*Gentle and Humble *

"I am gentle and humble." Matthew 11:29
One of the first devotionals in the book Knowing God Through the Year by
J.I. Packer, used the above verse -
"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in
heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
My eyes stopped when I read, "gentle and humble". I began to consider what
I'd read.
Here is the Creator of all things, the God Almighty, the God who knows
everything and is all wise, the One who is holy, the Ruler Supreme, and yet
He told us He is gentle and humble. We will find rest for our souls if we
come to Him.
You would think He would say,
"Hey you, don't you know how important I am? I don't have time for you, I
am too busy!" But He didn't. He said, "Come to Me."
Wow!
The greatest leader and He is gentle and humble. How many people do you
know who invite you to come to them? How many leaders do you know, who,
after they have become powerful, display gentleness and humility?
And then we must ask ourselves the question, "Am I gentle and humble?" Do
people feel peaceful in my company?
Lord, thank You for inviting us to come to You. Thank you for being gentle
and humble. You are so awesome, yet so kind. Create in us a gentle and
humble spirit. Amen.

*To Humble Ourselves*
by Alec Niemi
"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5
Humble people seem to be blessed with pervasively portioned patience,
peace, perseverance and unpretentiousness.
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift
you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for
you." 1 Peter 5:6
Humble people are also alert, affecting, attentive, affectionate, affable
and not anxious.
"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in
the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the
world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings." 1 Peter 5: 8-9
Humble people are strong, solid, steadfast, sincere, serving and unswerving.
"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ,
after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make
you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever.
Amen." 1 Peter 5:10-11
My prayer for us this week
Heavenly Father, please help us to not be anxious about anything. In
everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, we present our
requests to you. We know that your peace, which transcends all
understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Philippians 4:6-7

For you are all sons of God through faith
in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as
were baptized into Christ have put on
Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither slave nor free, there is
neither male nor female; for you are all
one in Christ Jesus.
( Galatians 3:26-28 *NKJV )
Now you know why the message is addressed to God's
Children this morning! For truly those who love and
worship God are His children; For in Him we live
and move and have our being.' As some of
your own poets have said, 'We are His offspring.
( Acts 17:28 ) Think about that the next time you are
feeling low, or are depressed and worried because of a
problem that you are facing. I'll bet that problem won't
seem so big if you do!
So , as a member of God's Great Family, never feel alone and think
that there is no one to turn too, For He Himself has said, "I will
never leave you nor forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The Lord is
my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" ( Hebrews
13:5-6 ) Therefore , He will always be there to love you, and guide
you through any difficulty!
Now as the Prophet David wrote; You are my rock
and my fortress, for the sake of Your Name lead
and guide me. ( PSALM 31:3 ) So; Trust in Him at
all times, you people; Pour out your heart before
Him; God is a refuge for us. A refuge indeed!
Amen. ( Psalms 62:8 )

What Is Sin?
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord."
- Romans 6:23 (NIV).
What is sin and why does God hate it?
Someone has argued if God is the creator of all things then He must
have created sin. Actually, sin, as another has suggested is not a
"created" thing at all. It is an action on our part or a failure to
act as we know we ought to act or behave. God created people but He
didn't create sin or sinners. Sinners are people who have chosen to go
their own way rather than God's way. It's the same with evil. It is
the evil actions of people who have chosen to do evil things that make
them evil.
In the Bible there are three facets to sin. First has to do with
breaking God's laws that are found in His Word, the Bible. Second
applies to rebelling against God and going one's own sinful way. And
third has to do with falling short of God's standard of perfection;
that is, being less than whole and all that God envisioned for us to
be. The latter also includes sins of omission—not doing what we know
we should do—as well as sins of commission.
And why does God hate sin so vehemently? Because it destroys those
whom God loves—us. It causes us to be spiritually dead, and separates
us from the God who created and loves us, and dooms us to a lost
eternity in the place the Bible calls hell—whatever and wherever that
may be.
While sin totally destroys those whom God loves, His mercy and love
have provided a way of escape from sin's destructive consequences for
all who put their trust in Him and become a true Christ follower or
Christian.
Prayer: "Our Merciful Loving Father, please help me to understand the
totality of sin, its devastating consequences, and why you hate and
despise it. Help me also to understand your plan of salvation and
deliverance from sin's dreadful consequences through Jesus Christ and
be absolutely sure that I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior
and have received your gift of forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you
for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name
I Pray, Amen."
Have a Blessed Day and God Bless you.

