very invested" in the concept of a space elevator based on Earth, for now he
has shifted his focus to the lunar elevator. "There was a question of where

this soon – perhaps within 5-7 years and not some mythic 15-25 years in the
future is enticing."

the next three years for the start of the full-blown construction of the
Vostochny cosmodrome," Mr Putin said. Vostochny means "eastern" in Russian.
The head of Russia's federal space agency, Roscosmos Anatoly Perminov, said
that up to 30,000 specialists would build the new space launch facility. He
also noted that it will be smaller than Baikonur, which Russia rents from
Kazakhstan. "It will be a least costly and a more compact site," Mr Perminov
noted, comparing the new site with Baikonur, which is the largest and oldest
space launch facility in the world. The new space port will cover some 700
sq km and will contain new launch pads, a high-tech residential compound and
research laboratories.

reforms, and has taken a less hard line on many issues than his predecessor

atheist summit will also welcome under the rubric of 'non-religious groups',
the Freemasons, the secretive fraternal organisation, according to

stone owl surrounded by water. A child (or effigy) dubbed "Dull Care" is
delivered by a ferryman on a small boat and is placed on the altar before
the owl, where it is burned as an offering for the purpose of magically
alleviating the cares and concerns of those elitists making the sacrifice.
Before Jones captured this astonishing ritual on film, American citizens
were not even aware that such occultism is carried out under the cover of
darkness by the world's most powerful and respected leaders. Does this not
cause reasonable people to question what other sorcery is occurring behind
the veil?

Iron Dome will not be deployed against Gaza missiles

Turkey's foreign minister Ahmed Dagutoglu met secretly in Damascus with
Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal Monday, July 19, as well as getting together
with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al
Hariri to synchronize their operations against Israel, focusing for now on
the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
In Israel, meanwhile, the home-made Iron Dome defense system against short-
and medium-range missiles was given a showy press after just-completed
successful tests - notwithstanding the admission that it would take months
before the new system was able to protect the Israeli communities and towns
abutting Gaza.
The Iron Dome proved it could simultaneously intercept volleys of rockets
coming in from different directions while computing their trajectories to
determine which would hit populated areas.
However,Deputy Defense Minister Mattan Vilnai, who is responsible for
homeland security, was enlisted Tuesday for a radio interview to cool the
excitement of the 300,000 civilians targeted for Palestinian missile attacks
from Gaza for eight years and the communities of northern Israeli who lived
in the shadow of Hizballah's rockets up until the 2006 Lebanon war.

The Rafael-produced Iron Dome, while the most advanced of its kind in the
world, promises no more than 80 percent effectiveness, Vilnai explained.
Furthermore, it would not be permanently deployed at the northern or
southern borders - but only as required. Salvation was therefore not yet in
sight.
As a cure-all for Israeli border security, Iron Dome has at least four
shortcomings, defined here by debkafile's military sources:

