*BP 'Trying To Gag
Scientists'*<http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=135907&sectionid=3510203>
British energy giant BP is trying to silence scientists and academics
involved in the oil titan's spill response in the Gulf of Mexico, the
American Association of Professors says. The British company, which faces
more than 300 lawsuits for the April disaster that lead gallons of oil to
gush into the Gulf, has reportedly offered scientists a contracts preventing
them from publishing all research done for BP. Speaking to the BBC, Cary
Nelson, the head of the association on Thursday said BP is trying to "buy"
the best to help its defense against litigation after the spill. "This is
really one huge corporation trying to buy faculty silence in a comprehensive
way," Nelson added. According to a copy of the document obtained by the BBC,
scientists are forbidden from publishing any data for at least three years,
unless the Obama administration approves BP's restoration plan for the whole
of the Gulf. "Faculty members under contract to BP, would be unable to
testify against the company in court and would be available to testify on
the company's behalf," Nelson also wrote in an article article in the *Inside
Higher Ed *daily.

*Within the next 40 years, most Americans believe, the United States will
get the bulk of its energy from sources other than oil. Computers will
converse like people. Cancer will be cured, and artificial limbs will
outperform natural ones. Astronauts will land on Mars, and ordinary people
will travel in space. "If the U.S. has a *national religion*, the closest
thing to it is faith in technology," said Scott Keeter, director of survey
research for the Pew Research Center. The documented belief in technological
advancement extended from the laboratory (half said an extinct species would
be resuscitated through cloning) to outer space (half said evidence of life
would be found elsewhere in the universe) to the marketplace (a small
majority said gasoline-powered cars would go out of production).

Steam*<http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100722/full/news.2010.367.html>
Six months since it launched, the world's first factory for making
professional-quality biological DNA 'parts' is beginning to stock its
shelves. More than 60 people — academic researchers, industry partners and
interested members of the community — joined the staff at the International
Open Facility Advancing Biotechnology (BIOFAB), at a meeting on 19 and 20
July to discuss the facility's progress so far and its aims over the next
few years. BIOFAB aims to supply synthetic biologists with a collection of
genetic parts that they can use in their experiments. Biological parts —
actually sequences of DNA — should have known and predictable functions, so
they can be inserted into cells to boost the production of a particular
protein, for example, or make it sensitive to a specific toxin. BIOFAB has
begun to add some early attempts at parts sequences to its registry. But
there is still some way to go before the fruits of BIOFAB's labours can be
useful to researchers, says Drew Endy, the facility's director and a
synthetic biologist at Stanford University in Palo Alto.

Ontario police set to charge Muslim extremist
Over the past three years, Salman Hossain has openly called for terrorist
attacks in Canada, cheered the killing of Canadian troops in Afghanistan and
urged fellow Muslims to "exterminate" Canada's Jewish population.

When police started showing up at his suburban home in Mississauga, Ont., in
2007, he was not chastened. He wrote that he "You can't charge me for
possessing a thought."

Canadian authorities have apparently heard enough of Mr. Hossain's thoughts.
Ontario Provincial Police have scheduled a news conference for Thursday
afternoon to announce the results of a lengthy investigation into the young
extremist. ...

Experts: Health Hazards in Gulf Warrant Evacuations

Thursday 22 July 2010

by: Rose Aguilar, t r u t h o u t | Report

George Barisich has been a fisherman in New Orleans for over 40 years. Some
experts are concerned that toxic chemicals being used to help clean up the
oil spill in the Gulf are seriously endangering the health of those living
near the water. (Photo: bbcworldservice / Flickr)

When Louisiana residents ask marine toxicologist and community activist Riki
Ott what she would do if she lived in the Gulf with children, she tells them
she would leave immediately. "It's that bad. We need to start talking about
who's going to pay for evacuations."

In 1989, Ott, who lives in Cordova, Alaska, experienced firsthand the
devastating effects of the Exxon Valdex oil disaster. For the past two
months, she's been traveling back and forth between Louisiana and Florida to
gather information about what's really happening and share the lessons she
learned about long-term illnesses and deaths of cleanup workers and
residents. In late May, she began meeting people in the Gulf with symptoms
like headaches, dizziness, sore throats, burning eyes, rashes and blisters
that are so deep, they're leaving scars. People are asking, "What's
happening to me?"

She says the culprit is almost two million gallons of Corexit, the
dispersant BP is using to break up and hide the oil below the ocean's
surface. "It's an industrial solvent. It's a degreaser. It's chewing up boat
engines off-shore. It's chewing up dive gear on-shore. Of course it's
chewing up people's skin. The doctors are saying the solvents are making the
oil worse."

In a widely watched YouTube video, from Project Gulf Impact, a project that
aims to give Gulf residents a voice, Chris Pincetich, a marine biologist and
campaigner with the Sea Turtle Restoration Project, said Coast Guard planes
are flying overhead at night spraying Corexit on the water and on land.

Ott says people who are experiencing discomfort of any kind, especially
children, pregnant women, cancer survivors, asthma sufferers and
African-Americans because they're prone to sickle cell anemia, should wear a
respirator and see a doctor that specializes in chemical poisoning
immediately. She also recommends contacting the detox specialists at The
Environmental Health Center in Dallas, Texas. "People don't have the
information to know that the burning sore throat is actually chemical
poisoning," she said. "And this isn't getting any attention, but it's very
important. There are no vaccinations for chemical poisoning. None."

