!!श्रीमभ्दगवग्दीता, अध्याय:०१/श्लोक:०१/पोस्ट:०१!!

!!ॐ नमो भगवाते!!
परमगीत पुनीता: भगवत गीता!
गीता: महागीत है, महासंगीत है. ज्ञानगीत है, अध्यात्मगीत है.
गीता कोई कथा-कहानी जैसी नहीं है. गीता विशुद्ध ज्ञान है, सत्य-ज्ञान है.
सर्वोपयोगी, सर्वोत्कृष्ट है, ज्ञान का महासागर है गीता.
यह हर काल के, हर जाति के, हर वंश, गोत्र, धर्म, सम्प्रदाय, संघ के
मनुष्यों के लिए आत्मा सदृश्य अमृत है, अनैश्वेर है, शास्वत है.
गीता में श्रीक्रष्ण अपने सखा, शिष्य, प्रिय अर्जुन को कहते हैं-
"हे अर्जुन! जो ज्ञान मैनें सृष्टि के आरम्भ में सूर्य को कही थी, वही
ज्ञान, वही परमज्ञान आज तुझे मैं कह रहा हूँ." – यह घोषणा उस शरीर नाम से
जाने जाने वाले कृष्ण, जिस शरीर के जनक वसुदेवजी हें, जननी देवकीजी हैं-
उस शरीर की यह घोषणा नहीं है.
यह घोषणा करने वाला परमात्मा (परम् आत्मा) हैं , ईश्वर हैं , सर्वेश्वर
हैं, परमेश्वर हैं,
या किसी नाम से जाना जाने वाला, किसी धर्म के अनुआयियों द्वारा माना या
जाना जाने वाला-
सर्वव्यापी, सर्वकालीन, सर्वज्ञ, सर्वातीत, सर्वलिप्त, सर्वालिप्त- परम
अस्तित्व की है, अनंत अस्तित्व की है.
यह घोषणा उसी अनंत परम् अस्तित्व की है कि:
"सृष्टि के आरंभ में मैंने जो ज्ञान सूर्य को कही थी वही ज्ञान हे
अर्जुन! उसी ज्ञान को मैं आज तुझसे कह रहा हूँ." यह कहना, यह घोषणा विराट
परम् अस्तित्व की है
जो पूर्ण रूप में वसुदेवजी के पुत्र श्रीकृष्णजी के मुखारविंद से की जा रही है.
परमात्मा हर काल में, हर युग में, हर अर्जुन के समक्ष अपने संपूर्ण रूप
में, विराट रूप में प्रकट होता है,
गीत गाता है, गीता को प्रकट करता है, महाज्ञान को प्रकट करता है,
आत्मज्ञान को, प्रमात्मज्ञान को अभिव्यक्त करता है.
यहीं श्रीकृष्ण के द्वारा उपरोक्त घोषणा में श्रीकृष्ण के कहने के भाव
हैं- मेरी समझ से.

गीता महाअध्यात्म है, महागीत है, महाकाव्य है.
समस्त जगत की उत्पति, सञ्चालन प्रकृति और विनाश प्रकृति के अनंत गूढ़तम
रहस्यों को प्रकट कराती है-गीता! जङ जगत, चेतन जगत, अंतर्चेतन जगत,
अतिचेतन जगत-
सबों का विज्ञानं और मनोविज्ञान संपूर्ण और स्पष्ट रूप
आलोकित की है परमात्मा ने, श्रीकृष्ण ने:
सर्वकाल के मनुष्यों के लिए: श्रीमभ्दगवग्दीता में, श्रीगीता में.

श्रीगीता के श्लोकों में एक शब्द भी अनावश्यक नहीं कहा गया है.
सार्थक हें, परमार्थक हें, रहस्यमयी हैं सारे शब्द गीता के सारे श्लोकों के.
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समावेता युयुत्सवः!
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत सञ्जय!!

1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV). However, as it is written:''No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for
those who love him.''...... Thoughts on This Verse... Kids look
forward to Christmas, Disneyland, and summer vacation. They imagine
how great those things could be. Christians look forward to heaven and
dream of seeing the Lord face to face, of being reunited with those we
love who have gone home to the Lord before us, and of sharing in the
glory of Jesus and his angels. But we can't even begin to imagine the
great things that God has prepared for us. They are far more glorious
than anything we can dream or imagine. So let's anticipate being
surprised and live with passion for the cause of the Kingdom knowing
that any loss, any wound, any trouble, will''not be worth comparing to
the glory to be revealed in us'' (Rom. 8:18).

I heard about two young city slickers who were driving through a small
town out in East Texas. They stopped at a little café for a bite to
eat, and they noticed an old farmer bowing his head and giving thanks
for his food.

Now, this wasn't something they were used to seeing in the city. So
they walked over to that old man with a little smirk on their faces
and said, "Sir, does everybody around here pray like that before they
eat?" Without even looking up at the two, the old man said, "Nope. The
hogs don't."

As believers in Christ, expressing your thankfulness toward God for
the blessings in your life is of the upmost importance. In fact, as
you read today's passage, you'll see that there is a direct
correlation between letting Christ rule in your hearts and being
thankful for His blessings!

Now, I'm not saying you have to bow your head and close your eyes
every time you chew a piece of gum. But take some time each day to
acknowledge God's blessings, and thank Him for what He's given you.
When you do that, you'll begin to see just how blessed you are and
just how good God is!

THANKFULNESS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE CHRISTIAN
LIFE. SO SPEND SOME TIME EACH DAY ACKNOWLEDGING GOD'S BLESSINGS AND
EXPRESSING YOUR GRATEFULNESS TO HIM.

The Spiritual Problem Of Rebellion

1 Samuel 15:23
Rebellion is as the sin of divination (witchcraft), and insubordination is
as iniquity and idolatry

If you fail to bring your child under control during his early years,
problems may not show up until he hits the age of identity, around 12. Most
parents respond at this time by trying to control the child. But the
authoritarian parent is most likely to produce a rebel. "But we have to
reprove rebellious kids, don?t we?" Actually, the Bible tells us not to
reprove a scoffer (Proverbs 9:7-9). Why? Because rebellion is a spiritual
problem, and it requires a spiritual solution.

Saul, the first king of Israel, rebelled against God by doing his own
things, making his own rules, and worshiping the way he wanted to. God sent
a prophet to confront him. Part of the prophet?s stinging rebuke was,
"Rebellion is as the sin of divination [witchcraft], and insubordination is
as iniquity and idolatry" (1 Samuel 15:23). As a result of Saul?s
disobedience, "an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him" (1 Samuel
16:14).

God can use any means He chooses to discipline His children. Even Satan and
his evil spirits can be an instrument in the hands of God (1 Corinthins
5:5). I?m not suggetsing that you turn your child over to Satan. But
willful disobedience usually cannot be dealth with by human reasoning. have
you ever tried to reason with a rebellious child? Prayer is our weapon for
bringing down stronghoolds raised up against the knowledge of God (2
Corinthins 10:3-5).

