Justice Tarot Card Meanings

Justice tarot card meanings Key Words for the Justice Tarot Card Meanings

Truth

Balance

Justice

Equality

Congruence

Admission

Examination

Accountability

Introduction to the Justice Tarot Card Meanings:

Benjamin Disraeli, a British Prime Minister and Novelist once said
"Justice is truth in action." This is a perfect summary for the
Justice card. When we observe this card, we see our lady Justice means
business. Her posture and demeanor express a no-nonsense aura - she
takes no prisoners - there are no excuses - no wishy washy stuff with
her. She is here to expose the truth and bring to light those issues
which require our attention.

The Justice card's prime message is that of accountability. Justice
appears to us when we know we should do something and we're not doing
it. Maybe it's as simple as knowing we ought not to have that third
doughnut - perhaps it's as serious as returning something that was
stolen back to its rightful owner. Whatever the case, Justice serves
as a loud message from our conscience. Remember Jiminy Cricket in the
cartoon Pinocchio? The Justice card is to a reading as Jiminy Cricket
is to Pinocchio - a little (sometimes nagging) voice that lets us know
we should do the right thing.

Justice in a reading is a call to examine what we've done in the past,
contemplate future actions - balance the equation - take
responsibility and be sure in all matters we remain as even-minded as
possible in our endeavors. Keep in mind the Justice card is
staight-forward and to the point. There is no hiding, no making
excuses, no procrastination. Lady Justice cuts down all illusions and
exposes the heart of the matter for what it is. The Justice card can
help you take a look at your responsibilities and obligations and see
that you've been falling short of the mark.

This is not a negative experience. There is no judgment or disapproval
here. Justice simply exposes the facts as they are with no bias.

On a more banal level, pulling the Justice card can also indicate
legal matters, legal paperwork that needs to be sorted out, a court
case or a settling of disputes in a rational, formalized manner.

Key Symbols Relative to Justice Tarot Card Meanings:

This section focuses in on a few select symbols that can help us
further define the Justice Tarot card meanings.

Justice tarot card meanings of the crown Crown: Just as we would
expect, the crown is a symbol of authority, command, and royalty. We
can also gather that Justice is the "crowning feature" of this card.
Lady Justice wearing a crown indicates that she is in a position to
calmly and rationally detect what is true and fair. She is experienced
in the matters of balance, truth, and equality.

.

Justice tarot card meaning of the scale Scale: The scale is a symbol
of equality and balance. It is a perfect visual measure when something
is "out of whack." The scale in all its precision shows us which part
of our life is out of balance - when the scale is tipped more to one
side we know we need to take some corrective action.

.

Justice tarot card meaning of the sword Sword: In the Justice card the
sword represents double-edged action of 1) right-thought and 2)
right-action. The blade cuts through and questions or foggy notions we
may have about a situation. By cutting through the fluff we are able
to clearly identify the areas of our lives that need closer
examination. The sword also indicates that self-examination may be
uncomfortable - but the clearing is for the best and as we cut away
the clutter we will inevitably benefit.

Key Questions Relative to the Justice Tarot Card Meanings:

When contemplating the Justice Tarot card meanings, ask yourself the
following questions:

Is my life out of balance?

What can I do to be more balanced?

Am I being honest with myself?

Am I taking healthy responsibility for my actions?

Where do I place blame for my actions and my life's circumstances?

Have I been neglecting some of my obligations and commitments?

Do I need to take some time to re-examine my life because I'm out of balance?

Can I keep a proper equalibrium - do I have an even temper & even mind?

Justice

Justice (or Adjustment) is numbered eight in some decks and eleven in
others. We see a female figure, holding the scales to represent the
balance between good and evil, right and wrong within our lives. She
also holds the sword which knights us or which claims retribution.

Justice is the supreme Judge. Here we see the effects of Karma, the
idea that everything we do today has either a positive or negative
effect upon our future. Every dark thought or deed weighs against us,
balanced out (hopefully) by every good deed and loving thought.

We can be angels and we can be demons, it is our choice. We shape our
futures by what we do and think now. If we stop blaming other people,
or forces, if things go wrong then we take control of our own lives.
Justice shows us that the natural cycles of the Universe will reflect
back upon us exactly what we expect - so expect joy and happiness!

Working with Adjustment

This card was traditionally called Justice, but in more modern decks
is now named Adjustment. This change reflects one of the deeper
aspects of meaning that the card covers - the requirement for constant
assessment and balancing which opens us to spiritual expansion.

Life is a flowing river of energy - and when it is blocked for any
length of time it behaves exactly as water does..it stagnates. When we
fail to consistently assess our position and attitudes in relation to
life - in general, and on a personal level - we too begin to stagnate.

So on a day ruled by Adjustment, we need to take stock of ourselves.
Have a look at habitual or routine behaviour, and decide whether it is
appropriate to your current state of mind, and position. Sometimes a
thing becomes outdated, and loses its value as we change and alter. If
you find anything like this decide to let go of it, to clear the way
for new more appropriate actions.