Because she's gotten to know the locals and has done a number of national
media interviews, she's now receiving a barrage of daily phone calls and
emails from people who are concerned and don't know where else to turn. She
recommends they read this Sciencecorps resource about potential health
hazards.

In the video above, author and journalist Summer Burke talks about her
experience being sprayed with the toxic dispersant Corexit.

Ott shared these stories on a recent trip to the Bay Area with Diane Wilson,
former Texas shrimper turned rabble-rousing activist. Ott was coughing and
constantly clearing her throat during our two-hour conversation. "I can
still smell the oil," she said.

Media outlets have been reporting on public health concerns and taking water
quality samples, but Ott says they've only scratched the surface. "If I were
in charge of the media, I would be talking be about public safety and public
health every day. They should also be exposing the truth about how our
federal standards are outdated and no longer protective of public health or
worker safety. We knew in 1989 that OSHA had a loophole in it that's big
enough to drive every single sick worker through. It exempts the reporting
of colds and flus. That loophole has not been closed since Exxon Valdez."

Ott expressed her concerns during a May meeting with Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lisa Jackson. "I was sitting across
from her. She said, quote, 'I am walking a fine line between truth and
hysteria. We don't want to create a panic.' This shows you how much our
government is beholden to oil and cannot imagine a future without oil. We
the people have got to imagine this. We have to. This is way worse than
people think."

On Tuesday, Mother Jones' Kate Sheppard reported that Hugh Kaufman, a
whistleblower who works as a senior policy analyst in the EPA's Office of
Solid Waste and Emergency Response, is accusing the agency of deliberately
downplaying public health threats and its own role in regulating the
chemicals being dumped into the Gulf "to protect itself from liability and
keep the public from getting too alarmed."

The cause for alarm can't be more apparent. In addition to the health
problems people are already experiencing, WKRG News 5 reporter Jessica
Taloney recently collected samples of water and sand from five Alabama
beaches and took them to a local lab to be tested.

Bob Naman, a chemist with nearly 30 years of experience, told Taloney that
he wouldn't expect to see more than five parts per million of oil and
petroleum in the water. The sample of the water taken in Gulf Shores beach,
where adults and kids were swimming and playing, showed 66 parts per
million. The sand had 211 parts per million. When Naman began to test the
sample collected from Dauphin Island Marina, it exploded. "We think that it
mostly likely happened due to the presence of methanol or methane gas or the
presence of the dispersant, Corexit."

"What's going on in the Gulf is the same cover-up that was going with the
9/11 environmental issue," the EPA's Kaufman told Sheppard. "The Bush White
House ordered EPA to lie about the environmental and public health situation
at the World Trade Center because of economic ramifications. So they did."

On Democracy Now!, Kaufman accused the EPA of being "sock puppets for BP in
this cover-up."

I called Kaufman to find out if he agrees with Ott's decision to sound the
alarm about evacuations. The short answer? Yes. "If you're getting sick,
it's because you're being poisoned," he said. "Those chemicals can cause
cancer 20 years down the line and that's why Riki Ott is saying some areas
have to be evacuated. That's true. We don't know how bad it is because the
EPA is not doing adequate air testing. They're taking some measurements so
they can tell the public that everything is safe [when in fact the public
has] an increased risk of getting cancer and dying early. They're pawns in a
money game."

Kaufman and Ott both say the media need to follow the money. The reason why
the EPA is covering this up, they say, is because the cost to BP would be
astronomical. "The dispersants hide the oil," said Ott. "If you put
dispersants in the water, you don't know how much oil was really spilled.
Oil fines are based on how much oil was spilled, so it's all about money."

If a group listed as a terrorist organization had caused the oil disaster,
Kaufman says their assets would be seized immediately and their members
would be arrested. So, why hasn't the US government seized BP's assets?
Kaufman points to an April Vanity Fair article about Larry Fink, one of the
most powerful men on Wall Street. Fink's BlackRock money-management firm
controls or monitors more than $12 trillion worldwide, including a billion
shares of BP. According to the article, BlackRock "has effectively become
the leading manager of Washington's bailout of Wall Street," thanks to
Fink's close relationship with former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

"It's all about money," says Kaufman. "Follow the money."

So, where does this leave the people whose lives have been destroyed by this
disaster? Where does this leave the people who will face long-term health
problems? Where does this leave our oceans, wildlife and environment? What's
next?

"The more the public knows, the more the media cover it, the more the people
tell officials to help, the better it is," says Kaufman. "It's a game of
momentum."

Ott says she plans to stay in the area to assist where she can (getting
respirators for workers is near the top of her list), get the truth out and
continue the conversations and community meetings she's having with
self-described Tea Partiers, evangelicals and fifth and sixth generation
fisherman. "Here's something positive for you," she said. "I'm starting to
hear, 'We all live on one planet and there really is a climate crisis here.
This can't continue.' I'm having conversations with the Christian Right. I'm
staying in an oilman's camper. Oilmen are starting to see that we need
alternatives. I'm having tea party people come up to me and say, 'How can I
help?' Corporations want to divide the nation into red and blue, Democrat
and Republican. I'm seeing that crashing down. The frames are dissolving.
The South is rising. I'm talking about the Deep South. This is the most
hopeful sign I'm seeing."

Former shrimper Diane Wilson hopes to see more direct action. "This is a
crisis. If this oil gusher does not move people to force a change in
Washington, then it will never happen. We are seeing the end of the United
States as we know it. If people hold their planet dear, they better be out
there. Folks are too well behaved. We need to be unreasonable."

