The Young Girl: Mary

"And Mary said, 'My soul praises the Lord and my spirit rejoices in
God my Savior...From now on all generations will call me
blessed'" (Luke 1:46-48).
Scripture Focus: Isaiah 7:10-14

With the stage set, enter the character who has stolen hearts for
centuries: Mary. She was a real person in an actual historic time and
place...the one whom every generation - including ours - would call
"blessed" (vs. 48). But with the tendency of sincere believers to
either exalt her and see her as sinless, or to ignore her completely,
we have mostly allowed ourselves only a sentimental view of Mary,
diminishing the world-shattering impact of the incarnation.

Mary did not praise herself. Rather she magnified and rejoiced in
God. She pointed to Him. Though she's a main character in this great
drama, it is actually God we learn more of through her.

As we dwell on Mary and her part in the Christmas story, we'll see
that she was an instrument of God's providence, one through whom He
would carry out His redemption plan. A theme arises that has been
woven through Scripture since Genesis: in the most unlikely of places,
hope often comes. May hope rise for you this Christmas season!

Insight: Resisting the tendency to glory in the glitter of
Christmastime, let's sing instead with Mary, praising God for what He
has done.

Jesus Christ the Sin Bearer

Matthew 26:26-27

The cross is so common in our culture that most people don't think
twice when they see one on a church. But unfortunately, familiarity
with the symbol can actually get in the way of understanding what it
truly means. So let's stop to consider how Jesus became the bearer of
sin.

We begin with Scripture written long before Jesus was born. Genesis,
the first book of the Bible, explains how man chose to disobey God.
Because Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, their descendants are
all born under the curse of death, having inherited a sinful "flesh"
nature.

In Leviticus, God's laws for the Jewish nation included observance of
Yom Kippur, the day each year when the Israelites fasted, prayed, and
sacrificed an animal to atone for sin. In essence, the goat would bear
the wrongs done by the people and suffer the penalty that divine
justice required.

Centuries later, Isaiah prophesied that a Savior would atone for
transgression once and for all (Isa. 53:5, 8; Heb. 7:27). After
another 700 years, John the Baptist identified Jesus as the Lamb of
God who would take away the sin of the world (John 1:29). The Messiah
had come, though He was totally different from what the people expected
—so much so, in fact, that they rejected Him and requested His
crucifixion.

In all, God gave 613 laws through Moses. But none of us can perfectly
follow even the Ten Commandments. In fact, one reason He gave us these
rules is to show us our need for a Savior (Ps. 19:7; Gal. 3:24).
Meditate on those commands (Ex. 20:1-17), asking God to speak to your
heart.

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a
multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:8

I heard about a man who was always griping at his wife. He said to her
one day, "Honey, I want two eggs!" So she asked him nicely, "Well,
dear, how would you like them cooked?" And he said, "I want one
scrambled and one sunny side up."

So she scrambled one and cooked the other one sunny side up. But when
she put it in front of him, he snapped back, "You scrambled the wrong
egg!"

Now, there are some people who are just like that. They gripe and
demand this or that. And whether you're on the giving or receiving end
of that kind of attitude, today's verse is for you because you're
called to love one another even when it's hard!

If you and I are honest, there are people who get on our nerves. And
the funny thing is that if other people are honest, we probably get on
theirs! Why? Because we're different from one another.

But despite our differences, we're called to love each other because
it's in love that we're able to look past the annoyances and see
others as God sees them. So if you have someone in your life who
irritates you, show them love by looking past their quirks and see
them as God does!

EVERYONE HAS SOMEONE WHO IRRITATES THEM AT TIMES. BUT HONOR GOD BY
LOOKING PAST THE IRRITATIONS AND LOVE THEM AS HE DOES!

Divine Gifts

Oh, the things we do to give gifts to those we love.

But we don't mind, do we? We would do it all again. Fact is, we do it
all again. Every Christmas, every birthday, every so often we find
ourselves in foreign territory. Grownups are in toy stores. Dads are
in teen stores. Wives are in the hunting department, and husbands are
in the purse department.

And we'd do it all again. Having pressed the grapes of service, we
drink life's sweetest wine—the wine of giving. We are at our best when
we are giving. In fact, we are most like God when we are giving.

Have you ever wondered why God gives so much? We could exist on far
less. He could have left the world flat and gray; we wouldn't have
known the difference. But He didn't.

He splashed orange in the sunrise
and cast the sky in blue.
And if you love to see geese as they gather,
chances are you'll see that too.

Did He have to make the squirrel's tail furry?
Was He obliged to make the birds sing?
And the funny way that chickens scurry
or the majesty of thunder when it rings?

Why give a flower fragrance? Why give food its taste?
Could it be He loves to see that look upon your face?

If we give gifts to show our love, how much more would he? If we—
speckled with foibles and greed—love to give gifts, how much more does
God, pure and perfect God, enjoy giving gifts to us? Jesus asked, "If
you hardhearted, sinful men know how to give good gifts to your
children, won't your Father in heaven even more certainly give good
gifts to those who ask Him for them?" (Matt. 7:11 TLB).