Read Hebrews 11 – 13
Highlights:
What faith is, what it does, and how it is developed (Heb. 11; Rom. 10:17).
Like a faithful parent, the Lord disciplines His children (Heb. 12:5-13);
so listen and obey when He speaks (12:14-29), because He is the same
yesterday, and to day, and for ever (13:8) — never out of date.
Believers in Christ, knowing He will soon rule the world, see the hand of
God in ordinary experiences such as where we shall live, our occupation,
and who our friends are. To the unbeliever, these decisions seem to be
entirely in the sphere of man's own judgment. Abraham, when he was called
to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance,
obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned
in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles
with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked
for a city which hath foundations, whose Builder and Maker is God (Heb.
11:8-10).
Although during his life he never received the promise, Abraham's faith saw
beyond the grave. His trust did not waver even though at his death he
possessed only a grave site in Canaan. They who know Christ best and have
trusted God most are always the first to say that life is a series of
disappointments to human reasoning. But our disappointments are His
appointments. And we know that all things (without exception) work together
for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His
purpose (Rom. 8:28).
Abraham is spoken of as the Friend of God (James 2:23) and the father of
many nations (Gen. 17:4-5). Note too that Abraham was a wanderer, a
homeless man who lived in tents as a mere visitor in the land of promise —
a sojourner. Yes, the thought of being homeless seems to be incompatible
with happiness, but Abraham's life does illustrate that the great secret to
contentment in life is faith in the faithfulness of God. It was also said:
Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness (Rom.
4:3). The promises of God may seem at first to primarily assure an
abundance of earthly possessions, which we may be tempted to make our
primary desire. However, God seldom fulfills His promises according to our
expectations.
As one thing after another disappoints us and we hopefully grow in faith
and not in greed, we recognize how God is leading us to see beyond life's
unsatisfying, deceptive rewards to eternal incorruptible treasures in the
heavenly city as Abraham did. Abraham illustrates the inseparability of
faith and obedience to Christ's instruction: Let him deny himself, and take
up his cross daily, and follow Me (Luke 9:23).

among all nations, for His Name (Rom. 1:5).

1 John 2

If we keep His commandments and love our brothers, we walk in fellowship.

INSIGHT
It is sometimes difficult to know if we are in fellowship with the Lord. We
erroneously tend to rely on our feelings to gauge our relationship with
Him. If we "feel" spiritual one day, we think we are in fellowship with
Him. If on another day we do not "feel" spiritual, we assume we are not in
fellowship. John helps us with this dilemma; he describes fellowship for
us. If we are keeping the LordÕs commandments and loving others, we are in
fellowship whether we "feel" in fellowship or not. Do not let your feelings
deceive you and encourage you to sin.

PRAYER
Because the Creator of the universe longs for our fellowship, we worship
Him:
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor (Psalm 8:3-5).

Pause for praise and thanksgiving.

Pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from
sin:
Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is
of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.
(3 John 11)

Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind. Now pray this
affirmation to the Lord:
In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the
blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and
has broken down the middle wall of separation . . . For through Him we both
have access by one Spirit to the Father.
(Ephesians 2:13-14, 18)

As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
sensitivity to sin,
spiritual growth of your friends,
whatever else is on your heart.
Finally, offer this closing prayer to the Lord:
Who is wise?
Let him understand these things.
Who is prudent?
Let him know them.
For the ways of the Lord are right;
The righteous walk in them,
But transgressors stumble in them (Hosea 14:9).

Getting a Haircut

"There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of
Achor a door of hope" (Hos 2:15).
I walked into the local hair salon for only the second time and sat down to
get a haircut. "Hello Donna, how are you?" I said pleasantly. All of a
sudden she looked sad-eyed at me and began to cry uncontrollably with her
head on my shoulder. "Donna, what's wrong!?"
Donna began to tell me how her marriage was in a crisis and her husband was
being abusive. She told tale after tale of years of drug use by her
husband. The other customers were all quietly sitting in their chairs as
this was taking place. As Donna began to settle down we began to talk and
eventually we prayed together right there in the hair solon.
I gave Donna a few books to read and invited her to our house for a prayer
gathering we were having. It would be months before Donna could do anything
but vent about her husband and the pain she was experiencing. Our home
fellowship group prayed for Donna that night. Every two weeks, I would get
the latest on her situation. Donna had been a church-going person up to
this point but had little understanding of a walk with God. Gradually, over
time, Donna began to gain strength. She ultimately was divorced by her
husband and became free of the abusive relationship. But, sadly, she lost
her relationship with her daughter through the conflict.
However, God came to Donna through different people. First he sent a man
(me) to sit in her chair who could share the love of God. Then God sent
ladies who invited her to a Bible study that began to build a spiritual
foundation in Donna. She soon made a recommitment to her life and became
baptized.
Today Donna is a different person. She has broken free of the harmful
co-dependent abusive relationship. She has entered a new, love relationship
with her Savior.
Donna is the first to admit it took the Valley of Achor (trouble) to bring
her to the end of herself and to seek God with her whole heart. Today,
Donna is a servant of Jesus masquerading as a hair stylist.

Gifts That Matter Part 2

Today's Truth
If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full
measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running
over. Whatever measure you use in giving—large or small—it will be used to
measure what is given back to you (Luke 6:38, NLT).
Friend to Friend
Have you discovered the truth that we simply cannot "out-give" God? The
more we give, the more we receive. And that truth does not just apply to
financial giving. It is really all about the attitude behind the gift. Do
you remember the Christmas gifts you received last year? How about the
Christmas gifts you gave? What about the gift you gave Jesus? On Tuesday,
we talked about several meaningful gifts you can give. Here are a few more
for you to consider.
A gift of care Galatians 6:2 (RSV) "Bear one another's
burdens."
Christmas is a time of empty hopes and fierce loneliness for many people.
In fact, the holidays can be nothing more than a season riddled with pain.
Every loss is magnified. Every wound is deepened. Pray that the Father will
give you His eyes to see the broken lambs, crying out for help. This year,
do something for someone who is hurting:
· Invite them over for a meal.
· Listen to them.
· Meet one need in their life.
· Include them in your celebration.
· Take them shopping with you.
Christmas is always hard for me because it is a time when I especially miss
my mother who died many years ago. I don't openly broadcast that fact but
one Christmas, a precious older lady at our church somehow sensed that I
was struggling and decided to meet a need in my life. Cards filled my
mailbox. Every time I saw her, Miss Marion would hug me and tell me how
much she loved me. She invited our children over to bake Christmas cookies
and in doing so, became their adopted grandmother. Miss Marion died a few
years ago, but her loving care and investment in my life lives on.
A secret gift Matthew 6:3-4 (TLB) "But when you give to the needy, do not
let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving
may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will
reward you."
Give a gift to someone you know in secret without them knowing who it is
from and with no hidden motive and no apparent benefit to you. Dan and I
had been married for three years when we first discovered the joy that a
"secret gift" can bring. Dan was in seminary, I was teaching elementary
school, and we were both serving at a local church. It seemed as if we were
always running, always tired and always broke. At one point, the financial
picture was especially bleak. We had 10 days of life to go before the next
pay day and not a cent to our name. We told no one but God -- and waited.
One Sunday night, we pulled up to the mobile home where we were living and
started in the front (and only) door. There on the top step was a small but
heavy package wrapped in brown paper. It was a brick. Taped to each side of
the brick was a hundred dollar bill. God had provided for our needs through
a truly generous heart, someone who had chosen to give a secret gift. To
this day, we still have no idea who "bricked" us, but we often think of
them and ask God to bless their gift of encouragement.
A gift of forgiveness Colossians 3:13 (NCV) "Get along with each other,
and forgive each other."
The Christmas holidays have a way of resurrecting past hurts. The greatest
gift we can give ourselves for Christmas is the gift of forgiveness because
in choosing to forgive someone else, we set ourselves free. Every 60
seconds of anger displaces 60 seconds of joy. Let go of the hurts. Forgive
the wrongs and find healing.
Dan sold one of our old cars to a man who worked in the church maintenance
department. A payment plan was created, the title was transferred and the
man drove away, never to pay a cent. For months, I was furious, thinking of
the man who had stolen our car. To make matters worse, the man then left
the church to work at the grocery store -- my grocery store. Every time I
bought groceries, he was there and he was smiling. Just the sight of him
drove my blood pressure higher as my stomach knotted up with anger. Dan
finally decided to give him the car. I decided not to give him the car
until I realized the only person being hurt in the deal was me. The next
time I bought groceries I walked up to the man and said, "I hope the car is
working well for you. Dan and I have decided to just give you the car as a
gift." I walked away, a free woman, while he stood, open-mouthed and in
shock, now holding his own guilt in his hands.
A gift of teaching Romans 12:7 (NLT) "If your gift is serving others,
serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well."
What skill, ability or talent has God given you? Each one is from His hand,
meant to be given away in service to others. Is there a young believer in
your life you can mentor? What better time to share your gifts and
abilities than at Christmas? You may be able to sew or play the piano, cook
gourmet meals or beautifully decorate your home. Each talent and ability is
a potential gift. In high school, my choral director gave me a free voice
lesson each week. Consequently, I attended college on an academic and music
scholarship because one woman chose to share her gift with me.
Get creative! Give a gift from the heart this year. May this be a Christmas
filled with the joy of the Lord as you celebrate His birth and life.

