This Day's Thought
Nothing is more beautiful than our Lord's forethought! He was always
thinking ahead of the disciples. When He sent them to prepare the
Passover there was found an upper room furnished and prepared. His
plans were not only for that day. He was always in advance of time!
When the disciples came back from fishing, Jesus was on the seashore
with a fire of coals and fish laid thereon. In the morning he thinks
of the day, before you are astir! After the resurrection, the
disciples were bewildered and the way looked black. But the angel
said, "Behold, He goeth before you into Galilee." He is always
thinking ahead, preparing ahead! "Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid. I go to prepare a place for you."

This Day's Verse
For the Lord will not cast off for ever, but, though he cause grief,
he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast
love; for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the sons of men.
Lamentations 3:31-33

The Essential Message of Christmas
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall
call His name 'Immanuel,' which is translated, 'God with us.' " —Matthew
1:23
At this time of the year, we say, "Merry Christmas." I prefer that to
"Happy Holidays," but I don't get confrontational about it. Instead, I want
to be gracious. After all, Christmas isn't always a happy time for
everyone. For someone who has lost their job, this is not the most
wonderful time of the year, because so much emphasis is placed on a merry
Christmas being a materialistic one.
There are also those who have lost loved ones. I am one of those people,
and things that once made me happy at this time of year now make me sad.
Those things that once brought happiness are now things that bring sadness,
because they evoke memories of times we spent together. Therefore,
Christmas becomes a difficult time for some.
There are many who are in need of encouragement at this time of year. They
don't need a Christmas present; they need His Christmas presence. They need
to be reminded of what this season is all about. It is not about things. It
is not about presents.
These things have their place, but we need to remember the essential
message of Christmas, which is Immanuel—God is with us. And for the hurting
person, the lonely person, the sorrowing person, this is the time of year
to bring the gift of encouragement to them and say, "The message of
Christmas is: God will be with you. God will help you. God will strengthen
you."
So look for opportunities to share the love of God during this season,
because it is a time when we seem to be more open to engaging in
conversation with others. Now is a great opportunity for you to bring
encouragement to someone who is struggling. Who needs your encouragement
today?
Summary sentence: Who needs to receive a "gift of encouragement" from you
today?

WHAT ABOUT ME, AND THE FUTURE?
by C. R. Stam
Is it not amazing that men who can produce intricate electronic mechanisms,
build giant sky-scrapers, fly men to the moon and back -- is it not amazing
that such men often do not even know what will finally become of
themselves! And what is more amazing still is that most of them do not even
try seriously to find out.
They are intelligent enough to plan carefully for the future where temporal
affairs are concerned, but foolish enough to neglect their eternal welfare.
They make plans for themselves in case they become ill and need additional
funds for surgery, medicine and hospital care. They even make plans for
their loved ones in case of death and bereavement, but fail to ask
themselves: "What will become of me after death?"
Daily "the wise of this world" witness the truth of Hebrews 9:27, that "it
is appointed unto men once to die", and most of them know that the Bible
adds: "after this the judgment". They may hope that this is but a false
alarm, but they do not know. They can only wonder and worry. Hebrews 2:15
declares that "through fear of death" they are "all their lifetime subject
to bondage". Like Adam, they run and hide from God instead of running to
Him and asking: "What must I do to be saved?" Too cowardly to face up to
their own grave, no hope beyond the tomb -- too afraid, generally, to even
discuss death.
The believer in the Word of God is not left thus in the dark. He glories in
the truth of the passages from which we have quoted in part above. We quote
them now in full:
Hebrews 2:14,15: "Forasmuch then as the children [of Adam] are partakers of
flesh and blood, He [Christ] also Himself likewise took part of the same;
that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that
is, the devil;
"And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject
to bondage."
Hebrews 9:27,28: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after
this the judgment.
"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that
look for Him shall He appear the second time without [lit., "apart from"]
sin unto salvation."
"Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil - it has no point."

