from Western countries seem to be slowly becoming infertile. Recent research
seems to back this up as well, with average sperm counts having dropped to
half of what they were 50 years ago. According to reports, nearly 20 percent
of men between the ages of 18 and 25 have sperm counts that are abnormally
low. To put this in perspective, consider the fact that in the 1940s, men
had an average of about 100 million sperm cells per millimeter of semen
(m/ml). Today, the average is around 60m/ml. Those among the 20 percent with
abnormal levels have less than 20m/ml. So what is the cause behind
decreasing sperm counts? Realistically, there is probably more than just one
cause. Environmental toxins, synthetic food and water additives, and
estrogenic substances in food are all likely culprits.

Unless you live in Europe, your last meal probably contained genetically
modified ingredients - 80 per cent of soya grown worldwide is now
genetically engineered, for instance. Yet while modified plants are rapidly
taking over the planet's farms, the same cannot be said for GM animals.
There's the occasional flurry of reports about glowing rabbits or marmosets,
but no one is yet eating beef from bioengineered bullocks. The main reason
is that the genetic engineering of animals - with the exception of mice -
has been a slow, tedious process needing a lot of money and not a little
luck. Behind the scenes, though, a quiet revolution has been taking place.
Thanks to a set of new tricks and tools, modifying animals is becoming a lot
easier and more precise. That is not only going to transform research, it
could also transform the meat and eggs you eat and the milk you drink. The
first transgenic animals were produced by injecting DNA into eggs,
implanting the eggs in animals and then waiting weeks or months to see if
any offspring had incorporated the extra DNA. Often fewer than 1 in 100 had,
making this a long, expensive process. "That's just really inefficient,"
says Scott Fahrenkrug, a geneticist at the University of Minnesota in St
Paul.

Ness monster in a remote Siberian lake. Locals say that 'Nesski' has

resembles the classic long-necked image of Scotland's fabled monster. It has
also been called 'snake-like', while other accounts suggest a large fin and
huge tail. The latest mysterious death of a 59-year-old man last week has
fuelled demands for a proper probe into what lurks beneath the surface of
Chany, one of Russia's largest freshwater lakes. 'I was with my friend...
some 300 yards from the shore,' said 60-year-old Vladimir Golishev. ''He
hooked something huge on his bait, and he stood up in the boat to reel it
in. But it pulled with such force that he overturned the boat. I was in
shock - I had never seen anything like it in my life. I pulled off my
clothes and swam for the shore, not daring hope I would make it.' He said
his friend was pulled under the surface, a description in common with
earlier incidents. 'He didn't make it - and they have found no remains.'
Three years ago 32-year-old Mikhail Doronin - a special services soldier -
was lost. 'The lake was calm, but suddenly the boat was rocking, and it
capsized,' said his 80-year-old grandmother Nina, who has lived beside the
lake all her life. 'Something of an awesome scale lives in the lake, but I

According to Matt Smith of Project Gulf Impact, the situation in the Gulf is
quickly deteriorating. Matt Smith and his crew have been working on a
feature length film documenting the Gulf oil crisis. In their travels during
the past three weeks they have witnessed many different events such as two
different types of sand on the beaches, where BP has attempted to cover up
the oil stained and Corexit covered beaches. *"There are whispers that are
becoming louder, people in the area are talking about evacuations" *Matt was
quoted as saying in a radio interview on Intel Hub Radio. Others such as
Greg Evensen, a former state trooper with many insider contacts, have been
quoted as saying, "evacuations are imminent." As the situation compounds and
there is no end in sight, evacuations seem like the only viable option. If
something is not done to get the people out they will most likely become
overwhelmed by what some are describing as chemical rape. Will the
evacuations be forced? What will happen if some of the locals disobey a
mandatory evacuation order? Where will people be relocated to? These are all
valid concerns that surround this issue. Tensions have risen as Gulf
residents and people in the region seems to be getting increasingly angry
over the BP oil spill.

unmanned flight. Defence firm BAE Systems today officially unveiled its
first ever high-tech unmanned stealth jet. The Taranis, named after the
Celtic god of thunder, is about the same size as a Hawk jet and is equipped
with stealth equipment and an 'autonomous' artificial intelligence system.
The plane will test the possibility of developing the first ever autonomous
stealthy Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) that would ultimately be capable
of precisely striking targets at long range, even in another continent. The
trial aircraft cost £143 million pounds to construct and spearheads BAE's
drive to convince the Ministry of Defence to invest in the next generation
of unmanned aircraft. Almost invisible to ground radar, it is designed to
travel at high jet speeds and cover massive distances between continents.
The plane is built to carry out intelligence, surveillance and
reconnaissance on enemy territory using onboard sensors.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Five percent of the population of Key West, Florida
-- more than 1,000 people -- have been infected at some point with the
dengue virus, government researchers reported on Tuesday.
Most probably did not even know it, but the findings show the sometimes
deadly infection is making its way north into the United States, the
researchers said.
"We're concerned that if dengue gains a foothold in Key West, it will travel
to other southern cities where the mosquito that transmits dengue is
present, like Miami," said Harold Margolis, chief of the dengue branch at
the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"These cases represent the reemergence of dengue fever in Florida and
elsewhere in the United States after 75 years," Margolis said in a
statement.
"These people had not traveled outside of Florida, so we need to determine
if these cases are an isolated occurrence or if dengue has once again become
endemic in the continental United States."
Dengue is the most common virus transmitted by mosquitoes, infecting 50
million to 100 million people every year and killing 25,000 of them.
It can cause classic flu-like symptoms but can also take on a hemorrhagic
form that causes internal and external bleeding and sudden death. Companies
are working on a vaccine but there is not any effective drug to treat it.
Dengue was eradicated in the United States in the 1940s but a few locally
acquired U.S. cases have been confirmed along the Texas-Mexico border since
the 1980s. More cases have been reported recently in Mexico and the
Caribbean.
After 27 cases of dengue were reported in Florida in 2009, scientists from
the CDC and the Florida Department of Health took blood samples from 240
randomly chosen Key West residents.
Of these, 5 percent had active dengue infections or antibodies to the virus,
showing they had been infected, the researchers told the International
Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases being held in Atlanta.

hearing and in the mainstream media, it is useful to recall this famous
statement from the Ayatollah Khomeini:
Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not

countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world.

Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all this mean that
Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those
foolish souls who make such a claim.
It is important to note that this notorious and important quotation comes
from Amir Taheri's book, Holy Terror: Inside the World of Islamic Terrorism,
Adler & Adler, 1987, pp. 241-3.

Honor killing in Pakistan: Muslim guns down his mother for leaving the house
Sharia dictates that a woman is not to leave the house without permission
from her husband or father. "Woman gunned down by son over 'honour,'" from
the Daily Times, July 14 (thanks to Block Ness):
KARACHI: A man shot his mother dead allegedly over honour at their house
in Shershah police precincts on Tuesday.
According to SHO Fida Hussain, Haleema Basheer, 40, lived in a house in
lane No 13 on Muhammadi Road, and was killed by her son Muneer.
SP Naeem Sheikh said the woman had left the house for a few days thrice
in the past, and Muneer had been scoffed at by the neighbours because of
that.
However, when his mother returned home after leaving the house for the
fourth time, he shot her dead, the SP added.
Police said Muneer was an unemployed drug addict, while his father was a
labourer and had four more children with the victim....
