A Lesson In Witnessing - Straight From God's Word

A man who has pressed through the darkness, suffered and struggled in grief
and blindness, rejoices to the core of his being when he catches glimpses of
the sun. One of the first things he wants to do is call to his loved ones,
"Come over here! The sky is real! Come quickly and see!" For those of us
who know Jesus Christ as our hero and King, our brother and Savior, the
aching desire in our hearts is to show him to the rest of the world, to all
those others struggling through the darkness.
Some people want to find the light as well, and we get to have joyful times
with them talking about the great things God has done. Others, though,
don't want to hear at all.
"I don't want to be in the light," some say. "It exposes me." Or perhaps
even more tragic - "Other people have told me there was a light, but they
only hurt me. They led me deeper into darkness. It's a lie. Leave me
alone."
How do we reach these people, often our family and friends, people we care
deeply about? How do we approach them?
God has already given us plenty of instruction on the matter, and we're
leaving it to Him to teach us. It's vital that we understand the heart of
God for the Lost and remember certain principles as we reach out to them.
After all, these people are precious. Jesus died for them. He cares more
about our loved ones than we do. He knows them more intimately than they
know themselves, and only He can save them:
Matthew 18:13-14:
"And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of
that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it
is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little
ones should perish."
2 Peter 3:9:
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness;
but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance."
John 13:34-35:
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have

Iranhas crossed the critical nuclear threshold taking it nearer to being
able to arm ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads, weapons inspectors of
the International Atomic Energy Agency reported last week.
When this finding failed to elicit any response from the US or Israel, debka
file's military sources report, NATO secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen
hurried over to Washington Sunday, Sept. 12 with a call to action for
President Barack Obama: "Based on their (Iranian) public statements we know
that Iran already has missiles with a range sufficient to hit targets in
Europe, and they don't hide the fact that they want to further develop their
capability."
He came away with a pledge of 200 million euros as American in creating a
missile shield for Europe against the Iranian threat.
While even Europe has roused itself to the menace from Iran, the fast
encroaching threat to Israel remains unaddressed by Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu and defense minister Ehud Barak. They appear unmoved even in the
face of the coming visit to Lebanon on Oct. 13-14 by Iranian President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He is coming specifically to clinch Iran's grip on
Lebanon and its buildup as Iran's forward front for retaliation should
Israel venture to strike its nuclear facilities.
This buildup crossed every possible red line some time ago without an
Israeli response. The Iranian president will exploit this vacuum by paying a
visit to the South Lebanese-Israeli border village of Edeissa, from which on
Aug. 3, Lebanese army snipers soldiers were put up by Hizballah to ambush
Israeli troops and shoot dead Col. Dov Harari.
(Israel's only response was to knock out two Lebanese APCs klling three
Lebanese troops, and issuing warnings relayed by US intermediaries that the
IDF would meet further incidents by wiping out the entire Lebanese military
system in the space of four hours.)
Lebanese President Gen. Michel Suleiman phoned Ahmadinejad Sept. 11 to say
that the Lebanese people was "eagerly awaiting" his coming and stress that
henceforth the Lebanese national army would fight Israel shoulder to
shoulder with its comrades in Hizballah.
Will the Lebanese president accompany Ahmadinejad's on his symbolic visit to
Edeissa? Or Lebanese army chief Gen. Jean Kahwaji? Or will Hizballah leader
Hassan Nasrallah venture to leave his bunker-hideout to honor the guest?
This decision matters greatly. The Israeli government's silence with regard
to the provocative nature of the event matters even more.
Tehranwill be using it to uphold the Lebanese army's "heroic act" in
attacking Israel. It will be welcomed as an honored member of the
Iranian-Syrian-Palestinian "resistance front" against Israel alongside
Hizballah.
Iranhas thus gained a new strategic acquisition operating at its behest for
tying Israel's hands not only against striking Tehran but defending itself
against aggressive acts by its Lebanese neighbor.
Ahmadiinejad is planning to use his visit to celebrate an Iranian-Lebanese
defense pact coupled with a large-scale transaction to supply the Lebanese
armed forces with the weapons needed to take on the IDF. These deals will
kick off the merger and standardization of Lebanese and Hizballah weapons
systems.
The next time Lebanese troops attack Israel they are likely to be using
Iranian arms.

What is it about the No. 10?