"God's Word to You"!
God's Word to You today is found in Galatians 4:4-5
4But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of
woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so
that we might receive adoption as sons.
Cross references:
Galatians 4:4 : 1 Tim 2:6; Mark 1:15
Galatians 4:4 : Phil 2:7; John 1:14
Galatians 4:4 : 1 Tim 2:15; Gen 3:15
Galatians 4:4 : Luke 2:21, 22, 27
Galatians 4:5 : Galatians 3:13
Galatians 4:5 : Galatians 3:26; Rom 8:15
Do you ever feel challenged? Do you ever feel like you have reached your
limits? Do you ever feel like you can't go on? Was that where you were
when you met Christ?
I was. I often share how we can't be good enough or perform enough rituals
or do enough good deeds or works to make it to Heaven. I've shown in
scripture over and over again that salvation isn't an accomplishment of
anything we can do.
I've tried to make sure you understand it is all about the sacrifice of
Christ and His grace and mercy that saves us. But the truth is there is one
thing we have to do to be saved, one particular thing that we must do
before we can ever accept His free gift of eternity with Him.
We have to know we are lost. If we never reach that point then we never
realize that we need Him. If we live as I did as an atheist we will end up
making gods of ourselves. We live as if we have the control over our
destinies. How many times do you hear if you work hard enough you can
accomplish anything? And if we live our lives that way with that thought
process then we walk a road to doom. We walk a road to self sufficiency.
We walk a road without any need for God.
Today reflect if you will on your life. How much of it do you feel like
you have to and need to control? How much of it do you really think you
have real control over? How much of the accomplishments you have made in
life do you credit to yourself alone?
How much do you really know you need a Savior?
Better yet, how much are you thankful you have Him?
me n' God love ya

Repetition
Blessed is the man... his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law
he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2
Recommended Reading
Joshua 1:7-9
At the Six Flags Over Georgia theme park outside Atlanta, the biggest
roller coaster is Goliath: height on the first drop is 200 feet (like
stepping off a 20-story building); top speed is 70 miles per hour; length
is 4,480 feet spread out over 8.5 acres. For those standing in line to ride
Goliath for the first time, fear is the predominant emotion. But for the
diehards awaiting their hundredth ride, fear has been replaced by fun.
The difference? Repetition. Doing fearful acts over and over--learning that
you will, in fact, survive--is the secret to living in peace. And that's
true even in the spiritual life. If the only time you pray or read your
Bible is when a life-threatening crisis arises, you're not likely to have a
lot of peace in spite of God's promises. But if you are learning to trust
God daily by committing everything to Him in prayer--crises big or
small--seeing God's faithfulness repeatedly over time leads to a worry-free
life: "God has carried me through countless situations before this. I know
He is with me."
Whatever happens today, commit it to God in prayer and walk in peace. Then
repeat daily for the rest of your life.

Conviction for the Believer
Romans 1:24-25, Psalm 23
Recently I spoke to a heartbroken woman. Her father was dying, and he was
cold toward his family and God. He desired no contact and refused to
discuss any spiritual matter.
But God is able to reach anyone—even someone hostile to the faith. Consider
the apostle Paul's conversion! Yet Scripture also teaches that the Lord
eventually gives people over to the hardness of their own hearts. There may
come a point when He no longer draws them by revealing their need for a
Savior.
The situation is different for believers, though. When we, in our
humanness, continue to sin, the Holy Spirit convicts us so we'll get back
on track. At that point, we can humbly repent and follow Him or ignore His
voice and continue to sin. If we persist in error, our Father will keep
calling us back. But the danger is that our hearts may become desensitized
and eventually we may cease hearing His warning.
Thankfully, we are children of God, and He loves us too much to let us
remain in a sinful pattern. Though chastisement and conviction are never
pleasant, He knows our travelling down the wrong road results in much
greater heartache. The Lord is a shepherd, using His staff and rod to
lovingly bring us to green pastures.
On the Christian journey, there will be temptations to stray, falsely
promising to satisfy longings. Stay closely connected to Jesus through
prayer and Scripture. Be listening so you can obey immediately when He
calls you to change course. In the long run, living God's way brings the
greatest joy.

