explanation for the origin of the Universe, there's a growing chorus of
doubters among the world astrophysics community, led by the fascinating new
work of Wun-Yi Shu at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan who has
developed an innovative new description of the Universe in which the roles
of time space and mass are related in new kind of relativity. Shu's idea is
that time and space are not independent entities but can be converted back
and forth between each other. In his formulation of the geometry of
spacetime, the speed of light is simply the conversion factor between the
two. Similarly, mass and length are interchangeable in a relationship in
which the conversion factor depends on both the gravitational constant G and
the speed of light, neither of which need be constant. In other words, as
the Universe expands, mass and time are converted to length and space and
vice versa as it contracts.

inflated the importance of the Holocaust and wrecked US foreign policy. In
the wake of criticism in Jewish circles, on Wednesday Stone's publicist
issued a mealy-mouthed clarification. Stone failed to retract or amend his
statement that "There's a major lobby in the United States. They are hard
workers. They stay on top of every comment, the most powerful lobby in
Washington. Israel has f---ed up United States foreign policy for years." He
also did not retract his view that Jews use the Holocaust to control
American foreign policy... As Stone put it, "The fact that the Holocaust is
still a very important, vivid and current matter today is, in fact, a great
credit to the very hard work of *a broad coalition of people* committed to
the remembrance of this atrocity." (Emphasis added.) Stone still believes
that the rounding up and exterminating of three-quarters of Europe's Jews is
really not as notable or morally troubling as high Russian wartime
casualties, but it's not *solely* Jews' fault that people don't share
Stone's views. Arguably even more despicable that Stone's display of Jew
hatred was manner in which it was received. On the one hand, there was the

Laboratory is moving the military toward sending more autonomous systems
instead of Soldiers on search-and-rescue missions, a top priority in the
most dangerous mission areas. Army researchers call it the Robotic Tentacle
Manipulator, a developmental project that expands on snake robotics research
introduced at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute, an ARL-funded
effort through its robotics Collaborative Technology Alliance initiative. This
new work has resulted in the arrangement of the bases of several snakes in a
circular array that functions like a team using multiple parts of their
bodies to manipulate an object, scan a room or handle improvised explosive
devices. This snake-robot is scalable; it can be built however large or
small as a subsystem to a larger platform like iRobot's rugged system
Warrior, which travels over rough terrain and climbs stairs.

of them secretly pull sensitive data off users' phones and ship them off to
third parties without notification. That's a major concern that has been
bubbling up in privacy and security circles. The data can include full
details about users' contacts, their pictures, text messages and internet
and search histories. The third parties can include advertisers and
companies that analyse data on users. The information is used by companies
to target ads and learn more about their users. The danger, though, is that
the data can become vulnerable to hacking and used in identity theft if the
third party isn't careful about securing the information.

his marriage. But today Anne Rice became the first pop culture figure I know
that decided to break up with Christians, and she did it using facebook. On
her official website she posted the following announcement via her facebook
feed this afternoon:"I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of
Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to
be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to
be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be
anti-life. In the name of ...Christ, I quit Christianity and being
Christian. Amen." I am not sure what sparked this outburst or if it is just
a rant that will later be tempered with something else a little less
emotional. I know that she has long spoken out in interviews that she
struggles with some of the Catholic Church's stands on issues . But she has
also eloquently spoken out about her deep spiritual need for Christ.

given the right special effects. But can real-life technologies perform
these kinds of mind-reading "tricks" too? While we can't use a device to
recreate elaborate and shared dreamscapes yet, it may surprise you just how
much existing technologies that read dreams and minds can do. One of the
researchers on the forefront of such technology is Jack Gallant, a
neuroscientist at the University of California, Berkeley. Gallant has spent
the past 10 years heading a neuroscience and psychology lab at Berkeley
whose mandate is to tap into the mind to see what it sees. Gallant does this
by showing people images and movies while taking a functional magnetic
resonance imaging (fMRI) scan of their brains. He uses brain-pattern
analysis and computer algorithms to analyze the fMRI scans and build a model
of the subject's visual system. Using the model, Gallant can then have his
subject watch a completely new movie and reproduce the images the subject
has seen with very good accuracy. In other words, he can take the pictures
right out of our heads.

