*Daily Devotional
*Betty Miller shares her daily devotionals which are based on the book of
Proverbs in the Bible. * * * The Wisdom of God*

*Verses for the Day:*

*Proverbs 21:9-10 (KJV):
**9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling
woman in a wide house.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in
his eyes.
**
**Proverbs 21:9-10 (AMP):
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop (on the flat oriental
roof, exposed to all kinds of weather) than in a house shared with a
nagging, quarrelsome and faultfinding woman.
**10 The soul or life of the wicked craves and seeks evil; his neighbor
finds no favor in his eyes.*

*Thoughts for the Day:*

Today's verses in *Proverbs* are a strong admonition and warning to be
careful about relationships. *Verse 9 *warns that a man should be careful
about choosing a woman for a wife who is a brawler. The Amplified
translation expands on the definition of a brawler as one who is nagging,
quarrelsome and faultfinding. This scripture states that even if the
woman owned a big house, it would not be enough to compensate for the
continual nagging and quarreling that she would direct at her husband. It
goes on to say that dwelling in a corner of the housetop (outside on the
flat roof, exposed to all kinds of weather) would be a better fate than
living with a woman who is a brawler.

This is one reason why it is very important to be led of God when choosing
a mate. It is always better to marry for character than emotion. You will
have to live with good character or bad character day by day. Some people
choose mates by physical and emotional attraction and this is definitely
not the way to go about choosing a lifelong partner. As Christians, we
should be led by the Spirit of God in all of our decisions. We must not
allow our emotions alone to rule us in decision making. We should be led by
the spirit, and then the emotions will follow. The scripture tells us
in *Romans
8:14: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
*

Marriage is the second major choice we make in our lives, and we should
never enter into it without much prayer. To rush into a marriage can be
disastrous. The most important decision of our lives, of course, is our
decision to follow the Lord. This decision is not a one-time declaration,
but a daily determination to follow Jesus above all. So many have failed
the Lord because they chose a man or woman over the Lord.

We find this true throughout the Bible, too. Solomon's heathen wives led
him into idolatry. Samson lost his eyes because of a woman, Delilah. David
committed murder because of passion for Bathsheba.

Our emotions need to be cleansed as they are not the sign of love. The true
definition of love is "God is love." If God is not in a relationship it is
not love, but lust. What this world calls love is really lust since it is
built on what the other person does for me, not what I can do for him or
her. If the other person fails to keep up his end of the bargain, a divorce
occurs because the offended mate is no longer pleased. This is the attitude
of the world's so-called "love." God's love loves without receiving back;
God's love is forgiving and patient. God's love is gentle and kind. God's
love waits. God's love sacrifices. This is the character needed in both
mates to make a marriage work. None of us really know how to love until we
experience and practice God's love. 1 Corinthians 13 gives us a good
definition for real Christ-like love. The word "charity" is the King James
Version's term for "love." If we put out name in the place of "charity" in
this chapter we can see if we pass the test of true love.

When we are born again and become a child of God then we seek to please Him
by doing good. *Verse 10 *tells us that wicked people seek just the
opposite -- they seek to do evil. If you happen to be a neighbor to a
wicked person, they certainly will not find favor in your eyes because
there is no fellowship between darkness and light, nor good and evil. We
are called to pray for and witness to those around us who are evil, so that
they might come to know Jesus as their Saviour.

*Prayer for the Day:*

*Dear Heavenly Father: I am grateful for all the guidelines you have given
us in this wonderful book of Proverbs. Help me to heed the warnings and
apply the wisdom that I find in these pages. Lord, I pray that I will walk
as a godly woman so that I will be a blessing to all of those around me.
Forgive me when I fail to be gracious or impatient with people. May I
apply Your love, wisdom and goodness to all of my daily affairs. Lord,
draw the lost in our neighborhood to Your saving grace. Use me to be a
witness to them. I am claiming their souls for Your kingdom. I ask these
things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.*