WHAT TO PRAY FOR
Men ought always to pray, and not to faint
Luke 18:1
You cannot intercede if you do not believe in the reality of the
Redemption; you will turn intercession into futile sympathy with
human beings which will only increase their submissive content to
being out of touch with God. In intercession you bring the person, or
the circumstance that impinges on you before God until you are moved
by His attitude towards that person or circumstance. Intercession
means filling up "that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ,"
and that is why there are so few intercessors. Intercession is put on
the line of - "Put yourself in his place." Never! Try to put yourself
in God's place.
As a worker, be careful to keep pace with the communications of
reality from God or you will be crushed. If you know too much, more
than God has engineered for you to know, you cannot pray, the
condition of the people is so crushing that you cannot get through to
reality.
Our work lies in coming into definite contact with God about
everything, and we shirk it by becoming active workers. We do the
things that can be tabulated but we will not intercede. Intercession
is the one thing that has no snares, because it keeps our
relationship with God completely open.
The thing to watch in intercession is that no soul is patched up, a
soul must get through into contact with the life of God. Think of the
number of souls God has brought about our path and we have dropped
them! When we pray on the ground of Redemption, God creates something
He can create in no other way than through intercessory prayer.

Most of us have dreamed of remodeling our home… that perfect place to
entertain.
Well Becky found out it was much easier to dream than to do! She purchased
a rundown farmhouse with the idea of renovating it into her dream home.
But she learned some valuable lessons:
First, count on spending a small fortune.
Then, make sure you figure out how to heat the living room… before inviting
your Bible study group over.
And… hire a professional to fix the plumbing.
But the most important lesson is that sometimes renovation is an inside
job… your home and your life.
The Bible says, "Let God transform you into a new person by changing the

They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the
meaning so that the people could understand what was being read. Then
Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were
instructing the people said to them all, "This day is sacred to the LORD
your God. Do not mourn or weep." For all the people had been weeping as
they listened to the words of the Law.
Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to
those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not
grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food
and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that
had been made known to them.
Nehemiah 8:8-10, 12 NIV

*Loving Sinners*
By John Fischer
It's hard to love sinners when you are trying so hard not to be one.
I'd be willing to go to the grave known as nothing more than the guy who
came up with that sentence. So here it is again…
It's hard to love sinners when you are trying so hard not to be one.
This statement captures so well the struggle between good and evil in us
all. But it is also the struggle between the Old Covenant (the law) and the
New (grace). The Old Covenant is all about not sinning. "Thou shalt not..."
And if any one of us could actually pull off the Old Covenant, then we
would have the right to say anything we want against sinners. We would have
the right to only respect those who earn it. We could even despise those
who don't, because our righteousness would vindicate us every time, and
condemn them. But alas, the law has condemned us all, so that no one can
pass judgment, and no one can earn anything.
The law was given, not so that we could follow it, but so that we would
break it, and find out who we really are. We are those who can lock arms
and sing along with Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash and anybody else who
might want to join in: "Lord help me, Jesus, I've wasted it so; help me,
Jesus, I know what I am." The Old Covenant-the law-teaches you that. It
teaches you what you are really made of. And those who spend their life
refusing to believe that, and trying to follow it instead, are going to
have a hard time loving sinners. And they will have a hard time loving
themselves as well.
And all those Christians who supposedly got saved by the New Covenant and
then go back to living like the Old one were possible (if, indeed, you can
do that), well, they're going to have a hard time showing respect to
anyone, because… well… it's hard to love sinners when you are trying so
hard not to be one.
"But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by
faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe."
(Galatians 3:22 NASB)

