Heal Past Hurts
"You were born with the capacity to believe."

You were born with a capacity for great courage, for trust in
your surroundings and for faith in yourself. But something may have
happened along the way that changed this positive capacity.

If you were criticized at an early age and denied encouragement
by those you trusted you could learn to believe that something was
wrong with you. Over time, such beliefs may appear as the absolute
truth - a definition of your identity.

Guess what? It's simply not true! You are perfect and it's time
to act that way. As hard as it may be to regain your self-esteem, you
can forget and forgive what happened when you were young. You can
regain the courage, trust and faith that are your birthright, by
recognizing that, although youthful disillusionment can't be changed,
it can be overcome.

Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.

May you find serenity and tranquility in a world
You may not always understand.

May the pain you have known and conflict you have experienced
Give you the strength to walk through life
Facing each new situation with courage and optimism.

Always know that there are those whose love and understanding
Will always be there, even when you feel most alone.

May you discover enough goodness in others
To believe in a world of peace.

May a kind word, a reassuring touch, a warm smile be yours
Every day of your life,
And may you give these gifts as well as receive them.

Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.

Teach love to those who know hate,
And let that love embrace you as you go into the world.

May the teaching of those you admire become part of you,
So that you may call upon them.
Remember, those whose lives you have touched
And who have touched yours are always a part of you,
Even if the encounters were less than you would have wished.
It is the content of the encounter that is more important than it's
form.

May you not become too concerned with material matters,
But instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.

Find time in each day to see the beauty and love in the
world around
you.

Realize that each person has limitless abilities,
But each of us is different in our own way.
What you may feel you lack in one regard
May be more than compensated for in another.
What you feel you lack in the present
May become one of your strengths in the future.

May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility.
Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.

May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by
yourself,
And not be dependent on another's judgment of your accomplishments.

May you always feel loved.

Let yourself enjoy
+++++++++++++++++++

Let yourself be. Let yourself enjoy.

Let yourself see and participate, know and feel, listen and
understand. Let yourself live the brilliant richness that
shines through even the smallest details of this very time
and place.

Let go of the worries, the fears, the grievances,
insecurities and inhibitions. Simply and lovingly live the
beauty of this day.

Without judgment as to whether it is difficult or easy,
popular or unpopular, do what you know is right, and what
you feel is right for you. Let yourself be curious, in awe,
inspired and in love with the ineffable reality of
existence.

Live authentically as the unique person you really, truly
are. Allow the fulfillment that naturally comes when you let
all you do come from the best of who you are.

Let yourself be joyful, and generous with your joy, just
because you can, and just because it feels so good. Right
now, let yourself live in the best, most positive way you
can imagine.

Grace Has Been Given
"But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it."
Ephesians 4:7

Grace is free: it is a gift that once we have received, it binds us to
the giver forever. There is no question that we are forever indebted
to Christ. He so freely gave his life for us, suffering and dying that
we might have life eternal. This is a gift we do not deserve; one we
can never repay, but there is no question that it will change us
forever as we feel its power take hold of us. Grace ties us to the
giver in a way that duty and obligation never can. It produces in us
the desire to be like the giver. It causes us to live lives of grace,
for once we have tasted of God's grace, we can no longer live
graceless lives. God's grace is bountiful; it is never ending, and it
reaches to the farthest corners of our souls and fills us with love
and gratitude. We must let it flow through us to others. A young
Christian may not fully understand the implications of grace.
Ephesians tells us that grace comes to us in portions; not that Christ
is withholding
it from us, but as we grow and are able to appreciate it more, Christ
reveals grace to us in greater measure. Let his grace fill every
corner of our being and flow out to a hurting world as we live the
life that Christ would have us live; a life of grace.
Oh, God of grace! How we praise You for Your gift of Jesus, Your gift
of grace! We can never repay You, but we can live lives of grace. Your
grace abounds toward us and it overwhelms us. Let it flow through us
to others. Let it change us from selfish human beings, to selfless
followers of Christ, that Your name might be praised! Amen

Settling the ScoreDo not try to punish others
when they wrong you, but wait for God
to punish them with his anger.
Romans 12:19

In the western movies the bounty hunter always travels alone. It's not
hard to see why. Who wants to hang out with a guy who settles scores
for a living? Who wants to risk getting on his bad side?