**Read Ahead: *Hebrews 11:3-6
*Without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6*, HCSB
One thing that keeps many people from coming to know Christ is--(are you
ready for this?)--they're too nice. They live moral lives. They give to
charity. They treat others well. They may even go to church and read the
Bible on occasion. They assume that God must be pleased with them because
they're good people.
Yet they lack the one thing they need to please God--faith.
The Bible says you can live the cleanest life possible, you can do all
sorts of good deeds, you can even memorize the Bible from cover to cover...
but without faith you will not please God.
What does it mean to have faith? According to the last part of this verse,
faith means not only believing that God exists but also seeking after him
earnestly. It's not enough to be a good person or even to acknowledge that
God is there. The Pharisees in Jesus' day did all of these things, yet
Jesus was anything but pleased with them! Even the demons in hell believe
God exists! (James 2:19).
The good news is this: God promises to reward those who earnestly seek him.
If you trust God, he'll provide for your needs. If you seek his plan for
you, he'll guide you into his perfect will. He'll pour out love on you
unlike anything you've ever experienced.
You hold the key that unlocks everything God has for you. That key is your
faith.
What would you say to someone who doubts that God "rewards those who seek
him"?

Greater Is He
1 John 4:4
Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world
The Satanist organization is massive and extremely secretive. When you hear
of satanic priests or rituals, you are hearing only about activities at the
lowest level. You need not concern yourself too much with what you see or
hear, since the Satanist activity which you read about in the newspapers or
which is recorded in most police reports is usually the activity of mere
dabblers. It's what you don't see that is pulling the strings and arranging
events in Satanism. I have counseled enough victims of Satanism to know
that there are infiltrators committed to infiltrating and disrupting
Christian ministry.
To illustrate how human and spiritual forces of wickedness work together,
ask any group of committed Christians this question: "How many of you have
been awakened alertly or terrorized at 3:00 a.m.?" I ask that question
regularly in my conferences, and about two-thirds of the participants raise
their hands. Satanists meet from 12:00 to 3:00 a.m., and part of their
ritual is to summon and send demons. The early morning hours are prime time
for demon activity, and if you have awakened at that time, it may be that
you have been targeted.
I have been targeted numerous times. However, it's not a frightening
experience for me, and it shouldn't be for you. John promised, "Greater is
He who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). You have
authority over Satan's activity and you have the armor of God to protect
you. Whenever Satan attacks, you must "be strong in the Lord, and in the
strength of His might" (Ephesians 6:10). Consciously place yourself in the
Lord's hands, resist Satan with the spoken Word, and go back to sleep. You
are only vulnerable when you are walking by sight instead of by faith or
walking in the flesh instead of in the Spirit.
What should we do about Satan's hierarchy of demonic powers? Nothing! We
are not to be demon-centered; we are to be God-centered and
ministry-centered. We are to fix our eyes on Jesus, preach the gospel, love
one another, and be God's ambassadors in our fallen world.
Prayer: Father, keep me from losing my focus on the eternal. I choose to
fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith.

Read Titus 1 – Philemon 1
Highlights:
Witness and live your faith with enthusiasm (Titus chapters 1—2).
Qualifications of elders and bishops (1:5-9). Sound doctrine . . . (for)
the aged men. . . . The aged women. . . . Young men. . . . (and the)
servants (2:1-9). The coming of our great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ
(2:13-14). Speak evil of no man . . . but (be) gentle (3:2). A beautiful
portrayal of a sinner facing God with Christ as Intercessor (Philem.
1:1-25).
Anarchy (chaos, lawlessness) is Satan-inspired; we are to be subject to
principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good
work (Titus 3:1).
Christians are not at liberty to choose which laws to obey and which to
disobey. Peter was led of God to write: Submit yourselves to every
ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as
supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the
punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is
the will of God (I Pet. 2:13-15). As long as the laws are in effect and
operative, we are taught to obey them with one exception.
When Peter and the other apostles were commanded by religious authorities
not to tell others that Jesus is the Messiah-Savior of the world, they
responded as faithful Christians should, saying: We ought to obey God
rather than men (Acts 5:29). Never did they resort to violence, rioting, or
hatred against those who attempted to silence them, nor did they ignore the
law of the land. They taught the Truth and often received a prison sentence
or even death for their loyalty to God who is above all rulers.
Christians should faithfully declare the truth — even when it could mean
imprisonment or death. It is Satan who instigates violence and rebellion or
ignoring the laws. Failure to report or pay taxes or to obey any other
disagreeable law is against the teachings of the Bible. Even though Jesus,
as the Son of God, should have been exempt from paying a tax (Matt.
17:24-26), He said to Peter: Lest we should offend them . . . find a piece
of money . . . and give unto them for Me and thee (17:27).
The Apostle Paul also was led by the Holy Spirit to emphasize the
responsibility of Christians to be law-abiding citizens: For rulers are not
a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of
the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which
is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the
minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil (Rom.
13:3-4).
Thought for Today:
And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are
Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's (Mark 12:17).
Cross References:

