WHO ARE YOU GONNA PLEASE? - Exodus 4:24-26 NIV

At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met {Moses} and was about to
kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and
touched {Moses'} feet with it. "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to
me," she said. So the LORD let him alone. (At that time she said
"bridegroom of blood," referring to circumcision.)

Apparently, Moses had not obeyed the Lord's command (Genesis 17:10) when it
came to circumcising his son, and the Lord was not pleased. In all
probability, Moses had avoided it because his wife, Zipporah, and her family
were not Hebrews. Although they most likely knew about God, they did not
live under the covenants made by God with Abraham. Obviously, from her
reaction, Zipporah did not like this business of circumcision. In fact, she
hated it. For what reason, we do not know. But because Moses had listened
to her, God was so angry that He was "about to kill him" (Moses). Sensing
that her attitude was about to bring down divine judgment on her husband,
Zipporah took a flint knife (sharper than the metal knives available at
that time) and cut off her son's foreskin, then touched Moses' feet* with it
(*most likely a euphemism for genitals), saying, "Surely you are a
bridegroom of blood to me." (Exodus 4:25 NIV)

Zipporah didn't perform the circumcision of her son with great reverence for
God. she did it in a fury, irate at having to do something that - for
whatever reason - repulsed her. Quite simply, that lady was not happy! I
don't imagine the son was in too good a frame of mind at that point, either!
But her action saved Moses' life.

Moses, just like you and me, had been trying to please his wife, not God.
And look at the mess it got him into! How many times do we all do something
that will make those around us happy, rather than doing what we know God
would have us do? And how many times do our actions get us into a mess? As
we study the scriptures, we can see that the Bible - besides being the most
beautiful love letter ever written - is a very long and detailed instruction
manual for living our lives. Mixed in with all the instructions, we are
given countless examples of how not following God's plan creates havoc. And
yet we keep on trying to please our family, our friends, our co-workers,
rather than trying to please God... afraid to stand up for what we know in
our hearts is right!

Who do you really want to please with your life? Think about it.

"In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise - in God I
trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Psalm 56:10-11 NIV