More than once I've heard a person spew his anger. He thought I was
listening, when really I was thinking, I hope I never get on his list.

Cantankerous sorts, these bounty hunters. Best leave them alone. Hang
out with the angry and you might catch a stray bullet.

If you're out to settle the score, you'll never rest. How can you?

Romans 12:19 reminds us, "Do not try to punish others when they wrong
you, but wait for God to punish them with his anger."

As justified as you are in your quest for vengeance, you may never get
justice. And if you do, will it make a difference?

Devotional for Dieters, with Dan Dick

Devotional For Dieters 12/13

December 13

Revelation 2:7
'He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of
life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.'

Beth and David made a deal that they would diet through the week but
treat themselves to a night out each week at one of their favorite
restaurants. Restaurant night became the best night of the week. Both
Beth and David agreed that they had never enjoyed their food so much
as when they only splurged one time a week. They grew to appreciate
how good it really was. It helped to make even ordinary meals special
and delicious. God has offered us special things to eat. He has
created so much to make our lives interesting and varied. We must
enjoy these things discreetly and unselfishly. If we will enjoy them
within God's plan, then He will reward us with fruit from the tree of
life, which will be the finest food we could ever want.

Today's thought: God's foo d is eternal, and it isn't fattening!

Verse of the Day - December 13, 2011
Psalms 1:1-3 - Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of
the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of
mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he
meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of
water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not
wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Very Needy, Very Close - #6502
Tuesday, December 13, 2011

"We were closer when we were poorer." The lady who told me that was
speaking about her marriage, and she wasn't poor any more. You could
tell that by looking at her. She was very affluent. But she was
telling me that she and her husband were closer in the early days of
their relationship when they were pinching pennies, and scraping by,
and wondering how they were going to pay the rent, and fighting the
wolf at the door. But they were at least fighting the wolf together.
Now, since that conversation with that lady I've had many
opportunities to quote her at, oh, women's luncheons and dinners. And
I always see women's head nodding in agreement as if that's been the
case in their life too. Apparently there's something about not having
much that can make a relationship stronger.
I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about
"Very Needy, Very Close."
The Apostle Paul knew about poor making you close, in life's most
important relationship that is. He talked about it in our word for
today from the Word of God. It's in 2 Corinthians 12:9. He says,
quoting the Lord, "But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you,
for My power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore (Paul says) I
will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's
power will rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake I delight in
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in
difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
I've had the wonderful privilege of meeting believers from a lot of
other countries: Haiti, Africa, India, a lot of places like that. And
I've noticed something about them. It's something, honestly, that I
covet. They seem to live in the supernatural more than I do, and more
than most Christians I know in this country. They seem to pray
powerfully and they expect and honestly they often get miracles.
They're radically Christian. And I feel like a pale office worker who
hasn't been out in the sun all year, standing next to someone who just
got back from Florida with a deep spiritual tan. I want what they
have. And one believer summed up their secret. He said, "Ron, we live
in a poor village. We have no regular support. We don't have
organizations or manuals or tools. We only have God." I can't get
those words out of my heart, "We only have God."
See, they're rich in God because they're poor in earth. They're very
needy and they're very close to God. Now, our Christianity is active,
and sophisticated, and well managed, well planned, well financed, and
often pretty powerless. The early church had little machinery and much
power. We seem to have much machinery and, yeah, little power.
I guess there are three roads that we rich Christians can take. One,
we can continue with our mediocrity, doing the biggest things that man
can do. Two, we can learn God's power through a time when He strips us
of all the earth things that we are depending on. Or three, we could
use all God has given us, but put no trust in it.
You know, couples can have a lot but hold it loosely and still love
each other as if they were living on pork and beans. A Christian can
live in America and have it all but ask God to teach them childlike
dependency. All that we have blinds us to our total need - our
desperate need - of God and His power. We're as needy as the Christian
from India, barely surviving in his village. We just don't recognize
it. We just don't admit it. We just don't acknowledge it. We just
don't live like it.
When you recognize how poor you are, you're really rich. Whether we
live in a condo or a hut; whether we eat filet or rice, we only have
God.

Verse of the Day - December 12, 2011
Romans 8:31-34 - What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God
is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son,
but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him,
graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those
whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns?
Christ Jesus, who died - more than that, who was raised to life - is
at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Magnify Him!

