Speak Your Mind Without Fear
"Speak up! It will do your self-confidence wonders."

If you're in a meeting at work or at a family gathering don't be
afraid to share your thoughts, opinions, and ideas. They're just as
important as the thoughts, opinions and ideas of the others in the
room.

When you don't share your thoughts because you fear how they
will be received and the reaction they may trigger, you slowly chip
away at your self-confidence.

If the thought of speaking up makes your whole body tense, then
start with smaller one-on-one conversations. This is perfect practice
for the important occasions that will surely follow.

I certainly don't regret my experiences because without them, I
couldn't imagine who or where I would be today. Life is an amazing

You don't have to wish or hope for things
to happen, because you can make things happen.

You don't have to wonder whether
something will work or not, because you
can gather the resources, make the
effort and find out for yourself.

There's no need to live in fear of what
life might bring. You can make your life
unfold in the way you'd like to see it unfold.

There's no reason to worry about lack or
limitation. You can act to work your way
through whatever obstacles and
challenges are present.

Of all the abilities you have, the most powerful
ability is the ability to utilize your abilities in
a meaningful way. Not only can you make things
happen, you can make things happen with
purpose and intention and in the service of
your highest values.

Don't worry or wonder or beg or steal or wish
or regret or envy or wait. Use all that energy
to make life happen,
in the way you know is best, right now.

You have the ability to change your life.

You can do anything that you set your mind to.

You are the author of your own life .

You have the ability to change your life.

You have unlimited potential !

You are a living magnet. You literally attract the things ,
people , ideas , and circumstances to you that vibrate and resonate at
the same energy frequency as yours.Your energy field changes
constantly , based on your thoughts and feelings , and the universe
acts like a mirror , sending back a reflection of the energy that you
are projecting. The stronger and more intense your thoughts and
emotions are , the greater the magnetic pull becomes. Now , this is not
a process that requires any real effort ; a magnet doesn't ''try'' to
attract anything-it simple does , and so do you !You are always in the
process of attracting something into your life.

Do you realize that your life at this very moment is the
result of everything that you have ever thought , done , believed ,
or felt up until now ?You can start right now to consciously and
deliberately attract whatever you desire in this lifetime.

We Band of Brothers

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move
you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you
know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. --I Corinthians 15:58

My husband, Ken, would never think of going into spiritual
battle alone. When the adversary turns up the heat, Ken reaches out to
his brothers in Christ. He has invested years in prayer, Bible study
and scripture memorization with a handful of close friends, and he
knows these faithful believers will "cover his back" when the devil's
bullets start flying. He calls these men his "band of brothers."

The line comes from Shakespeare's account of Henry V at
Agincourt. King Henry's army had been reduced to a small band of tired
and weary men. They were outnumbered by the French five to one. But
Henry rallies them with these words of inspiration:

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,

This day shall gentle his condition;

And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,

And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us...

Henry took them to victory.

Encourage a weary believer today... go into prayerful
battle on his or her behalf... remind your brother or sister in Christ
that victory is assured. This tired and worn down friend needs your
help; the fight against the devil is dark and dangerous. We Christians
may be few, but we are a happy few. We are fellow warriors with each
beside the other. And as long as we stand firm and let nothing move
us, our Captain shall take us to victory!

Lord, help me to take my friendships to a deeper level in
which prayer, study, confession of sin, honesty, transparency and
spiritual openness rally us to your side. Make us aware of the
spiritual warfare in which we are engaged today.

Blessings,

Today's Promise from the Bible

Psalm 18:28

For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Reflection

The earth is a haven for darkness and the things that lurk and creep.
Foul is the world and thick is its shadow. The dim murk of this fallen
land threatens all that is living and fair. We would be swallowed and
bound in slavery to that dark roiling but that we are become children
of light. The Father of Light guides our paths and so our ways become
clear. His Son is the Light of the world and the darkness flees from
before His glory! Abide in Him, dear believer, and rejoice that you
can now see!

Godly Use of Authority

Ephesians 5:25-27: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the
church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by
the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself
as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish,
but holy and blameless.

Husbands, and anyone in authority, should see that Christ did not use
authority as a means of gaining anything for Himself, but instead used
his position to give Himself wholly for the love that He had. Christ,
our rightful Lord, came to be a servant. And we should follow His
example.