Let's Pray
May God grant you the light in Christmas which is faith; the warmth of
Christmas, which is love; the radiance of Christmas, which is purity; the
righteousness of Christmas, which is justice; the belief in Christmas,
which is truth and the all of Christmas, which is Christ.

In this life, there is power in numbers, when we are working for the Lord.
Together, we work together for the Lord in His service, and in Him we are
secure. In our weakness, Jesus is our strength and His Spirit helps
us accomplish the tasks we are called to do. We are also to help
one another and work together. Unity brings victory in Jesus when
we work together and communicate openly and honestly.

*This is a repeat of a wonderful story I read about Jimmy Durante, one of
the
great entertainers of a generation ago. Mr. Durante was asked to be a
part
of a show for World War II veterans. He told them his schedule was very
busy and he could afford only a few minutes, but if they wouldn't mind his
doing one short monologue and immediately leaving for his next appointment,
he would come.

Of course, the show's director agreed happily. But when Jimmy got on stage,
something interesting happened. He went through the short monologue
and then stayed. The applause grew louder and louder and he kept staying.
Pretty soon, he had been on fifteen, twenty, then thirty minutes. Finally
he
took a last bow and left the stage. Backstage someone stopped him and said,
"I thought you had to go after a few minutes. What happened?"

Jimmy answered, "I did have to go, but I can show you the reason I stayed.
You can see for yourself if you'll look down on the front row." In the
front row were
two men, each of whom had lost an arm in the war. One had lost his right
arm and
the other had lost his left. Together, they were able to clap, and that's
exactly
what they were doing, loudly and cheerfully.

We see the story of how two could join together to accomplish what they
wanted
to do, even though they had been handicapped as a result of the war. In
spiritual
warfare, we see many who are wounded in the fight. These need others to
help
them get back in the race. One can chase a thousand when the enemy is in
pursuit, but two can put ten thousand to flight. Many times our plans must
be changed as we reach out to help strengthen another brother or sister
in Christ. True joy is putting Jesus first, others second, and self last.

Someone may be waiting today for someone willing to join with them and
help them
make it to the finish line. Working together in unity is required in the
Body of Christ
to be successful. We are to be as "one new man" in Christ and let His
Spirit unite
us in bonds of love and peace. May our prayer be to rescue the perishing
and care for the dying. Jesus is merciful....Jesus will save!

THOUGHT:
There are not many things the Bible says Jesus "had" to do. This
is a key one. Jesus had to be one of us. Notice that he did this so
he could be like us, his brothers (and sisters) in every way. The
reason? So he could be the perfect and faithful high priest who not
only made atonement for our sins, but was also the atoning
sacrifice for those sins. Incredible!

PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the incredible sacrifice you made so
I could be adopted into our Father's family and become your younger
sibling in our eternal family. Thank you for this grace that was
motivated out of your love and carried out by your loving
faithfulness. Through your name, Lord Jesus, I offer my praise and
thanks to our Father. Amen.

Questions Are Natural
Day 189

It is natural to have questions when unwanted and unexpected loss
comes into your life. The more traumatic the loss, the greater the
questions.

Dr. Tim Clinton says, "Not long ago when I lost my mother, I struggled
with the question why. Why so early? Why so quickly? When you ask why,
you are in essence validating your own humanness and realizing you are
not in control."

Express your questions freely, but realize that you cannot control
your life or anyone else's. The sovereign God is higher than all, and
His ways are beyond comprehension.

"'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my
ways,' declares the Lord" (Isaiah 55:8).

Sovereign God, I have so many whys. I could go on and on, but nothing
will change no matter how many times I ask. I do not understand this.
I do not understand You. But I realize I am not meant to. You, O Lord,
are high above all, and I must give my questions to You once and for
all. Amen.

Affair Proof Your Mind

"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit
is willing, but the body is weak." Matthew 26:41 (NIV 1984)

As a woman thinks...so she eventually acts.

A few years ago I watched a friend get tangled up in an emotional affair.

She was a strong Christian woman who loved her family but the
attraction to this other man seemed unavoidable. She tried to talk
herself out of it but her heart played tricks on her mind and the
justifications for letting things go just a little further soon led
her to a very dangerous place. She was becoming emotionally attached
to this other man.

In a moment of desperation and fear, she confided in me what was going on.

As she described how she got pulled into this place, I found myself
being challenged by the realization of how subtly this had happened.
She hadn't planned on being emotionally attracted to this other man.
As a matter of fact, she'd always prided herself on being a woman of
strong conviction and had scoffed at the idea of ever being tempted to
have an affair.

It starts off simple enough - a comment made that you mull over one
too many times, a conversation in which you find a surprising
connection, a glance that lingers just a second too long, or one of a
thousand other interactions that seem innocent yet aren't. These are
the dangerous seeds that can easily sprout into an emotional affair.

Some think it is a safe way to enjoy the lure of being attracted to
someone other than your spouse without crossing any lines. But God
boldly and plainly says in 1 Corinthians 6:18, "Flee from sexual
immorality." God doesn't say walk away from sexual immorality. No, He
says to flee as if your very life is at stake!