"For the Mighty One has done great things for me - holy is His name.
His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to
generation" (Luke 1:49-50).
Scripture Focus: Luke 1: 46-55

Unmarried and pregnant, Mary would be scorned by many a townsperson
skeptical of her story. Extreme consequences were due, according to
Jewish law. But her hymn, the Magnificat, sings joy and confidence in
God. Nearly every line comes from the ancient Scriptures. While
magnifying her Lord from the very depths of her soul, she drew the
glory away from herself and onto the God of her fathers who was
setting in motion His promised redemption plan. Mary's words began in
present tense, but moved to past tense as she spoke of how God already
had lifted the lowly and turned sorrow to joy. Why would she proclaim
this while cruel Herod still terrorized God's people?

Mary knew God would see His plan to the end. She spoke with such
certainty that it was as if it were already so. Anchored in His
constancy, she knew the God Whose words came for centuries through the
prophets, but Whose Word now was His Son, and - wonder of wonders! -
her Son. Jesus is God's last and best Word. Know Him; magnify Him.

Insight: Anchor yourself in the unchanging God whose great "Christmas
gift" - salvation through Jesus - will change your heart more and more
each day.

December 13, 2011 * * *Responding to God**
**Scripture
**For prior to his transformation he was approved, having pleased God. Now
without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to
Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him. Hebrews
11:6, HCSB*

*Thought*
If you or your church are not responding to God and attempting things that
only He can accomplish, then you are not exercising faith. If people in
your community are not responding to the gospel like you see in the New
Testament, one possible reason is that they are not seeing God in what you
are doing as a church.

*Prayer*
Doer of the impossible, forgive my lack of faith. Help me quit relying on
my resources and start having the faith to find what You are doing and rely
on Your plans and Your resources. Amen.

*I Corinthians 15:19-23<http://www2.luthersem.edu/godpause/daily_view_iframe.asp?#verses>
*
The philosopher Aristotle told us to begin writing an essay with a
prolepsis. A prolepsis is a paragraph or two in the introduction that
summarizes what is to come. It provides an advance summary of what we are
going to say.

When we take out a mortgage, we make a down payment and promise to pay the
remaining principal over 20 or 30 years. We say we own the house; but
technically, we will not fully own the house for another couple decades.
Could we think of the down payment as a prolepsis?

When God raised Jesus from the dead on the first Easter, Jesus rose into
everlasting life, the very everlasting life that God has promised for the
new creation. Jesus is "the first fruits of those who have died," says St.
Paul (1 Corinthians 15:20). What happened to Jesus will happen to us too.
Does this make Jesus God's prolepsis?

*God of our salvation, we thank you for the first resurrection, the
resurrection of Jesus. Fill us with joy as we look forward to our joining
Jesus in the everlasting new creation. Amen. *

Ted Peters
Professor of Systematic Theology, Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary

*I Corinthians 15:19-23 *(NRSV)

19 If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most
to be pitied.

20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of
those who have died.

21 For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead
has also come through a human being;

22 for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ.

23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming
those who belong to Christ.

*Aaron*

*The people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us
gods that shall go before us..." Exodus 32:1 (NKJV) *

*The children of Israel had escaped their enslavement in Egypt, and Moses
proceeded to lead them through the wilderness towards the land God had
promised them. But along the way, God called Moses to meet with Him atop
Mount Sinai. *

*He left his brother Aaron in charge, and after several days, the people
began to get restless. They started to question whether Moses was coming
back, and they started pressuring Aaron to come up with a new god to guide
them. *

*At one time or another, we've all experienced something like this. We're
in a position where people want us to do something, something we know deep
down isn't right. But the pressure mounts, the demands increase, and we
reach a place of just wanting to make them happy. We become people pleasers
at the expense of pleasing God. *

*That's exactly what Aaron did. The Bible tells us that he caved into the
demands for a new god. He gathered all their gold jewelry and created a
calf similar to the idols that were worshipped back in Egypt (Exodus
32:2-5). *

*In the end, God forgave Aaron and Israel for doing this, but it came at a
cost. So much so that when we hear Aaron's name mentioned, it's usually
connected to this unfortunate episode. *

*It's always a mistake to please people at the expense of pleasing God. If
there's a situation or scenario that requires us to do one or the other, no
matter how difficult it may seem at the time, pleasing God is always the
right choice. Otherwise, we'll wind up paying a price in the end, even as
Aaron did. *

*When you sense people pressuring you to please them, stop and seek the
Lord. Ask Him what He wants, and then do it with a clear conscience. *

*Think About It? What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does
this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I
need to make? What is my prayer for today?

