Let Me Surprise You.

"Let me surprise you", He said one bright day,
" Come witness the blossoms which grow on display.
Come see the flowers and birds which do sing,
The signs of creation, the signs of the spring".
So I paused and I looked, and I took it all in,
The blossoms, the flowers, and the birds which do sing..
I was taken aback by the beauty I saw,
Each thing was created, without even a flaw.

"Let me surprise you", He said one fine night,
" Come see the moon, which is shining so bright.
Come see the stars which all light up the sky,
A beauty so perfect - you cannot deny".
So I stopped and I looked at the great sky above,
And admired the creation from His simple love,
A sight I could treasure, completely for free,
A sight just created, as His gift to me.

"Let me surprise you, at the end of the day,
These things are all here, in this U.S of A,
Created for you, just the same as back home,
Wherever you travel, wherever you roam.
Your senses aware now,so far from your birth,
But I did make it all, on this wonderous earth,
The same sky you see, across the divide,
Is the sky I created, where'er you reside".

So I paused and I listened to all that He said,
His words were an echo inside of my head,
I knew what He meant, as He'd just made me see,
That the home of the brave and the land of the free..
Was a part of me now, a part of my soul,
He created it too, to share with us all..
Where does it matter, the place of our birth?
My home is His gift, our own sweet Mother earth.

~OUR SOURCE OF HELP~

In this life, we all go through problems
We have sickness, woes, and cares,
But there is one who walks beside us,
Our every burden, Jesus will bear.

There is no other, sister or brother
Who always hears, or can answer our prayers,
There is no other friend, to be with us until the end,
No one but He, sees and wipes away, all our tears.

God is our help, in time of need or trouble,
He provides and with His manna, He will feed,
Jesus is our "Healer, Protector, and Elder Brother,"
He alone can supply our every need.

Do you have a problem or feel all alone?
There is a source of strength and help.
God stands ready to meet you at His throne,
If His word you believe and accept.

Read | Acts 16:31

Do you ever wonder if faith in Jesus is really the only
way to be saved? Satan is a crafty liar who will twist God's Word to
cause confusion. In order to steer people away from following Christ,
he tries to create the impression that eventually everyone will make
it to heaven. But that is not what Scripture teaches.

The truth is that we can choose to reject the salvation
that Christ freely offers. John's gospel tells us, "God did not send
the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be
saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does
not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in
the name of the only begotten Son of God" (3:17-18).

God clearly states that whoever believes in Jesus Christ
will be saved (v. 16). And the Bible stresses that we have only this
earthly life in which to make a choice—there are no second chances
after death.

So if you would like to be sure of your salvation, you can
do so by inviting Jesus to be your personal Savior today. God, who
wants you to spend eternity with Him, offers compelling reasons to
make this all-important decision: "He who believes in the Son has
eternal life; but the wrath of God abides on him who does not obey
Christ" (v. 36).

The possibility of a second chance is seductive, but do
not be fooled. There are no more chances to be saved after death. The
free gift of salvation is available only in this life—and only through
Jesus (14:6). Receive the Savior now, and you never have to wonder
what awaits you in eternity.

The Only Authority on Heaven
No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come
down from heaven. —John 3:13
The number of people who believe in the afterlife is higher than ever. A
recent global survey was conducted, asking people about their belief in God
and the afterlife. Of the 18,000 people polled across 23 countries, 51
percent were convinced there is an afterlife and a God. In the U.S., belief
is even higher, with 76 percent of Americans believing in heaven.
Belief in the afterlife is not unique to our time. Almost every culture
believes there is something beyond the grave. The Egyptians believed that,
of course. Archaeologists recently discovered a solar boat in one of the
Great Pyramids, supposedly for Pharaoh Khufu to use to sail the heavens in
the next life.
Ancient Greeks would often place a coin in the mouth of the dead to pay the
fare across the mythic river of death into the land of immortal life.
American Indians would bury a warrior with a pony, a bow, and arrows so that
he could ride into the happy hunting ground.
In Greenland, Eskimos who died in childhood were traditionally buried with
their dog, intended to guide them through the supposed cold wasteland of
death.
All of these views are skewed or outright wrong. But one thing they have
right is the belief that there is life beyond this life. Even in the time of
Jesus, many of the Jews had an aberrant view of the afterlife because they
didn't look at what the Scripture taught.
According to Jesus, there is indeed life beyond the grave. Why should we
accept His word over the word of another? Jesus is qualified to speak on the
topic because He came from heaven, and He has returned to heaven. That is
why Christ—and Christ alone—can address this topic with authority.

Summary sentence: According to Jesus, there is life beyond the grave. Why
does He have authority to say this?

Discover Something New About You
by Jane Powell

"Qualities you see in others, reveals something about you."

You may not realize it, but the characteristics you like or
dislike in others delivers a special message.

