CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT -- Deuteronomy 12:30a NIV

"and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be
ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve
their gods?..."

God knows us so much better than we know ourselves. He knows how easily we
fall into temptation. If we're curious about certain things - things that
are in the same category as others that have been our downfall in the past -
we need to just stay curious. We shouldn't even ask.

"But I'm stronger than that. I can check into things to see what they're
all about. I won't be affected." Right. Sure. If you believe that, I
have some ocean-front property in Arizona I'd like to tell you about! (For
those outside the U.S., there's not an ocean anywhere near Arizona! So the
point is, if you're gullible enough to believe you can't be affected by
these things, then you'll be gullible enough to believe there's ocean-front
property in Arizona!)

The human mind is extremely malleable. Every person on earth is capable of
being brainwashed. No one is immune. The term, "Garbage in, garbage out"
is absolutely correct. Take a look at television and movies, for instance.
It hasn't been very many years since the huge furor about Rhett Butler's
famous and final statement in the film Gone with the Wind. And now that
seems so mild! Also, I remember when I was a teenager and the first ad
appeared on TV for female undergarments - a Maidenform bra enclosing a
headless, armless and lower body-less mannequin turned slowly as a
voice-over lauded the praises of this "wonderful" bra! We were shocked.
appalled! I was so embarrassed that I couldn't even stay in the same room
with my parents! And remember when they blacked the bottom half of the
screen when Elvis made his first gyrating appearance on the Ed Sullivan
show? He was considered indecent. Now take a look at the afternoon tabloid
TV shows, or prime time, or MTV! What used to shock us would qualify for a
"G" rating today! And you said you could not be brainwashed.

God says to not even ask. God says forget about curiosity. How many people
read their horoscopes every day, saying, "I don't really believe this. I
just read it because it's entertaining. It doesn't affect me." Right.
Now, about that property I mentioned earlier...