God's gifts shed light on God's heart, God's good and generous heart.
Jesus' brother James tells us: "Every desirable and beneficial gift
comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from
the Father of Light" (James 1:17 MSG). Every gift reveals God's love …
but no gift reveals His love more than the gifts of the cross. They
came, not wrapped in paper, but in passion. Not placed around a tree,
but a cross. And not covered with ribbons, but sprinkled with blood.

In this week's edition: reports from Uzbekistan, Nepal, Pakistan and
Sri Lanka
***********************************

1. Illegal prosecutions and punishments in Uzbekistan
(Source: Forum 18 News Service)

Sergei Kozin has been fined 80 times the minimum monthly wage after a
police raid on a group of Baptists in Sergeli District near Tashkent,
Uzbekistan, in July. The case was brought forward even though it was
beyond the legal time limit to bring charges. Baptists stated that the
case was fabricated, with the alleged witness not producing the
required identity documents. The judge in the case had noted the lack
of evidence and legal documents produced by police.

In another case, after being summoned to a police station for
questioning on October 16, two schoolgirls stopped coming to a church.
The police threatened them that "they will be in police records and
thrown out of school."

The next month, five officials raided a home in Fergana without a
search warrant on November 19. When the wife of the occupant refused
the officials entry, they pushed her out of the way and confiscated
about 100 Christian books, DVDs and a computer.

Please pray for Christians in Uzbekistan who are continually targeted
by authorities. Pray the Lord will give believers wisdom when dealing
with those who oppose their Christian activities. Pray the Church will
continue to grow in spite of restrictions.

2. Bomb attack targets Christians in Nepal
(Source: Compass Direct News)

Two years after an explosion shook one of the biggest Catholic
churches in Nepal and killed three people, the underground group that
orchestrated the attack claimed responsibility for another bomb blast
in November (for more on the 2009 attack, go to
www.persecution.net/np-2009-06-03.htm).

A crude bomb went off on November 22 in front of a leading Christian
charitable organization's office in the capital city, sowing fresh
fear and insecurity among Christians. Thankfully, there were no
casualties. At the site, police found leaflets signed by someone
calling himself a senior member of the Nepal Defence Army, a militant
armed group that has terrorized Christians and Muslims, demanding that
they leave Nepal. The leaflets asserted that the majority population
in Nepal was Hindu and that therefore it should be a Hindu state. The
leaflets also accused the charitable organization of converting Hindus
to Christianity.

On the same day in the north-eastern district of Sindhupalchowk, local
residents of the predominantly Buddhist village of Danchhe assaulted
two brothers for leading worship services at their home, leaving one
unconscious.

Ask God to grant courage and boldness of faith to Christians in Nepal.
Pray that believers in Nepal will exemplify the love of God through
consistent love and prayer for those who persecute them (Matthew
5:43-48). Pray for lasting peace in Nepal.

Persecuted Church Prayer Wall at www.persecution.net/prayerwall.

3. Death threats for evangelist challenging injustice in Pakistan
(Source: Release International)

A Pakistani Christian has received death threats after condemning the
murder of a Christian government minister who was killed for opposing
the blasphemy laws.

Evangelist Arif Ferguson, 36, and his entire family have had to go
into hiding following death threats from militants. Arif was first
warned after sharing the Gospel among Muslims. More serious death
threats followed after he made a statement to a local newspaper
condemning the assassination in March of Minorities Minister Shahbaz
Bhatti, who had spoken up against the blasphemy law (for more, go to
www.persecution.net/pk-2011-03-03.htm). Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan
claimed responsibility for killing Shahbaz Bhatti, and the same group
is now threatening Arif.

Arif, a laboratory technician, fled to Karachi after being tipped off
that the militants were trying to track him down. But even there he
received death threats, forcing the family of nine to go into hiding
again. Arif and his sisters have lost their jobs as a result. Arif
shared, "I trust in Jesus. If I die, it will be for Christ."

Please pray for Arif and his family -- for their protection, support
and encouragement. Pray the Lord will provide for them. Pray their
faithful testimony will be an encouragement to other believers.

4. Hardliners make new push for anti-conversion laws in Sri Lanka
(Source: Release International)

Buddhist nationalists in Sri Lanka have caused concern among
Protestant Christians by renewing their calls for anti-conversion
laws. The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) party, which has been pushing for
legislation banning "forced conversion" since 2004, renewed its
campaign in a press statement this month. It called on the government
to re-introduce to Parliament the JHU'S Prohibition of Religious
Conversions Bill.

Sources inside Sri Lanka say Christians are also concerned about a
loosely worded circular from the Ministry of Religious Affairs issued
in September which stipulates that building or maintaining places of
worship must be sanctioned by prior approval of the Ministry.
According to sources, evangelical churches in particular are facing
increased pressure from the state, with "indiscriminate closure and
threats." Their applications to register formally are routinely
rejected, and there is evidence that planning permission is even being
denied for non-church buildings if the applicant is a Christian
individual or organization.

Pray that the JHU's bid to introduce anti-conversion laws in Sri Lanka
will fail. Pray that officials will end discriminatory policies which
limit the activities of some Christians. Ask God to bless and protect
evangelical Christians and pray for all those working for religious
freedom in Sri Lanka.

