I WILL BE WITH YOU -- Judges 6:16 NIV
The LORD answered, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the
Midianites together."
Gideon was not the first, nor was he the last person God would commission to
accomplish a seemingly impossible task. The Midianites were obviously very
powerful. They had driven Israel into the hills where they hid in caves and
any other places they could find to fortify themselves against attack.
Gideon, a farmer, was forced to thresh his grain in a winepress - a hidden
pit where the Midianites probably wouldn't find him - instead of a hilltop
where the chaff could be blown away by the wind. Now God was telling Gideon
to come out of hiding, and to go and fight the Midianites. Gideon, a
frightened farmer, was being told to lead a rag-tag army of frightened
people against a huge, formidable foe.
Gideon was terrified. But God said, "I will be with you." Gideon could
only see the impossibility of what God was asking, but God said, "I will be
with you." Gideon could only see the practical, human side of the
situation, a side that said there was no way Israel could defeat Midian, but
God said, "I will be with you."
Since He blew the breath of life into Adam, God has never told any person to
go do something alone, on his own, without God's help. It's you and me who
came up with that ridiculous concept, not God. Each and every day, He says
to you and me, "I will be with you. I am right here. right beside you.
Don't be afraid. You can do it. I love you. You are my child, my precious
child. I will not abandon you."
Listen to what God is saying to you today. And be comforted. In every
challenge God gives you, realize He is there with you to make sure you are
successful. Every time the road ahead of you looks rocky or shaky or
uncertain or frightening, remember God is saying to you, "I will be with
you."
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew
28:20b