in a statement. Naturally-grown joints would likely last longer than the
current generation of artificial mechanisms, he said. With aging populations
and many people under 65 requiring replacement surgery, there is a real
danger patients will outlive metallic joints and require a second gruelling
operation late in life. In the experiments, Mao and colleagues removed the
forelimb thigh joint of 10 rabbits, and then implanted a kind of scaffolding
made of biologically compatible materials.

southern rivers raise serious questions about whether the water is safe for
people to drink. Two University of Calgary professors have been studying how
a small species of minnow reacts to a wide variety of hormone-altering
chemicals detected in several rivers. They found sexual changes both in the
wild populations of the fish and under controlled lab experiments with the
same chemicals, said co-author Hamid Habibi. He said while it's not known
whether the levels are high enough to hurt humans, there is a possible risk
the chemicals could increase cancer rates or developmental abnormalities.
"We think there's a health concern," he said Thursday. "We'd like to be able
to predict these things and reduce that kind of risk." In some locations,
female fish accounted for as much as 90 per cent of the minnow population,
far higher than the normal 55 to 60 per cent. At many of the sites studied,
male fish showed elevated levels of a protein normally high only in the
blood of females. Other areas have produced male fish with female eggs in
their testes.

Alien abductions – they're not what you think

I well remember the pioneering research that my late friend, apologetics
teacher David Lewis, used to present to eager audiences. David had many
interests, but specialized in Israel.
When he told me once that he was preparing for a UFO conference, I was
intrigued to say the least. The sight of this regal gentleman sitting with
the tinfoil hats was comical and fascinating at the same time.
When David revealed to me that he had discovered a key to understanding the
so-called "alien abductions," I leaned in.
"Jim," he said, "Christians who call on the name of the Lord are protected
in these situations."
Now, you can dismiss him (or us) as fundamentalist goofs, but I have since
discussed the subject with quite a few researchers, and they reinforce
David's contention. An amazing new book adds further insight.
Authors/researchers David Ruffino and Joseph Jordan have crafted an
incredibly absorbing book, "Unholy Communion: The Alien Abduction
Phenomenon, Where It Originates and How It Stops." Kudos to this duo for
having the courage to take on such a topic. Those who think it fringe are
not the audience, anyway.
Before we get into the meat of the book, note that there is a riveting
section, in which personal testimonies add rich layers to the investigation.
You'll read this section in one sitting!
The subject of UFO encounters and abductions has permeated the culture:
Everyone from secularists to the religious have embraced the subject.
Ruffino and Jordan take an approach that sets them apart.
Both Jordan and Ruffino, in their early years, dabbled in New Age and
various other philosophies before becoming Christians. They feel that the
knowledge gained has aided their UFO research, from the opposite spectrum.
Their conviction that UFO encounters have a decidedly sinister aspect is not
totally unique, but, combined with the biblical approach taken, the whole
phenomenon is presented in a compelling light.
The linchpin of "Unholy Communion" is the assertion that victims of these
attacks from entities we don't fully understand can end them by invoking the
name of Jesus Christ. This adds credence to the notion that the entities are
in fact demonic and not the product of higher intelligence elsewhere in the
universe.
The authors are not afraid to take on the "sacred cows" of ufology:
"It is our contention that in excess of 60 years, those in defense of the
'aliens,' who have championed their cause and who have been in the spotlight
for those decades have had more than adequate time to present their case,"
the authors write. "The thing is that their clients, those same entities
that claim to be extraterrestrial, have never made an attempt to come to
court to speak for themselves."
Obviously, one has only to watch History Channel specials on UFOs to realize
there is quite a cottage industry related to the "aliens." The major
spokespersons do in fact have a stake in advancing the argument that these
entities are from far-off planets. Even our government, with its bankrolling
of odd projects like SETI, is advancing the idea that beings from beyond our
"community" are attempting to contact us.
If Ruffino and Jordan are correct, this is a fatal error judgment.
"Unholy Communion" also makes the marvelous point that ancient Greek and
Roman mythologies parallel quite well with the accounts of Noah and the
"Nephilim" of his day. These beings, still shrouded somewhat in mystery,
could very well have given rise to the myths of ancient civilizations. The
question is, are they preparing to make a return into the realm inhabited by
human beings?
Ruffino and Jordan make another compelling point: Those who are deceived
about the true identity of the "aliens" are not confined to the secular or
even atheistic philosophers (such as Carl Sagan) – they are populating the
church, as well.
"The sad part is that even in the Christian church there is a growing
delusion that holds to the same belief where UFOs and intelligent life in
the universe is concerned," the authors contend. "The lie has gone out for
many years and many now believe it."
This gullibility within the church is one of the chief reasons "Unholy
Communion" was written, in an attempt to bring discernment at least to
Christian believers.
Finally, the authors present very clearly the "antidote" to this blatant
deception, and present a very clear gospel message.
In this age of mystery and uncertainty, "Unholy Communion" is perhaps one of
the best exposures of evil on the market.

