The Ten of Wands

The Lord of Oppression is a hard card to come to grips with, for it
indicates blocked or thwarted Will. We want something badly, and yet
we seem to stand no chance of getting it. We feel frustrated,
irritable and disappointed.

If a situation marked by the 10 of Wands goes on for too long, we will
begin to feel trapped and deeply unhappy. We will begin to lose faith
in ourselves, and our abilities to make our lives into what we want.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind if the influence of the
Lord of Oppression is a fairly fleeting one - sometimes we have to
wait for the right moment to get our heart's desire.

However it's worth bearing in mind, if you ever read on a specific
situation, and this card comes up in the final result position, the
reading is probably telling you not to waste any more effort on a
conflict that you cannot win. Sometimes we are better off just walking
away.

The long-term appearance of this card carries a warning with it that
you really cannot ignore. If the 10 of Wands is a regular feature of
your readings for some time, you are probably hurting yourself more
than you care to admit. You are not fulfilling your needs, and you are
leaving yourself open to negativity.

Time to get a little bit of Ace energy in there, and sort things out!

Working with the Ten of Wands

The Lord of Oppression can be a tricky influence, because it indicates
blocked energy and thwarted Will - both of these can work against us
in our lives, causing frustration and confusion.

Very often the reason that this situation arises is because we are
unable to clearly communicate our feelings on a given topic, to
somebody who has strong influence over our lives. We repress our
inmost needs and, instead, present a bland and safe mask to the
outside world.

So on a day ruled by this card, there are certain processes you need
to go through in order to work out what the problem is. First of all,
consider whether this is a fleeting effect which will pass tomorrow or
the next day. If so, then the chances are that regular use of the
affirmation will clear your path.

However, if you find that you've been feeling a bit frustrated for a
while, today is the day to get to grips with that. Isolate the things
that you really wish you could tell people around you who matter. Then
consider why you might not be speaking your mind.

There can be many reasons for this - some of them useful and others
damaging. Work out whether your silence is serving you well or ill.
For instance, it's not usually a very good idea to tell your boss that
some of his habits drive you insane with frustration ;-) If you
discover that you do have unexpressed feelings in a situation where it
would not be wise to express yourself out loud, then write everything
down, and then vent your annoyance by ripping the paper up into
several tiny pieces (don't go directing it at the person.just at the
habit, action or event). That should get some of your irritation out
of your system!!

If you cannot express your feelings because you're prevented by
circumstance - you are out of touch with the person concerned; you're
angry and frustrated about a world event; there seems to be no
possible route to the people you need to talk to...the paper trick
could work well again. Or alternatively, visualise the person/people
you need to speak with, and then tell them exactly how you feel. This
act can have a quirky effect in that it often produces a response from
the person on the other side of the discussion!

And if, finally, you are not expressing yourself openly because you
feel that you do not want to do this, you need to consider why. Are
you scared of your reception? Are you worried about upsetting
somebody? Are you standing on your pride? Or do you simply see no
point in expending the energy?

If you're scared of your reception...well.considering the frustration
that may be building up - perhaps this is a good moment to feel the
fear and do it anyway. If you are worried about upsetting somebody,
remember.inadvertently perhaps.they are upsetting you. You can express
your truth without being unpleasant if you consider what you're going
to say.

If you're standing on your pride, I expect you'll have to see whether
you think doing that is worth causing you this much irritation. And if
you cannot see the point, try the visualisation technique to free
yourself from repression, or talk the situation through with a friend.
Or write it all down and think it over. One of these will work!! .

Affirmation: I release all repression so my Will flows freely.

TEN OF WANDS

Attribution - Saturn in Sagittarius

The suit of Wands represents the element of fire. It is the intuitive
function, the libido, the primitive life force. Some associations are
– career, creativity, energy, desire, action, intuition, sex,
movement, victory, enthusiasm, confidence, competition, magic and
excellence.

Tens represent the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one,
summing up, using one's experience, renewal, return to unity,
totality, completed circumstances, the finish, transformation, now
you've gone too far.

Rider-Waite Imagery

The number 10 is an indication that you are nearing the end of the
project. Wands represents the element of fire and is associated with
inspiration, creativity and careers.

Shown on this card is a man carrying 10 wands. He is looking towards
the earth (practical matters). He is wearing a white (purity) shirt,
an orange (natural earthiness) tunic, a red belt (passion to finish),
green (life and vitality in action) tights and brown (practicality)
shoes. His hair is blonde. There are buildings in the background as
well as trees (grown up wands), and rolling hills.

The Pictorial Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite (1911)

A man oppressed by the weight of the ten staves which he is carrying.

Divinatory Meanings

Upright: A card of many significances, and some of the readings cannot
be harmonized. I set aside that which connects it with honour and good
faith. The chief meaning is oppression simply, but it is also fortune,
gain, any kind of success, and then it is the oppression of these
things. It is also a card of false-seeming, disguise, perfidy. The
place which the figure is approaching may suffer from the rods that he
carries. Success is stultified if the Nine of Swords follows, and if
it is a question of a lawsuit, there will be certain loss.

Reversed: Contrarieties, difficulties, intrigues, and their analogies.

Some Additional Meanings of the Lesser Arcana

Ten: Difficulties and contradictions, if near a good card.

UPRIGHT

Overburdened feeling, too much responsibility, being overwhelmed.

Expecting too much of oneself, taking oneself too seriously, no humour.

Excessive pressures.

A victim of your own success, you have become a slave to your work.

Failure to delegate.

Overkill, overcompensating.