Censored Gulf news: People bleeding internally, millions poisoned says 'EPA
whistleblower'
July 21, 9:44 AMHuman Rights ExaminerDeborah Dupre'

Mexico

"...we have dolphins that are hemorrhaging. People who work near it are
hemorrhaging internally. And that's what dispersants are supposed to do...
Congressman Markey and Nadler, as well as Senator Mikulski, have been
heroes... Mark Kaufman, EPA whistleblower, Democracy Now!

Poisoning millions of people

In its report, EPA Whistleblower Accuses Agency of Covering Up Effects of
Dispersant in BP Oil Spill Cleanup, Democracy Now! states that "many
lawmakers and advocacy groups say the Obama administration is not being
candid about the lethal effects of dispersants," so Amy Goodman interviewed
Hugh Kaufman, a senior policy analyst at the EPA's Office of Solid Waste and
Emergency Response and a leading critic of the decision to use Corexit" who
disclosed how the officials are lying about many things related to the
catastrophe poisoning "millions of people." (Listen: Real Audio Strea or MP3
Download)

The rushed transcript includes Kaufman saying, "And I think the media now
has to follow the money, just as they did in Watergate, and tell the
American people who's getting money for poisoning the millions of people in
the Gulf. (Emphasis added)

"While concerns over the impact of chemical dispersants continue to grow,
Gulf Coast residents are outraged by a recent announcement that the $20
billion government-administered claim fund will subtract money cleanup
workers earn by working for the cleanup effort from any future claims.

The "Vessels of Opportunity" program has employed hundreds of Gulf Coast out
of work people because of the spill which Kaufman says is viewed as yest
another way "to limit the number of lawsuits against BP."

"And the government—both EPA, NOAA, etc.—have been sock puppets for BP in
this cover-up. (Emphasis added)

Kaufman concurs with MSNBC's report last week, that "sole purpose in the
Gulf for dispersants is to keep a cover-up going for BP to try to hide the
volume of oil that has been released and save them hundreds of millions, if
not billions, of dollars of fines... not to protect the public health or
environment. Quite the opposite.."

He says to follow the money, and that leads to individuals in the Obama
Administration, naming Mr. Geithner, Mr. Summers with close ties to Larry
Fink who owns BlackRock that owns most BP shares.

He commented on the children being poisoned:

"...you know, when you're on the sand with your children and they dig, and
there's a little water?—they documented there was over 200 parts per million
of oil waste in the water, and it's not noticeable to the human eye... On
top of it, the contamination in one of the samples was so high that when
they put the solvent in, as a first step in identifying how much oil may be
in the water, the thing blew up, just as he said, probably because there was
too much Corexit in that particular sample."

When Goodman asked Kaufman to comment on the similarities between the Ground
Zero of the Gulf catastrophe and what happened at Ground Zero of 911, he
explained that he did the ombudsman investigation on Ground Zero, "where EPA
made false statements about the safety of the air" ... since proven to be
false.

Red herring: No more tests needed. Corexit known to be dangerous.

"The largest ingredient in Corexit is oil. But there are other materials.
And when the ingredients are mixed with oil, the combination of Corexit or
any dispersant and oil is more toxic than the oil itself. But EPA has all
that information.

"That's a red herring issue being raised, that we have to somehow know more
information. When you look at the label and you look at the toxicity sheets
that come with it, the public knows enough to know that it's very dangerous.
The National Academy of Science has done work on it. Toxicologists from
Exxon that developed it have published on it.

"So, we know enough to know that it's very dangerous, and to say that we
just have to know more about it is a red herring issue. We know plenty. It's
very dangerous."

"[T]he media now has to follow the money, just as they did in Watergate, and
tell the American people who's getting money for poisoning the millions of
people in the Gulf."

No mention was made by the whistleblower about military involvement in this
operation, nor that the DoD has been in bed with EPA for decades, testing
aerosol sprayed chemicals on unwitting individuals and large populations.

With all eyes on big bad BP, could it be the real red herring?

Jen Keeton

A lawsuit against Augusta State University in Georgia alleges school
officials essentially gave a graduate student in counseling the choice of
giving up her Christian beliefs or being expelled from the graduate program.

School officials Mary Jane Anderson-Wiley, Paulette Schenck and Richard
Deaner demanded student Jen Keeton, 24, go through a "remediation" program
after she asserted homosexuality is a behavioral choice, not a "state of
being" as a professor said, according to the complaint.

Also named as defendants in the case that developed in May and June are
other administrators and the university system's board of regents.

The remediation program was to include "sensitivity training" on homosexual
issues, additional outside study on literature promoting homosexuality and
the plan that she attend a "gay pride parade" and report on it.

Where has higher education in America gone? Find out in "Freefall of the
American University"

The lawsuit, filed by attorneys working with the Alliance Defense Fund,
asserted the school cannot violate the Constitution by demanding that a
person's beliefs be changed.

"ASU faculty have promised to expel Miss Keeton from the graduate Counselor
Education program, not because of poor academic showing or demonstrated
deficiencies in clinical performance, but simply because she has
communicated both inside and outside the classroom that she holds to
Christian ethical convictions on matters of human sexuality and gender
identity," the law firm explained.

School spokeswoman Kathy Schose today declined to address the allegations in
the case but agreed to discuss the counselor teaching program in general.

She cited the American Counseling Association's code of ethics and said
students would be required to adopt its provisions.

"There is a code of ethics that govern counselors," she said. "They have to
abide by the code of the profession."