*Shining Like Stars*

*Philippians 2:14-15, NIV: "Do everything without complaining or arguing,
so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in
a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the
universe."*

*Imagine if you will, Jesus complaining about the food He had to eat, or
clothes He had to wear. Imagine Him arguing with a disciple because he sat
in His seat in the boat. Imagine His face, His eyes, His voice. Would you
see His love through the selfishness, or His grace through the complaints?
It's hard to imagine Jesus like that--probably because he wasn't like that.
Jesus was the continual representation of the Father. What was seen in His
face and eyes, and heard in His voice bore witness of the Person of God. In
Philippians 2:14-15, Paul encourages us not to complain and argue. As
others look into our faces, our eyes, and hear our words, if what they see
is selfish humanity, it turns them away. But if they get a glimpse of
Jesus, then they find something outside the norm--something that shines
like stars.*

REASON #50 TO USE TRACTS
Tracts can directly address certain false beliefs, cults, and
religions, comparing those teachings to God's truth from the
Scriptures.

LMI has a selection of tractsthat persuasively speak to those who
believe their good works play a part in their acceptance by God.

December 13, 2011
CHRIST THE ONLY FOUNDATION
"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus
Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11With every structure the foundation is of
utmost importance. The superstructure will rise or fall on the
strength of the foundation. With very high buildings it is necessary
to extend the foundation deep with pilings of steel and concrete to
sustain the weight and give sturdiness to its height. It must hold the
structure strong and sure when the storms and winds blow with
intensity.

In the Body of Christ, the Church, it is likewise imperative to have
the right foundation and to build upon what has already been laid as
its foundation, Jesus Christ.

Many today have various foundations upon which they build their hope.
Some think themselves quite acceptable to God because they have never
engaged in any gross sin that would evoke God's judgment. Some compare
their lives with others and conclude they certainly warrant God's
favor for they, like the Pharisee, are thankful that they are not as
other men. Still others rest their laurels on the good works they have
done in being responsible in their duties to their fellow men. Others
recognize the atonement of Christ but feel they need to contribute
their good works, thinking something needs to be added to make their
acceptance with God complete.

Paul saw these trends of man in the church at Corinth and exerted all
his influence to counteract it. In his letter to the church at Ephesus
he makes it very clear that "by grace are you saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works lest any
man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Paul said, "He saved us, not
because of righteous things we have done, but because of His mercy"
(Titus 3:5). "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but to save the world through him" (John 3:17). "Salvation is
to be found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven
given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

You might say, "Why is there no other way to be saved?" If there were
another way, mankind would have some basis to glory. Even more
important, if there were any other way, there would be no reason for
Jesus to have suffered and died as the atonement for our sins. The
only ground of our acceptance is in and through Jesus Christ. He is
the only provision God has made whereby we can be forgiven of our sin
and be reconciled to Him.

Jesus Christ is the sure foundation of our hope. Our pardon from sin
must be obtained through Him; our peace will be given to us by Him.
Our strength and righteousness are on account of Him and eternal life
is bestowed on us as a gift from Him. Our salvation is wholly by the
grace of God.

Well might we ask ourselves, "Is Jesus Christ MY sure foundation upon
which I rest my hope of acceptance with God?"

It is upon this divine foundation we are to build our works. "For we
are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which
God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). We must be
careful to remember that if anything is to be done for His glory and
for eternity...HE must do it through us. Otherwise our efforts will be
but hay, wood, and stubble. If our works are done through the leading
and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives they will be as gold or
silver or as precious stones when we are judged by God for our works.

He is our security and the sure foundation for our salvation. He is
the firm foundation upon which we work and serve.