*Daily Devotional
* Betty Miller shares her daily devotionals which are based
on the book of Proverbs in the Bible.* * * The Wisdom of God*
*Verses for the Day:
Proverbs 19:23(KJV):
23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide
satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Proverbs 19:23(AMP):
23 The reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has
it shall rest satisfied; he cannot be visited with (actual) evil.*
*Thoughts for the Day:*
This verse tell us when one honors and respects God he can live in a place
of provision above other men; a place that we find we are equipped with
power over evil. We need to look at two definitions here to understand what
this verse is saying: (1.) What is the "fear of the Lord?" and (2.) What
does it mean that we shall not be "visited with evil."
The "fear of the Lord" is not a tormenting fear, but rather a respect and
honor for God and His Word. If I respect someone, I honor their word.
Therefore, the Bible is telling us that when we reverence and respect God
and keep His word it will lead us to life and we can rest satisfied. Here
are some more scriptures that further define "the fear of the Lord."
*Psalm 111:10: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good
understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth
for ever.*
*Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools
despise wisdom and instruction.*
*Psalm 34:11-17:
11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the
LORD.
12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see
good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto
their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the
remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all
their troubles.
Proverbs 10:27: The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the
wicked shall be shortened.*
What does it mean we shall not be visited with evil? It does not mean that
the devil will not attack us, but rather it means that no matter what kind
of attack we have from the devil, God will give us the way to conquer him
and overcome him. Therefore evil will not actually hurt us. When we become
a child of God and we are "born again," we now have access to all that God
has. Because Jesus overcame the devil through His death on the cross, no
weapon formed against us shall prosper.* *Jesus came to destroy the works
of the devil.
*1 John 3:8: He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth
from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he
might destroy the works of the devil.*
*Job 5:19-22:
19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil
touch thee.
20 In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of
the sword.
21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be
afraid of destruction when it cometh.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid
of the beasts of the earth.*
*Psalm 91:3-7:
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the
noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou
trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that
flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction
that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand;
but it shall not come nigh thee.*
I could list many more verses that promise us protection and deliverance
from the devil; however,* *these will suffice for this teaching. We can
also look at the lives of many of the Bible saints and see how these very
scriptures protected them in their time of trial. Daniel is one of those
examples who was protected from beasts. The Israelites in *Exodus* were
protected from pestilence, while the Egyptians were suffering under this
curse.
*Daniel 6:27: He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders
in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the
lions.*
*Exodus 8:22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my
people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou
mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.*
The Lord is no respecter of people. Therefore, if we honor and respect Him
and His Word, He will do the same things for us today, that He did
throughout the Bible. He is just looking for a people who will believe Him.
* *God and His power have not changed. He is the same yesterday, and today
and forever. He will do miracles for us today if we but dare to believe Him.
*Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.*
*Prayer for the Day:*
*Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You today for Your greatness!! Create in
me a heart that will always believe You and trust in Your Word. I do want
to always have the "fear of the Lord" in my heart. I then will not have to
fear any man or what any man would do unto me, as You are greater than all
men. Thank You for Your many promises of provision and protection
throughout Your Word. I claim them for my life and for those in my
family. Deliver me from any doubt and unbelief that would keep me from
receiving all that You have promised me in the Bible. I ask this in the
name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.*

Morning
The LORD, [is] in the midst of thee.
Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I
will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with
the right hand of my righteousness. --Strengthen ye the weak hands, and
confirm the feeble knees. Say to them [that are] of a fearful heart, Be
strong, fear not: behold, your God will come [with] vengeance, [even] God
[with] a recompence; he will come and save you.--The LORD thy God in the
midst of thee [is] mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with
joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.--Wait on
the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I
say, on the LORD.
I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God
[is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God. And God shall wipe
away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former
things are passed away.

Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that
they go forward.
Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people,
and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do [that which is] good in
his sight.--We made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them
day and night.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.--If
any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of
God.--Then shall we know, [if] we follow on to know the LORD.
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.--Watch ye, stand fast in
the faith, quit you like men, be strong.--Not slothful in business; fervent
in spirit; serving the Lord.
Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them
[that are] of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not.