Our thoughts are so powerful. If we want to affair proof our
marriages, we must make our thoughts work for us instead of against
us.

The time to prevent an emotional affair is before it ever starts.

We must never assume it could never happen to me. We are all just a
few poor choices away from doing things we never thought we would.

Jesus warned his disciples in Matthew 26: 41,"Watch and pray so that
you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body
is weak."

The Life Application NIV Bible commentary says, "Jesus used Peter's
drowsiness to warn him about the kinds of temptation he would soon
face. The way to overcome temptation is to keep watch and pray.
Watching means being aware of the possibilities of temptation,
sensitive to the subtleties, and spiritually equipped to fight it."

Watching:
I now realize that I need to be aware that I am just as prone to this
temptation as anyone. One of the best ways to be watchful is to be
praying with and for my husband. We need to be open and honest about
meeting each other's needs and investing wisely in our marriage.

Sensitive to the Subtleties:
I will have to be honest with myself that temptations do exist. When
another man says or does something I wish my husband would say or do
and doesn't, it can make me lessen my husband in my heart and build up
this other man. This is a seed of poison.

Spiritually Equipped:
I must park my mind with the truth and the truth is I am married to an
amazing man. He is not perfect and sometimes our marriage can be hard,
but I made a commitment to him in a covenant before God and there are
no biblical reasons in our marriage why we should ever part.

My friend did the hardest but wisest thing she could have done in
telling me about her emotional affair. It helped her to see she needed
to flee and have someone else hold her accountable. But it also helped
me. Her admission made me aware and alert to the dangers lurking in
any kind of unhealthy emotional connection with another man.

Dear Lord, may I forever treasure my marriage and see it worthy to be
protected. Help me to be a courageous woman who absolutely flees from
any and every situation where there is even a hint of danger. In
Jesus' Name, Amen.

Application Steps:
The time to prevent an emotional affair is before it ever starts.
Confide in a friend or mentor to help hold you accountable in this
area.

Reflections:
Our thoughts are so powerful. If we want to affair proof our
marriages, we must make our thoughts work for us instead of against
us.

"God's Word to You"!

God's Word to You today is found in Mathew 10:32-33

32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge
before my Father who is in heaven, 33but whoever denies me before men, I
also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

I had an unexpected post on Facebook recently about if we deny Christ. It
was kinda thrilling because it was a surprise coming from where it came
from. It was sweet knowing that person had posted it and obviously God was
convicting them.

It made me stop and think though. I know where I work we have God fearing
people working there and it makes a huge difference in our attitudes and
environment. But we can't control those who come in to do business with
us.

I often find myself asking God for guidance and the ability to honor Him in
decisions and how I act and react to those who seem to not know Him. And
you know what? I sometimes fail.

And you know what else? If I am not careful and I let the distractions and
temptations of this world work their way into my thoughts and actions then
I too am denying Jesus. When I make it about me and not Him, I am in a
sense denying Jesus. When I decide I can do whatever without God and
forget to give credit to Him, I am denying Jesus.
The bad thing is if I get too full of myself. The good thing is like a
good father who loves me no matter what, He always gives me chance after
chance to grow.

I don't know about you but I can't deny Him in my life and testimony. I
sure can't do enough to pay Him back for my salvation. I definitely want
to do what I can to please Him and show my love for Him.

This Christmas I pray for each of you to rekindle your relationship with
Jesus in a new way. I pray for you to love Him more and know Him more.

ISAIAH 56:1-3, 6-8
This is what Yahweh says: Maintain what is right and do what is just,
for my salvation is close at hand, my justice is soon to come. Blessed
is the mortal who does these things, and perseveres in them, who does
not defile the sabbath and who refrains from evil. Let no foreigner
say, "Surely Yahweh will exclude me from his people." Neither let the
castrated man say, "I have become a mere dry tree." Yahweh says to the
foreigners who join him, serving him and loving his name, keeping his
sabbath unprofaned and remaining faithful to his covenant: I will
bring them to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of
prayer. I will accept on my altar their burnt offerings and
sacrifices, for my house will be called a house of prayer for all the
nations. Thus says the Lord God, Yahweh, who gathers the exiles of
Israel: There are others I will gather besides those already gathered.

JOHN 5:33-36
John also bore witness to the truth when you sent messengers to him,
but I do not seek such human testimony; I recall this for you, so that
you may be saved. John was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while
you were willing to enjoy his light. But I have greater evidence than
that of John—the works which the Father entrusted to me to carry out.
The very works I do bear witness: the Father has sent me.

REFLECTION
In the first reading, the prophet Isaiah says that all those who
follow the commands of the Lord are acceptable to Him, even if they
are foreigners. This means that the pagan converts to Judaism were
very much welcomed by Yahweh, especially since many of the Jewish
people were unfaithful to Him. This tells us that even sinners or
people who previously were irreligious are most welcome to be part of
the Christian community as long as they show a genuine desire to
follow the Christian way. There are many men of goodwill in our
society who, once attracted to Jesus, become his avid followers. In
fact, they eventually live a more holy life than many so-called
traditionally pious Catholics.

In the Gospel, Jesus explicitly says that He is the One sent by God as
Lord and Savior of men. He says that we need not look for others to
enlighten us but simply to observe and reflect on his words and deeds.
Many people nowadays turn to psychology, meditation and other
philosophies for spiritual enlightenment. But none of them possess the
truth, the way and the meaning of life – who Jesus is. Since he is the
Chosen One of God, we must believe in Him and follow Him. It is not
easy to follow Jesus, but if we ask for his help and protection,
surely he will not disappoint us. We must be like little children who
ask help from their parents when we pray to God because God is truly
our Father and Jesus is truly our Brother, Lord and Savior.

LUKE 7:24-30
When John's messengers had gone, Jesus began speaking to the people

enjoy delicate food are found in palaces. What did you go out to see?
A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. For John is the

ahead of you to prepare your ways. No one may be found greater than
John among those born of women but, I tell you, the least in the
kingdom of God is greater than he. All the people listening to him,

REFLECTION
More often than not, we meet our salvation through a series of
profound events. It is during these situations that our relationship
with God becomes meaningful. We allow God's love to take root in our
hearts. We begin to discover the mystery of the Trinity in all aspects
of our lives. But for God to become truly meaningful in our lives, we
need to be disciplined, persistent and dedicated. We need to prepare
for His coming into our hearts by converting ourselves.

For some of us conversion is difficult. It means uprooting ourselves
from what we are used to. Before God can enter in our hearts, we need
to clear out that which blocks us from accepting Him. We need to empty
ourselves of our misconceptions, our distrust, our fears and
anxieties. God comes into our hearts quietly and gently. Maybe we are
even unaware that His presence is already beginning to take root.

During this Advent season, let us be reminded of God's presence in our
hearts and the role each of us play in making Him truly alive in our
own lives and in the lives of others. Let us accept John's call to
conversion. Let us not overlook what the Father has in mind for us and
for the world.