The Last Chapter

The four Gospels tell the story of the life and ministry of Jesus, and
in so doing, they follow accurately the ordinary course of biography,
giving the facts of His birth, growth, work, death and burial. That is
the way with biography: the very word itself suggests it, for it comes
from bios, life, and graphein, to write, and means the written history
of a person's life. So says Noah Webster. Now, when we look at the
Gospels we note an odd--and wonderful--thing. An extra chapter is
added. Why? Biography, by its own definition, must confine itself to
the record of the life of an individual. That part of the book which
deals with the family tree is not biography, but history, and that
part which follows the record of the subject's death is not biography
either. It may be appraisal, or eulogy, or criticism, but not
biography, for the reason that the "bios" is gone: the subject is
dead. The part that tells of his death is properly the last chapter.
The only place in world literature where this order is broken is in
the four Gospels. They record the story of the man Jesus from birth to
death, and end like every other book of biography has ended since the
art of writing was invented. . . . They all agree: Jesus was dead. The
life about which they had been writing was gone. The biography was
ended. Then, for the only time in this history of human thought, a
biographer adds to his book a new section which is authentic biography
and begins to write a chapter to follow the last chapter. . . .

Verse
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still
in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are
lost. 1 Corinthians 15:17-18

Thought
If Christ had not risen from that tomb of death our faith and that of
millions of believers over the centuries would be utterly futile.
There would be no hope, absolutely none.

Prayer
O Risen Christ, my faith looks up to You. Because You live so may I. Hallelujah!

Inspirational Readings by A.B. Simpson
Days of Heaven on Earth

Difficulties and obstacles are God's challenges to faith. When
hindrances confront us in the path of duty we are to recognize them as
vessels that faith can fill with the fullness and all-sufficiency of
Jesus. As we go forward, simply and fully trusting Him, we may be
tested, and we may have to wait and let patience have her perfect
work. But at last we shall surely find the stone rolled away and the
Lord waiting to render unto us double for our time of testing and to
fulfill the promise, Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree,
. . . and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign
that shall not be cut off.

Oft there comes a wondrous message

When my hopes are growing dim;

I can hear it through the darkness,

Like some sweet and far-off hymn:

Nothing is too hard for Jesus,

No man can work like Him.

Scripture
Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree—Isaiah 55:13

Our Sufficient Abba

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from
ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.
2 Corinthians 3:5

Recommended Reading
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
"Mommy, can you put this barrette in my hair?" "Daddy, the chain came off
my bike. Can you fix it?" "Coach, what can I do on the weights to begin
building more strength?" "Pastor, can you help us resolve an issue in our
relationship that we keep getting stuck on?"

Those questions--and a thousand more just like them--suggest a couple of
things about the person who is asking. The first is inadequacy. Whether a
result of age, immaturity, inexperience, or lack of training, everyone is
inadequate in some (many) ways. The second is a willingness to ask for
help. Children don't hesitate to ask for help, while adults are sometimes
hesitant due to pride. If we are to make progress in our spiritual life, we
have to embrace both realities: inadequacy and a willingness to ask God for
help. The Bible says God is our Abba (the Aramaic word for "daddy") who
stands ready to hear His children's requests for help (Romans 8:15;
Galatians 4:6).

If we were sufficient in all things, we wouldn't need God's sufficiency. It
is up to us to recognize our inadequacy and be willing to ask for help.

Contagious Joy
1 John 1:1-4
Jesus calls us to be His "witnesses." When some Christians hear this word,
they worry that they need exceptional skill or charisma in order to share
the good news with others. Yet to witness is not to merely speak of the
"plan of salvation" to someone. The word literally means to see, hear, or
know by personal presence and perception; to testify; bear witness to; give
or afford evidence of. When John wrote that he was sharing what he had
experienced first-hand, he was saying, "I am full of joy because of the
experience of knowing Jesus, and I want to invite you to share in that joy!"
When you're in love with someone, you are excited about the relationship
and time spent together. Likewise, when you're in love with Jesus, you
can't keep to yourself the joy that comes from knowing Him—it just spills
over, bearing witness and strengthening other believers. In fact, as you
give testimony of who God is and how He's working in your life, it makes no
difference whether you speak quietly or with great exuberance: in their
spirit, Christians will pick up on the deep, genuine gladness in your heart
that goes beyond natural happiness. And people who don't yet know the Lord
will find themselves hungering for the relationship you have. In that way,
they will be drawn to His Spirit in you.
Witnessing is not a matter of eloquence or talent. It's an overflow of the
personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is conforming you to His
image. As you allow the Holy Spirit to increasingly express His life and
power through you, contagious joy will be "fruit" of His indwelling
presence.