God's Thoughts: Part 1

Read Psalm 139:17,18
A. W. Tozer used to say, "The only real world is the Bible world."
Nothing is more unsure than the world, for it is passing away. But the
will and Word of God will abide forever (see Mark 13:31). As we
consider the character of God's thoughts, we will want to do His will.
God's thoughts are personal (v. 17). They concern you and me. He makes
the individual and then plans for him. He knows all about us.
Paradoxically, the sovereignty of God is the basis for our freedom. If
He were not on the throne, this world would be run by chance. But the
psalmist tells us that life is not a gamble. God put your substance
together and ordained your genetic structure (vv. 13,14). We must use
what He has given us for His glory. And our obedience to His will
reaches beyond this life, for our future is wrapped up in God's plan
for us (Jer. 29:11).
God's thoughts are precious (v. 17). Precious means "weighty,
valuable." His thoughts toward us are unique, tailor-made, and that
makes them valuable. When we accept God's plan for us and exercise
believing faith, then He can work out His perfect will in our lives.
Remember, His thoughts are deep (Ps. 92:5); they are higher than ours
(Isa. 55:8).

* * *
God's thoughts about you are more than mere "thoughts." They include
His purposes and His care. As you meditate on His thoughts, renew your
commitment to know and do His will for your life.

Repent, Part 2

Hosea 9-11, Revelation 3
Key Verse: Revelation 3:19
About the time we start to think that repentance is only an Old
Testament idea, along come verses like this one from the New
Testament: "'Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest,
and repent'" (v. 19). There is an interesting blend of two contrasting
actions-love and rebuke.
We may not understand how love and rebuke go together, but they do. It
is vital to our understanding of God and the development of our
spiritual life to understand that they are both a part of our
relationship with Him.
God loves us. That is a comforting thought. We do not typically draw
as much comfort from the thought that God rebukes us-until we realize
that His rebuke is an act of love. He cares for us enough to correct
us, and His desire is to help us change.
Several times in these letters to the churches, the message of Jesus
includes a call to repentance. It is a message that we must not miss
nor misunderstand. Do not misunderstand it as being anything but an
expression of God's love for us. And do not miss the need for change,
removing from your life those things that God says are wrong. We are
saved from the penalty and power of sin. God desires that we turn from
those sins and determine to do that which is right in His sight.
Repent truly is a word for us today.
Do you need to change something in your life? Repent is still a word for today!

"Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My
statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in
them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your
father David. And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will
not forsake My people Israel."
The Comforter
In 1858 Scottish missionary John G. Paton and his wife sailed for the
New Hebrides. Three months after arriving on the island of Tanna, his
wife died in childbirth. One week later his infant son also died.
Paton was plunged into sorrow. Surrounded by savage people, he wrote,
"Let those who have ever passed through any similar darkness as of
midnight feel for me. As for all others, it would be more than vain to
try to paint my sorrows. But for Jesus, and [His] fellowship--I
[would] have gone mad and died."
God knew that Israel would need this kind of comfort too. After the
reign of Solomon, the nation would divide between north and south.
Over the next several hundred years various armies would occupy the
land and bring havoc upon the people. God's solution? He promised, "I
will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My
people Israel" (1 Kings 6:13). God's presence, as represented by His
temple, would be their ultimate comfort.
Believers today don't have a temple made of wood and stone; they have
something even better. They have the presence of God in the person of
the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. Jesus promised, "And I will pray the
Father, and He will give you another Helper" (John 14:16). When we
received Christ as our Savior, our bodies became the home of the One
who is called Comforter (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:7, KJV).
If you lack this kind of comfort and courage, first make sure that you
have received Jesus Christ as your Savior. If you are saved, then see
if there is any sin hindering the Holy Spirit's work in you. In the
midst of difficulties and disasters, He is there to encourage you to
go on despite your circumstances.
He who dwells in us also goes with us.

How to Mind Your Mind
2 Corinthians 10:1-6
We must depend on the Spirit's power to control our thoughts. Here is
what the Scriptures have to say on that point: "The weapons of our
warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God [the indwelling Holy
Spirit].... bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of
Christ" (2 Cor. 10:4,5).
Only the Spirit of God can make this possible in our lives, and He
does it only when we are under His complete control.
When an evil thought comes to our mind, what are we to do? We should
turn it over to the Spirit and ask Him to take charge. I have
personally done this for years. It is the only method that works for
me.
I cannot help it when a thought comes, whether it is good or bad. I do
not, however, have to dwell on that thought. So the moment a wrong
thought comes, I ask the Holy Spirit to take over, for that is His
responsibility.
When I give Him control, He gives me victory. I have experienced this
thousands of times.
Thoughts that come to our mind can also be the Holy Spirit's reminder
to pray. In I Thessalonians 5:17 we are told to pray without ceasing.
Can we possibly do that? Only by letting the Holy Spirit control us.
As He dwells in us and we continue to give Him control so that no sin
hinders His working in our hearts, He reminds us of the things He
wants us to pray about.
"And be renewed in the spirit of your mind" (Eph. 4:23).