We're born with 10 fingers and 10 toes, and Top 10 lists are ubiquitous
these days.
But get ready for the number to be talked about a bit more than usual in the
next month as Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, will bring about the
unique-to-this-century calendar alignment of 10/10/10.
Some people are already excited about the occasion, including Elsie Nelson
of Minnesota who will celebrate her centennial birthday then.
"I'll be 100 on 10/10/10," she told the Detroit Lakes Tribune.
Across America and the world, there's a rush among people planning to get
married on the date, making it a busy 24 hours for those who perform wedding
ceremonies.
"I was booked for 10:10 a.m. on 10th October 2010 many months ago," Elaine
Searle of Australian Marriage Celebrants told the Sydney Daily Telegraph. "I
have booked two more ceremonies during the day and could have booked,
probably about six more, but three is my absolute limit!"

quantity of participation, the greater our impact on society."
But is there any significance to this triple-10 occurrence, known as a
trinumeral? Some suggest there might be some sort of heavenly meaning,
despite the fact ourcalendar today is based on one developed in the pagan
Roman world.
"Throughout the Bible, specific numbers are utilized by God as well as Jesus
in the New Testament," said Connie Lemacks-Davis of Long Beach, Calif., who
calls 10/10/10 a "once-in-a-lifetime date that could very well represent a
divine time or a divine day on God'scalendar or God's clock."
She added, "Specific numbers have always been a part of God's divine plan.
This date might just have a significant meaning or again, it may not. Of
course, there is no way of knowing for sure."
Indeed, the Bible does feature numbers, and often links them with recurring
themes.
The No. 10, for instance, is associated with completeness of order.
There's a famous example of the No. 10 being repeated in Scripture, and it
has to do with the Ten Commandments, the set of laws etched in stone by God
Himself to guide people in dealing with God and their fellow human beings.

Many people are unaware the Ten Commandments actually had to be created
twice, since Moses smashed the original set in anger upon discovering his
fellow Israelites in rebellion against God.
"The LORD told Moses, 'Prepare two stone tablets like the first ones. I will
write on them the same words that were on the tablets you smashed.'" (Exodus
34:1, New Living Translation)
Some other uses of the No. 10 in Scripture include the 10 plagues inflicted
on Egypt shortly before the Exodus, 10 generations from Adam to Noah, and
Jesus' parable of the ten virgins.
The No. 7 is also found hundreds of times in the Bible, and is often tied to
spiritual perfection. Perhaps the most well-known use of it is God's
creation of the seven-day weekly cycle, and his setting apart of the seventh
day of the week as a time of rest.
Another frequently mentioned number is 40, and is usually associated with a
time of testing or instruction.
It reflects how many days the rain fell upon Noah's Ark, the years the
Israelites were tested by God in the wilderness before entering the Promised
Land, the days Jesus fasted while being tempted by the devil, and the days
Jesus spent on Earth personally instructing His disciples after He was
raised from the dead and before His ascension back to heaven.
Psalm 40 is also the inspiration for the song "40" by Irish rock band U2
which often closes its concerts by putting Scripture to music with the
opening lyric: "I waited patiently for the Lord. He inclined and heard my
cry."
Though the Bible is replete with numbers, Scripture also warns against
something called "divination," which is defined as "the art or practice that
seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge
usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural
powers."
One such condemnation is mentioned in the Book of Isaiah: "The LORD has
rejected the people of Israel because they have made alliances with
foreigners from the East who practice magic and divination, just like the
Philistines." (Isaiah 2:6)
Some might consider attaching some godly significance to dates on our Roman
calendar too close to divination for comfort.
One website analyzing the predictions concerning what might happen on
10/10/10 says most opinions are based on or are rooted in its mathematical
uniqueness as a number, with three possible outcomes:
1. Something good happens – There is absolutely no scientific basis for
this belief. There are no known logical premises for this belief. The belief
that something good will happen is based solely on spiritualism, faith,
and/or innate optimism. This belief is not necessarily a bad thing; we don't
know everything; the probability is not zero.
2. Nothing happens – This is the most likely scenario. Just because an
unusual date number sequence occurs doesn't mean that something will happen.
Usually it's a non-event.
3. Something bad happens – There is absolutely no scientific basis for
this belief. There are no known logical premises for this belief. The belief
that something bad will happen is based solely on pessimism of reality. This
belief is not necessarily false; after all, things are generally/usually a
mess. The probability is not zero.
Some discussion online regarding the upcoming date includes comments such
as:
* "My 34th birthday is 10/10/10. This has by far been the worst year of

In his book, "The Pentagon's New Map", Naval War College professor, Thomas
Barnett, seems to be fixated on Somalia, talking about this tiny country on
eight pages of his book, from page 88 through page 348. At one point,
Barnett calls Somalia the "poor man's Vietnam". Somalia has most definitely
on the Pentagon's mind since the attacks of 9/11.
However, Barnett also speaks of Saudi Arabia and how backward she is,
because she is vainly trying to grow her economy by depending upon her oil
wealth under the sands of the desert. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia is a

Believe me, it is a small step indeed from being able to enhance brain
functions of soldiers on the battlefield to being able to control the minds