Your Word in My Heart
"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against
you." Psalm 119:11

As we saturate ourselves in God's word, we will find that His words
are hidden in our hearts. When temptations come, God's word will act
as a guard to keep us from falling into sin. It will remind us that we
should never allow the sun to set on our anger. It will remind us that
God hates a lying tongue. It will remind us that our bodies are a
temple of God. As we spend time in God's word, it will become more and
more a part of who we are, and it will guide us to live as He would
have us live. It will act as a sentry, allowing to enter only that
which is holy. It will convict us when sin reaches to take hold of us.
It will act to remind us that God will never leave us nor forsake us.
It will keep our hearts from worry and despair knowing that His word
has told us over and over again that God loves us and will keep us
from all harm. Grab hold of His precious promises and keep them hidden
in your heart. Unbelief and a lack of faith in your Father is a
sin. We often forget that. Hide his word in your heart that you might
always bring glory and honor to your faithful Father.
O Lord, we so often fail You because we have not taken Your word and
hidden it in our hearts. Help me to saturate myself in Your word.
Bring to mind Your words when sin sits at my door. Let Your words
bring me life and victory as I am reminded of Your faithfulness and
Your promises of help in time of need. Let me call on You for the help
You have promised me in Your word. Amen

Keep Your Eyes on the Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd—He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He
leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2

Keep your eyes on the Shepherd! The Shepherd of the 23rd Psalm.

In the second verse, David the poet becomes David the artist. His
quill becomes a brush, his parchment a canvas, and his words paint a
picture. A flock of sheep on folded legs, encircling a shepherd.
Bellies nestled deep in the long shoots of grass. A still pond on one
side, the watching shepherd on the other. "He makes me to lie down in
green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters" (Psalm. 23:2
NKJV).

Note the two pronouns preceding the two verbs. He makes me … He leads me …
Who is the active one? Who is in charge? The Shepherd. The shepherd
selects the trail and prepares the pasture. The sheep's job—our job—is
to watch the Shepherd.

Devotional For Dieters 12/14

December 14

Hebrews 10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of
God, ye might receive the promise.

Paula woke up in pain. Her stomach was cramping, and she felt ill. It
must have been the diet pills. Her friend had told her they were safe
and they'd help take off weight three times as fast as normal. Why had
she listened to her? She knew pills weren't the answer, but she wanted
to lose weight fast. She never had been very good on patience. Her
mother told her to pray for patience, but no, Paula thought she had a
better idea. The truth was, there was only one way she was going to
lose weight, and that was through perseverance and patience. Her
mother was right. If God would give her a second chance, maybe
together they could make it work.

Today's thought: Nothing takes off weight faster than devotion and commitment!

How Charlie Brown Almost Missed Christmas - #6503
Wednesday, December 14, 2011

The little kid with the round head and the pitiful tree! He's become a
regular part of America's Christmas. Our kids watched "The Charlie
Brown Christmas" when they were little, and that thing's been around
so long, now their kids love it and their parents never stopped loving
it.
We can all hear Charlie Brown's angst-ridden question ringing out
above the Christmas mayhem, "Isn't there anybody who can tell me what
Christmas is all about?" Enter blanket boy; Linus to the rescue. As he
steps into the spotlight on that little stage, he turns the spotlight
on Jesus. "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior
which is Christ the Lord." But did you know that line almost didn't
happen?
I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "How
Charlie Brown Almost Missed Christmas."
Charles Schulz, the creator of "Peanuts," was honestly under pressure
to leave the Jesus part out of his first attempt at a TV special. But
he stood his ground. He said, "If we don't do this, who will?" That's
a little known story, but you know the rest is history. In our
post-Christian culture, Linus' little speech about "to you is born a
Savior" may be the only fragment of the Gospel some people have ever
heard.
But you don't have to be a prime-time TV producer to feel the pressure
to not bring up Jesus. Most of us who've ever tried to live for Him
have experienced that pressure. Oh, it's OK to talk about church, and
family values, and even God. But Jesus is the problem. How many times
in a spiritual conversation have we choked when we got to the name of
Jesus? So it comes out "God" that we talk about, which allows the
listener to think whatever "God" means to them. But Jesus, well,
there's not much mistaking who He is.
This should not come as a surprise. Satan has been trying to edit out
Jesus for 2,000 years! The early disciples were hauled in by the same
religious leaders who had arranged for the crucifixion of Jesus. You
can understand having your knees knocking at that point. They were
ordered to never again mention "The Name" in their preaching. The
disciples response? They never stopped teaching and proclaiming the
Good News that Jesus is the Christ (Acts 5:42). Why?
Well, as it says in our word for today from the Word of God, in Acts
4:12, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name,
no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Well, hell knows that. Heaven knows that, and we must never again
choke on that name. He was not ashamed of me, how can I be ashamed of
Him? The power, the salvation is in the name. No Jesus, no heaven.
That's why our enemy can't stand to hear the Name.
And that's why we can't afford to leave out Jesus. His Name is where
the power is. His name is where the hope is. His name is where the
heaven is. Many Christmases ago a cartoonist made a courageous choice
and refused to edit the Name. This Christmas would be a good time for
you to make that same choice.