Morning
"His ways are everlasting."-Habakkuk 3:6
What He hath done at one time, He will do yet again. Man's ways are
variable, but God's ways are everlasting. There are many reasons for this
most comforting truth: among them are the following-the Lord's ways are the
result of wise deliberation; He ordereth all things according to the
counsel of His own will. Human action is frequently the hasty result of
passion, or fear, and is followed by regret and alteration; but nothing can
take the Almighty by surprise, or happen otherwise than He has foreseen.
His ways are the outgrowth of an immutable character, and in them the fixed
and settled attributes of God are clearly to be seen. Unless the Eternal
One Himself can undergo change, His ways, which are Himself in action, must
remain for ever the same. Is He eternally just, gracious, faithful, wise,
tender?-then His ways must ever be distinguished for the same excellences.
Beings act according to their nature: when those natures change, their
conduct varies also; but since God c!
annot know the shadow of a turning, His ways will abide everlastingly the
same. Moreover there is no reason from without which could reverse the
divine ways, since they are the embodiment of irresistible might. The earth
is said, by the prophet, to be cleft with rivers, mountains tremble, the
deep lifts up its hands, and sun and moon stand still, when Jehovah marches
forth for the salvation of His people. Who can stay His hand, or say unto
Him, What doest Thou? But it is not might alone which gives stability;
God's ways are the manifestation of the eternal principles of right, and
therefore can never pass away. Wrong breeds decay and involves ruin, but
the true and the good have about them a vitality which ages cannot diminish.
This morning let us go to our heavenly Father with confidence, remembering
that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever, and in Him
the Lord is ever gracious to His people.

Evening
"They have dealt treacherously against the Lord."-Hosea 5:7
Believer, here is a sorrowful truth! Thou art the beloved of the Lord,
redeemed by blood, called by grace, preserved in Christ Jesus, accepted in
the Beloved, on thy way to heaven, and yet, "thou hast dealt treacherously"
with God, thy best friend; treacherously with Jesus, whose thou art;
treacherously with the Holy Spirit, by whom thou hast been quickened unto
life eternal! How treacherous you have been in the matter of vows and
promises. Do you remember the love of your espousals, that happy time-the
springtide of your spiritual life? Oh, how closely did you cling to your
Master then! saying, "He shall never charge me with indifference; my feet
shall never grow slow in the way of His service; I will not suffer my heart
to wander after other loves; in Him is every store of sweetness ineffable.
I give all up for my Lord Jesus' sake." Has it been so? Alas! if conscience
speak, it will say, "He who promised so well has performed most ill. Prayer
has oftentimes been slurred-it!
has been short, but not sweet; brief, but not fervent. Communion with
Christ has been forgotten. Instead of a heavenly mind, there have been
carnal cares, worldly vanities and thoughts of evil. Instead of service,
there has been disobedience; instead of fervency, lukewarmness; instead of
patience, petulance; instead of faith, confidence in an arm of flesh; and
as a soldier of the cross there has been cowardice, disobedience, and
desertion, to a very shameful degree." "Thou hast dealt treacherously."
Treachery to Jesus! what words shall be used in denouncing it? Words little
avail: let our penitent thoughts execrate the sin which is so surely in us.
Treacherous to Thy wounds, O Jesus! Forgive us, and let us not sin again!
How shameful to be treacherous to Him who never forgets us, but who this
day stands with our names engraven on His breastplate before the eternal
throne.

Effective Service
1 Corinthians 15:1--11
"... I worked harder than all of them -- yet not I, but the grace of
God that was with me." (v. 10)
We considered yesterday the story of Fletcher of Madeley who said to a
government official: "I want nothing ... except more grace." One
wonders what account the official gave when he returned to the Lord
Chancellor. "Nothing we can offer seems to attract him. The only thing
he wants is more grace!" Dr. W. E. Sangster, in The Pure in Heart,
said that all who know God deeply have a high view of grace. They have
learned to look at all the values of earth in the light of heaven.
They have seen how absurd it is to put their trust in riches, the
meaninglessness of angling for applause, credits and titles, and they
have come to the conclusion that the only really valuable thing in
life is grace.
Few will argue with the fact that the apostle Paul was one of the
greatest Christians who has ever lived, and so it is interesting to
note from today's passage that he labored for God not in his own
strength but in the strength God gave him. The grace of God is
essential not only to live a holy life but to live a helpful one also.
The best way to serve others is to reach out to them in the strength
that God gives to us. This is the point the great apostle is making.
"I worked harder ... yet not I, but the grace of God that was with
me." The work of Christ must be done by Christ Himself for no one else
can do it. He who lives in us must labor through us.
Prayer:
O God, how foolish I am to try to labor for You in my own strength. In
spurning the grace You provide I do myself and others a disservice.
And more -- grieve Your heart. Forgive me dear Father and make me a
more reliant person. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