Age authors talk about the future mind control of entire populations. This

WASHINGTON (RNS) Southern Baptist executive Richard Land was pleased at how
religious Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally turned out to be.
Bishop Harry Jackson, a black evangelical leader, was pleasantly surprised
that the Fox
News talk show host said things "some of my close friends could have
written."
And Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. was among the faith
leaders to enlist in Beck's new "Black Robe Regiment."
"Glenn Beck's Mormon faith is irrelevant," said Falwell. "People of all
faiths, all races and all creeds spoke and attended the event. Nobody was
there to endorse anyone else's faith but we were all there to honor our
armed forces and to call the people of America to restore honor."
But other conservative Christians say Beck's leadership at an event attended
by evangelicals and other conservatives was nothing short of scandalous.
"The answer to this scandal ... includes local churches that preach the
gospel of Jesus Christ, and disciple their congregations to know the
difference between the kingdom of God and the latest political whim,"
Russell Moore, dean of the School of Theology at Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary, wrote on his blog the day after the rally.
"It's sad to see so many Christians confusing Mormon politics or American
nationalism with the gospel of Jesus Christ."
There is no doubt that Beck has a following. Gallup has ranked him as the
fourth most admired man -- just ahead of Pope Benedict XVI -- and millions
tune in to his daily broadcasts.

But, as his religious rhetoric attests, Beck has gone fishing for a new
audience recently.
Weeks before the rally, he gathered about 20 prominent religious leaders for
a dinner at which he said God was leading him to talk about revival in
America, Land said. The night before the rally, he held a "Divine Destiny"
event that promised to leave participants with a "strong belief that faith
can play an essential role in reuniting the country."
That kind of language has some evangelicals upset.
"I believe that Beck used his conservative veneer and doublespeak to co-opt
leaders of the religious right," wrote Brannon Howse, founder of Worldview
Weekend, which sponsors Christian worldview conferences.
Others, such as Lou Engle, founder of The Call rallies across the country,
said Beck will get qualified support.
"I think evangelicals will see him as a moral voice, not necessarily a
spiritual voice," he said.
Experts say Beck's ability to reach evangelicals will depend on whether he
speaks a broad message or delves more narrowly into his Mormon beliefs.

'Forget pizza parties,' teens tell churches [Excerpts]
"Bye-bye church. We're busy." That's the message teens are giving churches
today.
Only about one in four teens now participate in church youth groups,
considered the hallmark of involvement; numbers have been flat since 1999.
Other measures of religiosity -- prayer, Bible reading and going to church
-- lag as well, according to Barna Group, a Ventura, Calif., evangelical
research company. This all has churches canceling their summer teen camps
and youth pastors looking worriedly toward the fall, when school-year youth
groups kick in.
"Sweet 16 is not a sweet spot for churches. It's the age teens typically
drop out," says Thom Rainer, president of LifeWay Christian Resources,
Nashville, Tenn., which found the turning point in a study of church
dropouts. "A decade ago teens were coming to church youth group to play,
coming for the entertainment, coming for the pizza. They're not even coming
for the pizza anymore. They say, 'We don't see the church as relevant, as
meeting our needs or where we need to be today.' "This Little Church Went to
Market
Chris Palmer, youth pastor at Ironbridge Baptist Church in Chester, Va.,
says its youth group enrollment slid from 125 teens in 2008 to 35 last
winter.
He pulled participation back up to 70 this year by letting teens know "real
church, centered on Jesus Christ, is hard work," Palmer says. "This involves
the Marine Corps of Christianity. Once we communicate that, we see kids say,
'Hey, I want to be involved in something that's a little radical and
exciting.' "
Rainer agrees. He says teens today want Scripture, they "don't want
superficiality. We need to tell them that if you are part of church life,
you are part of something bigger. The church needs you, too."

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
On this week's edition of "The Hal Lindsey Report," I continue my newly
revised two-part series that examines God's five great 'Divine
Institutions.' This week, I'll discuss in greater detail the vital role each
'institution' plays in our American culture and how those five pillars of
society are eroding and being forcibly attacked by the spirit of anti-Christ
in America.
As you recall, a 'Divine Institution is a fundamental principle God ordained
for the preservation of the human race. It may be a custom, a practice, a
relationship, or a behavioral pattern of importance in the life of a
community or society. This week, I'll discuss the institutions of Human
Freedom, the Sanctity of Life, and The Nation.
As we approach the mid-term general elections, the United States is at a
crossroads. We face enormous challenges domestically and internationally,
politically and culturally. But America's greatest challenge is spiritual.
As our nation turns its back on God, I believe we will begin to see His
divine protection slowly and dramatically withdrawn. As believers in the
redeeming power of Jesus Christ, we must diligently pray for our country in
this time of moral and spiritual crisis.