December 14
A Christ Not in Us...
Galatians 2:11--21
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ
lives in me." (v. 20)
We saw yesterday that the apostle Paul claimed his labors were
energized by the grace given to him by God. He says something similar
in the text before us today: "I no longer live ... Christ lives in
me." The apostle had learned that it was not enough to give all of his
strength to the work of Christ, though he certainly did that; he had
to receive Christ's strength in order to do His work. I have seen
Christians suffer a breakdown as a result of trying to live the
Christian life in their own strength.
On one occasion I was present at a dinner given in honor of a certain
bishop. During the after-dinner speeches I heard a layman make a
terrible blunder when he declared: "Bishop, we are both doing God's
work; you in your way, and I in His." Question yourself at this very
moment and ask: Am I doing God's work in my own way or in His? "A
Christ not in us, imparting His grace to us," said the great preacher
William Law, "is the same as a Christ not ours." I don?t know about
you but I find those words terribly challenging. Is this why so many
of us fail to go as deeply with God as we ought? We have received
Christ but we do not allow Him to diffuse Himself through all our
faculties, to animate us with His life and Spirit. Let William Law's
words strike deep into your soul: "A Christ not in us, imparting His
grace ... is the same as a Christ not ours."

Prayer:
Gracious and loving Father, your challenges are my salvation. You
wound in order to win me. Help me to take my medicine without
complaining and open myself up to all that You are saying to me in the
words I have read today. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

December 14, 2011 *[image: Daily Devotional] * *God is worthy**
**Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power,
because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist
and were created. Revelation 4:11
*
Nestled in the low mountains of central Santa Catarina, Brazil, was a small
city crying out for God. Darkness and fear enveloped the residents.

A lonely street light beckoned the American team to a simple home. Inside,
a small band of believers were singing. A new church was beginning. As we
walked in, we felt the presence of the Lord. Warmth and worship occurred
that night.

A. W. Tozer said, "We are called to an everlasting preoccupation with God."
Simple yet profound, his statement reminds us that only God deserves
worship. All of creation is in concert. More than one hundred billion
galaxies and a countless number of stars, all in synch, worship Him. Words
are not enough to express His glory and honor.

In essence, our feeble minds can't comprehend the creative hand of God. Yet
we know of Him by observing God's creation. We worship because we are part
of the created order. Our perspective must change preoccupation with self
to preoccupation with Him, or we'll miss exhilarating experiences of true
worship.

Father, You are worthy of all my worship.

When we die, life goes on. But, it will not go on forever. According to the
second law of thermodynamics, the universe will undergo a heat death. All
the heat will dissipate, leaving subatomic particles in a state of
equilibrium. No action. All will be still. We die. So does life itself die.
Yet, the Bible says God does not die. God is everlasting. And, further, God
promises a new and everlasting creation. We are invited to be part of it.
The door is resurrection. At Christmas we celebrate God's previous coming
in the manger, while during Advent we celebrate our promised rebirth in
God's new world. Does this mean the future comes before the past?

*God of new life, turn our attention toward the true life you have in store
for us. When our hour of death nears, sustain us with hope. Amen. *

*The active Word

*December 14, 2011*

*Anna*

*Now there was one, Anna... (Luke 2:36 NKJV) *
*

The name Anna means "grace," and that seems all the more appropriate when
we consider the character of Anna, who graces Luke's gospel. Not a lot is
recorded about her. She only occupies three verses (Luke 2:36-38), but
within those verses we get a portrait of someone special.

