Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, have added a
Montecito-area property to their real estate holdings, reports the Montecito
Journal.

The couple spent $8,875,000 on an ocean-view villa on 1.5 acres with a
swimming pool, spa and fountains, a real estate source familiar with the
deal confirms. The Italian-style house has six fireplaces, five bedrooms and
nine bathrooms.

Little girl died in cot after flu jab

THE bereaved father of a toddler who died within a day of receiving the
seasonal flu vaccine said last night that he could not believe this was
coincidental.

David Epapara spoke out after the Queensland Coroner was called in to
investigate the little girl's death, which has intensified concern at the
risk of side effects from the vaccine to children under five.

Two-year-old Ashley Epapara was found dead in her cot on April 9, the
morning after she and her twin sister were inoculated by the family GP in
Brisbane.

Mr Epapara told The Australian yesterday that both children had been
"perfectly fine" until they received the combined jab for seasonal flu and
swine flu.

Today Salem-News reports that a joint experiment by Russia's National
Association for Gene Security and the Institute of Ecological and
Evolutional Problems has revealed that hamsters fed genetically modified
(GM) foods produce grandchildren that are unable to produce fourth
generation offspring. Scientist Alexei Surov described the experiment, in
which they monitored the behavior, weight gain and birthrate of several
groups of hamsters. Upon birth of the second generation they noted slower
rates of growth and sexual maturity. The next generation was unable to
produce[1]. Genetically modified foods will feed the hungry. I guess that's
one way of putting it. You could also call it population control.
Technically, the final result would be an end to world hunger. They didn't
lie. Who are they? Please refer to my Salem-News story "While We Were
Sleeping...GM Food and the Brink of No Return". Russian scientists are not
the only ones that have warned of noted health effects caused by genetically
modified foods. Let us not forget that the scientists that were fired after
they discovered serious health effects in animals after feeding them GM food

Iceland Volcanic Eruption May Ignite Geological Chain Reaction

April 15 (Bloomberg) -- The Icelandic volcano that erupted for the second
time in four weeks may ignite a geological chain reaction with another
volcano nearby, potentially extending a disruption to air traffic as ash
plumes block flight paths.

The Eyjafjallajokull volcano in southern Iceland is adjacent to the Katla
volcano, increasing the risk of a second eruption, said Ármann Höskuldsson,
a volcanologist at the Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of
Iceland. The Eyjafjallajokull last erupted in 1821 and remained active for
two years, according to the researcher.

"It is a beautiful volcano, but not when it's erupting," Höskuldsson said.
"It might be better tomorrow, but it could take a few days."

Iceland sits on an oceanic ridge in the Atlantic that provides a continuous
flow of magma, keeping the crust warm and providing natural energy. Iceland
has more than 200 volcanoes and more than 600 hot springs. The volcano,
located in a thinly populated part of Iceland, will likely spew ashes for a
couple of days before lava emerges, according to the university.

The island is home to 320,000 residents. Settlers arrived in Iceland around
874 on sail-powered wooden longships. The country came under Norwegian
control in 1262 and then under Danish dominion in 1380. It gained autonomy
90 years ago and became fully independent from Denmark in 1944. Iceland made
headlines in the last year after its financial system cratered.

Wandering Plume

The extent and duration of the ash plume depends on weather conditions and
the length of the eruption, said Sarah Holland, a spokeswoman for the U.K.
Met Office. The band of ash now covers most of Norway, Scotland, northern
and central England, as well as parts of Ireland, Sweden, Finland and
Russia, according to the Met Office's volcanic ash advisory service.

The plume is projected to spread east and south, extending over most of the
British Isles, Scandinavia, the Benelux countries, Germany, Poland, the
Czech Republic and the Baltic states of eastern Europe over the next day, as
well as parts of northern France and western Russia.

The ash will affect flight traffic as long as the thick plume is lingering
at heights of between six and 10 kilometers, Höskuldsson said. European,
U.S., and Asian air traffic was heavily disrupted today, with the U.K and
Norway suspending all flights as the volcanic ash poses a risk of engine
malfunction and impairment of cabin air quality.

link the drawdown in Afghanistan to his effort to reach out to Muslims

law forces the local police to question people about their immigration

don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that SB1070 makes racial
profiling and discrimination the law of the land in the state of the former

AMERICA'S POLICY TOWARDS ISRAEL OFFICIALLY SHIFTS

The New York Times Makes It Official: Obama Has Shifted U.S. Policy Against
Israel [Excerpts]

The New York Times officially proclaimed the administration's changed
attitude in a front-page story [April 14, 2010] that ought to send chills
down the spine of anyone who believed Barack Obama when he pledged in 2008
that he would be a loyal friend of Israel.

In the view of the paper's Washington correspondents, the moment that
signaled what had already been apparent to anyone who was paying attention
was the president's declaration at a Tuesday news conference that resolving
the Middle East conflict was "a vital national security interest of the
United States." Mr. Obama went on to state that the conflict is "costing us
significantly in terms of blood and treasure," thus attempting to draw a
link between Israel's attempts to defend itself with the safety of American
troops who are fighting Islamist terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan and
elsewhere in the world. By claiming the Arab-Israeli conflict to be a "vital
national security interest" that must be resolved, the "frustrated" Obama is
making it clear that he will push hard to impose a solution on the

The significance of this false argument is that it not only seeks to wrongly
put the onus on Israel for the lack of a peace agreement but that it also
now attempts to paint any Israeli refusal to accede to Obama's demands as a
betrayal in which a selfish Israel is stabbing America in the back. The
response from Obama to this will be, the Times predicts, "tougher policies
toward Israel," since it is, in this view, ignoring America's interests and
even costing American lives.

The problem with this policy is that the basic premise behind it is false.
Islamists may hate Israel, but that is not why they are fighting the United
States. They are fighting America because they rightly see the West and its
culture, values, and belief in democracy as antithetical to their own
beliefs and a threat to its survival and growth as they seek to impose their
medieval system everywhere they can. Americans are not dying because
Israelis want to live in Jerusalem or even the West Bank or even because
there is an Israel. If Israel were to disappear tomorrow, that catastrophe
would certainly be cheered in the Arab and Islamic world, but it would not
end the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, cause Iran to stop its nuclear program,
or put al-Qaeda out of business. In fact, a defeat for a country allied with
the United States would strengthen Iran and al-Qaeda.

But undeterred by the facts and the experience of a generation of failed
peace plans that have always foundered not on Israeli intransigence but
rather on the absolute refusal of any Palestinian leader to put his
signature on a document that will legitimize a Jewish state within any
borders, Obama is pushing ahead.