The Power of Prayer for Others
December 13, 2011
To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy
of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work
of faith by his power.
2 Thessalonians 1:11
Not long ago, I woke up early for some reason with a strange, urgent
need to pray for a member of our church. Now, I hadn't thought about
this person in several months, but I had been meeting with him and
helping him through some problems in his life before he abruptly
stopped making his regular appointment.
So I went ahead and got up and spent some time in prayer for him. The
very next Sunday, just a few days after I prayed, I walked into church
and he was the first person I saw. Imagine that… I didn't see him for
months, God lays him on my heart to pray for, and he's the first
person I see the very next Sunday!
So we sat and talked for awhile, and I had a great time just
encouraging him and praying for him. He told me what God was doing in
his life, and I let him know God was still laying him on my heart. It
was wonderful!
This experience reminded me of the powerful impact prayer for another
person can have. When you pray for others, God is supernaturally
allowing you to bless them and make a difference in their lives no
matter where they are. So do this: make a list of your top five people
you want to pray for, spend time praying for them over the next few
weeks, and watch God do something great!
GOD ANSWERS PRAYER WHEN YOU PRAY FOR OTHERS. SO MAKE A LIST OF OTHER
PEOPLE TO PRAY FOR AND WATCH GOD WORK IN THEIR LIVES!
As the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without deeds is dead.

Faith's Check Book, Daily Entry
C. H. Spurgeon
December 13
Evening Brightens into Day
It shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. (Zechariah 14:7)
It is a surprise that it should be so; for all things threaten that at
evening I time it shall be dark. God is wont to work in a way so much
above our fears and beyond our hopes that we are greatly amazed and
are led to praise His sovereign grace. No, it shall not be with us as
our hearts are prophesying: the dark will not deepen into midnight,
but it will on a sudden brighten into day. Never let us despair. In
the worst times let us trust in the Lord who turneth the darkness of
the shadow of death into the morning. When the tale of bricks is
doubled Moses appears, and when tribulation abounds it is nearest its
end.
This promise should assist our patience. The light may not fully come
till our hopes are quite spent by waiting all day to no purpose. To
the wicked the sun goes down while it is yet day: to the righteous the
sun rises when it is almost night. May we not with patience wait for
that heavenly light, which may be long in coming but is sure to prove
itself well worth waiting for?
Come, my soul, take up thy parable and sing unto Him who will bless
thee in life and in death, in a manner surpassing all that nature has
ever seen when at its best.
As the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without deeds is dead.

BLESSINGS FROM THE HEART
Pastor Cecil A. Thompson
December 13, 2011
IT'S A MIRACLE!
John 9:24
A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. "Give glory to
God by telling the truth," they said. "We know this man is a sinner."
He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I
do know. I was blind but now I see!"
I just read a fascinating article from the International Business
Times. The article concerns paralympic silver medalist Monique Vander
Vorst. She has been paralyzed from the hip down since she was 13.
Recently her wheelchair was stuck by a bicycle as she was training.
Instead of it being a tragedy, it has turned out to be a blessing.
After the accident, Monique began to notice feeling in her legs. Soon
she was able to walk after a period of 14 years. Think about it! The
medical community has been in a quandary about the situation. They
doubt that such an accident could restore the use of her legs. But now
she can walk!
As we read today's Scripture we come in on the tail end of one of the
miracles that Jesus performed. He had restored the eyesight of a man
that was born blind. The religious leaders were enraged because the
man had been healed on the Sabbath. (What better day for healing to
occur?) They questioned the man's parents and confirmed that the man
was indeed born blind.
Instead of rejoicing that a great miracle had taken place, they
interrogated that man and called Jesus a terrible sinner for healing
on the Sabbath. They hurled insults at him and threw him out of the
Temple. Some people in that day, as in our day, refuse to acknowledge
the power to open sin-blinded eyes and change lives.
Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely
and be a blessing!

