My unborn niece has got a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Her organs
have moved up into her chest preventing her lungs from fully
developing. Her lungs are a third of the size that they supposed to
be. Her liver is also enlarged because her heart has to work overtime
to keep her alive. This could lead to heart faliure. My brother and
his wife are devastated. Please pray for her that God will heal her
and grow her lungs! We dont want to lose her. Thank you and God bless!

"An argument started among the disciples as to which of them
would be the greatest. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little
child and made him stand beside him. Then he said to them, "Whoever
welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever
welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among
you all--he is the greatest." Luke 9:46-48

Jesus used a child to demonstrate the principles by which His
Kingdom operated. Those values would turn worldly standards upside
down. Jesus provided the greatest example. He served and honoured us,
unworthy sinners, by obeying God in suffering for us on the cross.
Greatness is measured in sacrificial service. So, one of the best ways
of showing friends and colleagues what following Christ means, is to
be humble enough to serve them and even to serve those people whom
they despise.

Story of God's Love

Liz Cobos had separated from her husband. She was emotionally devastated,
and the reality of keeping her two preschool daughters fed and cared for had
all but shattered her spirit. She believed in God, but where was He? She
felt so alone… Reluctantly, she decided to file for financial aid, until she
could find a job.

However, the paperwork would take some time, and a few days later, Liz
realized that she had no money, and no food in the cupboards. She checked
her purse and pockets just in case, but there was no money anywhere, no way
to buy even a small bag of groceries. "I sent the girls next door because I
knew my nice neighbor would feed them," she recalls. "Then I sat on the
couch and cried." God, please, just a little help ... just enough to buy
some groceries for the next week… As Liz wept, five-year-old Crystal came
back into the apartment. "Mommy, what's the matter?" she asked.

Liz didn't want Crystal to see her crying. "Nothing, honey. Why don't you go
outside and do something?"

"Like what?" Crystal persisted.

"Oh…" Liz wiped her eyes. "Why don't you take out the garbage? That would be
a big help."

"Okay!" Crystal took the garbage bag and headed out the door and down to the
apartment complex dumpsters. A moment later, she was back. "Mommy, can I
keep this plastic egg that I found in the dump? I can put my Barbie doll
clothes in it."

"No, honey," Liz murmured absently. "You're not supposed to bring things in
from the garbage. It might be dirty…"

"It's not, Mommy. Please? I'll keep the egg and you can keep the money in
it."

Liz's heart seemed to stop. "What money?"

"Here," Crystal said, and she pulled four twenty dollar bills out of the
egg. Liz stared at the bills. The dumpsters were huge—there was no possibly
way she could find the owner of those bills. Did God mean them for her?
Hadn't she asked? "I will never leave you nor forsake you…" The comforting
words from the Bible washed over her, and she understood.

"The money bought us groceries until my aid came through," Liz says. "I
found a job, and things are much better today, but I've never forgotten that
moment, and the reassurance it brought me." It wasn't so much the money
itself, she says, but the certainty that God was near and caring for her,
answering her prayer in His own way, in His own time. "Nothing is impossible
with Him."

MEMORIAL, ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA, PRIEST
SATURDAY 17TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR II

JEREMIAH 26:11-16, 24
The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the
people, 'This man deserves to die, since he has prophesied against
this city, as you have heard with your own ears.' Jeremiah, however,
replied to all the chief men and all the people as follows, 'Yahweh
himself sent me to prophesy against this Temple and this city all the
things you have heard. So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen
to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh will relent about the
disaster that he has decreed for you. For myself, I am, as you see, in
your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me. But be sure
of this, that if you put me to death, you will be bringing innocent
blood on yourselves, on this city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh
has truly sent me to you to say all this for you to hear.' The chief
men and all the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This
man does not deserve to die: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh
our God.' But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he
was not handed over to the people to be put to death.

