Notes

The wreath forms the number "0," thus balancing the Fool "0" at the
beginning of the trumps. The shape also may refer to the Tattwa for
Spirit. On the other hand, the cross made with the legs and the
triangle made with the arms inverts the image on the Hanged Man,
symbolizing that the mystical journey is completed.

Purple drape - This card is assigned to Saturn in the Golden Dawn
system, and the color of Saturn is indigo (Regardie, p 241).

The figure's arms form a triangle, and the legs form a cross. The
triangle and cross combine to make an important symbol in the GD
initiation rituals. The triangle and cross also form a septernary and
the World card completes the third septernary of the Trumps.

The Universe

The Universe (or World) is numbered twenty one and is the final card
of the Major Arcana. We usually see a female figure dancing within or
upon the world, often surrounded by a laurel wreath. The four
elemental creatures can be seen, suggesting mastery. This is a card of
completion. The soul has attained earthly perfection after passing
through the final, self-imposed, trial of the Aeon.

There are many positive and enjoyable connotations to this card. There
is satisfaction, fulfilment and pride, because we have achieved
something. There is fruitfulness and bounty as a reward for our
earlier efforts. There is good fortune and confirmation that now we
are putting enough into life to get out of it what we need.

The Universe completes the journey and evolution of the Fool. We begin
in innocence, mature through experience and education, becoming wise
and measured. Balanced in this way we finally achieve the good fortune
and joy of the Universe. The traumas and self-imposed obstacles are
gone. We have integrated all parts of our being into a harmonious
synthesis which brings positivity and success into material reality.
Like the figure depicted in the card, we dance with the joy of life.
And again we are the Innocent.

Working with The Universe

The Universe is a card of completion - spiritually it indicates that
we have come to the end of a given period of development, and are now
prepared to move on into the next phase. This card will sometimes come
up to mark a period where synthesis of knowledge occurs, that amazing
moment when you realise how much you have grown over the last weeks or
months or years.

Completion occurs only in order to open our path to the next part of
our journey, so in some respects, the Universe is a retrospective
card, which opens gateways to our future.

On a day ruled by this card, try to bring something to a point of
completion. Expect the forces of life to join with you in that effort.
And turn your mind to thoughts about the next logical step once you
have succeeded in your efforts.

All things in life grow out of what preceded them - the plant grows
from the seed; the project grows from the idea; wisdom grows from
knowledge and experience. We are constantly developing. Our
understanding expands stage by stage.

But a Universe day marks an important point of pivot in our growth. It
shows us that it is time to take stock of what we have done - the
distance that we have travelled. And in taking confidence and
self-reliance from the progress we have already made, we can go
forward with trusting hearts, and high spirits.

So....recap your achievements on a Universe day, remember where you
came from. Then turn your face to the future and decide where you're
going! You can apply this to mundane tasks as readily as to spiritual
development - each depends upon the other.

Affirmation: I am a Child of the Universe

The World Tarot Card Interpretation

The World major tarot cards sits at number 21.

The World tarot card represents birth and rebirth, new beginnings and
opportunities.

It is important that you read my information on the Vesica Pisces in
order to fully comprehend the symbolism of The World.

http://www.toniallen.co.uk/vesica-pisces.html

Here you will have learnt how the Vesica Pisces, the central ellipse
that the woman dances out from, is the bridge between heaven and earth
or the unmanifest and manifest worlds.

In tarot the woman is symbolic of the life giving force of creation.
She holds two batons or wands in her hands depicting the dual nature
that she brings to humanity.

At The Lovers tarot cards we learnt how discrimination helps us to
rise above our dual natures in order to make correct choices in life.
However here, at the World card, we are the new born spirit emerging
into nature as symbolised by the wreath that grows around the Vesica
Pisces.

The creative principal shines through us time and time again, life
time after life time, always bestowing a unique nature and
opportunities to learn and grow towards perfection. Our opportunities
are symbolised by the four elements, The Angel -air-intellect, Eagle -
water-emotions, Bull-earth-substance and Lion-fire-passion. These are
the same elements as we find in the four suits of tarot.

On our Tarot journey by the time we reach the world card we have been
around 2 levels of consciousness and arrived at a new beginning or
rebirth. Hence 21.

During a reading the World tarot card will symbolise that it is time
to get out into the world and take the opportunities offered. All of
us have talent and potential at various levels. As an astrologer I
frequently see the phenomena in a client's birth chart where they have
lived the first part of their life using certain talents and are
preparing to strengthen other, so far latent qualities, in order to
progress in life and take on new challenges.

Sometimes the World card can also literally indicate travel and a need
to travel further afield outside our regular environment. When the
World card is reversed it often indicates that the questioner feels
trapped and unable to step out into the world. A small world. I see
this most often when the questioner is stuck in a caring situation,
whether that be physically nursing elderly parents, bringing up
children or staying in the same old job in order to bring in enough
money to provide for a family.

Due to the World card's connection with the Vesica Pisces' ancient
symbolism as the vagina during a reading it can also depict a safe
birth, sex and a renewed exploration of ones sexuality.

