If you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance to make everything right.
There will always be another day to say our "I love you's", And
certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do's?"
But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I'd
like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget, Tomorrow
is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, And today may be the
last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day, That
you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss and you
were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last
wish.
So hold your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear, Tell
them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear,
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "thank you" or
"it's okay".
And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.

People will forget what you did,
But people will never forget how you made them feel"

Your Hidden Potential
Your life has been designed to work, and your hidden potential
contains what you seek and all that you need in life. It is OK to be
who you are and choose what you have. The Quakers call it the "still,
small voice within," that place of full awareness within that is in
touch with the entire universe and is the source of wisdom. In
effect, you don't have to keep searching for confirmation by focusing
on being someone else or being somewhere else. There is no place else
to be and nothing else to get. You will be able to grasp the levels
of change in your life when you can allow yourself to be present in
the moment, accept the world as it is, and trust that everything is as
it was intended to be. Thomas Merton put it succinctly: "We have
what we seek. It is there all the time, and if we give it time it
will make itself known to us." Putting it another way, the Zen writer
Senrin wrote: "If you do not get it from yourself, where will you go
for it?"
Many people are dissatisfied even thought they have what they
believe everyone wants and should want--a nice home, a good job, and
the like. They are unfulfilled by their achievements or acquisitions
and even their relationships. But they don't know why they are
uncomfortable or what it is they really want or how little effort they
devote to what they really want to do.
What leads to this misplaced effort, to this lack of meaningful
direction? Many difficulties result from faulty self-images learned
in your earliest years. Much of your personality and your concept of
yourself comes from the emphasis on some and the neglect of other
features of your personality during your childhood. If this emphasis
matched your temperament, talents, and special skills, you have
developed an accurate and realistic self-image. If not, you have
probably experienced much conflict. You may, for example, have an
inclination to paint but were conditioned to reject it. The more you
become aware of these suppressed sides of yourself, the more you will
be able to accept and utilize your hidden potential. While your
choices as a child may have been limited, they need no longer be
limited. You decide what to do with your life. In the last analysis,
your behavior, not chance or the concepts of others, determines your
concept of yourself and whether or not you will reach the goals you
set.

THE DAILY MOTIVATOR
Tursday, December 15, 2011
Figure it out
+++++++++++++++++++
Life can be complicated, frustrating, unfair and highly
arbitrary, and that can make it extremely difficult to know
what's best to do. Yet you have the ability, and the
opportunity, to figure it out.
Plenty of people will be happy to give you advice, and much
of that advice can be quite valuable. No one, however, can
consider that advice from your unique perspective and apply
it to your life as well as you can.
If you always depend on someone else to tell you what to do,
your life will be long on resentment and frustration, and
short on fulfillment. To enjoy real success and achievement,
you must spend the time and effort to figure it out for
yourself.
It is a serious, essential responsibility, and if you choose
to see it as a burden, it will be. Yet you can just as
realistically choose to see it as an opportunity, for it is
truly a powerful and amazing one.
The fact is, you are fully capable of taking the initiative
and figuring out the strategic direction for your work and
your life. Though you never have to go it alone, you must
have your very own clear and unambiguous sense of direction
to which you're fully committed.
This is your life to live and your chance to create
outstanding, meaningful and delightful value. Figure out
what will move your own world forward, and find real joy and
fulfillment in making it happen.

Jacob's Ladder
And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.
And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night...
and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a
ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and
behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. --Genesis
28:10-12 KJV
When I was a girl in Sunday school, we used to sing a
popular chorus, "We are climbing Jacob's ladder... soldiers of the
cross." The song harkened to a story in the Bible about Jacob. He fell
asleep and had a wonderfully mysterious dream - Jacob saw a ladder
stretching from heaven to earth with angels ascending and descending
on it. The ladder bridged the yawning gulf between man and God. When
he woke up, Jacob realized it was a divine visitation. It's
interesting that Jacob's ladder is never mentioned again in the Old
Testament. That is, until Jesus arrives on the scene...
Right after he was baptized, Jesus begins proclaiming his
true identity and divine mission. He announced in John 1:51, "... I
tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man." Jesus was pointing to
himself as Jacob's ladder! He had come to close the distance, to
bridge the gaping chasm between God and man. Just as angels were
ascending and descending on the ladder in Jacob's dream, so they were
ascending and descending on the Son of Man, glorifying the One who
stretched the gulf between heaven and earth!
We live in a "spiritual" age with many people searching
for meaning. As a believer in Jesus, you have the Gospel... you know
the Way... you know the Truth: Jesus Christ is man's only "ladder" to
heaven. Look for opportunities today to help non-believers find the
first rung on that Ladder. Show them that Jesus has provided a way -
the only way - to heaven.
Jesus, thank you for being my Bridge to God, my Stairway
to the Father, my highway to heaven!
Blessings,