Ethics codes generally govern behavior, and Schose denied the school was
attempting to alter any student's beliefs or moral values.

But the lawsuit specifically charges the faculty members targeted Keeton's
biblically based belief system and values, not her behavior regarding the
treatment of any clients, which had not yet happened.

"Schenck told Miss Keeton that it was unethical for her to believe that her
convictions should also be shared by other persons. … Schenck explained that
while Miss Keeton was free to have points of view about how she personally
should conduct and define herself, she may not believe that others should
adopt the standards she personally is convinced are true," thelawsuit said.

Left to right: Richard Deaner, Paulette Schenck, Mary Jane Anderson-Wiley

"Anderson-Wiley confirmed that Miss Keeton will not be able to successfully
complete the remediation plan and thus complete the ASUcounseling program
unless she commits to affirming the propriety of gay and lesbian
relationships if such an opportunity arises in her future professional
efforts," it continued.

ADF Senior Counsel David French contended a public university student
"shouldn't be threatened with expulsion for being a Christian and refusing
to publicly renounce her faith, but that's exactly what's happening here."

"Simply put, the university is imposing thought reform," he said.
"Abandoning one's own religious beliefs should not be a precondition at a
public university for obtaining a degree. This type of leftist
zero-tolerance policy is in place at far too many universities, and it must
stop. Jennifer's only crime was to have the beliefs that she does."

Keeton's own e-mail response to the faculty members who allegedly were
pressuring her to adopt a pro-homosexual belief system defines the dispute.

"At times you said that I must alter my beliefs because they are unethical.
… other times you said that I can keep my beliefs so long as they are only
personal and I don't believe that anyone else should believe like me. But
that is just another way of saying that I must alter my beliefs, because my
beliefs are about absolute truth. ….. in order to finish thecounseling
program you are requiring me to alter my objective beliefs and also to
commit now that if I ever may have a client who wants me to affirm their
decision to have an abortion or engage in gay, lesbian, or transgender
behavior, I will do that. I can't alter my biblical beliefs, and I will
notaffirm the morality of those behaviors in a counseling situation," she
wrote.

Faculty members had demanded she "attend at least three workshops … which
emphasize … diversity training sensitive toward working with GLBTQ
populations." They also wanted her to "develop" her knowledge of
homosexuality by reading 10 articles and increasing her exposure to
homosexuals and lesbians by attending "the Gay Pride Parade."

According to the complaint documentation, which also seeks a preliminary
injunction in the case, Keeton asked Anderson-Wiley how her Christian
convictions are any less acceptable than those of a Buddhist or Muslim
student. Anderson-Wiley responded, "Christians see this population as
sinners."

The complaint alleges Anderson-Wiley specifically told Keeton she was being
asked to alter some of her beliefs. The "remediation" program included a
statement that Keeton would be dismissed from the program if she chose not
to comply, thelawsuit said.

"Unless and until defendant's unconstitutional speech-regulating policies
and threatened … actions against Miss Keeton are enjoined, Miss Keeton will
suffer and continue to suffer irreparable injury to her constitutional
rights," thelawsuit said.

Among the alleged violations of the First and Fourteenth Amendments are
viewpoint discrimination, compelled speech, equal protection and freedom of
speech, it said.

"By conditioning Miss Keeton's continued enrollment in the ASU school
counselor masters degree program on her waiver of rights to speech and free
exercise of religion … by requiring that she alter her beliefs and speech,
and that she … commit toaffirm in a hypothetical future context the ethical
propriety of transgender and homosexual identification and behavior by
others, as well as other values and behaviors she now disapproves, and which
violate her religion convictions, defendants have imposed an
unconstitutional condition on Miss Keeton," the complaint alleges.

"The First Amendment never permits the government to penalize beliefs in
this manner," the complaint said.

The ADF said it also is litigating a case involving a Georgia counselor
fired by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention because she would
not agree to affirm homosexual behavior. While an earlier similar case at
Missouri State has been resolved, there is another in which Eastern Michigan
University is defendant on similar allegations.

In the Missouri State case, a social work professor, Frank Kauffman,
eventually was placed on leave as part of a settlement of the lawsuit
brought on behalf of student Emily Brooker. The student had refused his
assignment to lobby on behalf of homosexual adoptions because it violated
her religious beliefs. She then was brought up on ethics charges in
theschool.

The settlement also included monetary damages and the removal of the charges
against her from her record. The school's own commissioned conclusion in the
case found "many students and faculty stated a fear of voicing differing
opinions. … In fact, 'bullying' was used by both students and faculty to
characterize specific faculty."

Julea Ward

In the still-pending case involving Eastern Michigan, lawmakers there
considered calling top school officials on the carpet after they expelled
from a counseling program a Christian student who refused to argue in
support of the homosexual lifestyle.

As WND reported, trouble began for master's program student Julea Ward when
she refused to accept a client whose issue concerned a homosexual
relationship.

The school expelled her from the counseling program March 12, 2009, for
refusing to abrogate her own personal religious beliefs and support the
homosexual lifestyle.

Since then, Ward has brought a lawsuit through the Alliance Defense Fund
Center for Academic Freedom.

Members of the Michigan Senate shortly later approved legislation that
includes a provision calling on university counseling programs to evaluate
and affirm how they can accommodate the religious beliefs of students.

State Rep. Tom McMillin told WND at the time the case was "extremely
alarming," and there was growing support for an effort to penalize
universities that don't accommodate religious beliefs.

"This is a state-taxpayer-supported university," he said. "She's got a court
case. Hopefully that will be resolved."