The Period Becomes a Comma

He was dead, but He is alive forevermore. That such a thing could be
was intimated by the miracles of restoration which our Lord performed
during His earthly ministry. The widow's son was brought back to life
for a brief time; at our Lord's gentle call Jairus's little daughter
rose from her bed of death; and Lazarus, at Christ's command, came
forth bound hand and foot. These were but vague disclosures of what
was to come, and were at best only temporary suspensions of the
inexorable law which demands that death shall always follow
life--death complete and final. For these all died again, and the rule
of biography was upheld. Each ended in a sepulcher at last. And that
sepulcher was the period at the end of the last chapter. What a
perpetual wonder it is, then, that the biography of Jesus had to be
resumed. Luke added not merely another chapter, but a whole book. The
book of Acts was a logical necessity. "He showed himself alive after
his passion," writes Luke. The rest of the New Testament gives us some
idea of what He is doing now, and prophecy reveals a little of what He
will be doing through the ages to come.

Verse
The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of
linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, Take off the
grave clothes and let him go. John 11:44

Thought
What was it like for Lazarus to be dead four days and then be raised
to life again? Did he want to return? There is nothing recorded
concerning Lazarus after that experience. The period became a comma.
Lazarus would die again but he would be raised forev

Prayer
Thank You, Father, that for the believer the period becomes a comma.
From here we go home through Christ. Amen!

Both of them had an affection for Naomi, and therefore set out with her
upon her return to the land of Judah. But the hour of test came; Naomi most
unselfishly set before each of them the trials which awaited them, and bade
them if they cared for ease and comfort to return to their Moabitish
friends. At first both of them declared that they would cast in their lot
with the Lord's people; but upon still further consideration Orpah with
much grief and a respectful kiss left her mother in law, and her people,
and her God, and went back to her idolatrous friends, while Ruth with all
her heart gave herself up to the God of her mother in law. It is one thing
to love the ways of the Lord when all is fair, and quite another to cleave
to them under all discouragements and difficulties. The kiss of outward
profession is very cheap and easy, but the practical cleaving to the Lord,
which must show itself in holy decision for truth and holiness, is not so
small a matter. How stands the c!
ase with us, is our heart fixed upon Jesus, is the sacrifice bound with
cords to the horns of the altar? Have we counted the cost, and are we
solemnly ready to suffer all worldly loss for the Master's sake? The after
gain will be an abundant recompense, for Egypt's treasures are not to be
compared with the glory to be revealed. Orpah is heard of no more; in
glorious ease and idolatrous pleasure her life melts into the gloom of
death; but Ruth lives in history and in heaven, for grace has placed her in
the noble line whence sprung the King of kings. Blessed among women shall
those be who for Christ's sake can renounce all; but forgotten and worse
than forgotten shall those be who in the hour of temptation do violence to
conscience and turn back unto the world. O that this morning we may not be
content with the form of devotion, which may be no better than Orpah's
kiss, but may the Holy Spirit work in us a cleaving of our whole heart to

"And lay thy foundations with sapphires."-Isaiah 54:11

Not only that which is seen of the church of God, but that which is unseen,
is fair and precious. Foundations are out of sight, and so long as they are
firm it is not expected that they should be valuable; but in Jehovah's work
everything is of a piece, nothing slurred, nothing mean. The deep
foundations of the work of grace are as sapphires for preciousness, no
human mind is able to measure their glory. We build upon the covenant of
grace, which is firmer than adamant, and as enduring as jewels upon which
age spends itself in vain. Sapphire foundations are eternal, and the
covenant abides throughout the lifetime of the Almighty. Another foundation
is the person of the Lord Jesus, which is clear and spotless, everlasting
and beautiful as the sapphire; blending in one the deep blue of earth's
ever rolling ocean and the azure of its all embracing sky. Once might our
Lord have been likened to the ruby as He stood covered with His own blood,
but now we see Him radiant with the s!
oft blue of love, love abounding, deep, eternal. Our eternal hopes are
built upon the justice and the faithfulness of God, which are clear and
cloudless as the sapphire. We are not saved by a compromise, by mercy
defeating justice, or law suspending its operations; no, we defy the
eagle's eye to detect a flaw in the groundwork of our confidence-our
foundation is of sapphire, and will endure the fire.

The Lord Himself has laid the foundation of His people's hopes. It is
matter for grave enquiry whether our hopes are built upon such a basis.
Good works and ceremonies are not a foundation of sapphires, but of wood,
hay, and stubble; neither are they laid by God, but by our own conceit.
Foundations will all be tried ere long: woe unto him whose lofty tower
shall come down with a crash, because based on a quicksand. He who is built
on sapphires may await storm or fire with equanimity, for he shall abide
the test.

Giving Christ every day of the week
December 16, 2011
"You shall have no other gods before me."
Exodus 20:3
So often people will ask me, "Pastor, what's wrong with the Church
today?" Now, I believe that every generation has problems in their
church, but one of the biggest challenges we face today in our worship
is this: Jesus is just a "Sunday god" for many Christians.
You see, many believers today have idols that compete for their
attention. There are other things that they worship, serve, and love
more than Jesus Christ. But in order to truly turn to God and to
receive the salvation that He has promised, they must be willing for
God to cleanse them and to remove all of those idols that are in their
lives.
Many times, I'll hear people say things like, "Jesus Christ is number
one in my life." But let me tell you, Jesus doesn't just want to be
number one in your life among many other things that you serve and
worship. No, He wants to be the only one in your life… your
all-consuming everything!
Do you focus your life on Christ every day of the week? Or, is Jesus
just a "Sunday god" for you among many more? Make Jesus Christ Lord
over every aspect of your life and watch Him transform you from the
inside out!

DON'T LET JESUS JUST BECOME A "SUNDAY GOD" FOR YOU. SERVE HIM EVERY
DAY AND GIVE HIM RULE AND REIGN OVER EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE.

Divine Expulsion

Thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots,

It is a great encouragement to valor to be assured of victory, for
then a man goes forth to war in confidence and ventures where else he
had been afraid to go. Our warfare is with evil within us and around
us, and we ought to be persuaded that we are able to get the victory
and that we shall do so in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are not
riding for a fall, but to win; and win we shall. The grace of God in
its omnipotence is put forth for the overflow of evil in every form:
hence the certainty of triumph.
Certain of our sins find chariots of iron in our constitution, our
former habits, our associations, and our occupations. Nevertheless we
must overcome them. They are very strong, and in reference to them we
are very weak; yet in the name of God we must master them, and we
will. If one sin has dominion of us we are not the Lord's free men. A
man who is held by only one chain is still a captive. There is no
going to heaven with one sin ruling within us, for of the saints it is
said, "Sin shall not have dominion over you." Up, then, and slay every
Canaanite, and break to shivers every chariot of iron! The Lord of
hosts is with us, and who shall resist His sin-destroying power?

O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL!
Psalm 98:4, 9-10
"Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth in song,
rejoice, and sing Let the rivers clap their hands; Let the hills be
joyful together before the LORD."