Psalm 145:18
The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call
upon him in truth.
Florence had fallen twice, and she was deathly afraid of falling
again. The last time she had laid in her apartment for hours before
anyone discovered her. The problem was solved when her daughter
brought her a beeper that was directly patched into the local
hospital. Should Florence fall again, all she had to do was push the
button on the beeper, and the ambulance would come immediately. The
fear of being left without help was resolved, and Florence could get
on with a normal life again.
We need a lifeline like Florence's. For all spiritual needs, we have
one in the person of Jesus Christ. Christ is always as close as a
prayer. In our times of need, we can call out to Him and He will be
there with us immediately. Christ gives us the assurance we need to
live full lives, for we need have no fear of life when He is present
with us.
Prayer: In times of joy, in times of sorrow, in times of need, I thank
You, Lord, for being there when I call upon You. Amen.

Home by next Christmas
Our beloved soldiers one and all
Has answered America's call,
Over oceans to foreign lands
Old Glory waves so freedom stands.
As holiday bells toll in the season
Let us pause to recall the reason
We are free to celebrate Christmas
And the birth of Lord Jesus.
Pray for those that fought and died,
For the suffering families that cried,
Pray for the soldiers far from home
Who this Christmas will be alone.
Jesus in Heaven hear our prayer
As we honor soldiers everywhere,
Shield our bold warriors over there,
Hold them in your merciful care.
In hospitals and every known place
Father we pray for special grace,
Heal our sick, wounded and lame
With worship we ask in thy name.
Shepherd the lonely brave far away
Lead your flock from harms way,
Give comfort to their worried mind
From your gentle heart forever kind.
They are champions brave and proud
And so we kneel with heads bowed,
Lord, bless our hero's over the earth
As we joyfully observe your birth.
Keep them in your guarding light,
Lead a way through periled nights,
Lend them thy strength Lord Jesus
As we near this coming Christmas.
Merciful Father in Heaven above
Embrace the soldiers we ever love,
Please bring them home safely to us,
Home by next Christmas.

~JESUS BRINGS JOY~
Like the beauty of the dew on a rose
as it looks toward the morning sun,
Jesus brings joy to our hearts,
He's the Holy and Anointed One.
Each petal of a fragrant rose
is like a promise God has given,
The Lord brings joy to our lives,
He's our hope and reason for living.
Our hearts can safely trust in Him
the one who saved us from our sins,
Grace and forgiveness is found in our Savior
He's our Lord and Dearest Friend.
Yes, Jesus brings joy to our lives
with each new passing day,
It's such a blessing just to know
He's always with us, along life's narrow way.
Blessings In Christ,

Read | 1 John 1:1-4
Jesus calls us to be His "witnesses." When some Christians hear
this word, they worry that they need exceptional skill or charisma in
order to share the good news with others. Yet to witness is not to
merely speak of the "plan of salvation" to someone. The word literally
means to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception; to
testify; bear witness to; give or afford evidence of. When John wrote
that he was sharing what he had experienced first-hand, he was saying,
"I am full of joy because of the experience of knowing Jesus, and I
want to invite you to share in that joy!"
When you're in love with someone, you are excited about the
relationship and time spent together. Likewise, when you're in love
with Jesus, you can't keep to yourself the joy that comes from knowing
Him—it just spills over, bearing witness and strengthening other
believers. In fact, as you give testimony of who God is and how He's
working in your life, it makes no difference whether you speak quietly
or with great exuberance: in their spirit, Christians will pick up on
the deep, genuine gladness in your heart that goes beyond natural
happiness. And people who don't yet know the Lord will find themselves
hungering for the relationship you have. In that way, they will be
drawn to His Spirit in you.
Witnessing is not a matter of eloquence or talent. It's an
overflow of the personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is
conforming you to His image. As you allow the Holy Spirit to
increasingly express His life and power through you, contagious joy
will be "fruit" of His indwelling presence.