In the case, the judge refused to dismiss the complaint, determining there
were "genuine issues of material fact" about the school's "true motivations"
for dismissing Ward from the program. Further, the judge concluded, the
student's actions to avoid in advance a counseling session for which she had
reservations probably followed professional ethical guidelines.

More Israeli appeasement of Turkey - return of four flotilla boats
DEBKAfile Special Report July 23, 2010, 3:46 PM (GMT+02:00)

Israeli commandos must prepare for another Turkish flotilla

The Netanyahu government's decision to send back to Ankara the four flotilla
boats used by the Turkish IHH terrorist sponsors of Hamas was Israel's
fourth gesture of abject appeasement in a week to Ankara, which continues to
whip up anti-Israel agitation in line with its undisguised hostility towards
the Jewish state, debkafile's military sources report.

The Islam-orientated government of Recep Erdogan is cracking down on
pro-Israeli elements of the Turkish high army command, including the chief
of staff; the IHH group which is closely allied with the government elite
continues to foster ties with fellow Islamic terrorists; and Ankara has
abused the conditions of purchase of Israel drones and is sharing their
advanced technology with Syria, a country at war with the Jewish state.
Yet Thursday, July 22, Netanyahu's inner cabinet of seven resolved to return
the four IHH-owned vessels which led the flotilla which Israeli commandos
prevented from breaking the Gaza blockade on May 31, virtually without any
strings attached.
Israel had its reward a few hours later: The UN Human Rights Council
responded to Turkey's demand for an international judicial inquiry into
Israel's conduct in the flotilla episode of May 31.
Its very makeup promises Israel a priori a rough ride: Britain's Sir Edmond
de Silva, former UN prosecutor into war crimes in Sierra Leone, Karl Hudson
Phillips of Trinidad and Tobago, late of the Hague international tribunal
and Mary Shanthi Dairiam of Malaysia, activist in Asian aid and women's
rights organizations.
Israel's two independent inquiry probes are dismissed as of no account.
Still, notwithstanding all the evidence to the contrary, Prime Minister
Binyamin Netanyahu, defense minister Ehud Barak and foreign minister Avigdor
Lieberman are determined to keep their heads stuck in the sand and delude
themselves that appeasement will restore the rosy ties of yore.
Hence, such pointless gestures as -

1. The Counter Terrorism Bureau, which is part of the Prime Minister's
Office, suddenly cancelled the travel advisory issued after the flotilla
incident warning Israelis not to travel to Turkey, because "the situation in
Turkey has eased and Israelis were no longer in direct danger."

This announcement came on July 20, the day after Turkish foreign minister
Ahmet Davutoglu made a point of meeting Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal in
Damascus.
When security and intelligence experts called these assumptions totally
unfounded, Bureau explained that the decision was not colored by political
considerations but security grounds.
2. This explanation was proved false the following day when Jerusalem agreed
to let Turkey have the last four Heron drones of a ten-UAV transaction
despite the discovery - first revealed by debkafile on July 17 - that Ankara
was misusing Israel's high-tech surveillance craft to help Syrian president
Bashar Assad hunt down PKK Kurds transiting his country and Lebanon, in
violation of the terms of sale.
For the original debkafile disclosure, click
here<http://www.debka.com/article/8916>
.
3. Early on in the week, the military inquiry commission headed by Gen.
(ret.) Giora Eiland, which was set up by the chief of staff to investigate
the flotilla episode, found that the "peace activists" aboard the Turkish
Mavi Marmara (which is to be returned) opened fire on the Israeli commandos
who boarded the ship and so initiated the clash in which 8 Turks and a
Turkish-American died.
This finding was consistently played down to Israeli media on the initiative
of the Prime Minister's Office.
4. Then came the decision Friday, July 23, when most Israelis are away on
vacation, to release the four boats to Ankara - even though Ankara and the
extremist IHH which owns them are known to be preparing another anti-Israeli
flotilla to aid Hamas-ruled Palestinian Gaza Strip (which incidentally
opened a multi-storied shopping mall this week which was shown in television
packed with shoppers.)
The Israeli ministers, knowing who owned the ship and Ankara's plans, asked
that the returned ships not be used for another blockade-busting expedition
to the Gaza Strip.Nothing has been heard of Ankara's response.
In an article the New York Times published this week, "Sponsor of Flotilla
Tied to Elite of Turkey," Arcan Citlioglu, a Turkish terrorist expert at
Bahcesehir University in Istanbul, was quoted as saying: "The government
could have stopped the ship if it wanted to, but the mission to Gaza served
both the IHH and the government by making both heroes at home and in the
Arab world.

Netanyahu and Barak, in contrast, have made sure that Israel comes out of
the flotilla affair badly damaged.

The Erdogan government's anti-Israel policies are paying off so handsomely
that he has no incentive for change - the feeble gestures on offer from
Jerusalem were certainly no incentive, when Thursday, Turkey and Iran signed
a 1 billion euro ($1.29 billion) contract to build a 660-km pipeline that
will transfer the Islamic state's natural gas to Turkey.

*I. America upgrades its level of diplomatic contact with Palestinian
President Abbas.*

*The objective is to enter final plans to declare a Palestinian State!*

NEWS BRIEF: "*U.S. upgrades diplomatic ties with Palestinians in bid to woo
Abbas<http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/u-s-upgrades-diplomatic-ties-with-palestinians-in-bid-to-woo-abbas-1.303588>",
*By Natasha Mozgovaya, Barak Ravid and Avi Issacharoff, Haaretz News, July
23, 2010

"The U.S. announced this week that it would upgrade its diplomatic relations
with the PA by granting its mission in Washington - which is actually a PLO
mission - the same status it enjoys in most European countries: that of a
PLO 'general delegation'."