Self-discipline is necessary.

Feeling trapped and deeply unhappy.

Make sure one more straw doesn't break your back. You are tired of the
fight that has gone on too long.

Put one foot in front of the other and don't look at how far you have yet to go.

Don't waste any more effort on a conflict you can't win.

"I don't have to do it all myself!"

Back strain, slipped discs, heart problems.

Obesity and obesity related health problems, sleep apnea, insomnia (E. Hazel)

REVERSED

Severe illness with long term consequences; serious injury; body parts
that no longer function. (E. Hazel)

Lack of faith.

Ask for help.

Overburdened to the point of collapse.

Unrealistic ambitions.

Be honest with yourself about what you can and can't do by yourself.

Know when to call it quits.

Being an unnecessary burden to others.

Troublemakers disturbing progress.

Laying burdens on others.

Loss, crushing debts.

Business closing, layoffs; jobs shipped overseas.

Treachery.

Toothaches, loss of hair, heart problems, bad circulation. (E. Hazel)

On This Day:

Wednesday February 8, 2012

This is the 39th day of the year, with 327 days remaining in 2012.

Fact of the Day: bears

Bears are three-gaited, meaning they walk, lope or gallop. It has been
reported that a grizzly bear can run nearly as fast as a horse (33-34
mph) for a distance of 50 to 100 yards. This is definitely faster than
a human being can run. The lope, slower than the gallop, is an easy,
ground-covering, bounding gait that does not seem to tire the bear and
can be maintained for a long time. Grizzlies can lope along across
flats, up slopes, and down slopes, always maintaining a steady pace.
It seems they are every bit as fast going uphill as they are going
down. They also swim, but they cannot climb trees. Only Black bears in
America can climb trees.

Holidays

Feast day of St. Jerome Emiliani, St. John of Matha, St. Cuthman, St.
Stephen of Muret, St. Elfleda, St. Nicetius or Nizier of Besançon, and
St. Meingold.

dilettante

PRONUNCIATION:

(DIL-i-tahnt, dil-i-TAHNT, -tay, -tee)

MEANING:

noun: One who takes up an activity or interest in a superficial or casual way.

adjective: Superficial; amateurish.

ETYMOLOGY:

From Italian dilettante (amateur), from Latin delectare (to delight).
Earliest documented use: 1733.

USAGE:

"I long ago came to realize that I am a putterer, a grazer, a
dilettante. I create the impression of getting a lot done by dabbling
through my days: I read two pages of a book, write half a letter,
paint a portion of the front porch, bake half a tin of muffins, teach
a class, wash a window."

Science Monitor (Boston, Massachusetts); May 10, 2004.

Cosmic Dirt Astrology, February 7, 2012, A Bulldozer Coming Your Way,
Saturn Retrograde, Leo Full Moon

02/06/2012 By Suzi Dronzek

Starcana Cosmic Dirt We're extremely alert in the earlier hours as Sun
conjuncts Mercury, so we could find our sleep to be interrupted.
Information that we have been searching for may be received. The vibes
are brilliant for communicating, writing, and short trips. Holding the
energy in could create insomnia, nervous restlessness, or excessive
worry. Movement is calling out, so walk it off at least.

Saturn stations today, and will turn retrograde for the next four
months. What has been in the making, slowly comes to a temporary halt.
This time is made available to us, in order to make sure that we are
building life on a steady platform. We are encouraged in the weeks
ahead to take a good hard look at our life, to determine where our
weaknesses and our strengths are. Then we will have that to take to
the bank. Saturn in Libra rules general relationships, professional
partnerships, romantic affairs, and enemies. During Saturn retrograde,
we could find ourselves faced with old issues and recurring events.
This cycle provides us with the opportunity to face reality, and to
finally fix what has been worn-down, broken, or standing on its last
leg. As Pluto in Capricorn (foundations, reputations, career, family,
property) waits hungrily to destroy what has been decaying, Saturn
tells us that we better step it up, and make things right. 'Move it,
or lose it'. Hardships that may occur should not be feared – but
understood. Saturn retrograde demands that we prioritize, so that we
recognize where we have been investing all of our time, and where we
haven't. Obviously something is going to come crashing down if we have
failed to do the necessary work to keep everything together. If and
when it does, we should recognize the matter as consequence. Yes, it's
that simple. Cause and effect.

As Mars also retrogrades at this time, Our forward movement is also
temporarily stalled, so that we may reenergize our own passion – to
burn our fuel more efficiently. Retrogrades produce a time for
healing, to recreate ourselves, and our lives. We also need to
remember that we can not change or fix anyone else. Saturn and Mars
energy are dominant and controlling in their shadow modes. Out of
habit, we may see the same old routines that got us in this
predicament in the first place. Saturn and Mars in retrograde or
reverse – means the energy that you've been putting out there is
coming at you. Like a bulldozer plowing backwards, they are coming
right for us, to help us to unlearn and undo sloppy patterns.. so that
we may recreate and rebuild a more dependable path to stand on. With
the recent shift of Neptune entering Pisces, we will see more
flexibility in due time, allowing us to adapt and connect at a much
deeper measures.

We also have a Full Moon event, reminding us that we have completed a
full emotional cycle. Our sensitivities are heightened in this great
light, enhancing both our awareness and need for truth. Our warrior
spirit is reflective and powerfully ignited beneath this Full Moon in
Leo. It's time to shine and show that we mean business. "Forgiveness
is God's command." Martin Luther. Tarot guidance from Four of Cups,
Six of Cups: Find serenity in the release.