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and
thick darkness is over the peoples, but
the LORD rises upon you and His glory
appears over you
( Isaiah 60:1-2 *NIV )

Now think spiritually here, for the "light" is the magnificent glory
of our Heavenly Father! As His children we are reflectors of His
"light," so; come and let us walk In the light of the LORD.
( Isaiah 2:5 )

Remember that our Savior, Jesus Christ said; "You are the
light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot
be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under
a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to
all who are in the house. Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in heaven. ( Matthew 5:14-16 )

So it is my prayer that you are already walking in
God's Glorious Light! If not now would be a great time to start! Ask
God to fill you with it. For you will find that to be a truly
wonderful experience, and don't worry, though God's Great Light is
brilliant, it is guaranteed not to give you a sunburn!

Now may you have a bright shiny day that is filled with God's Love!
Amen.

All My Love & Prayers,
Pastor Allen

Gleanings from the Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #3710 - Pleasing Aroma
Just as a point of general interest for those of you who are interested,
you can follow the happenings at "the cowboy church" on Facebook. Check us
out and give us a "like".
You can also download and listen to the music and messages from each week
at the cowboy church website
Now let us move on to this morning's Gleanings.
There are a number of smells that I consider comfort smells. WD-40 the
lubricant is one of them. Fresh sawdust and fresh cut grass are two more. A
good pipe tobacco is yet another. I don't smoke, but I do love the smell of
a fine pipe mix.
Wood smoke is another; at least until it gets on you to the point where
it's all you can smell. Old Spice is great, although it smells terrible if
I happen to be wearing it.
I love the smell of frying onions. I sometimes tease Kathy that it's my
favorite perfume, especially when it's combined with the smell of whatever
soup the onions are going into.
The smell of freshly brewing coffee is great. The smell of burning or stale
coffee is far less appealing.
Clean saddle leather has an appeal all its own.
I don't mind the smell of a skunk as long as it's faint, but it quickly
becomes overpowering when it is sprayed heavily in the air.
Fresh baked bread and pies are two more very comforting smells. Many
realtors recommend you have a loaf of bread baking when people are touring
your home.
Since we're all different, you may not find those smells appealing. In fact
you might find some of them very unappealing and others more to your taste.
All of us have particular scents that generate negative as well as positive
reactions. Over the years I have encountered some things that are every bit
as gross as the smell they generate and I'll leave that to your imagination.
I wondered what smells God finds pleasing. Of course being Spirit, God has
no nose and no sense of smell, but the Scripture gives us several things
that please God using the anthropomorphism of His sense of smell.
Turning from evil to God is a pleasing fragrance to the Lord
Ezekiel 20:39b-44 NIV
... afterward you will surely listen to me and no longer profane my holy
name with your gifts and idols. For on my holy mountain, the high mountain
of Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD, there in the land the entire house
of Israel will serve me, and there I will accept them. There I will require
your offerings and your choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices.
I will accept you as fragrant incense when I bring you out from the nations
and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will
show myself holy among you in the sight of the nations. Then you will know
that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land I
had sworn with uplifted hand to give to your fathers. There you will
remember your conduct and all the actions by which you have defiled
yourselves, and you will loathe yourselves for all the evil you have done.
You will know that I am the LORD, when I deal with you for my name's sake
and not according to your evil ways and your corrupt practices, O house of
Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD.' "
Obedience and sacrifice are pleasing scents to God
Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of
love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant
offering and sacrifice to God.
Our prayers are like incense to the Lord
Revelation 5:6-8 NIV
Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center
of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He
had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out
into all the earth. He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him
who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures
and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp
and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers
of the saints.
Until next time may the life you lead be a fragrance pleasing to our Lord.
Be blessed
Kevin

Greg Laurie Daily Devotions

Let's Worship
"Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star
in the East and have come to worship Him." —Matthew 2:2
The very word "Christmas" has been emptied of its meaning, drug through the
gutter, and given back to us, minus its power. Some prefer to use the more
politically correct terminology at this time of year, like "Happy
Holidays," "Merry Xmas," or even "Happy Winter Solstice." But I actually
think those things are not as bad as the person who says, "Merry Christmas"
with no idea whatsoever of what Christmas really means.
I think we should cancel the version of Christmas that is filled with hype
and endless activity leading to exhaustion, the version that gives little
to any thought of Christ. We should cancel Christmas and instead celebrate
the birth of Jesus Christ. I still believe in Christmas, but not in the
holiday as our culture celebrates it. I believe in the real message of
Christmas, which is the birth of our Lord.
Maybe you are bracing yourself for a tough Christmas. Maybe you think
Christmas won't be as good this year as it was before. But what if this
Christmas were better than any Christmas you have ever experienced, because
you have been freed from the pressure of having to get stuff? That could be
a really good Christmas. It could actually be the most wonderful Christmas
of your life.
The primary message of Christmas is this: God is with us. Isaiah 7:14 tells
us, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin
shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." Immanuel
means, "God is with us."
So the message of the season is not, "Let it snow" or even, "Let us shop."
The real message of Christmas is, "Let us worship." That is what the wise
men came to do. And that is what we should be doing as well.