While this upgrade is not all the way up to the status of a country, it is a
major increase in the diplomatic level which the Palestinian Authority
previously enjoyed. This next segment reveals the reason for this diplomatic
upgrade.

" 'This decision reflects our confidence that through direct negotiations,
we can help achieve a two-state solution with an independent and viable
Palestine living side by side with Israel', said White House spokesman
Thomas Vietor. 'We should begin preparing for that outcome now, as we
continue to work with the Palestinian people on behalf of a better future'."

Now we are firmly told: "we should begin preparing for that outcome now..."

Several years ago, we posted a comment made by a middle-level Israeli
official as he stated -- off the record -- the all the negotiations for a
Palestinian State had been concluded and that all that was necessary now was
to announce the new state at the right time.

This diplomatic upgrade is a sure sign that the time is getting close to
announcing the Palestinian State.

Remember, prophecy does not demand that an actual, functioning Palestinian
State needs to be founded; it only says that a empty state will be
pronounced. Listen:

"They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there,
and all her princes shall be nothing. " (*Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified
Bible Commentary* <http://cuttingedge.org/results.cfm?keywords=amplified>)

The Amplified side says it a little differently:

"They shall call its nobles to proclaim the kingdom, but nothing shall be
there, and all its princes shall be no more."

Therefore, we believe that this 20-year-old plan which officially began as
the Oslo Accords will end with only a proclamation that a Palestinian State
is established. However, the state will never begin functioning, probably
because continuous infighting between the Fatah Party of the Palestinian
Authority and Hamas will prevent any kind of a state to take hold and begin
functioning.

*II. When Argentina voted to establish Gay Marriage, she repudiated the
Roman Catholic Church in a very large way, as the Church opposed this
measure with all her being.*

*Ironically, though, the continuous pedophile activity by priests against
young boys and women for centuries undoubtedly aided the passage of this
law!*

NEWS BRIEF: "*Argentina's gay marriage law signed by
president*<http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hNaz3Yj83eVbNzTrmzTSXxpz-pBAD9H3OIE00>",
The Associated Press, July 22, 2010

"BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — President Cristina Fernandez signed a new law
Wednesday making Argentina the first country in Latin America to legalize
marriage for same-sex couples. Civil registries across the nation will now
begin processing long lists of marriage applications from gay couples. The
first such ceremony in Buenos Aires is set for Aug. 13."

"Representatives of groups for gays and lesbians cheered, crying out
"Equality, equality!"

"The law, which was approved by the Senate last week following earlier
endorsement by the lower house, grants same-sex couples the full legal
protections and responsibilities that marriage gives to heterosexual
couples, including the ability to inherit property and to jointly adopt
children. Mexico's capital was the first city in the region to legalize gay
marriages."

This next segment reveals the stiff opposition of the Vatican to this
measure.

"The bill was pushed by Fernandez's left-of-center administration, worsening
its already strained relations with the Roman Catholic Church."

For centuries, the Roman Catholic Church held immense power with the people
are nearly every issue in every nation in Latin and South America. The
Vatican got what the Vatican wanted.

However, this issue of Gay Marriage is another story and its legal
acceptance in the face of stiff opposition from Rome opens a new era of
moral weakness of the Catholic Church. We believe this weakness has occurred
in large part because of the predatory priest who preyed on young boys,
young women and married women for many centuries.

Rome is reaping what she has sowed!

If you are not familiar with the heinous problem of sexually predatory
priests within the Catholic Church, and if you would like to know
definitively why this is such a problem within the Vatican, please view the
new DVD from Bill Schnoebelen, *"Catholicism: A Church On Haunted
Hill"<http://www.cuttingedge.org/detail.cfm?ID=2229>
*, shown above.

We intended this DVD to be a soul-winning video, so we have included a Plan
of Salvation <http://www.cuttingedge.org/detail.cfm?ID=2229> at the end,
written especially for the Roman Catholic.

*III. President Obama plunged America deeper into the regulatory system
known as Fascism when he signed the Wall Street Financial Reform Act into
law.*

NEWS BRIEF: "*Historic financial overhaul signed to law by
Obama*<http://apnews.excite.com/article/20100722/D9H3PRI00.html>",
by Jim Kuhnhenn, Excite News, July 21, 2010

"WASHINGTON (AP) - Reveling over a new milestone in his presidency, a
triumphant Barack Obama on Wednesday signed into law the most sweeping
overhaul of lending and high-finance rules since the Great Depression,
adding safeguards for millions of consumers and aiming to restrain Wall
Street excesses that could set off a new recession ... Emphasizing
provisions that guard borrowers from abusive lenders, he claimed 'the
strongest financial protections for consumers in the nation's history'."

What has really happened here is that, using the planned economic crisis of
2008-2010, Obama and his Democrat allies pushed this bill through, which
allows the Federal Government to regulate the entire Financial Industry in a
manner unprecedented.

Of course, this kind of regulation is the core of our new system of economy
known as Fascism. If you are not familiar with this type of economy, please
take a few moments to read our definitive article,
*NEWS2317*<http://www.cuttingedge.org/news/n2317.cfm>,
entitled, *"Financial Coup Completed: American Economy Now A Tightly
Controlled, Severely Regulated Economy"*.