2 Peter 1
God has given us the capacity to grow in Christian character and to develop
spiritual fruit.
INSIGHT
We are children of God, subjects of the King of creation. God calls us to
act accordingly, but often we do not. Our actions tend to result from our
self-image which is flawed and enamored with the values and attitudes of
this world. Peter writes that we have become: partakers of the divine
nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world . . . " He then
adds: ". . . for this very reason," pursue holiness (vv. 4-5). Those who do
not pursue holiness are shortsighted and have forgotten that they have been
purged of their old sin natures.
PRAYER
We have become partakers of the divine nature through Christ, so praise Him
who made it possible:
O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. . . .
I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For Your mercy is great above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
And Your glory above all the earth (Psalm 108:1, 3-5).
Pause for praise and thanksgiving.
Pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from
sin:
O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled;
But You, O Lord - how long? (Psalm 6:1-3).
Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, and pray this
affirmation to the Lord:
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to
God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 6:11)
As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
faithfulness with your talents,
state and local leaders,
your activities for the day.
Finally, offer this closing prayer to the Lord:
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever (Psalm 23:6).

took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among
the ashes. His wife said to him, 'Are you still holding on to your
integrity? Curse God and die!'" (Job 2:7-9).
I walked into the room and my friend burst out crying. "I'm so discouraged!
I don't know what else to do. Will I ever get better!?" After three years
of fighting a medical condition the doctor just told her no progress had
been made in the last six months of treatments. Alternative treatment was
needed that might have more severe side effects.
Great men of God with healing ministries had prayed for her. A string of
doctors had failed to yield any position results. When hope is deferred,
the psalmist says, the heart becomes sick. During these seasons, we can
only do one thing. We must hang onto whatever faith we have to get through
each day and entrust our lives to Him. "Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the
fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle
in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my
Savior" (Hab 3:17-18).
When faith doesn't see results it challenges what we believe. We must pray
as Job prayed: "Teach me what I cannot see" (Job 34:32). God says there is
a purpose in everything we go through. Later that day another friend who
once had the same issues, but was now better, had a word of encouragement.
"God is going to reveal things to you through this season of adversity that
you would never receive had you not gone through this. This is part of your
calling even though Satan is the instrument. God is always bigger than
Satan's afflictions."
Our greatest tests come when we cannot see positive results from our faith
and obedience. In such cases we must die to our expectations and entrust
them to our Lord.

Enter To Worship--Depart To Serve
"Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you;
and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
......Matthew 28: 20
*********************
There is a story told about a prayer which Peter Marshall once prayed
before the Senate.
Part of his prayer was: "Lord, we thank you that we can come to you just
as we are.
But, remind us that we dare not leave as we came." This is a prayer that
touches the very
heart of God. It is God's desire that we not leave our gatherings, as we
entered, but with
a changed heart. When we worship in spirit and truth, we are being
equipped to share
Jesus with those who need God in their lives. Blessings are received that
we might walk in
victory and also bless other lives to make a lasting difference. It is
such a joy to know
that our Lord is always with us and loves us with a love that will never
fail.
When we gather together with a purpose to praise and glorify our Lord, we
are to
"Enter to worship - Depart to Serve." This is the words on a sign in the
vestibule of a Church which
greets worshippers, and is an attitude which the Lord desires each of us
to have. As we receive
from God by studying His Word, meeting with Him in prayer, and worshipping
with other believers
in spirit and in truth; we are being equipped to serve the Lord, in the
world, as Christ commanded.
There is nothing like the presence of our Lord. No words are adequate to
fully express our
love and gratitude to God for His presence and power.
Our mission and ministry for God begins when we awake each morning and
have new opportunities
to witness or gather together in His name. Our service for Christ doesn't
stop there. When we
depart our places of assembly with other believers, we see outside our
buildings lost souls all
around. We, as the Body of Christ, are the church leaving only our places
of gathering. As
the Church, we are to depart with a mission to worship and serve the Lord
in the world.
As the old song says, "just outside our house of plenty, lies a field of
golden grain."
The power God has given us by His Spirit is to make us effective witnesses
for Him
in the world, not just to serve Him when we gather together. We are to be
'fishers of
men'.... seeking those who are lost and undone without Christ.
Worshipping God is not
to be for only an appointed time or place. Worship is obedience, and a
way of living
for the child of God. It is a new and supernatural walk with our Glorious
Lord, that He
might be glorified by our lives each day.
Our 'joy in Jesus' comes from putting into practice what we have been
given power to do, as we
live for Him each day. Our mission is to help "rescue the perishing and
care for the dying." Jesus is
merciful and will save all who come unto Him. Many are waiting to hear of
God's great love. We are to
teach others how to be disciples and true followers of Christ, as they
walk through this world.
Missionaries for the Lord may never have an opportunity to cross the sea;
but all must see the cross.
We have been commissioned to "go into all the world and teach whatsoever
things He has
commanded us." It has been said we do not have to teach others to "believe
all that we
personally believe".... but to believe personally on He who sent us and His
words.
The Body of Christ is to have victory over the world, flesh, and the
devil. We are the Army of the
Lord. Just as the armies of this world do not stay in their barracks but
go forth to fight the enemy,
we are also trained to be victorious in spiritual warfare. The lives of
men and women are at stake,
yet; as the words to the song tell us, "it seems like all my children want
to sit around my table, and
no one wants to work in my fields." The fields of the Lord need workers
who are willing to push away
from the table and help reach the lost in the end-time harvest. Every day
there are souls who cross
our paths. Gospel seeds sown will not return void, according to God's
Word.
There are many new messages being taught today that are not the gospel and
do not glorify the Lord.
Yet, the story of the plan of Jesus for man will never grow old and still
has power to save the lost.
May our hearts be 'prepared to worship and committed to serve.' We are to
be as a channel of blessings
through which God can flow and use for His glory. We are "blessed to be a
blessing" and there is work to be
done each day for our Lord. As we put the Word of God to work in our own
lives first, we will find that
it will work through us, to reach other hearts for His glory. God's Word
will not return void, but will
accomplish what He intends. We have been equipped for victory and will
find true joy when we share
the love of Jesus with others and let Him be Lord of all in our lives.
Blessings In Christ,

