CHOOSE FOR YOURSELVES THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE -- Joshua 24:15 NIV
"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods of your
forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose
land you ar living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the
Lord."
In every person's life there comes a day when he has to make a choice about
who he is going to serve. As a matter of fact, that choice comes up
daily... sometimes hourly... sometimes moment by moment. The good thing is,
God didn't make you and me puppets. He gave us a choice as to whether we
would serve Him or not. He left the decision up to us. That's also the
tough thing in our lives.
It's difficult to make that choice day after day after day. Because the
wrong way usually looks a lot more tempting... or easy... or fun... As a
matter of fact, sin is fantastic fun! It is! No, you say? Well, if it's
no fun, then why do you and I keep doing it over and over again? That's
what makes the choice so difficult. For some reason, it's a lot easier to
remember how much fun a particular sin was the last time we did it than it
is to remember how horrible the consequences were. It's a lot easier to
blow your stack at someone than to count to ten and approach the situation
calmly. It's a lot more fun to shop till you drop and run your credit cards
up to their limit than it is do without those things you want until you an
afford to pay cash for them. It's a lot easier to repeat an ugly rumor
about someone than it is to stop and pray for that person. It's a lot
easier to go along with the crowd than it is to take a stand for Jesus. And
those are just examples of surface evidence to a deeper problem. the
inability to choose.
Joshua was telling the people, "You have to make a choice... right now. You
have to choose whom you will serve with your life. As for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord."
How about you? Have you made that choice yet? And if so, do you continue
to make it daily in everything that you do? If not, it's time to choose.