On June 17, Georgetown University held the event "Evangelicals & Muslims:
Perspectives on Mission & Partnership" at its Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal
Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. The last of its four panel
discussions wrestled with the question: "Can Muslims and Christians be
Partners in Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation?"
The crowd, at least 100 strong, consisted largely, if not exclusively, of
professors and students. The panelists were Muqtedar Khan, professor of
international relations at the University of Delaware and director of its
Islamic Studies program; Louay Safi, of Indiana University and Purdue
University; Chris Seiple, president of the Institute of Global Engagement;
and David Shenk, a consultant for Eastern Mennonite Missions.
Khan, who spoke first, refused to appear on a 2007 academic panel with an
IDF veteran who had served in the West Bank, yet somehow maintains a veneer
of moderation. A fairly charismatic speaker, he got off the ground quickly
by claiming a moral equivalence between Pat Robertson and Osama bin Laden.
"We must condemn the extremists in our midst," he said, patting himself on
the back for denouncing bin Laden. While Robertson has undoubtedly made
controversial statements, comparing him with bin Laden, whose terrorist
organization has murdered thousands of people in the United States and
abroad, is appalling and absurd.
Khan labored to prove his ecumenical bona fides by asserting that
evangelicals and Muslims are the two most marginalized groups in the United
States. If one needs proof, he noted rather bizarrely, just look at the
make-up of the U.S. Supreme Court, whose members represent neither group.
Khan failed to note the obvious demographic error with his analogy: surveys
indicate that evangelicals make up at least a quarter of the country's
population (or over 70 million people), while reliable figures placed the
Muslim population at about 1.4 million in 2008. The audience nodded and
murmured with approval at this statistical sleight-of-hand.
And, of course, what's a panel discussion on religion without the gratuitous
insertion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? In Khan's own words, "Muslims
and Christians make up two-thirds of the world's population. What is a
major, if not the major, thing they have in common?" Why, their "partnership
in pain" under Israeli occupation. Evangelical Christians, Khan added, must
reject the pro-Israel majority of their brethren, who, through their support
of Israel, are helping to inflict the "greatest oppression that Muslims
suffer." No mention was made of the pain of Palestinian Christians under
their Muslim brethren, nor of the oppression suffered by Muslims at the
hands of their co-religionists.