WOW!!!! Can you associate with this.???
Sometimes I just love someone soooo much it hurts,
like a family member, a friend from childhood and so
many others, that you cannot express it and you want to
give them the best present you could ever give, sacrificing
nothing. You would give them anything you have?????
The best gift is to tell them that God gave us his Son, Baby Jesus,
who grew up to die on the cross, paying for our sins and that if
we accept this and repent of trying to do things our ways and do
things His ways, that we actually become the Children of God and
live eternally with God... WOW!!! To be the cause of someone
living forever when they die is absolutely the best gift we could
give someone ... In face, God tells us to tell about His love
to those we don't know also. My heart still hurts for that miserable
man, that dirty alcoholic man at the service station. If circumstances
would have permitted I would love to have given him that gift...
maybe that was why he was so miserable...... God put in our hearts when
we were born, the ability to be drawn to Him.. Mankind has that in him
and must fulfill that. If he doesn't allow Christ in his heart, he will
fill it with many other things trying to quench that longing. He might fill it
with alcohol, drugs, so many wrong things, but the heart won't be satisfied
until it is filled with God and His Love..... Give the best gift you can give
this year, and tell someone of God's Saving Grace...Grace that is greater
than all our sins....Read John 3:16

shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.
-- John 1:4-5
THOUGHT:
Life! Not just living, but true, genuine life. Life that gives
us light that darkness cannot steal away. That's why God sent
Jesus! Thankfully that light still shines and all of Satan's horses
and all of Satan's men cannot put their deepest darkest darkness
together again! Hallelujah!
PRAYER:
For every good and perfect gift, for the light I have even in my

Your Child May Need Further Help
Day 185
When children grieve, they do not have the same capacity to understand
death that adults have. Be aware of any changes in your child's mood
or any odd behaviors that may indicate confusion or a misunderstanding
of death. Get your child to talk to you, and explore his or her fears
and questions together.
Heidi shares, "About a month after my husband died, my son was very
angry. My mother had come to stay with us for a while and had been
there for about a month. I think his thinking was that if she'll
leave, my daddy will come back. He became very angry toward her and
wanted her to leave. It was at that point that I realized there was
anger building up, and I didn't know how to deal with it because I was
going through my own emotions. I did seek counsel for my son; we put
him in counseling, and it was the most wonderful thing for him because
he was able to talk out his feelings."
You may need to seek counseling for your child to help him or her open
up further. Pray about this possibility, and always take time to talk
to your child and teach your child about the true healing that only
comes through Jesus Christ.
"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes" (Revelation 7:17 kjv).
Savior God, healing is found in You alone. Bond my family together in
the unity of Your healing love as we travel this journey of grief
together. Amen.