Today's Promise from the Bible
Psalm 31:21-22
Blessed [be] the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness
in a strong city. For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before
thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications
when I cried unto thee.
Reflection
The Lord hears the cry of His children and He faithfully wraps His
loving arms around them. He makes His excellent goodness known to them
each day without fail. Who could comprehend such devotion and love?
His wonderful lovingkindness continually strengthens those who
believe—so rejoice in that love and praise His name forever!

A Test of Faith for a Teen
Ephesians 6:1-3: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is
right. "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment
with a promise--"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy
long life on the earth."
Dishonoring parents is a value that is accepted and even prized among
the teenage culture of today. But is directly contrary to God's
command. As with any circumstance in which our culture conflicts with
God's Word, we have a true test of faith. Will you follow the crowd,
or will you obey God?

The Chapter after the Last
Matthew says, "And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a
clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb." Mark says, "And
he [Joseph] bought fine linen, and took him [Jesus] down, and wrapped
him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a
rock." Luke writes, "And the women also, which came with him from
Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body
was laid." John says, ". . . There was a garden; and in the garden a
new sepulchre, . . . There laid they Jesus." They all agree: Jesus was
dead. The life about which they had been writing was gone, The
biography was ended. Then for the only time in this history of human
thought, a biographer adds to his book a new section which is
authentic biography and begins to write a chapter to follow the last
chapter. This time the story did not end with a funeral. The Subject,
whose story should have ended at death, was once again back among men
to challenge new writers to try to find enough paper and enough ink to
write the rest of the story of the life that can never end. Whatever
is written of Him now is written of a living man. He was dead, but He
is alive forevermore.
Verse
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order
that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4
Thought
What if Christ had not risen? That demonstration of His
post-resurrection power would be absent. Those promises of His
unfulfilled--the coming of the Holy Spirit, the presence of Christ
with us, His intercession for us, His coming again.
Prayer
Forgive me, Lord, for failure to live in the experience of Your
resurrection power. You declare that I died with You and may know new
life just as You were raised from the dead.

A11 difficulties and dangers must give way before the omnipotence of
faith. By faith the walls of Jericho fell after they had been
encompassed seven days, and still the mightiest citadels of the
adversary must give way before the steadfast and victorious march of
faith.
By faith Daniel shut the mouths of lions and was delivered, we are
expressly told, because he believed in his God. It was not his
uprightness of life or courageous fidelity that saved him, but his
confidence in Jehovah. Such faith has held back the stroke of death
and threatened disaster from many of God's children in the daily
experiences of their providential lives. There is no difficulty too
small for its exercise, and there is no crisis too terrible for its
triumph.
Shall we go forth with this shield and buckler and prove all the
possibilities of faith? Then indeed shall we possess a charmed life
even through the very hosts of hell and know that we are immortal
until our work is done.

Psalm 146:9
The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and
widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
Teri had never been on her own before. She had married fresh out of
high school, and her husband had taken care of her for twenty years.
When he died, she was suddenly faced with making it on her own for the
first time in her life. The whole idea frightened her. More than
anything else, she was afraid of being alone. She thought she could
make it, if only she had someone to turn to for help and consolation.
God is our consolation and help. When we are alone against the world,
we most need His strength. He offers us all the help we need, if we
will but ask. He loves to help His children, and He will not turn us
away.
Prayer: Lord, grant me rest in Your loving arms. I can handle
anything, just as long as I know that You are with me. Preserve me in
times of weakness and frustration. Amen.