Summary sentence: Are you bracing yourself for a tough Christmas?

THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST IN HIS ASCENSION
Part 1 of 2
by ~ Jack Trumm ~

The ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ into heaven is the final event of
his fulfilling all righteousness on our behalf, from His:

1. Death on the cross
2. The shedding of His blood
3, His burial
4. His resurrection
5. His ascension

As we have seen what the previous four events have meant for all of
mankind, let us review what our Lord's passion has done for us.

1. His death (He died our spiritual death) Romans 5:8 says, "But God
commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us."

2. His shed blood (cleanses us from all unrighteousness) Romans 5:9 says,
"Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from
wrath through him." In Ephesians 1:7 we read, "In whom we have redemption
through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his
grace. And Colossians 1:14 says, "In whom we have redemption through his
blood, even the forgiveness of sins.

3. His burial (our sin nature, or our old adamic nature was buried with
him.) Romans 6:4 it says., "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism
into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of
the Father, even so we also should ~walk in newness of life." And
Colossians 2:12. "··Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as
in my presence only but now much more in my absence, work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling."

4. His resurrection (God regards us as being just or innocent, free, or
being made righteous.) Romans 4:25 says, "Who was delivered for our
offences, and was raised again for our justification."

So this brings us to the final event of our Lord giving of Himself on our
behalf, His ascension into heaven. Let's ask ourselves a few questions:

1. What does the word ascension mean?
2. How do we know our Lord ascended?
3. What does his ascension mean for us?

First. let's look at the word ascension or (ascend). What does the word
mean, according to the Strong's Concordance? It means "to go up, arise,
come up". So when we speak of our Lord's ascension, we are speaking of him
ascending or going back up to heaven after his resurrection. So this brings
up the second question. How do we know that our Lord ascended back into
heaven? "And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his
hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was
parted from them, and carried up into heaven." (Luke 24:50-51) "And when he
had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud
received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward
heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which
also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same
Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner
as ye have seen him go into heaven." (Acts 1:9-11) "Now that he ascended,
what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the
earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all
heavens, that he might fill all things." (Ephesians 4:9-10)

"God's Word to You"!

God's Word to You today is found in Matthew 1:18-23

18Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother
Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found
to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, being a
just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her
quietly. 20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to
take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy
Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he
will save his people from their sins." 22 All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us).

Christmas is just weeks away. Some of us have already finished our
shopping, whew, thanks God for us starting so early. Some have barely
started or even not at all yet.

There are those who are already in the Spirit of Christmas, like me who
think we need to celebrate it daily. And then there are those looking and
searching for that Christmas feeling, that mushy sentimental old style
whatever they felt growing up feeling.

Unfortunately those who seek "that Christmas feeling" or "getting into the
Spirit of Christmas" need have a tendency to look as a popular Country
Western song says, "in all the wrong places".

They seek re-enacting old memories and lost traditions, or maybe seeking
all new friends and starting over. It may be that attraction to someone
new in a bar or an old flame that we for some reason broke up with but that
isn't important anymore because we seek comfort in the familiar.

Here's the problem. To really understand what Christmas is all about and
to really appreciate it and to get the most out of it you have to know
Christ. Now that may sound real simple. You may belong to the thought
process that Christmas is about Santa and peace on earth and everybody
accepting everybody for who they are even if only one day a year. But
nope. It's all about Jesus.

It's all about the Creator of all who knows every star in the universe and
all the hairs on our head who decided that since we could never be with Him
on our own that HE would come to be with us not only to visit and then go
back to Heaven but be with us forever if we choose.

He is the greatest gift we could ever have. He is the one who sacrificed
out of love. He is the reason for the season. He is the only way to "get
into the Spirit" of Christmas. Amen? Amen!

Coffee Break

"Fear Of Who?"

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the
soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body
in hell." Matthew 10:28

Who do we fear? Has our fear of man replaced our fear of God? Have
we stopped speaking the truth when the situation dictates because we
fear man more than we fear God? Have we stopped contending for the
faith because we fear man above our fear of God? Have we ceased to be
obedient to the commands of God because of our fear of man?

King Saul is our example of the consequences of fearing man more than
we fear God. "And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have
transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I
feared the people, and obeyed their voice." (1 Samuel 15:24) The Lord
rejected him from being king over Israel.

"The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the
Lord shall be safe." (Proverbs 29:25) The fear of man will bring a
snare that will disturb our peace. It also brings a snare that will
entangle us and lead us into sin.

"I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou
shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man
which shall be made as grass." (Isaiah 51:12) Why do we fear people-
their opinions, their words, their looks, their responses, their
threats- more than we fear God? They are no different than we are.
They will all die one day just like we will. Their power is limited
just like ours is. They aren't God, they can only kill the body- if
God permits- and after that there is nothing else they can do to us.
It is the fear of the Lord that we must be more concerned with than
the fear of man, because He has the power to destroy both soul and
body.

How do we stop fearing man? The antidote is to fear God. It is
better to have them look down upon us, talk about us, ridicule us,
persecute us, than to have God "frown" upon us.

