Seven of Wands Definitions

The Seven of Wands suggests finding new uses for the action.
Discovering that the

action is making changes into new areas. Making the action go further
than it was

originally intended.

1. Book of Thoth - Valour - Seven of Wands

The Seven of Wands is called Valour. Energy feels itself at its last gasp; it

struggles desperately, and may be overcome. This card brings out the
defect inherent

in the idea of Mars. Patriotism, so to speak, is not enough.

The discipline of the army is falling apart - it is now up to the
individual effort

of the soldiers.

2. Golden Dawn - Lord of Valour

Forceful and decisive action in the matter at hand, bringing to bear
the full force

of emotional involvement in the situation; swift emotional ordeals leading to a

refinement of personality or spiritual essence; persons united by anger.

3. Mathers: 7 of Wands

Success, Gain, Advantage, Profit, Victory.

Reversed Card meanings

Indecision, Doubt, Hesitation, Embarrassment, Anxiety.

4. Etteilla: Seven of Wands

Discussion, Interview, Conference, Symposium, Conversation, Dissertation,

Deliberation, Talk. Word, Pronunciation, Language, Idiom, Dialect, Negotiation,

Purchase, Barter, Evaluation, Commerce, Trade, Correspondence. Speak,
Say, Utter,

Confer, Chatter, Chat, Share, Prattle, Converse.

Reversed Card meanings

Indecision, Indecisiveness, Uncertainty, Perplexity, Fickleness, Flightiness,

Variation, Variety, Diversity, Hesitate, Hesitation. Waver, Vacillate,
Changeability.

5. Etteilla: Seven of Wands

Discussion, Interview, Conference, Symposium, Conversation, Dissertation,

Deliberation, Talk. Word, Pronunciation, Language, Idiom, Dialect, Negotiation,

Purchase, Barter, Evaluation, Commerce, Trade, Correspondence. Speak,
Say, Utter,

Confer, Chatter, Chat, Share, Prattle, Converse.

Reversed Card meanings

Indecision, Indecisiveness, Uncertainty, Perplexity, Fickleness, Flightiness,

Variation, Variety, Diversity, Hesitate, Hesitation. Waver, Vacillate,
Changeability.

6. Thierens: 7 of Wands

TRADITION

Discussion, negotiation, conference, conversation, deliberation, dissertation;

measure; correspondence, words and language; generally success, but
there may be also

some hesitation, uncertainty, irresolution, light-heartedness.

THEORY

All this is very strikingly typifying the element Air on the Seventh house, that

of the airy Libra, house of relationship, marriage, meeting of the Self and the

Not-self, which rules contracts, books and manuscripts. Here only
comes 'discussion'

into play. In the Fifth house the individuality was alone, and for
discussion you

want two persons.

CONCLUSION

Discussion, relation, negotiation, entertainment, discourse, lecture, reasonable

explanation, contract, marriage proposed, society-rulership and orders
given out to

inferiors, arrangements, regularisation and measurement; measure,
proportion, rules

given for conduct. There is uncertainty or opportunism in so far as
rules are given

in relation to circumstances, which may change. The personal interests
are brought

in, in relation with those of others. Fair weather.

The Seven of Wands

The Lord of Valour can best be summed up by the phrase 'feel the fear
and do it anyway'. It is a card about encountering demanding and
formidable situations in life, and having the courage to be true to
your own desires, ambitions and needs.

Life is full of challenges. And sometimes we find it difficult to
seize the moment, grasp our opportunities and live life to the full.
The 7 of Wands comes up to indicate that you are facing one of those
momentous happenings in life, and advises you to believe in yourself,
grab your courage in both hands and go forward.

This will not only apply to difficult things - it can also point out
to you that there is an opportunity to make your wildest dream come
true, if only you will throw caution to the winds and dive right in!

The Lord of Valour is an exciting card, but when it comes up you will
probably also feel a bit apprehensive. Don't let caution dampen your
enthusiasm. Go ahead! Fight for what you want. If you do, you'll stand
a good chance of getting it.