A Spirit Of Generosity
Featuring a chapter from an upcoming Christmas book called, "Saint
Nicholas: The Believer"
By Eric Elder
The Ranch
Some people believe in Santa Claus; some people don't. But I don't
think the original Saint Nicholas--the one who was the inspiration for
our modern-day Santa Claus--would care so much if you believed in him
so long as you believed in the one in whom he believed: Jesus Christ.
For you see Saint Nicholas, the one who lived back in the 3rd century
A.D, was a believer. The word "saint" means "believer," so Saint
Nicholas was "The Believer Nicholas."
The word "saint" has been translated into many languages over the
years, and "santa" is simply the Latin variation, hence the names of
some of our cities here in the U.S., like Santa Anna, Santa Barbara
and Santa Clara, each one of which were named after various believers,
or saints: the believer Anna, the believer Barbara, the believer
Clara, and so on.
When the Dutch came to America, they brought with them their variation
of Saint Nicholas, Sinterklaas, from which we got the name Santa
Claus.
I say all of this to introduce you to a special Christmas story that
my wife and I are writing about the life of the real-life Saint
Nicholas, the one who lived back in the 3rd century.
He was not only a man of great faith, but also a man of great
generosity. So as Christmas approaches, the season we celebrate the
greatest Gift of all, I thought I'd share with you a chapter from our
story-in-progress to prepare you for this great time of giving and
receiving.
The story picks up as Nicholas arrives by boat on the shores of the
Holy Land to see with his own eyes the places where Jesus lived and
died and performed so many miracles. Without further ado, here is
chapter 7 of our upcoming book, "Saint Nicholas: The Believer"...
Nicholas's arrival on the far shores of the Great Sea came sooner than
he could have imagined. For so long he had wondered what it would be
like to walk where Jesus walked, and now he was finally there.
Finding a boat to get there had been no problem, for his hometown was
one of the main stopovers for ships traveling from Egypt to Rome. They
carried people and cargo alike. Booking passage was as simple as
showing that you had the money to pay, which Nicholas did.
But now that he had arrived, where would he go first? He wanted to see
everything at once, but that was impossible. A tug at his sleeve
provided the answer.
"You a Christian?" the small voice asked.
Nicholas looked down to see a boy not more than ten looking up at him.
Two other children giggled nearby. To ask this question so directly,
when it was dangerous in general to do so, showed that the boy was
either a sincere follower of Christ, looking for a fellow believer, or
it showed that he had ulterior motives in mind. From the giggles of
his little friends nearby, a boy and a girl just a bit younger than
the one who had spoken, Nicholas knew it was probably the latter.
"You a Christian?" the boy asked again. "I show you holy places?"
Ah, that's it, thought Nicholas. Enough pilgrims had obviously come
here over the years that even the youngest inhabitants knew the
pilgrims would need a guide when they arrived. Looking over the three
children again, Nicholas felt they would suit him just fine. Nicholas
had a trusting heart, and while he wasn't naive enough to think that
trouble wouldn't find him here, he also trusted that the God who had
led him here would also provide the help he needed once he arrived.
Even if these children were doing it just for the money, that was all
right with Nicholas. Money he had. A map he didn't. He would gladly
hire them as his living maps to the holy places.
"Yes, and yes," Nicholas answered. "I am indeed a Christian, and if
you would like to take me, I would be very interested to see the holy
places. I would love for your friends to come along with us, too. That
way, if we meet any trouble, they can defend us all!"
The boy's mouth dropped open and his friends giggled again. It wasn't
the answer he had expected at all, at least not so fast and not
without a great deal of pestering on his part. Pilgrims who arrived
were usually much more skeptical when they stepped off their boats,
shooing away anyone who approached them-- at least until they got
their land legs back and their bearings straight. But the boy quickly
recovered from his shock and immediately extended his right hand in
front of him, palm upraised, with a slight bow of his head. It gave
Nicholas the subtle impression as if to say that the boy was at
Nicholas's service--and a not so subtle impression that the boy was
ready for something to be deposited in the open hand. Nicholas, seeing
an opportunity to throw the boy off guard yet again, happily obliged.
He placed three of his smallest, but shiniest coins into the boy's
upraised palm and said, "My name is Nicholas. And I can see you're a
wise man. And if you're able to keep your palm open even after I set
these coins in it, you'll be even wiser still. For he who clenches his
fist tightly around what he receives will find it hard to receive
more. But he who opens his hand freely to heaven--freely giving as he
has freely received--will find that his Father in heaven will never
hold back on giving him more."
Nicholas motioned with his hand that he intended for the boy to share
what he had received with his friends, who had come closer at the
appearance of the coins. The boy obviously was the spokesman for the
three, but still he faltered for a moment as to what to do. This man
was so different from anyone else the boy had ever approached. With
others, the boy was always trying, usually without success, to coax
even one such coin from their pockets, but here he had been given
three in his very first attempt! The fact that the coins weren't given
grudgingly, but happily, did indeed throw him off balance. He had
never heard such a thought as the one about keeping his hands open
like that. His instinct would have been to instantly clench his fist
tight around the coins, not letting go until he got to the safest
place he could find, and only then could he carefully inspect them and
let their glimmers shine in his eyes. Yet he stood stock still, with
his hand still outstretched and his palm facing upward. Almost against
his own self-will, he found himself turning slightly and extending his
hand to his friends.
Seizing the moment, the two others each quickly plucked a coin from
his hand. Within an instant of realizing that they, too, were about to
clench their firsts around the newly acquired treasure, they slowly
opened their fingers as well, looking up at the newly arrived pilgrim
with a sense of bewilderment. They were bewildered not just that he
had given them the coins, but that they were still standing there with
their palms open, surprising even themselves that they were willing to
follow this man's peculiar advice.
The sight of it all made Nicholas burst out in a gracious laugh. He
was delighted by their response and he quickly deposited two more of
his smallest coins into each of their hands, now tripling their
astonishment. It wasn't the amount of the gifts that had astonished
them, for they had seen bigger tips from wealthier pilgrims, but it
was the generous and cheerful spirit that accompanied the gifts that
gave them such a surprise.
The whole incident took place in less than a minute, but it set
Nicholas and his new friends into such a state that each of them
looked forward to the journey ahead.
"Now, you'd better close your hands again, because a wise man--or
woman--" he nodded to the little girl, "also takes care of what they
have been given so that it doesn't get lost or stolen."
Then, turning to walk toward the city, Nicholas said, "How about you
let me get some rest tonight, and then, first thing in the morning,
you can start showing me those holy places?"
In the magical moments that had just taken place, it seemed to the
three children, and even to Nicholas himself, as if they had already
found their first "holy place."
(To be continued...next week!)
My friends, as Christmas approaches, I want to pray with you that your
hands would be open to both give and receive all that God has for you
in the days ahead. There is so much blessing that God wants to pour
out on you. Yet if your heart and your hands are closed off to Him, or
closed so tight around what you've already been given, it will be hard
to receive any more.
I also want to encourage you to let the "spirit of generosity" flow
through you into the lives of others this Christmas season. God has
been speaking for generations about being "openhanded," saying to the
Israelites way back in Deuteronomy:
"There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you
to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in
your land" (Deuteronomy 15:11).
Jesus continued with this theme of openhandedness, sending His
disciples out on their mission of preaching and teaching and healing
with the words:
"Freely you have received, freely give" (Matthew 10:8b).
As you go into the world this Christmas, remember that so many people
are like "dead men walking." They're breathing, but not really living.
They need the breathe of God to resurrect their dying lives so they
can live the abundant life that God wants them to live.
If you've received God's gift of abundant and eternal life, please
consider sharing that gift with others this holiday season. People
don't need Jesus just because they might die tomorrow. They need Jesus
because they might live tomorrow!
Next week, I'll share another chapter with you from our new story
about Saint Nicholas. In the mean time, keep your hands--and your
hearts--open to all that God has in store for you!
Will you pray with me?
Father, thank You for giving us Your life so freely, and with it, so
many other gifts as well. Help us to remember to use those gifts to
bless others, breathing Your life into theirs. In Jesus' name, Amen.