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel is probably the oldest Christmas carol we
still sing today. The words were thought to have been penned before
800 A.D. While the writer is unknown, he was evidently a scholar with
a deep knowledge of both the Old and New Testaments. It seems to
present the various prophetic roles Jesus fulfilled when He was on
earth.
One of the many tragedies connected with modern music is that our
hymns are being neglected and belittled. Deep spiritual meaning is
being replaced with words and music that is unclean. This hymn is a
prayer for the Lord to come and rescue us from our deplorable
condition. How sad that at best, we may only hear this hymn once a
year. I pray that the Lord will come into our jaded lives.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.

Affliction
"It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your
decrees." Psalm 119:71

Look back on your life and view the times you were afflicted. Did they
serve a purpose in your life? Did they draw you into your Father's
presence? Did they turn your affections from the things of this earth
to that which was eternal? Did they teach you that you could trust
your Father? Did God bring forth self-control or patience in your life
as a result of affliction? Did you learn to submit as a result of
being broken? Did God teach you when you were lonely that His company
was more precious than any other? Were you able to feel a special
fellowship with your Savior when a loved one betrayed you? Has God
drawn you closer to Himself through affliction? I know that He has
done that in my life. I have come to know God through the afflictions
that I have faced. I have learned that I have a faithful Father who is
always there for me. I have tasted of His love and I have learned His
decrees. Afflictions are not something I would choose for my life, but
I
know that they have made me stronger and drawn me closer to my Father
and I do not regret any of them.
Father, thank You for the afflictions that You have placed in my life.
They have changed me and I am grateful for that. They have taught me
that You are faithful and that I can trust You in all the areas of my
life. I thank You for them and pray that I might always learn quickly
what You have for me to learn that I might become more like You, my
beloved Father. Amen.

Where will God go to touch the world? What a great thought and even
better question.
It's that time of year when we hear about the virgin birth. And yet,
it's more, much more, that a Christmas story. It's a story of how
close Christ will come to you.

The first step on his itinerary was a womb. Where will God go to
touch the world? Look deep within Mary for an answer. Better still,
look deep within yourself.
"Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col. 1:27 NIV).

Christ grew in Mary until he had to come out. Christ will grow in you
until the same occurs. He will come out in your speech, in your
actions, in your decisions. Every place you live will be a Bethlehem,
and every day you live will be a Christmas. You, like Mary, will
deliver Christ into the world.

Devotional For Dieters 12/16

Psalm 68:19
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God
of our salvation. Selah.

Doris stood at the window, watching the first heavy snow cover
everything outside with a blanket of white. She sipped a cup of tea
and reflected on the year quickly fleeting. So many good things had
happened. Certainly there had been bad, too, but mostly it was good.
She couldn't imagine why she was so blessed as to have so many things
going her way. The Lord had looked kindly on her this year. She had
never felt so healthy and good. The year had seen weight loss every
month. She finally was beginning to look like she'd always dreamed she
could. The Lord could take credit for that, too. There was no way
Doris could have done so well if God hadn't strengthened her.

Today's thought: I gladly receive all the benefits the Lord has to
give, as long as they're not fattening!

Our Own Little Bethlehem - #6505

There's just no better time to have a baby boy than Christmastime. My
parents did, we did. Not my wife and me! That would really be a
Christmas miracle! No, it was our son and daughter-in-law.
And our family was able to say, with the ancient prophecy of Jesus'
coming, "to us a child is born; to us a son is given" (Isaiah 9:6).
And what a baby boy he was, charging into the world at ten pounds, ten
ounces!
I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Our
Own Little Bethlehem."
The parents decided to hold off on announcing Christmas-boy's name
until he was born, so we didn't know. And they gave him a strong Bible
name for a first name. But it was his middle name that melted me into
a puddle. It's my brother's name; the one who died suddenly when I was
only four years old; the baby who brought Jesus to our family.
I was a baby boy born at Christmastime, too, but into a family who
knew little or nothing about Jesus. I never heard about Him. In our
little second-floor apartment on the south side of Chicago, there was
as in the Christmas story, "no room" for Jesus. There was room for
gambling and arguing and drinking, but we were spiritually nowhere.
Then came the night my only sibling, my baby brother, was rushed to
the hospital, and he never came home. My dad's heart broke. And in his
grief, he decided he should take his four-year-old son to church. Oh,
he didn't go in; he just stayed in the car and read his Sunday paper
and smoked his cigarette. One Sunday I came bounding out of that
church, and I said, "Daddy, today I accepted Jesus into my heart." I
don't think he had any idea what I was talking about, but the
following Christmas Eve he got it. That night my father went to church
there and he came out with Jesus in his heart, too. My mom soon
followed. And Jesus became the center of our life in that little
apartment, and I got a brand new mommy and daddy all because of a baby
who died.
As I understand the Bible, my little brother's in heaven. But his mom
and dad and brother were headed for a different destination. He was
the only one in our family who was ready to die. My whole family
believed then, and believes now, that my baby brother was sent by God
to lead us to Jesus. And over the years, it has been my privilege to
be there as many thousands of folks have found the same Jesus that
changed my family and changed our eternities forever.
Because of that baby, because of the mission he accomplished, all my
children belong to Jesus. And so do all their children who are old
enough to welcome Jesus into their heart as I did. One of my children
was right then, the father of a brand new, hours-old baby boy. The
baby I looked at across the hospital room. The baby who bears the name
of the baby God used to give me Jesus.
I can't answer all those hard questions about why God allows suffering
and pain in the world. But I can tell you how God used the seemingly
"senseless" death of a baby to help me, my family and ultimately
countless others be in heaven someday.
We experienced the truth of that wonderful word from God's Word, our
word for today from John 1:12 - "He came unto His own. His own did not
receive Him, but to as many as received Him, to them He gave the power
to become the children of God, even to those who believe in His name."
Born into His family because of the baby who was born in Bethlehem,
and in our case, the baby who was born that led us to Him.
I wonder if you've ever had that birthday? I wonder if you've ever
come to know this Jesus? He's brought you down a journey; brought you
down a road that has brought you to listen to the radio and come to
this point this day because this is the day He is ready to come into
your heart. If you hear Him knocking, open the door.

**I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity.( Joel 2:28, HCSB

*What are some evidences of the Spirit-filled life? How do we know when we
are fully indwelt by the divine Paraclete?

I am not going to begin where you might expect, in the area of spiritual
gifts, but in a realm believe to be equally important yet seldom mentioned.
I refer to the area of the subconscious. The longer I live, the more I feel
the church has missed its way here. We have talked much about the works of
the Spirit on the conscious level but little of His work at a subconscious
level. We have failed to see, generally speaking, that part of the work of
the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian is to project His power and
presence into the depths of the personality - even the subconscious.

We are told that about one-tenth of the mind is conscious and the other
nine-tenths subconscious. Like the iceberg, which is nine-tenths submerged,
life is largely lived in the submerged part of our being. Now, if this is
so, then it becomes evident at once that if the submerged ninetenths is not
working with the conscious purposes of the one-tenth, then there is going
to be a serious division, and a division this serious becomes divisive.
Whatever controls the nine-tenths greatly influences the one-tenth. The
Holy Spirit wants to project Himself into that submerged part of our being
in order to harness those untamed forces and make them work for us and not
against us. Then the subconscious is no longer an enemy but a friend.

