fill me with Your Spirit and do for me all that I cannot do
for myself. Amen.
