hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that
those who come in may see the light."

The truth is that this sinful world is a very dark place:
spiritually dark. Wherever Jesus went, He 'switched the light on' for
all those who wanted to see the truth and find a right relationship
with God. That was His purpose, and it still is. But instead of Jesus
being physically obvious, that role has been delegated to all those
who believe in Him. We are not saved just for our own benefit but also
so that others can see truth lived out in our lives, stimulating them
to seek the Saviour too.