The first industries to fall to government regulation is this new Fascist
Economy were the banking and insurance companies, followed by the
Automakers. the government "Bailout" scheme was simply designed to give the
government the type of severe regulatory control which the Fascist Model
demands.

Even if Bailout Monies are repaid, the government retains the regulatory
oversight.

Welcome to the economy of the New World Order!

REVISITING HAECKEL'S DRAWINGS

Revisiting Those Pesky Embryo Drawings [Excerpts]

A few years ago, former NCSE [National Council for Science and the
Environment] spokesman Nick Matzke called complaints over the use of
Haeckel's embryo drawings in textbooks a "manufactured scandal." However, a
variety of leading scientific authorities -- proponents of neo-Darwinian
evolution--have also complained about the use of these drawings and the way
that embryology is used to support evolution in biology textbooks. Are these
authorities in on the big conspiracy to "manufacture" this "scandal" too?
Here's where things stand today:

Despite the fact that (in 2010 at least) out-dated concepts like "ontogeny
recapitulates phylogeny" have been almost completely removed from new
textbooks and that many (though not all) new textbooks use embryo
photographs instead of fudged drawings, an examination of both recent
textbooks and complaints from authorities within the scientific community
show that there are still severe problems about how embryology is used to
support evolution in biology textbooks. It's worth noting that many of the
positive textbook corrections in this area came because Dariwn-doubting
scientists like Jonathan Wells exposed inaccuracies in textbooks.

In August 2008, The New York Times reprinted material from the NCSE claiming
that the 19th century embryologist Ernst Haeckel's "longdiscredited
drawings" of vertebrate embryos have not been used in textbooks since "20
years ago" (10 Questions and Answers about Evolution, New York Times, August
23, 2008). That Haeckel's drawings were fraudulent and have been used in
textbooks is essentially beyond dispute, but the reality is that multiple
biology textbooks have been used within the past 20 years that still
Haeckel's drawings to promote evolution (See Casey Luskin, What Do Modern
Textbooks Really Say About Haeckel's Embryos?, Mar. 27, 2007, citing several
examples).

In a 2000 article in Natural History, Stephen Jay Gould recognized that
Haeckel's drawings not only fraudulently obscured the differences between
the early stages of vertebrate embryos, but that they were used
inappropriately in textbooks: "Haeckel had exaggerated the similarities by
idealizations and omissions. He also, in some cases--in a procedure that can
only be called fraudulent--simply copied the same figure over and over
again. At certain stages in early development, vertebrate embryos do look
more alike, at least in gross anatomical features easily observed with the
human eye, than do the adult tortoises, chickens, cows, and humans that will
develop from them. But these early embryos also differ far more
substantially, one from the other, than Haeckel's figures show. Moreover,
Haeckel's drawings never fooled expert embryologists, who recognized his
fudging right from the start.

"At this point, a relatively straightforward factual story, blessed with a
simple moral story as well, becomes considerably more complex, given the
foils and practices of the oddest primate of all. Haeckel's drawings,
despite their noted inaccuracies, entered into the most impenetrable and
permanent of all quasi-scientific literatures: standard student textbooks of
biology. . . .We should therefore not be surprised that Haeckel's drawings
entered nineteenth-century textbooks. But we do, I think, have the right to
be both astonished and ashamed by the century of mindless recycling that has
led to the persistence of these drawings in a large number, if not a
majority, of modern textbooks!" (Stephen Jay Gould, Abscheulich!
(Atrocious!), NATURAL HISTORY, Mar. 2000, at 42, 44-45).

Gould also quotes embryologist Michael K. Richardson, acknowledging the
widespread use of Haeckel's drawings in textbooks: "If so many historians
knew about the old controversy [over Haeckel's falsified drawings], then why
did they not communicate this information to numerous contemporary authors
who use the Haeckel drawings in their books? I know of at least fifty recent
biology textbooks which use the drawings uncritically. I think this is the
most important question to come out of the whole story" (Ibid. at 45).

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
On this week's edition of "The Hal Lindsey Report": Can things get any worse
for BP? Not only is the company now reviled by the world (though Great
Britain's government hasn't abandoned it -- yet), but we are learning that
its greed and skulduggery extend far deeper than the 5,000 feet to its
broken Gulf oil well!

Apparently, BP wanted the right to drill for oil in Libya. Libya's dictator,
Muammar Gadaffi, set a condition: release the Lockerbie bomber. At the time,
this Libyan man was serving a life sentence for planting the bomb that blew
Pan Am flight 103 out of the night sky and onto the village of Lockerbie,
Scotland. He killed 270 people, including 190 Americans.

Did BP say, "No," and walk away from the negotiation? Not hardly. Instead,
the company cajoled (or threatened?) then-Prime Minister Tony Blair into
going along with the idea. So Blair apparently worked out a deal with
Gadaffi. Then the UK got a team of Scottish doctors to certify that the
Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali al Megrahi, had prostate cancer and was
only good for another three months. So, on the flimsy excuse of
"compassion," (which, by the way, al Megrahi didn't show for the 270
families he devastated), Scotland released the bomber to return to Libya to
die.

Which he promptly didn't do. In fact, the doctors now admit that maybe they
missed the diagnosis. Hmmm. Al Megrahi will be living the hero's life of
relative luxury in Libya for the next 10 to 20 years. I wonder if BP
actually got the rights to drill. Even if they did, the company probably
won't survive long enough to actually enjoy the fruits of their disgusting
shenanigans in the Libyan desert.