By My Spirit
" 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord
Almighty." Zechariah 4:6
Have you considered God's irony in using us for His purpose? He
chooses the weak and the poor to show forth His strength and power.
We gain victory through no effort of our own. It is not through our
strength or our power. Victory can only be ours through the Spirit of
God and its work in our lives. For it is God's power and God's
strength that works through our worthless bodies to bring victory, so
that all the glory and honor would rise to the Lord God Almighty. It
is humbling to think that God has chosen us to fulfill His purpose. He
wishes to be seen in us. He desires to do mighty works through us. I
am glad that God has smiled on me and chooses to use irony to show
forth His glory. There is no question that what He has made me today
is not what anyone would have expected had they viewed me as a child.
God is doing the work through His wisdom, and through His might and
power. I have done nothing but submit myself to Him. Victory will
continue
to be mine as God works through me!
Father, thank You for providing me with Your Holy Spirit. I know that
of myself I could do nothing for You. I am so grateful for Your
strength and power that works through this feeble body. As I continue
to grow and gain victory, may all the glory rise to You, for You are
doing the work, not me. Amen.

Courteous ConductBe wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the
most of every opportunity. Colossians 4:5
Those who don't believe in Jesus—note what we do. They make decisions
about Christ by watching us.
When we are kind, they assume Christ is kind. When we are gracious,
they assume Christ is gracious. But when we are dishonest, what
assumption will an observer make about our Master?
No wonder Paul says, "Be wise in the way you act with people who are
not believers, making the most of every opportunity. When you talk,
you should always be kind and pleasant so you will be able to answer
everyone in the way you should" (Col. 4:5–6).
Courteous conduct honors Christ.
It also honors his children. When you surrender a parking place to
someone, you honor him. When you return a borrowed book, you honor the
lender. When you make an effort to greet everyone in the room,
especially the ones others may have overlooked, you honor God's
children.
Let your courteous conduct honor Christ.

Luke 1:49
'For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.'
Carolyn felt good about herself. She was in her own apartment, working
full-time at a job she loved, and she was looking better than ever
before. God had been so good to her. She was afraid when she first set
out on her own, but she knew He was looking after her. With God on her
side, she felt she could accomplish anything. God had set her feet on
a good road, and she was going to try her hardest to stick to it. She
wanted everyone to know what God had done for her, and she planned to
do nothing that would allow anyone to doubt. The power of God shone
brightly through her life, and she was glad.
Today's thought: I want my diet to be a sign of God's grace!

Stuck On the Welcome Mat - #6504
Thursday, December 15, 2011
We have a wide variety of people that come to our front door. The
salesmen; oh they're basically asked to stay on the front steps and
give us their little pitch. And then there are those neighborhood kids
who are, well, they are raising money. Well, they usually get inside
the door; we'll let them in to the welcome mat, and we'll deal with
them there. Now we have a lot of acquaintances and friends who we will
just immediately invite into our living room to sit down and stay as
long as they want. And sometimes at the door is a relative or real
close friend, and they come in and they go straight to the
refrigerator and help themselves. They go to the telephone without
asking, they call whoever they need to call, they use the bathroom. So
you can tell how close we are by how far a person is allowed into our
house.
I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about
"Stuck On the Welcome Mat."
Well, our word for today from the Word of God: Colossians 2:6. God
says, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord..." Now,
let's stop for a minute. You remember how that was when you received
Him. Jesus described it once as "knocking on the door." You go to the
door, you open it and you let Him in. Well, that's how you received
Him. You invited Him in; He came in by invitation.
"So then as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in
Him." In other words, the way to follow Christ, to be a Christian from
the moment of conversion on, is to do what you did to get started with
Jesus. And that is you keep on inviting. Not inviting Him in; He's in
to stay. But you invite Him into more and more of the rooms of your
life house so to speak. Continue to live in Him just the way you
invited Him in.
Now, you keep on inviting. You say, "Well, right now my life house is
a mess." Well, I have to tell you, I've been asked many times, "Ron,
you know, I became a Christian. I invited Christ in. How come I still
feel so lonely?" Or, "Why do I still feel so depressed?" Or, "I still
feel so defeated by some of my old problems." One reason might be
this: You might have invited Jesus in, but maybe you left Him on the
welcome mat. Oh, He's in, but you're not inviting Him into any more
rooms.
It's like a lot of people who have a spiritual wedding. They begin
with Christ. They had a wonderful conversion and a testimony of how
Christ saved them, but they haven't had much of a marriage since then.
They just got Him in and thought that was it. It's more than a
wedding. Well, Christ will only improve that which is consciously
turned over to Him, and He only goes where He's invited.
Now, if you let Christ into let's say ten percent of your life, then
90 percent will still be as much of a mess as if you hadn't invited
Him in. You may be missing much of the love, the peace, maybe the
meaning that you came to Christ to get, because you've never asked Him
past the welcome mat. Remember, He only goes where He's invited.
What specific part of your life did you invite Jesus Christ to rule
today? See, that's always the question, or it should be, on any given
day, "Into what specific part of you did you invite Jesus today?" It's
only into that percentage of your life where you actively invited Him
that you'll begin to know His peace, know His love, and know His
answers.
So, keep on inviting Jesus deeper and deeper into what matters to you.
You can tell how close you are to Him by how far you allow Him into
your house.

