FEELING ABANDONED -- Judges 6:13 NIV
"But sir," Gideon replied, "if the LORD is with us, why has all this
happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about
when they said, 'Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the
LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian."
Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Virtually every day, you can hear someone say
almost these very words - if the Lord is with me, why has all this happened
to me? I've said those words. You've said them. We've all said them.
When the world is falling apart around us, it's hard to remember that the
Lord is with us - in control. We can't understand how - if He really loves
us - He could allow disaster to come into our lives. But He does. And He
does it because He loves us.
Life's disasters are like a polishing stone that smoothes the rough edges
off a diamond. If the diamond could feel, I'm sure it would not enjoy the
grinding, vibrating sensation at all. As a matter of fact, it would
probably be excruciatingly painful. But the result is a sparkling, perfect
gem that shines with a brilliance beyond any other in the world.
So in the midst of your trials, don't feel abandoned. Remember the diamond
that you will become if you allow God's polishing to do its job. And praise
the Lord for the light that will shine from you as a result of God's
polishing.
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let
endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete,
lacking in nothing." James 1:2-3 NIV