Have a great day. When you truly fear God, you won't fear man.

*Daily Devotional
* Betty Miller shares her daily devotionals which are based
on the book of Proverbs in the Bible.* * * The Wisdom of God*

*Verses for the Day:

Proverbs 19:18(KJV):
18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his
crying.

Proverbs 19:18(NIV):
18 Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing
party to his death.*

*Thoughts for the Day:*

The book of *Proverbs* gives excellent advice in regard to raising
children. This verse tells us that the sooner one disciplines his son, the
better; as the longer rebellion is allowed to rule a child, the harder it
will be to bring him under control. At some point one can lose hope of his
child ever yielding to correction. That is why it is important to start
training and disciplining a child at an early age. We are warned in this
verse also not to allow the child's crying and pleading to keep us from
doing the disciplining. Children will try to play on a parent's sympathy to
escape the punishment; however, if we really love them we will not allow
this to happen.

*Proverbs 13:24(NIV): "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who
loves him is careful to discipline him."*

*Proverbs 23:13-14(NIV):
13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod,
he will not die.
14 Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death.*

Discipline of children should begin at an early age, whenever a child
begins to defy the parent. Remember the old saying,* "He who spares the
rod, spoils the child." *The Bible says that all children have foolishness
in their hearts. The Bible definition of a fool means one who is a rebel,
so this is saying that all children have rebellion in them and when it
surfaces, it is our duty as parents to drive it out of them. We are to do
this by punishing them with a whack on the buttocks with a small reed-like
rod. This rod could be a switch from a fruit tree branch or a willow tree
branch or a small wooden spoon. It is not to be a large heavy rod or
anything that would cause permanent physical damage. The purpose of a
spanking is not to cause any lasting bodily harm, but to cause spiritual
correction. A spanking should be swift and cause short lived pain that
makes a point. That point is that the small pain they feel now will
prevent them from feeling great pain by the act they are committing, which
could cause them loss of their lives in some cases. (For instance, if a
child tries to run across the street, they could be run over and killed.)

Children who are not properly disciplined, are among the most miserable of
children. Unruly and spoiled children are not the blessings that the Bible
says they should be to parents. When a child is given no boundaries, they
feel lost. If they have been given boundaries, yet those boundaries are not
maintained, it causes great harm to a child, as they will not only be in
dangerous territory, they will also lose respect for authority. This is
where we find so many of the children and youth of today. They are rebels,
who not only disrespect authority, but openly defy all authority figures
such as teachers, policemen, clergy, and their own parents. The blame rests
upon the parents of these children, if they have not heeded the advice
given in this and other verses found in* Proverbs*.

*Prayer for the Day:*

*Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for allowing me to have children and
grandchildren. Lord, help me to be the proper kind of parent who loves her
children enough to discipline them. Forgive me when I have failed my
children. Help me to be patient, loving, and kind in all disciplinary
acts. Lord, I pray for the parents and grandparents of this generation
that they may have wisdom, love and guidance in all of their relationships
with their children and grandchildren. Lord, give our children a
submissive heart and spirit toward authority so that our society can
function in peace and order. May we all have the fear of the Lord in our
lives which causes us to respect all authority that God has ordained. I
ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. *

The Final Decision

Every day when we awaken is not necessarily a delight,
some tests and trials may cause us a fright.
Some incidences that we incur or we may have to face,
may have us wishing we could be in another place.

Some of the pains or heartaches we may have to endure,
could cause us to wonder if we should have done more.
But there is one who knows us from the first to the last,
every right or wrong we've done in our past.

One who knew ever since the beginning of time,
every mistake ever made both yours and mine.
One who loved us despite what we'd one day do,
one who offered forgiveness and life anew.

One who out of that love sacrificed what was needed,
so eternal life would belong to all who heeded.
Eternal life that could never be earned or bought,
only accepted as the Word has taught.

Taught to those who sincerely sought to understand,
the precious loving gift of the Salvation Plan.
Have you yourself asked God to help you to see,
just what He's offering so lovingly?

Have you sought discernment so you' fully comprehend,
so you could make your choice before your life's end?
There are only two places where our Eternity can be spent,
one is living with Jesus the other is in eternal torment.

Only one person has the right or ability to make that choice,
each of us must do so with our own voice.
No matter how much you're loved by those you're Blessed to know,
you and you alone determines where for eternity you'll go.

No one is promised tomorrow no one knows when their life will end,
making your a decision today may be on what your eternity depends.
Won't you open your Bible won't you ask God to show you today,
to help you to understand and to show you the way!

I'm praying for your soul; I'm asking God to show you what to do,
but the acceptance of your salvation is completely up to You!

Read | Isaiah 53

Yesterday, as we explored some biblical history leading up to
the time of Jesus, we saw that the Jews were expecting a Savior. Yet
Jesus didn't match the Messiah they anticipated.

The people imagined a strong ruler who would lead their nation
with worldly power, but the Lord was a servant who spent time with
outcasts. They hoped for a man who would end Israel's persecution; He
died a criminal's death and warned His followers that they would not
be accepted by the world. It is, then, no surprise that the Jewish
people rejected Him. He did not fit what they wanted—yet He was so
much more than they understood.