December 15, 2011 *[image: Daily Devotional] * *A disciplined tongue**
**LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. -
Psalm 141:3, HCSB
*Proverbs 10:19 states, "The one who controls his lips is wise." I'm glad
God included in the Psalms and Proverbs the words that are before us today
about controlling our speech. It's important to talk, but talking too much
is as bad as not talking at all. Proverbs extols rationing our words.
Once, when Thomas Edison the inventor was at a reception, the toastmaster
stood up and complimented him on his many inventions, especially the
talking machine. After the toastmaster sat down, the aged inventor rose to
his feet and said, "Thank you for those remarks, but I must correct one
thing. It was God who invented the talking machine. I only invented the
first one that can be shut off."
A doctor told me that once, while writing out a prescription, he asked a
woman to put out her tongue. When he had finished, she said to him, "But
doctor, you never even looked at my tongue."The doctor replied, "It wasn't
necessary, I just wanted you to keep quiet while I wrote the prescription."
Amidst the humor of today's notes, don't miss the point - words are
important, but don't overdo them. I like the advice of an anonymous poet
who wrote:
If your lips would keep from slips
Five things observe with care:
Of whom you speak, to whom you speak,
And how and when and where.
A wise person has a disciplined tongue. Many need to learn this, for, like
the tongue in old shoes, our tongue is often the last thing to be worn out.
If a disciplined tongue is your need, ask God to help you, for an
undisciplined tongue is an unloving tongue.
*Daily Prayer*
Father, I realize that oftentimes my tongue is the most difficult thing to
bring under control. Yet I have the promise of Your help even in this. I
give you my tongue to be bridled - take over the reins. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

I have a friend named John. John is the owner and *Weinmeister* at a
prominent winery in California's Alexander Valley. At the Blessing of the
Harvest a few weeks ago, we called to mind the Bible's prophecy about God's
future new creation. Isaiah 61:1-8 says, "bring good tidings to the
afflicted...for I the Lord love justice." And Joel 3:18 prophecies that "in
that day the mountains shall drip sweet wine."
So, I turned to John to say, "no matter how good your family reserve
cabernet sauvignon tastes now, heaven's wine will be still better."
"That's okay with me," said John.
That's okay with me too.
*God of surpassing grace and love, lift our eyes to the mountains that drip
with eternal blessings. Inspire us to draw today from tomorrow's justice
and sweetness. Amen. *

*Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11* (NRSV)
1 The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the
broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the
prisoners;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our
God; to comfort all who mourn;
3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion—to give them a garland instead of
ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise
instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the
planting of the Lord, to display his glory.
4 They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former
devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many
generations.
8 For I the Lord love justice, I hate robbery and wrongdoing; I will
faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting
covenant with them.
9 Their descendants shall be known among the nations, and their offspring
among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge that they are a
people whom the Lord has blessed.
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my whole being shall exult in my
God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered
me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a
garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is
sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and
praise to spring up before all the nations.

*Abigail*
*There was a man...Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. And she was a
woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance; but the man was harsh
and evil in his doings. 1 Samuel 25:2-3 (NKJV) *
*As the Book of 1 Samuel tracks David's ongoing ordeal with Saul, it breaks
to tell us about an interesting couple named Nabal and Abigail. The
contrast between these two couldn't be greater. Nabal is described as evil
and wicked, while Abigail is defined as beautiful and good. *
*To make a long story short, David and his men cross paths with this
couple, and he pursues peace with them. But Nabal foolishly refuses to
reciprocate and even insults David. Not a wise move! Infuriated, David sets
out to kill Nabal. *
*And he would have, except for the fact that Abigail overheard what
happened and made a beeline for David before he could kill her husband. She
interceded on Nabal's behalf, and David wound up sparing his life (1 Samuel
25:23-35). Even though Abigail's husband was a miserable man, her
intercessory heart sprung into action, and God blessed it. *
*In our self-centered society, the ministry of intercession is becoming an
increasingly lost art. If we're honest, we find that our prayers tend to
circulate around ourselves-our needs and our wants. There's a healthy time
and place for that, but how often do we expend our energy interceding for
other people? *
*If we see a consistent truth in the Gospels, it's that the Lord responds
to intercession. Time and again, we see Him responding to needs that were
brought to His attention by others. And as hard as it may be for us to
hear, perhaps we would see more of our prayers answered if they were more
about others. *
*Where there's a spirit of intercession, there's also an outpouring of
God's favor. May we take this truth with us to our prayer closets as we
take Abigail's example to heart. *
*Think About It? What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does
this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I
need to make? What is my prayer for today?
*