1. *Its availability.* Iron Dome batteries will not be available in the
coming months, should a military showdown flare with Iran, Hizballah or
Hamas. Most optimistically, it will take another 10 months for Rafael to
manufacture the 16-18 batteries required by the two flashpoint border
sectors, deploy them and train crews to operate them. Therefore, even if the
$1.25 billion can be found for this number, Israel will not have the Iron
Dome ready for the next foreseeable rocket or missile attack.
2. *No combat experience*. Although a smash hit in tests, the system has
never been tried in combat conditions. No army in the world will deploy or
place orders for Iron Dome before its first test of fire against the diverse
arsenals of Hizballah and Hamas.
For example, it has never shown its paces against simultaneous Hamas and
Hizballah missile attacks from several directions from rapidly-moving
launching locations with the attackers using electronic devices for jamming
and deception. Four years ago, in the Lebanon War, Hizballah had begun to
master electronic devices for tracking, eavesdropping and locking in on IDF
targets. There is every reason to suppose that the Lebanese Shiite
terrorists have enhanced this capability since then.
3. *Distinguishing targets*. Publicity handouts present Iron Dome as
capable of distinguishing between incoming missiles heading for target
civilian areas and those that will explode in unpopulated areas.
This description oversimplifies the challenges: Today's battlefield is not a
clearly-marked arena between enemy missile launchers and anti-missile
systems for intercepting them. For instance, if the Iron Dome were to track
one volley of missiles aimed at its own base and another targeting the city
of Ashkelon, how would it choose which volley to intercept?
This dilemma could be sorted out with a large enough number of batteries
rising to an unrealistic figure.
4. *Expensive. * Iron Dome is costly - half a million dollars per battery
including its launching mechanism, compared with a Hamas Qassam missile
which costs $150 to manufacture.
On the working assumption that Hamas is able to fire an average 500 rockets
a day and Hamas 300 missiles, Israel would need to lay out a staggering $40
million per day to maintain this defensive system in working order, a
totally disproportionate cost in military terms.
This spiraling dilemma is the consequence of the Netanyahu-Barak
administration's innate lack of resolve.
It does not take a political genius to deduce that the Iron Dome hype was
drummed up after the weekly cabinet meeting of Sunday, July 18, laid bare
the prime minister and defense minister's ineptness in forging a policy to
deal with the massive, uncontrolled influx of up to 1,000 job-seekers per
month swarming across the unfenced Egyptian-Israel border - mostly from
Eritrea and Sudan.
Around 500 a year in 2008, their numbers have expanded to 8,000 in the first
seven months of 2010, with some 50,000 camping in Tel Aviv, 8,000 in Eilat
(one-tenth of the population) and thousands in Ashdod and Arad. Police say
the situation is out of control.
Five months ago, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered frontier fence to
be built but nothing was done. Tuesday, July 20, Home Security Minister
Yitzhak Aharonovitch touring the long, desert border only to announce that a
barrier would take three years to build and it was no substitute for a
coherent policy of restrictions
The deputy defense minister's cold reality shower have shocked Israelis into
grasping that their government is falling down on the two crucial tasks of
controlling the river of illegal migrants and protection against enemy
rockets.

No consoling peace hoopla is in sight. When Netanyahu met ailing Egyptian
president Hosni Mubarak on Sunday, they went round in circles for the
umpteenth time on ways to get direct talks with the Palestinians off the
ground and the situation in the Gaza Strip, which Cairo is only too happy to
shunt off to Israel. They did not get around to discussing the critical
situation along the much-too-open Egyptian-Israeli border.
debkafile's military sources report that some weeks ago, the American and
French military engineers building the steel wall along the Philadelphi
route for sealing the Gaza Strip arms smuggling tunnels off from their Sinai
routes dropped tools and gave up on the project.

The project was abandoned after Hamas used heavy-duty machinery to cut
through the steel girders forming the wall.
This did not stop al Qaeda's No. 2 Ayman Zawahiri in a new video released on
July 19 from slamming Arab rulers, notably Egypt, for building the steel
wall.
Having given up on tactics for controlling the constant buildup of Hamas and
Hizballah missile arsenals, Israel has also left itself without a current,
effective defense for its southern population or Galilee and laid itself
open to an unhampered influx of African migrants, among whom al Qaeda
elements can easily mingle.

Violent Mexican gang hijacks U.S. evangelical's book [Excerpts]

Drawing from an unlikely source, La Familia Michoacana (the Michoacan
Family) bases part of its ideology on the book "Wild at Heart," by John
Eldredge of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Ransomed Heart Ministries.

Nazario Moreno Gonzalez, known in Mexico as "El Mas Loco" (The Craziest
One), runs La Familia with rigid discipline and pseudo-evangelical spirit.
Doubling as both a political and social force, La Familia is known in
Mexico, a nation that has been plagued with drug-related bloodshed, for its
extreme violence.

According to Time magazine, while Moreno Gonzalez ferried cocaine to the
U.S. in the 1990s, he was influenced by Latino evangelicals and images of
the mafia in "The Godfather" films. Later, he returned to Mexico with a
sense of religious justification-and Eldredge's book.

The book has become central to La Familia's recruitment strategy and group
mentality.
For new recruits, the cartel turns to addicts in drug rehabilitation
clinics, helping them overcome addiction before forcing them to join the
group. Family values and religion are emphasized during the recruitment
process, which includes daily group prayer sessions and mandatory readings.

Included in the readings is Eldredge's book, Spanish translations of which
have been found in police raids of La Familia strongholds.

Eldredge's theology is based on a "muscular" view of Christianity, one that
emphasizes an "authentic masculinity" that has been lost, he said, in modern
Christian theology.

Central to "Wild at Heart" is an image of man as warrior, willing and able
to fight the battle, rescue the beauty, and live the adventure.

Eldredge says he has had mixed feelings about the group's use of his book.
"You know, at first I was shocked and angry," he said, initially calling the
mishandling of his book "pernicious."