For starters, we're told that she was a prophetess (Luke 2:36). In other
words, she was a woman who was consistently proclaiming the Word of God.
She knew what the Word said, and she was willing to share it with others in
a way that was applicable.

We're also told she was a widow of great age, 84 years old according to
Luke 2:37, and that her husband had passed away seven years into their
marriage. According to custom, Anna was probably married before she was
twenty. So when we do the math, we see it's likely she lived as a widow for
more than fifty years.

But instead of going through life as a bitter and lonely woman, Luke tells
us she lived a full life-she stayed close to the Temple and served God
through fasting and praying night and day (Luke 2:27). Though single for
the vast majority of her life, she wasn't defined by a man's absence but
instead was defined by God's presence.

And it's to this woman, who had been faithful for so long, that God granted
the blessing of being able to behold Jesus as He was being dedicated as an
infant (Luke 2:38). True to form, she was at the Temple. And true to form
she prophesied that this Babe from Bethlehem would be the Redeemer of
Israel (Luke 2:28).

Although He certainly isn't obligated to do so, God has a way of blessing
those who base their lives on Him, and Anna's long life is a shining
example. Whether we're young, old, or in the middle; single, married, or
widowed...may we be occupied with the things of the Lord, and may He bless
us according to His extravagant grace.

Think About It? What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does
this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I
need to make? What is my prayer for today?

Morning

Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power. --As ye have
therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: rooted and
built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught,
abounding therein with thanksgiving.--Trees of righteousness, the planting
of the LORD, that he might be glorified.--Built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];
in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple
in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God
through the Spirit.

I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build
you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are
sanctified.--Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by
Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Fight the good fight of faith.--In nothing terrified by your adversaries.

Evening

Thou renderest to every man according to his work.

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus
Christ.--If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall
receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss:
but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.--We must all appear
before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things
[done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good
or bad.

When thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret
himself shall reward thee openly.-- After a long time the lord of those
servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves;
but our sufficiency [is] of God.--LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for
thou also hast wrought all our works in us.

Morning

"Salt without prescribing how much."-Ezra 7:22

Salt was used in every offering made by fire unto the Lord, and from its
preserving and purifying properties it was the grateful emblem of divine
grace in the soul. It is worthy of our attentive regard that, when
Artaxerxes gave salt to Ezra the priest, he set no limit to the quantity,
and we may be quite certain that when the King of kings distributes grace
among His royal priesthood, the supply is not cut short by Him. Often are
we straitened in ourselves, but never in the Lord. He who chooses to gather
much manna will find that he may have as much as he desires. There is no
such famine in Jerusalem that the citizens should eat their bread by weight
and drink their water by measure. Some things in the economy of grace are
measured; for instance our vinegar and gall are given us with such
exactness that we never have a single drop too much, but of the salt of
grace no stint is made, "Ask what thou wilt and it shall be given unto
thee." Parents need to lock up the fruit cupb!
oard, and the sweet jars, but there is no need to keep the salt-box under
lock and key, for few children will eat too greedily from that. A man may
have too much money, or too much honour, but he cannot have too much grace.
When Jeshurun waxed fat in the flesh, he kicked against God, but there is
no fear of a man's becoming too full of grace: a plethora of grace is
impossible. More wealth brings more care, but more grace brings more joy.
Increased wisdom is increased sorrow, but abundance of the Spirit is
fulness of joy. Believer, go to the throne for a large supply of heavenly
salt. It will season thine afflictions, which are unsavoury without salt;
it will preserve thy heart which corrupts if salt be absent, and it will
kill thy sins even as salt kills reptiles. Thou needest much; seek much,
and have much.