MATTHEW 14:1-12
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the reputation of Jesus
and said to his court, 'This is John the Baptist himself; he has risen
from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.'
Now it was Herod who had arrested John, chained him up and put him in
prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. For John had
told him, 'It is against the Law for you to have her.' He had wanted
to kill him but was afraid of the people, who regarded John as a
prophet. Then, during the celebrations for Herod's birthday, the
daughter of Herodias danced before the company and so delighted Herod
that he promised on oath to give her anything she asked. Prompted by
her mother she said, 'Give me John the Baptist's head, here, on a
dish.' The king was distressed but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn
and of his guests, he ordered it to be given her, and sent and had
John beheaded in the prison. The head was brought in on a dish and
given to the girl, who took it to her mother. John's disciples came
and took the body and buried it; then they went off to tell Jesus.

REFLECTION
Jeremiah and John the Baptist both proclaimed what they believed was
true no matter the risk to their lives. One was spared, the other
beheaded, both in the course of doing God's work.

Why does our Lord allow this to happen? Why does one live and the
other die? Is it because in His omnipotence, God grants the greatest
respect to man's worth by giving "free will" the widest room to
operate despite the consequences?

The officials, people, and yes, Herod, all were free to choose life or
death for the prophets.

In our worship life, how many times and to what degree were we
challenged to stand by our God? How did we do?

In this complicated world, we are frequently confronted with difficult
choices that bring us closer to or farther away from God. Let us pray
fervently for the gifts of wisdom and fortitude so that we can make
and execute the right choices.

CASTLES IN THE SAND

Matthew 6:19,21 "Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths
eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also
be."

Castles in the Sand

Before the sun was up too high in the heavens, and it was hotter than
blue blazes, my grandaughter and I ventured down to the beach.

Right away we noticed a beautiful sandcastle! It had survived the
night somehow. Even though it was intricate and had obviously taken
some time to do, the rising morning tide would surely wash it away.

We can build our lives on many things. Possessions, money, business,
identity. They will all, one day, be washed away. We didn't bring
anything into this world, and we can't take anything out of it –
except our relationship with the Lord. That is forever.

I thought about an action Sunday school song the kids used to sing
( Luke 6:47-79 ) -
The wise man built his house upon the rock… ……and the rain came
tumbling down. The rain came down and the floods came up….…. and the
wise man's house stood firm.
But- the foolish man built his house upon the sand…., and the rain
came tumbling down. The rain came down and the floods came …, …..and
the foolish man's house went SPLAT!!
So -build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ.........and the blessings
will come down. The blessings come down and the prayers go
up........so- build your life on the Lord!!

As beautiful as the sandcastles of our lives may be, they are still
just that, castles in the sand. How awesome we can build our lives on
the love and faithfulness of the Lord and the principles of His Word-
a rock solid foundation.

That is good news.

MORE FLEECE -- Judges 6:39-40 NIV

Then Gideon said to God, "Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more
request. Allow me one more test with the fleece. This time make the fleece
dry and the ground covered with dew." That night God did so. Only the
fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.

Gideon was obviously a practical man, not to mention a man lacking in faith.
Even though his fleece had been wetter than any fleece had ever been from
the morning dew, Gideon decided that he might have set himself up for
failure. His logic said that fleece takes longer to dry than the ground
around it, so, just possibly, he had only been witness to a natural
occurrence. And Gideon - not one to get in a big hurry - wanted to be
absolutely sure that He was doing what God wanted him to do. So he asked
for confirmation. He asked that, this time, the fleece be dry and the
ground around it be wet, just to confirm that he was headed in the right
direction. And the next morning, the fleece was dry as a bone, and the
ground around it was wet!

Even though Gideon's faith was weak. even though God had already given him
more than enough confirmation. even though Gideon just needed "one more
sign". God had patience with him and gave him the sign he asked for.

Many times the Lord wants us to step out on faith, giving us our
confirmation of His will after we have acted. Look at Moses. When God told
him to go to Egypt and lead the people out, God said Moses would receive his
sign after they were safely out of Egypt. (Exodus

3:12 NIV) And the priests of Israel were told to step into the rushing
waters of the Jordan before God stopped the water. (Joshua
<http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua%203:13;&version=31;>
3:13 NIV) But sometimes - because of our lack of faith (like Gideon) - or
because He wants to make sure we head in the right direction - God gives us
confirmation beforehand. He speaks to us through His word, through other
people, through circumstances. He wants us to stay within His will. He
wants us to act according to His Word. He will guide us - sometimes
beforehand and sometimes after. But always, He will guide us.

"So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is."