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
On this week's edition of "The Hal Lindsey Report": Under the leadership of
President Obama, Israeli-US relations have taken quite a beating. His
'popularity' ratings in Israel are in the single digits. The Israeli public
simply does not trust him and they feel like America has thrown Israel under
the bus.
Apparently, that didn't bother the Administration and it was "full speed
ahead" in the drive to cozy up to the Arab-Muslim world. It seemed that no
cost was too great -- even abandoning Israel -- if it accomplished the
President's goal of American-Muslim affinity.
But now we know that there really was a point at which the cost became too
great. The Democrat National Committee recently realized that it was many
millions of dollars down in its fundraising for the upcoming mid-term
elections. And it was glaringly apparent that the constituency from which
the giving had dried up was the American Jewish community. So, as I reported
a couple of weeks ago, the White House went into damage control mode and
started a charm offensive toward Israel and the Jewish community.
White House operatives fanned out and began to sweet talk the Jewish
organizations here in the States. President Obama invited Prime Minister
Netanyahu back to the White House and, evidently, promised that he'd be a
better host this time than he was last March. He might even allow himself to
be seen in public with the Prime Minister and certainly wouldn't stomp out
of any meetings and leave the PM sitting, staring at the walls.
So Netanyahu returned and everyone made nice before the cameras. Obama even
walked Netanyahu out to his car and added some extra pumps to his farewell
handshake!
This past week, an Assistant Secretary of State appeared before a Jewish
audience and confirmed that, indeed, "Israel is a vital ally and cornerstone
of our regional security commitments." Now, that sounds pretty good at
first, but I think it woefully understates the case. Israel is not just a
"vital ally" in that region. Israel is our ONLY ally in the Middle East.
What's more, unlike our other friends in the area who are simply 'allies of
convenience,' Israel and the United States are natural allies because we
share common values, freedoms, ideals, goals, ideologies, and respect for
human rights and the law. We even share a common Bible. Many Israeli
citizens were born and reared in the US. The Mosaic Law is the foundation of
our own law. And our rule of law is a big part of what makes America so
successful. To say Israel is anything less than our greatest ally --
especially in the Middle East -- is to be less than clear-eyed or honest.
Yet, despite all this, the Bible says that eventually Israel will stand
completely alone and friendless against the entire world.
Where's America?
I believe these are dangerous days for the United States. Paul predicts
that, in the last days, "perilous times" will come. He also describes what I
believe will be the condition of the world's most Christian nation in those
days. Here is his portrait: "...men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of
money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy, unloving (one translation says 'without natural affection'),
unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having a form of godliness but denying its power...."
If I didn't know better, I would say Paul had just spent the evening
watching network television (and flipping over occasionally to MSNBC). Could
you paint a better picture of America at this very moment?
Jesus even described the Western church in these days. He said, "Because you
say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' -- and do
not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked...." He
also declared that since we were so self-absorbed and influenced by the
world's decadence that we would be neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm. And
that made Jesus nauseous.
So, now I can see why Israel will be completely alone in the future. America
won't matter anymore.
However, though God's People will face terrible times in the future, they
will not be completely abandoned. Jesus Himself will return to fight for
them. And for those of us who have accepted the pardon He died to purchase?
The news is even better. We won't be here for those terrible times. You see,
we will be where Jesus is because He will snatch us away before those
troubles begin.
As we say in Texas, if that ain't Good News, I don't know what is!

A series of e-mails from the Department of Homeland
Security,<http://www.dhs.gov/xutil/contactus.shtm>the federal agency
that has warned
of a threat from "right-wing extremists" like those worried about national
sovereignty, <http://wnd.com/images/dhs-rightwing-extremism.pdf> reveals the
agency has held a series of meetings with Muslims who apparently rejected
the government's request to help counter violent extremism.
The new e-mails

uncovered by Judicial Watch, <http://www.judicialwatch.org/> the
government-watchdog organization that hunts down and seeks the prosecution
of government corruption.
The e-mails relate to several days of meetings the DHS held Jan. 27-28
between DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and various Arab, Muslim, Sikh and
South Asian "community leaders."

The e-mails reveal the attendees included Imad Hamad, the Midwest regional
director of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, who Judicial
Watch reported has been documented by investigative reporter Debbie
Schlussel as being linked to the Marxist-Leninist terrorist group Popular
Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Judicial Watch reported in a 2002 interview on Detroit television Hamad
"supported a Palestine Authority TV program that urged children to become
suicide bombers, calling the program 'patriotic.'"

Another participant, according to Judicial Watch, was Salam al-Mayarati, who
founded the Los-Angeles-based Muslim Public Affairs Council. Judicial Watch
said al-Mayarati "has long been criticized for his extremist views and
statements. In 1999 former House Minority leader Richard Gephardt, D-Mo.,
withdrew his nomination of al-Mayarati to the National Commission on
Terrorism because of al-Mayarati's extremist politics."
Further, the e-mails show that on Feb. 4 David O'Leary, DHS Office of
Legislative Affairs, wrote to David

deputy officer for programs and compliance in the agency's
civil-rights division:
"Gordon Lederman of Sen. Lieberman's Staff called me asking about the 2-day
HSAC meeting last week with American Muslim and Arab groups. He was called
by a reporter who told him (Muslim Public Affairs Council, Islamic Society
of North America) and Muslim American Society 'rejected the ideas' of
soliciting their help with countering violent extremism and were 'angry and
indignant'."
WND calls and e-mails to DHS, asking for an explanation of the e-mail that
suggests prominent Muslim groups rejected the government's request for help
in minimizing "violent extremism," were not returned.
"Please loop in proper … contacts and call me to discuss," the e-mail from
O'Leary said.
Another e-mail in the