This whole "government doing the bidding of the corporation" thing really
gets peoples' ire up. And it should. However, I'm still waiting for the
press to fully explore the 20 year 'relationship' Barack Obama has had with
BP (he's the greatest beneficiary of their prodigious political
contributions) as lustily as they explored George W. Bush's 'relationship'
with Enron or Dick Cheney's 'relationship' with Halliburton. Then there's
the fact that quite of a few of the President's appointments in the former
Minerals Management Service spent their years between the Clinton and Obama
administrations working for -- you guessed it -- BP.

At one time, BP stood for British Petroleum, but in 2001, the company
changed its name to simply BP. Its advertising tagline is: "Beyond
Petroleum." Maybe it should be: "Buying Politicians."

Speaking of buying and politicians. Cities and towns across America are
scrambling to come up with enough money to keep City Hall's doors open.
Their revenues are falling because of declining property values, unemployed
citizens, and business failures. Their expenses are rising due to inflation,
increased financial responsibility for new federal demands, and, most
importantly, skyrocketing union labor costs. As a result, many of them are
starting to fire their own staffs and outsource much of the municipal
business to the private sector or even other towns and counties. Maywood,
California, has fired its entire staff, including firemen and police
officers. It has outsourced everything but the city manager's office and the
offices of the elected officials. San Jose, California, fired its entire
unionized custodial staff.

The National League of Cities says that municipalities across the country
will face shortfalls of $56 billion to $86 billion over the next two years.
Almost uniformly, the cities in the worst fiscal shape are the ones with
long traditions of liberal social programs, policies, and spending
practices. I'm sure you've noticed by now, but the same sort of social and
fiscal liberals now control both houses of Congress and the White House. So
if American cities and towns can't stay solvent in the face of declining
revenues and increased spending demands, how can we expect our states and
our nation to do it? Just saying.

Sometimes I have to stop and remember that the name, "The Supreme Court,"
refers to the fact that it's the Court of last resort, the top of the heap,
the last station on the route. The word "Supreme" does not necessarily
indicate the quality of its Justices' thinking. Witness the Court's recent
decision regarding the University of California's Hastings College of the
Law and the student organization, The Christian Legal Society (CLS). The
Court decided that it was okay for the University to deny funding and
recognition to the Christian Legal Society because the Society would not
accept members who were engaged in homosexual relationships.

In short, the majority of Justices decided that the campus organizations who
wish to be officially recognized and receive funding from the university
cannot bar ANY student who wishes to join the group and/or move into a
leadership position, even if that person does not agree with the group's
beliefs.

As the Alliance Defense Fund put it, "The Hastings policy actually requires
CLS to allow atheists to lead its Bible studies and the College Democrats to
accept the election of Republican officers in order for the groups to be
recognized on campus." It will be interesting to see what the Court decides
when an Islamic student group wants to bar Mohammed-bashers from membership
in their organization!

And in another incident, a small group of ten students and four adults from
Wickenburg Christian Academy in Wickenburg, Arizona, were on a study tour of
the nation's capital. When they visited the Supreme Court building, they
paused to have quiet prayer to one side of the plaza at the base of the
steps leading up to the Court. The group was hurriedly approached by a
Supreme Court security officer and told that they could not pray there. He
said they could pray, but they would have to do it somewhere else. So they
moved off the grounds, stood in the street gutter, and prayed.

The Court later clarified that the officer had acted to uphold a statute
that bars parades and processions on the Supreme Court grounds. In other
words, the police deemed the ten kids and four adults standing in a circle
and praying as a "parade." This is beginning to sound suspiciously like the
restrictions placed on Jews and Christians by the Muslims who control the
Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

The Washington Post recently did an 'expose' of the tremendous growth of the
intelligence community and counterterrorism organizations since 9/11. They
called the series, "Top Secret America." The Post estimates that more than
850,000 people in America today hold top-secret security clearances. They
say that there are 1,200 government agencies and 1,900 private companies
working on counterterrorism, intelligence, and homeland security in more
than 10,000 locations inside the United States. If this is true, and I've no
doubt that it is, it indicates something very disturbing to me. It means
that we live in such a state of fear -- fear of terrorism, fear of poverty,
fear of offense -- that we have become willing to trade our freedom for some
mystical form of security.

I believe the U.S. is in a meltdown. The Bible says that a culture's
rejection of God will result in the following judgment: "...since they did
not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to
a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done." (Romans 1:28) A depraved
mind is one that cannot think in its own best interest. Sound familiar?

Friends, our culture, our institutions, our citizens are increasingly
rejecting God and the values represented by Judeo-Christianity. We are
growing ever more accepting of atheism, paganism, and false religions like
Islam. In fact, to be blunt, our government's leaders and our courts seem to
blatantly PREFER Islam above Christianity. Trust me. This is not pleasing to
Jehovah God.

Attempts are already in progress to pass 'hate speech' laws that will soon
remake our nation into a mirror image of Europe. It's already illegal to
preach or teach certain tenets of Christianity in public in Canada and in
much of Europe. In England, the practical policy is: "You can be a Christian
at home, but not in public. Keep it to yourself."

I believe physical persecution of Christians is on its way to America. Now
is the time for all believers to prepare spiritually for the tests ahead.
Study the example of Stephen in Acts 6 and 7 . He is God's example to us of
how to stand for the Truth no matter what the cost -- and how greatly God's
Spirit will inspire and use us when we do. Our reward is ahead. Let's not
faint in our minds at this critical time of the Church's last days on this
earth.