For all of us will one day stand before God, and in our
iniquity, we would be unworthy to remain in His presence. His judgment
of sin will be death, an agonizing eternal existence apart from Him.
This is what He warned Adam in Genesis 2:17—that if he sinned, he
would die.

Yet Jesus bore our sin so that whoever trusts in Him can look
forward to eternal life instead (John 3:16). Christ chose to bear our
punishment—the Holy One voluntarily dying the death of a criminal so
we could live forever in His presence. Jesus was "the way" (14:6) that
God could satisfy His justice yet love His people.

Jesus' gift of salvation is free. It requires nothing on our
part except acceptance and surrender. Have you accepted His death on
the cross as the atonement for your sin? The Redeemer's death leads to
life, and though He doesn't guarantee an easy road, He promises to
stay with you always.

Charles Stanley

Speak Your Mind Without Fear

by Jane Powell

"Speak up! It will do your self-confidence wonders."

If you're in a meeting at work or at a family gathering don't be
afraid to share your thoughts, opinions, and ideas. They're just as
important as the thoughts, opinions and ideas of the others in the
room.

When you don't share your thoughts because you fear how they
will be received and the reaction they may trigger, you slowly chip
away at your self-confidence.

If the thought of speaking up makes your whole body tense, then
start with smaller one-on-one conversations. This is perfect practice
for the important occasions that will surely follow.

You were born with a capacity for great courage, for
trust in your surroundings and for faith in yourself.
But something happened along the way that changed
this positive capacity.
If you were criticized at an early age and denied
encouragement by those you trusted you could
learn to believe that something was wrong with
you. Over time, such beliefs may appear as the
absolute truth-a definition of your identity.
Guess what? It's simply not true! You are perfect
and it's time to act that way. As hard as it may be
to regain your self-esteem, you can forget and forgive
what happened when you were young. You can
regain the courage, trust, and faith that are your
birthright, by recognizing that, although youthful
disillusionment can be changed, it can be overcome.

Choose again

You have chosen every thought, every feeling, every response and
every action. Now you have the opportunity to choose again.

If you're completely satisfied with where you are, keep making
the same choices that have brought you here. If you prefer to
experience more valuable, fulfilling results, then make more positive,
appropriate choices.

Any outcome is within your power to create because any choice is
within your power to make. The priorities you choose determine the
realities you get.

Every moment of every day you are exerting a powerful and
effective influence on your world. Whether that influence is positive
or negative depends entirely on the choices you make.

Not only can you choose, you can learn from what you choose and
continually improve the quality of your choices as you make more and
more of them. Because you're able to learn and adapt, nothing you
truly desire is out of your reach.

So look deep within and become familiar with your most authentic
desires. Then commit to making the choices that will fulfill every one
of them.

The First and Last Word
Hosea 14:1--9
"... for in you the fatherless find compassion." (v. 3)

Repentance is commonly thought of as simply an acknowledgment and
confession of sin. But the repentance God desires of us is not only
contrition for particular sins; it is a daily attitude, an ongoing
perspective. Martin Luther started the Reformation when he nailed his
95 Theses to the door of the Castle church at Wittenburg, and the very
first of his statements read thus: "When our Lord Jesus Christ said
'repent' He willed that the entire life of believers be one of
repentance." Note that -- "the entire life of believers." Repentance
is not a one-time act, it is a process -- the process by which we see
ourselves day by day as we really are: sinful, needy, dependent
people.

It is the process by which we see God as He is: awesome, majestic and
holy. Repentance is the ultimate surrender of self. The call to
repentance is one of the most consistent themes of the Bible. We must
be aware that no matter how radical our repentance at conversion,
sinful tendencies remain in varying degrees. Constantly we need to
recognize that our carnal nature may surface at any time to disagree
with God. We will never be able in move into a deep relationship with
God unless we maintain an attitude of repentance. "Every bit of growth
in the Christian life," said one theologian, "is based on the
re-enactment of the original redemptive occurrence." By that he meant
that the way we came into the Christian life is the way we continue in
it -- by repentance. Repentance is the first word of the gospel -- and
the last.

Prayer:
Thank You, Father, for spelling out for me the truth that repentance
is not merely an act but an attitude. From now on and by Your grace
may this forever be the attitude of my soul. In Jesus' Name I pray.
Amen.

Rusting or Trusting

Do not fret.... Trust.
Psalm 37:1, 3

Recommended Reading
Psalm 37:1-4
The Harbour Bridge and nearby Opera House are iconic images of Sydney,
Australia. But engineers have recently grown alarmed that the famous bridge
is showing serious signs of corrosion. Last year city officials spent $12
million fighting an endless battle with rust.

Anxiety is like rust. It coats and corrodes the mind, weakening the entire
structure. Worry dissolves our peace just as rust eats away the strength of
a bridge--weakening the metal that was formerly strong.

Sydney's Harbour Bridge will be fine. Workers have been stripping the
structure back to bare metal and starting the rustproofing process all over
again with special paints. But how do you rustproof the heart?