A man may go to heaven......
without health, without wealth;
without fame, without a great name;
without learning, without earnings;
without culture, without beauty;
without friends and without ten thousand other things-----
But he can NEVER go to Heaven without Christ.

Transform Your Mental Outlook
by Jane Powell
'Count your blessings."
Perhaps one of the simplest ways to change your mood or mental
outlook is to remind yourself of all the good things in your life.
Reflecting on how far you have come, what you have already
accomplished, and what you have learned, can be very encouraging.
Appreciating your dearest friends, your closest family members,
your favorite possessions and of course yourself can bring a smile to
your face.
If you need a lift or an attitude adjustment, try to appreciate
and reflect on the good things. Count your blessings. It can be done
anytime and any place.
Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.
May you find serenity and tranquility in a world
You may not always understand.
May the pain you have known and conflict you have experienced
Give you the strength to walk through life
Facing each new situation with courage and optimism.
Always know that there are those whose love and understanding
Will always be there, even when you feel most alone.
May you discover enough goodness in others
To believe in a world of peace.
May a kind word, a reassuring touch, a warm smile be yours
Every day of your life,
And may you give these gifts as well as receive them.
Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.
Teach love to those who know hate,
And let that love embrace you as you go into the world.
May the teaching of those you admire become part of you,
So that you may call upon them.
Remember, those whose lives you have touched
And who have touched yours are always a part of you,
Even if the encounters were less than you would have wished.
It is the content of the encounter that is more important than it's
form.
May you not become too concerned with material matters,
But instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.
Find time in each day to see the beauty and love in the world around
you.
Realize that each person has limitless abilities,
But each of us is different in our own way.
What you may feel you lack in one regard
May be more than compensated for in another.
What you feel you lack in the present
May become one of your strengths in the future.
May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility.
Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.
May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by
yourself,
And not be dependent on another's judgment of your accomplishments.
May you always feel loved.
Times of great consequence
Is there something that has you troubled, concerned or
discouraged? That very same situation can just as realistically cause
you to be hopeful and encouraged and positively successful.
The future has not happened yet, and the way it will unfold is
completely open. Where there is the possibility for defeat and failure
there is also the possibility for success and improvement.
Where much is at risk of being lost, there is much that can be
gained. Times of great consequence are times of great opportunity.
Just imagine what would happen if you could turn your
perspective around. Just imagine it, and know that's precisely what
you can do.
You can make the decision to create the most positive outcome.
You can make the commitment to focus the energy of the situation in a
creative and productive direction.
Instead of turning your eyes away from the difficulty, open your
eyes to the powerful opportunity. Choose to envision your own best
outcome, then choose to do whatever is necessary to make it happen.

Coffee Break
"Don't You Waver"
"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for
he is faithful that promised;)." Hebrews 10:23
If there is any wavering it is clear that it is on our part, not
God's. He is faithful- always has been, always will be. He hasn't
changed and He never will. He was faithful in the past and He will be
faithful in the future. He was faithful yesterday and He will still
be today. He remains faithful even when we aren't.
We are the ones who need to hold fast- be firm, not give up, not
change, not waver- in our profession of faith, in our trust in Him, in
our belief in His word. We are the ones who need to anchor our trust
in His word, pattern our lives after it, build our hopes upon it. And
we can, because He is faithful as promised.
How do we hold fast our profession of His faithfulness? How do we
keep from wavering when the storms and trials come? By being grounded
in His word. By hiding it in our hearts. By studying it. By
renewing our minds with it. By keeping it before our eyes and in the
hearing of our ears. This will build our faith and reinforce the
foundation of His faithfulness that we are standing upon.
Have a great day. God will always be faithful, there is no wavering in Him.