THE GREAT WHITE THRONE THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST
By the late Pastor R. Hanna
Scripture Reading: Revelation 2l:11; 2 Corinthians 5:10
Many people - saved people - live in dread of death because they do not
understand the kind of judgment that they will face before God. There is
indeed a final judgment to come which is awesome and should strike fear in
the heart of those who will face it. The Apostle John wrote, describing
what was revealed to him in a vision on the Isle of Patmos: "I saw a great
white throne, and Him (Christ) that sat on it...and I saw the dead, small
and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book
was opened, which is the book of life ... and whosoever was not found
written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation
20: 11-15) Those described here are the lost - those who did not accept
God's proffered salvation before they died. The lost from all generations
are raised from the dead to face this sentence of eternal separation from
God.
But you and I, if we have been saved by the grace of God by faith, are not
destined to confront the Great White Throne. Our apostle has revealed that
"We must all appear before the judgment seat (BEMA) of Christ (not the
great white throne); that everyone may receive the things done in his body,
according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." (2 Corinthians
5:10) The works for which we will be judged are those accomplished in
service to God during our lives after we have been saved. "If any man's
work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss (of reward), but he himself
shall be saved ... " (I Corinthians 3:15)
"There are many dangerous trends pulling folks away from true Bible
Christianity. Many of the newer philosophies of ministry employ methods
that are wholly carnal. Some have adopted objectives that have not one line
of Scripture to support them, and some employ conduct that differs little
from the world. "

*Let us seek and Know Him! *
*When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe man's labor on

Meditation 12/3 - 12/9: Fight the good fight 2 Tim 4:2-8 MSG
Fight the good fight
I can't impress this on you too strongly. God is looking over your
shoulder. Christ himself is the Judge, with the final say on everyone,
living and dead. He is about to break into the open with his rule, so
proclaim the Message with intensity; keep on your watch. Challenge, warn,
and urge your people. Don't ever quit. Just keep it simple.
You're going to find that there will be times when people will have no
stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food -
catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They'll turn their backs on truth
and chase mirages. But you - keep your eye on what you're doing; accept the
hard times along with the good; keep the Message alive; do a thorough job
as God's servant.
You take over. I'm about to die, my life an offering on God's altar. This
is the only race worth running. I've run hard right to the finish, believed
all the way. All that's left now is the shouting - God's applause! Depend
on it, he's an honest judge. He'll do right not only by me, but by everyone
eager for his coming.