You simply add a "t" and turn rust to trust. The writer of Psalm 37 said:
"Trust in the LORD...Delight yourself also in the LORD... Commit your way
to the LORD, trust also in Him... Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for
Him; do not fret... trust in Him" (v. 3, 4, 5, 7, 40).

Jesus Christ the Sin Bearer
Matthew 26:26-27
The cross is so common in our culture that most people don't think twice
when they see one on a church. But unfortunately, familiarity with the
symbol can actually get in the way of understanding what it truly means. So
let's stop to consider how Jesus became the bearer of sin.
We begin with Scripture written long before Jesus was born. Genesis, the
first book of the Bible, explains how man chose to disobey God. Because
Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, their descendants are all born under
the curse of death, having inherited a sinful "flesh" nature.
In Leviticus, God's laws for the Jewish nation included observance of Yom
Kippur, the day each year when the Israelites fasted, prayed, and
sacrificed an animal to atone for sin. In essence, the goat would bear the
wrongs done by the people and suffer the penalty that divine justice
required.
Centuries later, Isaiah prophesied that a Savior would atone for
transgression once and for all (Isa. 53:5, 8; Heb. 7:27). After another 700
years, John the Baptist identified Jesus as the Lamb of God who would take
away the sin of the world (John 1:29). The Messiah had come, though He was
totally different from what the people expected—so much so, in fact, that
they rejected Him and requested His crucifixion.
In all, God gave 613 laws through Moses. But none of us can perfectly
follow even the Ten Commandments. In fact, one reason He gave us these
rules is to show us our need for a Savior (Ps. 19:7; Gal. 3:24). Meditate
on those commands (Ex. 20:1-17), asking God to speak to your heart.

THE OFFENCE OF THE NATURAL

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with
the affections and lusts.
Galatians 5:2

The natural life is not sinful; we must be apostatized from sin, have
nothing to do with sin in any shape or form. Sin belongs to hell and
the devil; I, as a child of God, belong to heaven and God. It is not
a question of giving up sin, but of giving up my right to myself, my
natural independence and self-assertiveness, and this is where the
battle has to be fought. It is the things that are right and noble
and good from the natural stand point that keep us back from God's
best. To discern that natural virtues antagonize surrender to God, is
to bring our soul into the centre of its greatest battle. Very few of
us debate with the sordid and evil and wrong, but we do debate with
the good. It is the good that hates the best, and the higher up you
get in the scale of the natural virtues, the more intense is the
opposition to Jesus Christ. "They that are Christ's have crucified
the flesh" - it is going to cost the natural in you everything, not
something. Jesus said - "If any man will be My disciple, let him deny
himself," i.e., his right to himself, and a man has to realize Who
Jesus Christ is before he will do it. Beware of refusing to go to the
funeral of your own independence.
The natural life is not spiritual, and it can only be made spiritual
by sacrifice. If we do not resolutely sacrifice the natural, the
supernatural can never become natural in us. There is no royal road
there; each of us has it entirely in his own bands. It is not a
question of praying, but of performing.

*God's Timing is not Ours*

By Darren Hewer

Jairus is in a hurry. If you have children, or even if you don't, you can
probably sympathize with his plight. You see, his little daughter is dying.
Or, as the Message paraphrase puts it, his "dear daughter is at death's
door." Mark 5:23
So you can imagine why he'd be more than a little perturbed when, the Lord
tarries on the way to Jairus' house. "Who touched my clothes?" Jesus
suddenly asks the crowd. The disciples, perhaps a bit anxious themselves
given the gravity of the situation, reply "Look at this crowd pressing
around you. How can you ask? Who touched me?'" Then Jesus proceeds to
leisurely engage the woman in conversation. It turns out that she's
suffered from a medical condition for the last twelve years.
"Twelve years?" thinks Jairus, "My daughter is dying! Surely this woman can
wait a little longer!"
Then, while Jesus is still talking with the woman, messengers arrive with
the most dreaded news imaginable: "Your daughter is dead."
"Oh Lord, why couldn't you just have hurried?" Jairus probably cried to
himself. From a human perspective, all was lost. But from a heavenly
perspective, "all things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27) Jesus
responded immediately: "Don't be afraid; just believe." (Mark 5:36)
God's timing is not ours: "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years are like a day." (1 Peter 3:8) But we can be confident
that whenever and however God chooses to respond to us, it will be good,
just, and to His glory.
If you've been patiently praying with seemingly no response, don't lose
heart. Jesus implores us to not be afraid and trust in Him; consider the
parable of the persistent widow Jesus told in Luke 18:1-8, which Jesus told
to encourage us that we "should always pray and not give up". Be encouraged
that while God's timing is not ours, because He is always for you, not
against you, and we will someday, at just the right moment, fully
understand His divine timing.
Questions: What is a prayer that you have been earnestly praying for
lately? Are you ready to leave it in God's competent hands when/how/if he
answers it?