Because Wands are a suit much concerned (at their deepest level) with
the ethics of right living, there is another instance when this card
might show in a reading. That is when you find yourself in a position
where you are forced to fight for what you believe in. Whilst
sometimes reluctant to take up the fight, you will feel compelled to
stand up and be counted. Identify this aspect if you have the Aeon
(the Last Judgement) or Adjustment (Justice) coming up. Often, if we
acquit ourselves well in times like these, we will achieve major
progress in our own spiritual journey.

And remember - there's no courage without fear. If you don't feel
fearful, courage is not required!!

Working with the Seven of Wands

The Lord of Valour reminds us to take stock of our inner reserves of
courage and strength. It will often come up to mark times where great
change is in the air, where momentous decisions need to be made, and
where we must grasp the moment.

On a day ruled by the 7 of Wands, the most important thing is to be
alert for opportunities and great chances. Often these come up
completely out of the blue, and must be seized without hesitation.
This card often marks those apparently coincidental occurrences which
begin a chain of events that leads us into a decisive and fulfilling
life change. So pay special attention to everything that happens
today.

And at the same time, keep a running check on your own feelings. If
today is the day upon which your dearest dream comes true, how will
you feel? Are you ready to let change run in your life? Are you
prepared to take risks? And do you feel that today, you trust
yourself?

If you encounter resistance of any sort on a day ruled by the Lord of
Valour, remember that this card is about being true to yourself,
following the voice of your own heart, and protecting your needs and
hopes.

This is a day in which you need to believe in yourself. So hold hard
against anything which interferes with that. Refuse to allow anything
(or anybody) to undermine you. And keep in touch with what you believe
to be true. And if you do all those things, today could bring miracles
into your life!!

Affirmation: I welcome life and embrace opportunity.

SEVEN OF WANDS

Attribution - Mars in Leo

Lord of Valour

The suit of Wands represents the element of fire. It is the intuitive
function, the libido, the primitive life force.

Some associations are – career, creativity, energy, desire, action,
intuition, sex, movement, victory, enthusiasm, confidence,
competition, magic and excellence.

Sevens represent choice, wisdom, fate, divine order, the need to make
decisions, mysticism, change, turning points, magic, rebellion,
eccentricity, the completion of a phase of cycle.

In the RWS version, the figure has one boot and one shoe on.
Eccentricity is perfectly acceptable as long as no one is being hurt.
If you want to wear one shoe and one boot – go right ahead! Be
yourself. Put bananas in your coffee. Read magazines from back to
front. Keep goldfish in the bathroom. It is your right to tell people
to back off; you can put ketchup on your tuna fish sandwich if you
want to.

Rider-Waite Imagery

A man stands on top of a hill wielding a wand. Below him 6 other wands
are raised. He has the position of advantage, the high ground. He is
flexible in his approach as seen by two different types of footwear.

The Pictorial Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite (1911)

A young man on a craggy eminence brandishing a staff; six other staves
are raised towards him from below.

Divinatory Meanings

Upright: It is a card of valour, for, on the surface, six are
attacking one, who has, however, the vantage position. On the
intellectual plane, it signifies discussion, wordy strife; in
business–negotiations, war of trade, barter, competition. It is
further a card of success, for the combatant is on the top and his
enemies may be unable to reach him.

Reversed: Perplexity, embarrassments, anxiety. It is also a caution
against indecision.

Some Additional Meanings of the Lesser Arcana

Seven: dark child.

Be prepared to personally deal with any difficulties that arise.

Choose your battles carefully and don't waste your effort on petty
trifles when bigger problems need solutions.

Risking something new.

Maintain your values.

Don't compromise or "settle" for whatever you can get.

Take a stand and make it clear what is important to you.

You are coping well and won't be taken advantage of.

Stiff competition in business or personal issues.

Someone feels like an enemy.

REVERSED

Your position is upheld and you are stronger for it.

Hesitancy will cause great loss.