"But after I had thought about it, I thought that I'm delighted that `Wild
at Heart' has found itself into their cult because hopefully it will bring
change."

BISHOP PROMOTES HOMOSEXUALITY

hate" U.S. Christians who preach in Africa against homosexual practice, a
former bishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda has called upon western
countries to use their influence to promote acceptance of homosexuality in
Africa.

During his appearance in Washington, Christopher Senyonjo was hosted by
Bishop Gene Robinson of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire, the first
openly homosexual bishop in the Anglican Communion. The two spoke at the
liberal Center for American Progress about anti-homosexuality legislation in
Uganda, which they blamed on U.S. evangelicals. They also called for a
broader effort to decriminalize homosexual practices in Africa. Senyonjo's
appearance at CAP was part of a six-week speaking tour of the United States,
sponsored by Integrity USA, an unofficial homosexual caucus in the Episcopal
Church.

from Michael Posner, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy,
Human Rights, and Labor. Posner said he was there to "lend the support of
the U.S. government to this very important subject."

"Not content to compel Americans to surrender to their agenda of constantly
fluid notions of gender and sex, liberal Episcopalians who resent Africa's
traditionalist beliefs now want the U.S. Government to compel poor African

Episcopalians and other U.S. religionists are often indifferent to
international religious persecution, even when churches around the world are

While the slogan for the "The First National Jewish Anti-Zionist Gathering
(IJAZN)" isn't actually "anti-Semites of the world unite!" that would have
been a fitting choice, combining both of the "gatherings" two underlying
themes: hatred of Israel and adoration of communism. The event [was held]
June 19 through 22...fittingly enough, in Detroit. The once proud and now
crumbling Motor City is perhaps the nation's best example of what happens
when leftist dreams come true. Even better, from the organizers point of
view, the Detroit metropolitan area is home to a large number of Muslims, so
the jihadis living among them can be counted on to make the radical Jews who
organized the event feel even better about their self-loathing.

Specifically, the organizers are the International Jewish Anti-Zionist
Network and the Middle East Children's Alliance. Neither organization
bothers to hide their radical, leftist world-view, a perspective that
dovetails nicely into their sure and certain belief that Palestinians and
Israelis could easily live in peace and harmony, if only Israel would grasp
the hand that Hamas and Hizbullah have repeatedly extended in friendship and
if only Israel would abandon its foolish alliance with those imperialistic
Americans.

The IJAZN was created in 2008 when Professor Moshe Machover and Selma James
announced the adoption of the organization's charter at a press conference
in London.

Machover, born in Tel Aviv in 1936, is an unrepentant admirer of all things
Marxist. He scorns representative democracy, because in his view our system
of government doesn't give appropriate weight to radical ideas. Oddly enough
though, the one representative democracy that comes closest to getting it
right in Machover's world is the nation he hates most of all: Israel. In
April 2010 he wrote: "But here is a rare, perhaps unique, exception: Israel
has just about the most democratic electoral system possible in a bourgeois
state: a consistent form of proportional representation...Minority voices,
including that of the Arab national minority, have regularly been heard on
the floor of that house." Not that providing Arabs living in Israel with the
very things that Arabs deny non-Muslims in every nation they control -- a
voice in government and freedom of worship - excuses Israel's many sins in
Machover's world. Of course not.Lest We Forget

The Middle East Children's Alliance is just as radical. Founder and
Executive Director Barbara Lubin, a Norm Chomsky disciple, was abducted by
Hizbullah in 1991. Recognizing that their captive was coming down with a bad
case of Stockholm syndrome, the terrorist organization released her,
prompting Lubin to observe that: "They're just ordinary schleps like the
rest of us." Ordinary schleps armed with missiles and RPGs perhaps, but why
quibble with a humanitarian like Lubin?

Given the alternate universe in which the organizers flourish, it's not at
all difficult to predict the themes of The First National Jewish
Anti-Zionist Gathering. According to their worldview, the aggressors in the
Middle East are nobly defending their rights and their land, while a nation
under siege has somehow become an agent of American imperialism. What's
truly troubling is that, based on their words and deeds, there's little
doubt that the organizers actually believe that represents an accurate
portrayal of the on-going struggle in the Middle East and that Machover,
James and Lubin don't know how they are being used - and will continue to be
used - by terrorists bent on the destruction of Israel.