If the images in the corners are taken as the fixed zodiacal signs,
they must be in the order shown on the RWS deck. The man represents
Aquarius and he needs to be placed diagonally to Leo the lion. The
same goes for the bull which represents Taurus - it must be placed
diagonally across from the eagle which represents Scorpio. Some decks
switch the order - perhaps they are following the order of the
Evangelists as given in Ezekiel and not the proper zodiacal
positioning? The Cosmic tarot is an example of the change. Notice that
the lion and the bull are reversed. This is not the proper order of
the signs of the zodiac or the fixed stars found within the
constellations.

Below is a post from aeclectic which talks about Babylonian astrology
and the four fixed stars.

First is a description from Wikipedia and after that the post about fixed stars.

A naked woman or hermaphrodite hovers or dances above the Earth
holding a staff in each hand, surrounded by a green wreath, being
watched by various creatures. In older decks, these are usually a
human face or head, a lion, an ox, and an eagle, the symbols of the
four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Matthew the Evangelist, the author of the first gospel, symbolized by a man...

Mark the Evangelist, the author of the second gospel, symbolized by a lion...

Luke the Evangelist, the author of the third gospel and the Acts of
the Apostles, symbolized by a bull or a calf...

John the Evangelist, the author of the fourth gospel, symbolized by an eagle...

It also holds reference to the vision of Ezekiel in the old testament.
This is a reference to the all-encompassing knowledge of the Bible,
the Word of God. Later decks avoid such blatant Christian symbolism,
or ignore it altogether, choosing to explain these observers as
representatives of the natural world, or the kingdom of beasts. An
alternative explanation is based on astrological symbolism. The human
face, bull, lion, and eagle represent the fixed signs of the zodiac,
Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio. In some decks the wreath is a
basilisk (crowned reptile) biting its own tail; this basilisk is also
sometimes called an Ouroborous.

In some decks, this card is also called "The Universe."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_(Tarot_card)

I agree with the poster who spoke about the ancient Babylonian
symbolism of the four beasts, representing the root symbolism of this
card on which many other cycles of symbolism are layered. It was
during the Babylonian period of history that the Sun conjuncting the
four stars Aldebaran (Eye of Taurus, the Bull), Regulus (Heart of the
Lion), Antares (Heart of the Scorpion) and Fomalhaut (Mouth of the
Fish) marked the changes in seasons of the solar year. You will note
that the Lady of "The World" is encircled by an oval wreath marked
into four sections. The oval wreath represents the Solar Year. The
four beasts mark the stars that represented the Solstices and
Equinoxes when astrology was first invented. The animals fall into
exactly the sequence of the seasons when we follow them
counterclockwise around the card--first Spring (Bull/Taurus), then
Summer (lion/Leo), then Autumn (eagle/Scorpio), then Winter
(man/Aquarius).

Aquarius, by the way, is the "water bearer", astrologically symbolized
by a man pouring or carrying water: therefore, his symbol is a human
form. All four beasts in Babylonian myth have wings, so you could say
he is a winged man and therefore an angel, or you could say the four
beasts are all angels, since they all have wings.

And the Lady (the World), dances within the oval (quite accurate,
actually--the solar year is better described as an oval than a circle)
solar cycle of the seasons.

The Babylonians referred to the four stars as "the Watchers" of the
four directions of the compass. As a result of Ezekiel and Daniel
borrowing heavily on the beasts of Babylonian astrological symbolism
in describing their visions, the identical concepts were imported into
Hebrew symbolism in the book of Daniel and later Christian symbolism
in the book of Revelation. The term for "Watchers" in Hebrew
translates to messengers, or Angels in English.

The Four Watchers, then, became associated with the four Archangels:

Aldebaran = Uriel, or Light of God

Regulus = Raphael, or Healing of God

Antares = Michael, or Like God

Fomalhaut = Gabriel, or Strength of God

THE WORLD - 21

Attribution - Saturn

The Major Fortune.

The World card is represented by the number 21 or 3. It stands for the
culmination of work well done, life well lived, and the
accomplishments you have been working toward. The number 3 is
associated with knowing that your skills and lessons have been
mastered.

This card is the journey's end, the culmination of the Fool's Journey.

Rider-Waite Imagery

A blonde woman dances in the middle of a Aureole Wreath. She is nude
and wrapped in a violet banner. She holds a pair of white wands, one
in each hand. The Wreath is tied with a red cross. The background is
blue and filled with clouds. The Cherubim are in the corners (man,
eagle, ox, lion) and form a square which is the geometeric shape that
represents the earth.

On This Day:

Tuesday January 31, 2012

This is the 31st day of the year, with 335 days remaining in 2012.

Fact of the Day: growth plates

Mammals have the ability of skeletal growth because of flexible
epiphyses [pronounced: a pith a seas] (growth caps) found at the ends
of the long bone shafts. The epiphyseal cartilages [growth plates]
separate the epiphyses while bones are forming. The advent of puberty
is signaled by an increase of sex hormones and at this point the
growth plates begin to close. Once they are eliminated, the growth
process totally stops.