O God, my Father, I am grateful that You have provided for my deepest need
- the need of unifying and controlling the depths within me. My heart
tingles at the thought that I can be unified - on the inside. Thank You,
Father. Amen.*

Economic forecasts look dim. Unemployment is high. Too many families to
count have lost their homes in the mortgage crisis. Thinking about the
future can elicit anxiety. We worry. This worry can steal our
consciousness, rob us of daily peace and contentment. Thinking negatively
about our future is self-destructive. Thinking positively about our future
energizes us and gives us direction and enthusiasm. Even if the near future
looks dark and dim, we have the Bible's promise that the ultimate
future—God's promised future—will be so bright that the New Jerusalem will
not even need the sun for light. If the streets of the New Jerusalem are
paved with gold, then what's a little poverty in the present? "Have no
anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6).

*God of comfort, protect us from the grip of anxiety and liberate us from
the chains of worry. Strengthen us to live in daily confidence and
contentment. Amen. *

*Sensing sin*

*But the children of Israel committed a trespass regarding the accursed
things...so the anger of the LORD burned against the children of Israel.
Joshua 7:1 (NKJV)*

*The seventh chapter in Joshua stands as a powerful warning of sin's
infectious effects. In short, it tells the story of a man named Achan and
how his personal act of disobedience caused a national crisis. *

*Israel had begun its conquest of the Promised Land, and one city after
another fell in their path, including Jericho. And it was there that God
specifically commanded the Israelites to not touch or take any of the
victory spoils, which is exactly what Achan did. He secretly snagged a few
pieces of silver, a wedge of gold, and a Babylonian garment, and he buried
them under his tent. God saw this and removed His hand of protection from
His people. *

*Joshua, Israel's commander, was unaware of what Achan had done, and went
ahead with an invasion of Ai, which ended in disaster. Joshua couldn't
figure it out. Why had they been defeated like this? Had God forsaken them?
Notice what happens when Joshua falls on his face and gets alone with God: *

*So the LORD said to Joshua... "Israel has sinned, and they have also
transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken
some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived..." (Joshua
7:10-11 NKJV) *

*In his solitude with the Lord, Joshua discovered that there was a serious
sin issue in Israel. Sin was brought to light and eventually dealt with.
But please note that it was one-on-one time with the Holy One that got
things going in the right direction. *

*This example can carry over into our lives, as well. When our lives are
consumed with people and relationships, it's often hard to discern sin's
presence in our hearts. But when we are set apart and in the holy presence
of God, we become more sensitive to sin that needs to be dealt with. *

*Think About It? What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does
this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I
need to make?
*

*Remain In My Love*

*John 15:10, NIV: "If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love,
just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love."*

*How can we experience the love of someone we are not near--not close too?
How can we hear the voice of someone speaking to us if we are not within
distance to hear? How can we know the plans and intents of God's heart for
us, if we do not take time to get as close to Him as we can get? To remain
in His love is something that surely we all long for. It is a place wherein
we find His comfort, peace, and the fullness of His joy. It is a place
wherein we find guidance, purpose, and understanding of the place we are at
in life on this earth. We cannot know the fullness of what He has for us,
if we do not remain in Him. And we cannot remain in Him, if we do not keep
His commands. We cannot remain in Him, if we do not draw near to Him, pray
to Him, and spend adequate time in His Word as a priority of our
livelihood--seeing Him as the truest necessity of our living.*

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

Mae sat by the window of her apartment, watching the children playing
in the snow below. She wished she could have fun like that once more.
Even the companionship and feeling of belonging would be nice. At
present, all she had was her cat, Morgan, and he wasn't much for
conversation.

Mae was shaken from her reverie by a knock at the door. As she opened
it, she was met by the greetings of her neighbors from one floor
below. Bearing gifts of food and drink, they asked if they might come
in to share the evening with her. Glowing with a warmth long
forgotten, Mae invited them in to celebrate a new, blossoming
friendship.

We have been given the power to bring joy to the lives of others. In
this season of God's gift of joy to us, we ought to think of ways that
we might spread happiness to those who have little to be happy about.
God heals the broken hearts of His children, often through His
servants: you and me. Reach out in love to heal the wounds of
loneliness and despair.

Prayer: Make me an agent of Your love and care, Father. Send me forth
with a message of mercy and joy. Use me to heal the emotional wounds
of my neighbors. Amen.

GOD IS ALMIGHTY
"Sir," the women said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is
deep. Where can you get this living water?" John 4:11How much we
resemble the Samaritan woman at the well. She was engrossed with the
teaching, tradition and customs in which she had grown up and been
taught. When Jesus asked, "Will you give me a drink?" she looked
"within" and her answer was from her finite understanding and her
cultural upbringing. To this Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of
God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him
and he would have given you living water."

Still mystified and bewildered she says, "Sir, you have nothing to
draw with and the well is deep." She had no idea who Jesus was nor the
power of His infinite resources.

All too often we find ourselves living "within" the boundaries of our
making. We limit God by trying to understand the magnitude of His
infinity with the limitations of our finite minds. God does not expect
nor desire that we "understand" His ways or thoughts, for He said,
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my
ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your
thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

We face alarming circumstances and we shutter in unbelief as we seek
to understand with frustrating misgivings. We are like the Samaritan
woman that had no concept of the mighty power or the infinite
resources of Jesus who asked her for a drink of water. We limit God by
relying upon "our" concept of who God is. We revere Him within our
human understanding, who we think He is and what He can do. We are
like Job. We "have heard Him by the hearing of the ear." We have been
taught, we have read the Word, we have acknowledged Christ as
Savior...but He has never penetrated our hearts by His transforming
power. Job said, "now my eyes have seen you" (Job 42:5). The scales
were removed from his eyes and he now sees God in His majesty and as
his Almighty God. What a radical change this made in his life.

One of our great needs today is that we have lost our concept of who
God is. A. W. Tozer speaks very clearly on this: "The church has
surrendered the once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it
one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking,
worshiping men. With our loss of the sense of majesty has come further
loss of religious awe and consciousness of the divine presence. We
have lost our spirit and our ability to withdraw inwardly to meet God
in adoring silence to 'Be still and know that I am God.'"

The alarming result is that we have formed a concept of God that
brings Him down to our "life-style" and "use" Him at our own
discretion. How far from the truth can we get! How ungodly.

God is Almighty. He is all-powerful. He is all-knowing, present
everywhere all the time, full of infinite love, grace and mercy. Our
deficient spiritual lives can be attributed to this one insipid
concept of God...not knowing, not believing, and not relying on the
greatness of our God. We need to open our hearts and lives to the
reality that our GOD IS ALMIGHTY. Our lives need to be surrendered to
His lordship, control and authority so we will be governed not by
"our" resources but by the might and power of Almighty God. We need to
be connected to the Almighty power plant...God Himself! Until we have
this concept of God we will live on the perimeter of all God wants to
be and do in our lives. Draw from the well that never runs dry...His
everlasting refreshing spring.