*JESUS CALLS MATTHEW TO BE A DISCIPLE*
*After the miraculous cure of the paralytic, Jesus
left the house and, as he passed along, saw Matthew,
known as Levi, the son of Alpheus, sitting in the
customhouse-where he performed his duties as tax
collector. Jesus said to him:*
*"Follow me".*
*Matthew arose and followed him. Later Jesus sat
down to a meal in Matthew's house. With him were
his diciples and many tax collectors and sinners.*
*Pharisees and scribes who saw them eating together
were surprised and said to the disciples:
"Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?"
Jesus, hearing them, said:*
*"They that are whole need not a physician; but they
that are sick. I came not to call the rightous, but
sinners to repentance".*
*Read Matthew: 9:9-13; Mark 2:13-17; Luke 5:27-32 *

*Daily Devotional
* Betty Miller shares her daily devotionals which are based
on the book of Proverbs in the Bible.* * * The Wisdom of God*
*Verses for the Day:
Proverbs 19:21(KJV):
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the
LORD, that shall stand.
Proverbs 19:21(NIV):
21 Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that
prevails.*
*Thoughts for the Day:*
This *verse* declares the sovereignty of God over the plans of men. Men
may plot and scheme to be able to have their plans come to pass, but only
God knows if they will be able to attain them, as He, and He alone, knows
the future. If God desires a certain plan to override men's plans, His
plans will most assuredly prevail, in spite of all the efforts of a man.
Certainly, as Christians, we are to plan our days; however, we should
always be very flexible to change our plans if God directs us to do
something different. I have read many testimonies of how people's lives
were saved because the Lord changed their plans and they did not go in a
certain direction at the time. If they would have done so, they would have
been destroyed. That is why we need to be very sensitive as to what God is
telling us to do at all times. It will save us much trouble and heartache
when we learn to hear and obey God.
In the book of *James *in the New Testament, he admonishes those who pursue
money and gain as their main goal with these words:
*James 4:13-15:
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city,
and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life?
It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth
away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this,
or that.*
The only safe place for anyone is in the will of God. If we remain in His
will, then we can rest assured that the promises of God will not fail us.
However, if we rebel and declare our plans above His plans for our lives,
we can leave ourselves open for the attacks of the enemy to come against
us. If God* *is speaking to us to do certain things today, it is so that
we might be spared pain tomorrow. He loves us and has the best plan for
our lives. We just must learn to trust Him and not to lean upon our own
understanding.
*Proverbs 3:5-7:
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.*
If we ask the Lord to show us the path to take, or the right thing to do;
He promises us that He will show us and He will direct our way.* *We can
trust Him. He will never fail us. He will give us the strength and wisdom
to overcome in any situation.
*Psalm 37:4-5:
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of
thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to
pass.*
The Lord wants to give us every *righteous* desire of our hearts, as He is
a good God that desires to bless His children. The only reason He would
refrain from doing so, is that we are not ready or able to receive the
things we are praying for today. Also, if other people's wills are involved
in what we are praying about, He then must wait and work with them until
they are also willing. However, if we commit our way unto the Lord and
trust and obey Him, He shall bring it to pass.
*Prayer for the Day:*
*Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you that You care for me. Forgive me when I
fail to trust You and try to take matters in my own hands. Lord, I know
that You have the best plan for my life. Please give me the grace to
accept it and to do the things that you are speaking to me about each day.
Lord, help me to be patient as You work in other people's lives that affect
mine. May I extend to them the same grace and mercy that You have extended
to me. Lord, grant me the grace to change the things in my life that are
not pleasing to You. I do delight in You, knowing that Your plan for my
life is being worked out according to Your will and not mine. I ask this in
the name of Jesus, my Lord. Amen.*

Always More to Follow
James 4:1--17
"'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'" (v. 6)
Why have some Christians received more grace? If, as we said, grace is
undeserved favor, does that mean God has favorites? Is there something
capricious about the Almighty's allocation of help to His children?
Some secular writers have portrayed God as being like men and women,
biased in His affections and having an inexplicable preference for one
person and disinterest in another. But surely God does not take "a
fancy" to some people and not others. There is favor to be found in
God, but no favoritism. His favor moves to all who are willing and
eager to receive it. But to return to our question: Why do some
receive more grace than others? I think the main reason must be this
-- they know that there is grace to be had. Sometimes I come across
Christians who think that God's only concern is to get us on to the
pilgrim way and that He then leaves us to our own devices.
You can tell such people by the way they talk about their conversion
-- and nothing more. They seem unconcerned about the fact that God's
great aim is not simply to bring us into the Christian life but to
develop us in it. He is not content with calling us "saints" but
making us saints; not simply cancelling sin but breaking its power
over us. Those who use God's grace are those who know He has plenty to
give. Of this they are confident, and thus they keep it in mind all
the time. When they have used what they have, they know there is
always more to follow.
Prayer:
O Father, what a comfort it is to know that however much I draw on
Your grace there is always more to follow. I cannot draw heavily on
many things but I can draw heavily on You. May this be more than an
idea; may it be a fact. In Christ's Name. Amen.