Evening

"I will make thy windows of agates."-Isaiah 54:12

The church is most instructively symbolized by a building erected by
heavenly power, and designed by divine skill. Such a spiritual house must
not be dark, for the Israelites had light in their dwellings; there must
therefore be windows to let the light in and to allow the inhabitants to
gaze abroad. These windows are precious as agates: the ways in which the
church beholds her Lord and heaven, and spiritual truth in general, are to
be had in the highest esteem. Agates are not the most transparent of gems,
they are but semi-pellucid at the best:

"Our knowledge of that life is small,
Our eye of faith is dim."
Faith is one of these precious agate windows, but alas! it is often so
misty and beclouded, that we see but darkly, and mistake much that we do
see. Yet if we cannot gaze through windows of diamonds and know even as we
are known, it is a glorious thing to behold the altogether lovely One, even
though the glass be hazy as the agate. Experience is another of these dim
but precious windows, yielding to us a subdued religious light, in which we
see the sufferings of the Man of Sorrows, through our own afflictions. Our
weak eyes could not endure windows of transparent glass to let in the
Master's glory, but when they are dimmed with weeping, the beams of the Sun
of Righteousness are tempered, and shine through the windows of agate with
a soft radiance inexpressibly soothing to tempted souls. Sanctification, as
it conforms us to our Lord, is another agate window. Only as we become
heavenly can we comprehend heavenly things. The pure in heart see a pure
God. Those who are like Jesu!
s see Him as He is. Because we are so little like Him, the window is but
agate; because we are somewhat like Him, it is agate. We thank God for what
we have, and long for more. When shall we see God and Jesus, and heaven and
truth, face to face?

*Mark chapter 14 verses 3-9 tell the story of a woman who broke a jar of
expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus' head. The onlookers immediately
found fault, saying that the perfume could have been sold and the money

purpose of what the woman had done which they had completely missed. As
Christians, our eyes should be always looking beyond reason, beyond first
impressions, and beyond ourselves in order to allow Christ to reveal to us
His purposes in all things. Yet, so often we see something in church or in
another Christian's life and become indignant. Our eyes become clouded by
our judgments of how we believe things should be, and we completely miss
what God may be doing right before our eyes.*

DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD
"Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your
heart." Psalm 37:4Too often we read Scripture without concentrating on
what we are reading and therefore miss completely what God has to say
to us. We read quickly without delving into the depths of what has
been written. We need to read God's Word slowly, thoughtfully,
incisively with a desire, not only to understand what is being said,
but to seek to apply to our lives the truth or principle before us.
With this, we need to have eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts open
to respond to all God wants to reveal to us. The Holy Spirit has been
given to us, not simply to dwell within our hearts, but to teach and
give us discernment to understand His Word and make it a reality in
our daily walk.

What do you think it means to "delight yourself in the Lord?" We
quickly read the following words "and he will give you the desires of
your heart" without realizing this promise is to those who "delight
themselves in the Lord." So let us see what it means to delight
ourselves in the Lord.

First, "delight" means to find great joy and pleasure in someone or
something. If we are to delight ourselves in the Lord we will have to
withdraw from the base desires we have in the things of this world
that hinder, distract, and impede the focus of our hearts on Christ.
Paul admonished the believers in Corinth to "Come out from among them
and be separate...touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you" (2
Corinthians 6:17). We cannot delight in the Lord when a divided heart
contaminates our lives. God responds to a clean heart and pure spirit
that is bent to being filled to overflowing with His Spirit.

The major thrust of our heart must be to fix our desires on HIM. We
must cultivate the habit of a holy intimacy with the Lord. This takes
discipline on our part responding to the Holy Spirit as He seeks to
draw us unto the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a hunger and
thirst to know the Lord in a new and living way that will bring you
into this personal intimate relationship. It will be the joy of your
heart and the love of your life. When we are receptive and responsive
to the Holy Spirit, He will create in us a peace that passes human
understanding, a joy that is unspeakable and full of glory with a
desire for the Lord that will enable HIM to give us the desires of our
heart.

When God is the desire of our hearts, our seeming disappointments will
be His appointments to prove anew His grace and mercy to us. He
becomes the sufficiency for all our need "according to his riches in
glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). Fear, anxiety, and
apprehension are lost as we rest and abide in His care and compassion.

God wants to encompass our life with His presence and power. His
virtues, attributes and works should be ever before us and spur us on
to an abandoned faith in the One who is "the same yesterday, today and
forever." Looking steadfastly to Jesus will create a deeper admiration
of who He is and elicit our allegiance, reverence, and respect. It is
then we will know the joy and peace from finding our delight in the
Lord. The resources of His grace are infinite.

To delight in the Lord is to find the desires of our heart the very
expression of His will, plan, and purpose in our life. His desires for
us become our desires. He delights to give us what will be for our
good, for His glory, and to magnify His name. "Delight yourself in the
Lord and he shall give you the desires of your heart."