Napolitano had promised to the various Muslim leaders there would be
"community participation" in an antiviolence extremism task force, they
would have access to regular, quarterly meetings with her, there would be a
seminar on "cultural competency for DHS leadership" and there would be an
"honest and full discussion of legitimate grievances from members of these
communities about DHS policies that are ineffective and have a deleterious,
humiliating impact on Muslim, Arab, Sikh and South Asian American
communities. "
Judicial Watch noted one of the groups attending was the Islamic Society of
North America, which was named as an unindicted co-conspirator by the
federal government in a plot by the now-defunct Holy Land Foundation to fund
Hamas.
The report also said an internal DHS "talking points" memo stated,
"Communicate that DHS understands the need for enhanced partnership with the
Muslim, Sikh, South Asian and Arab groups, including those present at the
meeting. … You should note the importance of sharing information from a
policy perspective and on threats to specific Muslim, Arab, South Asian and
Sikh communities."
"I fail to see how consorting with radicals helps the DHS protect the United
States," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "The Obama administration
is bending over backward to cater to radical Muslim organizations in the
name of political correctness.
"This is a dangerous political game that could put American citizens at
risk. Some of these meeting participants have no business helping Janet
Napolitano establish our homeland-security policies," he said.
Among the names of the various lists of attendees were James Zogby of the
Arab American Institute, Amardeep Singh of the Sikh Coalition, Deep Iyer of
the South Asian Americans, Nawar Shor of the American Arab
Anti-Discrimination Committee, al-Marayati of the Muslim Public Affairs
Council, Hamad of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Michigan
and Ingrid Mattson of the Islamic Society of North America.

a Department
of Homeland Security report warned against the possibility of violence by
unnamed "right-wing extremists" concerned about illegal immigration,
increased federal power, restrictions on firearms, abortion and the loss of
U.S. sovereignty. The report singled out returning war veterans as
particular threats.
The April 7, 2009, report, titled "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic
and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and
Recruitment,"<http://wnd.com/images/dhs-rightwing-extremism.pdf>stated
"threats from white supremacist and violent antigovernment groups
during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to
carry out violent acts."
Earlier in 2009, the Missouri Information Analysis Center issued a
report<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=93067>that
linked conservative groups to domestic terrorism and warned law
enforcement to watch for vehicles with bumper stickers promoting Ron
Pauland Chuck Baldwin. It also warned police to watch out for
individuals with
"radical" ideologies based on Christian views, such as opposing illegal
immigration, abortion and federal taxes.
Ultimately, Chief James Keathley of the Missouri State Patrol said the
release of the report caused him to review the procedures through which the
report was released.
It had listed more than 32 characteristics police should watch for as signs
or links to domestic terrorists, which could threaten police officers, court
officials and infrastructure targets.
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC said police were "instructed to look for
Americans who were concerned about unemployment, taxes, illegal immigration,
gangs, border security, abortion, high costs of living, gun restrictions,
FEMA, the IRS, the Federal Reserve and the North American Union–SPP–North
American Community."
The Missouri documents, according to ALIPAC, also said "potential domestic
terrorists might like gun shows, shortwave radios, combat movies, movies
with white male heroes, Tom Clancy novels, and presidential candidates Ron
Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin!"
"When many of us read these Missouri Documents we felt that the false
connections, pseudo research, and political attacks found in these documents
could have been penned by" the Southern Poverty Law Center and
Anti-Defamation League, said William Gheen of ALIPAC. "We were shocked to
see credible law-enforcement agencies disseminating the same kind of
over-the-top political propaganda distributed by these groups."