Morning
No [man] is able to pluck [them] out of my Father's hand.
I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that
which I have committed unto him against that day.-- The Lord shall deliver
me from every evil work, and will preserve [me] unto his heavenly
kingdom.--We are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am
persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.--Your life is hid with Christ in God.
Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the
kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
Our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved
us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation and good hope through
grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Evening
The perfect law of liberty.
Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. . . . Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. . .
. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and
be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.--For, brethren, ye have
been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the
flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one
word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.--Being then
made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.--For the woman
which hath an husband is bound by the law to [her] husband so long as he
liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of [her]
husband.
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the
law of sin and death.--I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

Morning
"So shall we ever be with the Lord."-1 Thessalonians 4:17
Even the sweetest visits from Christ, how short they are-and how
transitory! One moment our eyes see Him, and we rejoice with joy
unspeakable and full of glory, but again a little time and we do not see
Him, for our beloved withdraws Himself from us; like a roe or a young hart
He leaps over the mountains of division; He is gone to the land of spices,
and feeds no more among the lilies.
"If to-day He deigns to bless us
With a sense of pardoned sin,
He to-morrow may distress us,
Make us feel the plague within."
Oh, how sweet the prospect of the time when we shall not behold Him at a
distance, but see Him face to face: when He shall not be as a wayfaring man
tarrying but for a night, but shall eternally enfold us in the bosom of His
glory. We shall not see Him for a little season, but
"Millions of years our wondering eyes,
Shall o'er our Saviour's beauties rove;
And myriad ages we'll adore,
The wonders of His love."
In heaven there shall be no interruptions from care or sin; no weeping
shall dim our eyes; no earthly business shall distract our happy thoughts;
we shall have nothing to hinder us from gazing for ever on the Sun of
Righteousness with unwearied eyes. Oh, if it be so sweet to see Him now and
then, how sweet to gaze on that blessed face for aye, and never have a
cloud rolling between, and never have to turn one's eyes away to look on a
world of weariness and woe! Blest day, when wilt thou dawn? Rise, O
unsetting sun! The joys of sense may leave us as soon as they will, for
this shall make glorious amends. If to die is but to enter into
uninterrupted communion with Jesus, then death is indeed gain, and the
black drop is swallowed up in a sea of victory.

"Whose heart the Lord opened."-Acts 16:14
In Lydia's conversion there are many points of interest. It was brought
about by providential circumstances. She was a seller of purple, of the
city of Thyatira, but just at the right time for hearing Paul we find her
at Philippi; providence, which is the handmaid of grace, led her to the
right spot. Again, grace was preparing her soul for the blessing-grace
preparing for grace. She did not know the Saviour, but as a Jewess, she
knew many truths which were excellent stepping-stones to a knowledge of
Jesus. Her conversion took place in the use of the means. On the Sabbath
she went when prayer was wont to be made, and there prayer was heard. Never
neglect the means of grace; God may bless us when we are not in His house,
but we have the greater reason to hope that He will when we are in
communion with His saints. Observe the words, "Whose heart the Lord
opened." She did not open her own heart. Her prayers did not do it; Paul
did not do it. The Lord Himself must open the heart,!
to receive the things which make for our peace. He alone can put the key
into the hole of the door and open it, and get admittance for Himself. He
is the heart's master as He is the heart's maker. The first outward
evidence of the opened heart was obedience. As soon as Lydia had believed
in Jesus, she was baptized. It is a sweet sign of a humble and broken
heart, when the child of God is willing to obey a command which is not
essential to his salvation, which is not forced upon him by a selfish fear
of condemnation, but is a simple act of obedience and of communion with his
Master. The next evidence was love, manifesting itself in acts of grateful
kindness to the apostles. Love to the saints has ever been a mark of the
true convert. Those who do nothing for Christ or His church, give but sorry
evidence of an "opened" heart. Lord, evermore give me an opened heart.

Source: Lessons on Living from Solomon
Scripture Reference: 1 Kings 3:23-25 James 1:5 2 Peter 1:5
1 Kings 3:23-25
And the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son, who lives, and your
son is the dead one'; and the other says, 'No! But your son is the
dead one, and my son is the living one.'" Then the king said, "Bring
me a sword." So they brought a sword before the king. And the king
said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half
to the other."
Know-how Plus
How many times have you come across a new invention and thought, I
could have invented that! Recently I walked though an area at work
where employees at Back to the Bible are allowed to display items for
sale. Someone had come up with a nifty wooden rack for displaying
Beanie Babies. Anyone could have invented it, yet it took someone who
not only thought of the idea but actually made the product to reap the
benefits. Wisdom is knowing the right thing to do and then doing it at
the right time.
Solomon demonstrated that kind of practical wisdom. Faced with the
need to determine the true mother of a newborn, he resorted to what he
knew about motherhood. He applied that knowledge by suggesting the
child be cut in two, with half given to each woman who claimed to be
the child's mother. As expected, the real mother refused while the
false claimant was willing to go along with the suggestion. The writer
of 1 Kings says the people heard of this judgment and "feared the
king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer
justice" (3:28).
Knowledge is important in a Christian's life (2 Pet. 1:5), but we also
need the wisdom to apply it. It's not sufficient to have the
know-how--we have to do something with that know-how. Only as God
shows us how to apply what we know can we lay claim to the gift of
wisdom.
Are you lacking in wisdom? James says, "Ask of God" (James 1:5). Ask
God to give you not only knowledge but also the practical wisdom of
knowing how to apply it.
Wisdom puts feet to your knowledge.