Christmas: The Defeat of Darkness

Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot
tolerate wrong... --Habakkuk 1:13

God permits all sorts of awful things to happen... things
he doesn't approve of. God allows others to do what he would never do.
At the same time, he hates evil. Please don't think that God sits back
and nods appreciatively at the peddling of drugs to ninth graders.
He's not the one who fired the ovens of Auschwitz and other Nazi death
camps. He does not smile when doctors slip up leaving children with
crippling defects, or high school linebackers crush the neck of the
opposing team's quarterback. He hates these things.

God is truly grieved over evil. He is grieved at how we've
ruined the world and abused each other. This grief is partly why he
gave the Ten Commandments: don't murder, he says - I hate unjust
killing. Don't commit adultery - I despise seeing families ripped
apart. Don't steal - society will crumble if you do. God cannot
tolerate wrong...

This is why he sent Jesus to be born into our dark world.
From the day of his birth, the forces of darkness began plotting
against the Babe in the manger. Why? Because the adversary and his
wicked hoards knew that this was the Child who would ultimately crush
Satan and bring an end to wickedness in this world. God is so grieved
over evil, that he sent his only Son to die in order that
righteousness and peace, truth and love would prevail... in order that
we might escape the clutches of hell and be welcomed into heaven. God
permits what he hates to accomplish that which he loves.

Celebrate the defeat of darkness by singing this verse
today from the Christmas carol, "Joy to the World": No more let sin or
sorrow reign, nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His
blessings known far as the curse is found!

God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay,
remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day: to save us all
from Satan's power when we were gone astray, O tidings of comfort and
joy!

Blessings,

Today's Promise from the Bible

Psalm 1:3

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that
bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not
wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Reflection

My Prayer: Lord, may I be firmly planted in Your word and truth! May I
always find delight in Your face as I meditate on Your great
lovingkindness! Yet I am so undeserving, You have allowed me to serve
You. Truly, I stand in awe at your faithfulness and Your goodness!

Ephesians 5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

This is a good way to avoid conflict. Whenever possible, submit to
all as a way of showing our love and honor of Christ.

Boldly Christ's

To become a member of the body of Christ and join with the bride of
Christ, you must be born into the family of Christ. It happens by
believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord and confessing your faith
with your mouth to the people. This is reasonable, and I do not
understand why anybody should find fault with it. Suppose you were
somewhere in the world, and someone asked you your nationality. Is
there anybody here that would be ashamed to say where you were from?
Why then should you go through life being secret Christians, too
frightened, too scared to say, "I am a Christian"? If Jesus Christ has
honored you by finding you and laying His hand on you, you ought never
be ashamed of Him. You should be able to stand anywhere at any time
and say, "I do not care who knows it. I am a Christian." Be proud. I
want the world to know that I am a Christian. From reading the lives
of the saints I know I have a long way to go, and I want you to know
that, too! I have a sharp tongue and an abrupt manner, and sometimes I
say things that hurt feelings. I do not want to hurt your feelings.
Just forgive a fellow who is too dumb to know better. I may not be a
good Christian, but I am still a Christian. I am a member of the body
of Christ. I am in the ark along with the blessed few who have been
honored by God with grace, and for that reason I am not ashamed and I
do not want you to be. We want a separated-from-the-world, heads-up,
knees-bent, living church! Sure we can have our skating parties,
gatherings and coffees. Nothing is wrong with that, provided we know
that we do not need it. These activities are something on the side so
we can relax. Jesus Christ is our center, and so the way to get in is
by faith and confession.

Verse
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And
they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God
boldly. Acts 4:31

Thought
Why is it we try to be Christians incognito in certain situations? He
is our Lord and He is not ashamed to call us His own.

Prayer
Father, I am shy and timid by nature but will You give me boldness.
May I be Peter after Pentecost not Peter in the high priest's
courtyard!