The Prayers of Jesus
Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was
raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's
right hand, pleading for us. (Romans 8:34)
Imagine spending time with Jesus when He suddenly turns to you and says,
"Oh, by the way, the devil has been asking for you by name."
"The devil? You mean, like . . . Lucifer himself?"
"Yeah. That's right."
That is what happened to Peter. He and the other disciples had just
celebrated the Last Supper with Jesus when He dropped this revelation on
them: "Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, 'God will
strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' But
after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee
and meet you there" (Matthew 26:31–32).
But Peter replied, "Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert
you" (verse 33).
So Jesus essentially said, "Well, since you brought it up, Rock, let me
tell you something. Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times
that you ever knew Me. And listen to this, Peter: Satan has been asking
excessively that you would be taken out of the care and protection of God."
The good news is that Jesus was praying for Peter. And Jesus is praying for
you. Romans 8:34 says, "Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus
died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place
of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us." Jesus is in your corner. He
is interceding for you.
Bible commentator Robert Murray McCheyne said, "If I could hear Christ
praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet
distance makes no difference. He is praying for me."
Were it not for the prayers of Jesus, I wouldn't stand a chance. Neither
would you.
Summary sentence: Jesus is praying for you right now!

Coffee Break

"Expect His Goodness"

"Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop
fatness." Psalm 65:11

I am believing that this is going to be a good year. By that do I
mean that nothing bad is going to happen? When I say that does it
mean that I don't think that anything will go wrong, that there won't
be trials, pain or suffering? Not at all. This world is tainted by
sin. As long as sin is present there will be heartaches and
tribulation. Jesus Himself said that in this world there would be
tribulation.

When I say that I am believing that this is going to be a good year, I
mean that regardless of what may come our way, we will see the
goodness of the Lord shining through it. We will see Him working all
things together for our good. We will see His power prevail and His
presence will go with us. We will see His goodness entwined in every
situation, and some how even when things aren't right, His glory will
be revealed.

So expect His goodness to be present even in the midst of calamity.
Expect His goodness to overshadow what may seem devastating. Expect
His goodness to follow you this year-- and all the days of your life.

Have a great day. Good things may not be happening, but His goodness
will still surround you.

CONTINUOUS CROSS
By Miles Stanford

"For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake" (2 Cor.
4:11).

The indwelling Lord Jesus is the source of our life of liberation; the
Cross is the means to it. As we abide in Him and He in us, we are to reckon
upon the finished work of Calvary to deal progressively with self. It is on
this basis alone that the life of Jesus will be manifested in our mortal
flesh (2 Cor. 4:11) .

"God has taken the old creation and has condemned it in Christ, and is now
working on the new creation. There is no place in the plan of God for the
betterment of the old creation. He does not bring about some kind of
transformation of the old man so as to produce some kind of resemblance to
Christ in Christian character and conduct. There is only one place for the
old creation, and that is the Cross.

"But it is not enough for us to say it is there crucified with Christ.
Crucifixion was a lingering death, and while we stand once for all upon the
fact of God, which is eternal and unchangeable, when our Lord Jesus Christ
went to the Cross He took more than our sins with Him; He took our old man
and dealt with the source of all our sin, and dealt with it satisfactorily.
While we stand on that fact, there has to be the daily working out of the
victory which Christ has won for us; there has to be the daily dying to
this old self. The Holy Spirit has to work into us the death of the Lord
Jesus Christ in all its wonderful power and purpose." - G.W.

"Being made comfortable unto his death" (Phil. 3:10).

2Co 12:9 And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power
is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in
my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may overshadow me.

The stars may fall,

but God's promises will stand and be fulfilled.

"God's Word to You"!

God's Word to You today is found in Psalm 121:1-2

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

Our world is full of temptations, changes, hurts, blessings, losses, joy,
and in the midst of it all God. Whether things are going good or going
bad, we MUST look to our Father in thankfulness, praise, worship, and know
that He is always our helper, sustainer, our guide, our Father.

It's easy to recognize Him when all is well. We even have hope when all we
see is that light at the end of the tunnel. Do we truly trust Him when all
is darkness around us and there is no light?

He is still there. I know, He was waiting for me even while I was in the
darkness and lost.

"Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth."

Today KNOW God is with you…

me n' God love ya