*What Can You Expect? *
*

*
By Gail Rodgers

As we grow in trusting the Lord daily with our situations, as we
acknowledge Him in all our ways, as we release our cares to Him … we can
expect a result.
God's word is clear about the results of trusting the Lord. Listen to what
He says,
"Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope
and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep
into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long
months of drought.
Their leaves stay green and they never stop producing fruit."
Jeremiah 17:7 & 8
As we walk through our days with a confident expectation in the Lord,
knowing He will meet us in the midst of our need, we will feel His blessing
on our hearts. Our circumstances may remain challenging yet His strength
will steady us, His comfort will touch us, His peace will wash over us, His
presence will encase us, His wisdom will guide us and His love will
surround us.
When our roots go down deep into all the Lord is we will remain fruitful
and green even when there is drought all around us.
Feast your heart and mind on all He is today. Your roots will draw water
from a deep place and you will be blessed.
Father God, Life is full of cares and around me there is much drought of
many kinds. Thank you that You are all I need. Thank you that You will
guide me and shepherd me through the maze of life as I trust You with my
whole heart. Increase my faith today as I trust You with and in the cares
of my life. (name them specifically). I thank You and pray this in the
strong name of Jesus. Amen.

Flee to God

Read Psalm 139:7-12
Years ago, A. W. Tozer wrote, "The essence of idolatry is the
entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him." God is
much greater than we are, and our thoughts of Him must be great
thoughts. David's thoughts of God in this psalm center on His
omnipresence. As we read his words, we can answer three simple
questions.
Can we flee from God? The psalmist says no. Height and depth will not
enable us to run away from God. Life has its ups and downs. God is
there when we're up, and He's there when we're down. In essence, David
says in verse 9, "If at sunrise, I could jump on one of the sunbeams,
if I could fly across the sky from east to west at 186,000 miles per
second, when I got there, You'd be there already, Lord." The word
dwell means "to arrest." Even if we try to run away, God's hand is
going to catch us and lead us.
Who would flee from God? Those who are afraid of Him. Among those in
the Bible who tried to flee Him are Adam and Eve, Jonah and Judas
Iscariot. No true believer would ever try to run away from God. As
believers, we have fled to God, and we are hiding in Him.
What are the blessings of fleeing to God? If you have problems,
difficulties and sin, run to God. The Lord's presence kept Paul going
during difficult times. Like the apostle, we need to discover that no
matter how difficult a situation is, the Lord is with us. When we hide
in the Lord, we receive courage, encouragement, comfort and strength
for the battle. Respond to God's invitation: "Come to Me, and I will
give you rest" (Matt. 11:28). Hide in the Lord. He's the only place of
safety and satisfaction.

* * *
God's omnipresence is a blessing to those who hide in Him. Perhaps you
have tried to run from the Lord. Return to Him; He is always ready to
receive you when you've gone astray. Whatever difficulty you may be
facing, don't hide from life--hide in the Lord. He will give you
strength to fight the battle.

If you haven't done so, why not ask Jesus to forgive your sins and to
come into your heart to be your Savior and Lord? Just pray the
following prayer: "O God, I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sin and I
am willing to turn from it. I receive Jesus as my Savior; I confess
Him as my Lord. From now on, I want to follow Him in the fellowship
of His Church. In Jesus' name. Amen"

YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO HIM

For in Him we live and move and have
our being.'As some of your own poets
have said, We are His offspring.
(Acts 17:28)

There are times when we may think we are not important to God,
after all there are tens of millions of Christians alive right now.
So how can just one person make a difference to our Heavenly Father?

Well Friends, God knows you intimately for it is written; even the
very hairs of your head are all numbered.(Luke 12:7) After all God
calls you His Child, and even though you are just one in His Family of
millions, He knows you intimately!

Remember that He has said; Before I formed you in the womb I knew
you, before you were born (Jeremiah 1:5) and He even made you in His
own
image did He not.

So always remember that He is very proud of you, and; The Lord your
God is with you, He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you
with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
(Zephaniah 3:17) Therefore, may you
feel blessed in knowing that joy fills God's heart every time He
thinks about you, Amen.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!

Confession Is Good for . . .

Daniel 8-10, 3 John
Key Verses: Daniel 9:4-5
Remember this phrase--"Confession is good for the soul"? It seems like
we readily agree with that statement, especially when we are trying to
get someone else to confess! At the same time, it's quite possible
that the least frequently offered prayer is one of confession. We do
best with requests, remember to at least say, "thanks," are possibly
passable with the amount of worship in our praying, but fail miserably
in regard to confession.
So if you agree that confession is good for the soul, when was the
last time you practiced it?
One of the great prayers of the Bible is in Daniel 9. Daniel offered
it in response to reading Scripture. He understood what the Word said,
and it affected him tremendously. He prayed, fasted, and confessed.
Read again carefully this prayer of Daniel. Note the request portion.
It is very short, toward the end, and really no more than one
phrase--"turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your
city, your holy hill" (9:16). Then immediately Daniel returns to
confession.
Our prayers should be balanced. They should include worship,
thanksgiving, requests and confession. It is not necessary that each
prayer have all four, but as we examine our prayer life, all should be
evident, including confession.
Think now about your prayer life. Perhaps it isn't much. (That is a
subject all its own to consider!) Whatever the current condition is of
your prayer life, do you confess?
"Father, right now I need to confess that . . ."