Set Your House In Order

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the
son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set
thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Isaiah 38:1

The Lord sent the prophet Isaiah to King Hezekiah when he was sick to
tell him to get his house in order because he was going to die. Our
word this morning is.. set your house in order. I am not saying that
the Lord has told me you are going to die, none of us know when that
time will come. We aren't promised tomorrow, it could happen today.
Jesus told us our time was always at hand.

Setting our house in order is something that we should attend to
everyday. Each day I make sure the physical house that I live in is
in order, it's not full of trash, cluttered, dirty, things work
properly and it's not in disarray. How much more important is it that
I make sure daily that my heart house" is in order. We should never
neglect to make sure that all is well.

How do we get our house in order? First, we make sure that we have a
relationship with God through the blood of Jesus Christ. After that
we make sure our house is in order by confessing and repenting of any
known sin. We ask the Lord to search us and see if there is any
wicked way in us. We don't neglect so great a salvation, we work out
our salvation with fear
and trembling, we make sure we love the Lord with all our heart and
not have any
other Gods before Him.

I need to make sure daily that there is nothing in my life that is
displeasing to the Lord,
nothing that will hinder my relationship with Him, nothing that will
come between us when I stand before Him. I need to make sure that
daily I walk before Him with clean hands and a pure heart. Daily I
need to make sure that He occupies the throne of my heart and
I decrease so that He can increase. It's in this way that I make
sure my heart
house is in order. Are you doing that? We must do it and not neglect it.
It would be bad for Him to come and find our house out of order.

Have a great day. Make sure everyday that your house is in order. Is
it today?

"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon
you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give
you peace." Numbers 6:24-26

Confronting Evil

Read Psalm 139:19-22
Many people are bothered by the problem of evil. They say, "If God is
a loving and good God, why does He allow evil?" David did not ignore
this problem, nor did he give in to it. Instead, he made a decision
and took his stand with God. Only our God can permit evil and be able
to overrule it to accomplish His purposes. As David confronted the
problem of evil in the world, he did so in stages.
Stage one: He evaluated (v. 22). David looked at the wicked, violent,
blasphemous, deceitful and rebellious crowd. He showed courage and
honesty in taking his stand against them. When we start asking
ourselves, Is it safe? or, Is it popular? we have moved away from
biblical ethics and integrity.
Stage two: He grieved (v. 21). God the Father grieves (Gen. 6:6); God
the Son grieves (Mark 3:5); and God the Holy Spirit grieves (Eph.
4:30) over sin. We also ought to grieve over sin. When Nehemiah heard
that the walls of Jerusalem were destroyed, he sat and wept (Neh.
1:4). Today, we need people who will sit down long enough to weep over
sin.
Stage three: He hated (vv. 21,22). We could use a little more holy
anger today. Christians sometimes are too bland, too complacent and
too comfortable. Edmund Burke said, "All that is required for evil to
triumph is for good men to do nothing." Love and hate are not
contradictory when dealing with sin. Jesus showed both compassion
toward sinners and hatred of sin.
Stage four: He decided (v. 19). David decided to separate himself from
evil (Ps. 119:115). We need to stand among sinners as the salt of the
earth and the light of the world, but we need to have contact without
contamination.
Stage five: He trusted (v. 19). We must leave vengeance with God; He
will punish the wicked (Rom. 12:19). Our job is to give ourselves to
Him and do the work He wants us to do.

If you fail to make a decision, the world will make it for you. Take
your stand with God and use David's experience as a guide for
confronting the problem of evil. Determine to live a holy life that
honors the Lord.

God's Nobody

Amos 1-3, Revelation 6

My hometown had only one building, which contained the train station,
general store, gas station and post office. I used to say that it was
"just five miles south of resume speed." There's something about
coming from a small town that makes you feel insignificant.
I'm sure Amos was like that. He came from the tiny village of Tekoa.
If you rode your donkey south out of Jerusalem you soon came to
Bethlehem. If you rode six miles further, you came to Tekoa. And if
you rode even further you came to nothing. Tekoa was a frontier town,
on the edge of the harsh Judean wilderness.
There, Amos was a shepherd. He was not the mayor of the town; he was a
sheep breeder. He was a nobody.
Still, God came to this nobody and called him to become His servant
and spokesman. (Read Amos 7:14-15.) Amos wasn't eloquent nor was he
educated. But he was available and he wholly obeyed the Lord. Eleven
times in his tiny book Amos says, "Thus says the LORD . . . "
Maybe God has something special for you to do too. It doesn't matter
what you are now; it only matters what He intends to make of you. Be
available. Be clean. Be ready. You may be His next Amos.
"God, make me the kind of person who is clean and pure before You, so
that if You have some special task for me to do, I will be ready,
willing and able to do it."

How Big Is God?
Years ago when the city fathers of New York contemplated the future
growth of their city, they plotted the streets and numbered them from
the center outward. At the time, New York consisted of only six or
seven streets. In their planning maps, they projected how large they
thought the city might grow. Reaching beyond their wildest
imagination, they drew streets on the map all the way out to a 19th
street. They called it "Boundary Street" because they were sure that
was as large as New York City would become. But history proved them to
be shortsighted. At last count, the metropolis had reached beyond
284th Street.
Solomon labored under no such delusions when it came to God. He had
built the largest man-made structure in Israel. (Interior dimensions
of the temple were at least 90 feet long, 30 feet wide and 45 feet
high, according to 1 Kings 6:2.) Yet this builder-king knew that even
the heaven of heavens was unable to contain God, not to mention a
building. God was far larger than anything Solomon could build.
In our desire to be intimate with God, we often try to shrink Him down
to a size we're comfortable with. If God were too big, so our thinking
goes, His awesomeness would threaten to overwhelm us. Therefore, we
are prone to think of God in the small, cuddly size--someone little
enough to fit in our back pocket. Yet in doing so, we miss the comfort
of knowing a God who is greater than any challenge life may set before
us, a God so majestic and exalted that everything else shrivels up
into nothingness in comparison.
Instead of downsizing God, let your imagination go and contemplate His
true size. Imagine His filling the whole universe. Picture His
reaching out to the farthest stars and even then spilling over into
the outermost limits of space. Then kneel before Him and confess that,
even so, your vision is still too small.
The universe is big; God is bigger.

Prayer and the Trinity
John 14:12-17
Each member of the Trinity has a distinct role in prayer.
The Father waits at the throne of grace to hear the prayers of us who
trust His Son. The Lord Jesus Christ is our Advocate in the presence
of God the Father. The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, is the Advocate
in our hearts, teaching us to pray.
We can view it from another position. The Holy Spirit in us prepares
the case we need to make. Christ pleads that case before the Judge.
God the Father, as the Judge, hears the case.
So we pray to the Father through the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer is not something natural. Prayer to God is not the same as
communion with our family or friends. It is on a spiritual level and
goes beyond the natural and the physical.
The Son receives from the Father and reveals for our benefit what God
wants us to know. But the Holy Spirit within us acts as an interpreter
of spiritual truths.
Christ's unceasing intercession for us is indispensable. We need this
in order to receive that which the Father has planned for us.
But just as essential is the intercession of the Spirit within us,
praying for these things in our behalf and accepting from the Son what
the Father desires to provide us with.
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye
will, and it shall be done unto you" (John 15:7).