Think about the ways in which you approach life - do you feel you're
getting the most out of it, and putting as much as you can into it? If
not, think about why. For some of the fortunate people among us,
happiness and contentment come as a result of simply deciding that
these things are in our lives now, and then living each day reminding
ourselves of that fact. So consider if you are one of those fortunate
people who can simply choose to be happy, fulfilled and
contented...and then do it.

If you are one of those people who cannot, at this time, decide to be
happy, because of surrounding circumstance, try for today, to find
something to be happy about - a little ray of sunshine cutting through
the darkness. It will make a difference to the imbalance you might be
experiencing - go some way toward adjusting your situation.

Affirmation: I move towards balance and harmony.

JUSTICE 11

The Justice card is represented by the number 11/2, the need to
maintain fairness, balance, and honour. The number 11 is a master
number having to do with maintaining the law of man and the law of
heaven.

Attribution - Libra

Rider-Waite Imagery

Justice sits between two gray pillars. She holds a sword of
discernment & justice and scales of balance. Her gown is red for
passion and is trimmed with the flashing/complement green for love.
These are the colors of the Emperor & Empress. The veil is violet, a
royal and spiritual color. It is also a mediating color between red
(passion) and blue (peace). Justice tries to find balance and
equilibrium. She also looks for the perfected form of all things.

The Pictorial Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite (1911)

Part I: The Veil and its Symbols

11. Justice. That the Tarot, though it is of all reasonable antiquity,
is not of time immemorial, is shewn by this card, which could have
been presented in a much more archaic manner. Those, however, who have
gifts of discernment in matters of this kind will not need to be told
that age is in no sense of the essence of the consideration; the Rite
of Closing the Lodge in the Third Craft Grade of Masonry may belong to
the late eighteenth century, but the fact signifies nothing; it is
still the summary of all the instituted and official Mysteries. The
female figure of the eleventh card is said to be Astra, who
personified the same virtue and is represented by the same symbols.
This goddess notwithstanding, and notwithstanding the vulgarian Cupid,
the Tarot is not of Roman mythology, or of Greek either. Its
presentation of justice is supposed to be one of the four cardinal
virtues included in the sequence of Greater Arcana; but, as it so
happens, the fourth emblem is wanting, and it became necessary for the
commentators to discover it at all costs. They did what it was
possible to do, and yet the laws of research have never succeeded in
extricating the missing Persephone under the form of Prudence. Court
de Gebelin attempted to solve the difficulty by a tour de force, and
believed that he had extracted what he wanted from the symbol of the
Hanged Man, "wherein he deceived himself. The Tarot has, therefore,
its justice, its Temperance also and its Fortitude, but, owing to a
curious omission, it does not offer us any type of Prudence, though it
may be admitted that, in some respects, the isolation of the Hermit,
pursuing a solitary path by the light of his own lamp, gives, to those
who can receive it, a certain high counsel in respect of the via
prudenti.

Part II: The Doctrine Behind the Veil

As this card follows the traditional symbolism and carries above all
its obvious meanings, there is little to say regarding it outside the
few considerations collected in the first part, to which the reader is
referred.

It will be seen, however, that the figure is seated between pillars,
like the High Priestess, and on this account it seems desirable to
indicate that the moral principle which deals unto every man according
to his works, while, of course, it is in strict analogy with higher
things; differs in its essence from the spiritual justice which is
involved in the idea of election. The latter belongs to a mysterious
order of Providence, in virtue of which it is possible for certain men
to conceive the idea of dedication to the highest things. The
operation of this is like the breathing of the Spirit where it wills,
and we have no canon of criticism or ground of explanation concerning
it. It is analogous to the possession of the fairy gifts and the high
gifts and the gracious gifts of the poet: we have them or have not,
and their presence is as much a mystery as their absence. The law of
Justice is not however involved by either alternative. In conclusion,
the pillars of Justice open into one world and the pillars of the High
Priestess into another.

On This Day:

Monday January 23, 2012

This is the 23rd day of the year, with 343 days remaining in 2012.

Fact of the Day: boiling water

Salt raises the boiling point of water so it takes longer to boil the
water, but since it makes the water hotter, foods cook faster. In
general, solutes (materials that are soluble in liquids) raise the
boiling point of the liquid since the solute can bind or hold the
water or liquid molecules together ever so slightly. This action does
not allow those molecules to change their form to the gaseous state as
easily resulting in a higher boiling point.

Holidays

Feast day of St. Bernard of Vienne, Saints Clement and Agathangelus,
St. Asclas, St. John the Almsgiver, St. Emerentiana, St. Maimbod, St.
Ildephonsus, and St. Lufthidis.

Bulgaria: Babin Den.

Brazil: Festa do Bonfim.