*Labor of Love*
*1 Corinthians 15:58, NIV: "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let
nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,
because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."*
*There I stood--confused and weary--ready to give up. I had made sacrifices
so I could be available. I had given of my time, talents and efforts. But
something was wrong. I felt as though my efforts meant nothing to them. I
was there for them and they didn't seem to care. I realized I was a new
face to so many of them, but when I reached out, and they withdrew, it
hurt. "Was this Christian love?" I sunk back into the furthest corner of
the room and considered leaving all together. And there in the quiet
corner, the Lord spoke. He reminded me why I was there--I was there to
serve. He assured me that if I would joyfully serve them that my reward
would come from Him. My eyes focused back on God, and back on others. My
spirits lifted, and I served my Lord with gladness. Ministering to others
can at times be very hard labor. It can seem difficult and unrewarding.
Yet, God assures us that to give ourselves fully to His work is a labor of
love that will never be in vain.*

FAITH'S VISION OF THE LIVING GOD
"I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the
armies of Israel, whom you have defied." 1 Samuel 17:45Many believers
today believe God has done great things in the past. They acclaim the
mighty acts of God in behalf of the great patriarchs of the Old
Testament and the miracles worked through his disciples in the New
Testament. They are moved by the stalwart martyrs who would not
renounce their faith and were burned at the stake. They acclaim those
who blazed the trail through the jungles of Africa, those who have
endured resistance and persecution in China, the inroads made by
committed missionaries that dared to overcome every obstacle in their
way to establish the gospel in foreign lands and to native tribes.
They also believe that at some future time God will come in mighty
power, call His own to Himself and cast Satan and his fallen angels
into the bottomless pit.
How many give devoted allegiance and exercise faith in the living God
for the present? God is the "same yesterday, today, and forever." He
wants us to trust HIM in every phase of our life TODAY!
When David came among the soldiers of the army of Israel and
recognized their fear before the defiance of Goliath and his
blasphemous remarks to the God of Israel, he was grieved by the apathy
and unbelief of his people. David had learned to trust God in the
solitude of the hills of Bethlehem as he shepherded his sheep. God was
an ever-present living reality to him. He had proved the might and
power of God as he slew the lion and the bear as they attacked his
sheep. Was this the skill and ability of David that accomplished this?
Absolutely not. This was the power of God manifested through this
teenage shepherd who dared to believe and trust God in all of his
encounters. David had a vision of the living God! Facing this giant of
a man and an experienced warrior was no less a challenge to his faith.
To Saul and all the soldiers God was the God of the past and possibly
of the future, but certainly not the God to be trusted for the "battle
of today"!
We see this same fear, apathy, and unbelief among believers today.
They believe in all He HAS done and some day will do, but they have no
faith to trust Him for every phase of their life today. What a sad
commentary of believers who seem to fill their lives with everything
but the reality of a faith that dares to believe that God wants to
invade our lives with the might of HIS presence and power TODAY.
Michelangelo, the famous Italian artist, painted the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel, had a candle placed in his cap as he painted. One day
someone asked him why he had this additional source of light in his
cap. His answer was simple but profound. He said, "I do not want the
shadow of self cast upon this glorious scene." Sadly, it's the shadow
of our self-centered lives that casts its influence of unbelief on
what should be an unreserved faith in the living God for today. How
much we miss by not entering into the abundant triumphant life God has
for us today.
What was the outcome of David's child-like faith in Almighty God? As
A. W. Tozer wrote the following concerning faith, "Faith hears the
inaudible, sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives
the impossible." This characterized David's encounter with Goliath and
God gave him the glorious victory. So it can be with you and me today.
There is nothing God cannot do in and through us when the shadow of
self gets out of the way and our unbelief is changed into faith's
vision of the living God of today. Don't let Satan's illusion deceive
you. Dare to trust HIM in the whole of your life and He will prove
Himself the Almighty God--faithful and true.