If you respond to a person that you see as outgoing, positive
and energetic, these are most likely qualities you possess, but have
not fully embraced or developed. Likewise, if you react to the
overbearing nature of another, then do a self-check, you may have the
tendency to be overbearing yourself.

Either way, tune into what you do and don't admire in others.
Take note of your emotional response. With this new found awareness
you can't help but discover something you didn't know about yourself.

Set your standards high and never settle for less.

Believe in yourself no matter what,

but don't worry if you stray because

the most important thing is that you have

learned along the way.

Take all you have become to be all

that you can be. Soar high above the clouds,

and let your dreams be set free...

A little distance
Think of the most difficult challenge you currently face. Now
imagine that it's not you, but someone else who is going through that
challenge.

What advice would you give that person? If you could step back
and look at your situation as an objective observer, would you look at
it any differently?

Think of the advice you would give another person if that person
were in your exact same situation. Are you yourself following that
advice right now?

When you're the one who is facing a challenge, you can be so
close to it that your judgment is distorted. So imagine stepping back,
away from the worry and anxiety.

Look at your situation calmly and objectively, putting it into
the vast and valuable perspective of your entire life experience.
Don't allow the problem to cloud your thinking just because you're the
person who is experiencing it.

Give yourself the benefit of a little distance. And give
yourself some great advice.

"God's Word to You"!

God's Word to You today is found in Jude 1:17-23

17But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ
foretold. 18They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who
will follow their own ungodly desires." 19These are the men who divide you,
who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. 20But you,
dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the
Holy Spirit. 21Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of
our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. 22Be merciful to those
who doubt; 23snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show
mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted
flesh.

Wow, what a testimony of who we are to be. Often I write about our unity
within the family of Christ. I get e-mails asking if I mean we are to have
unity with everyone even if they don't believe in the same Jesus we do or
especially those who do not believe in Him at all.

We must live in unity or peace if you will with everyone. But these verses
are useful to help us understand how to live with those who are not like
us. See, there are several religions that profess a Jesus that is not the
same one we know. He is even in the Muslim religion yet they are lost and
do not know Him for who He is.

Do we need to live in peace and unity with them? Yes, as far as we can.
But our first task is to live for God. If our relationship with Him is
right then we can live among those who are lost in peace and unity as those
who love the Lord and pray for them to truly see Him in us to lead them to a
relationship with Him.

But peace and unity does not mean we condone their sins. We must never do
that, yet we must as Jesus did and does, love them no matter what. Whether
they sin in the fleshly desires or whatever sin they have we must know we
are not of this world but still in this world.

Jesus came here to save us. He leaves us here to show them the way. But
that is one of the main points of these verses. We must know and stay in
the way. We can't condemn them and we can't condone them. We must show
them Jesus' love and His ways.

If we live among them as they do then we give them permission to live as
they do. If we live for Jesus as He lived we give them a light to
follow.

Be a light to them today, not a judge and jury. Who knows, today may just
be the day they really finally see the light. Wouldn't that be
awesome?

JOHN 1:5
by Pastor Jim Krieg

As a person endeavors to teach God's Word to a Sunday school class or some
other large group, he may run into the difficulty of different translations.
To remedy this I would never recommend that we all hold to only one
translation as sacred. There is no perfect translation. I also would not
suggest comparing many translations and pronouncing the majority opinion as
correct. Each of us as believers needs to increase our own scholarship and
discernment of the Scriptures.

I was recently reminded of some difference in the translations in John 1:5
and decided to take a closer look at the word translated by some as
comprehend and by others as overcome.

John is speaking of the Word being God and life and light. In verse 5 he
says, "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not
katalambano it." What is the darkness not able to do to the light? Let us
take a concordance and look at the other places this word is used in the New
Testament.

First of all we see that it is a compound Greek word from the preposition
"kata" meaning down, and the verb "lambano" meaning to take or receive.
Notice that in this word the verb and the preposition compliment each other,
thereby intensifying the meaning of "lambano" alone. Thus, the basic meaning
would be to really take. Now let us observe the word used throughout the New
Testament and see how the basic meaning is shaded by different contexts.

In Acts 4:13 the Jewish council took down in a mental sense, and hence,
understood, or or had comprehension that Peter and John were scholastically
untrained men. As Peter again stood before the Jewish council having
witnessed the events at Cornelius' house, he said, "I truly understand that
God is not a respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34). In Ephesians 3:18, Paul
prays that they might be able to comprehend, or understand the breadth,
length, height, and depth of God's Word (cf. also Acts 25:25).

So we see that comprehend is a bona fide translation of this word when used
in a mental sense. But Paul uses "katalambano " in a different sense also.
In First Corinthians 9:24, Paul says that a person runs in order that he
might take down in a positive, physical sense, and hence obtain the prize.
Although the basic meaning of take down is still the same, a translation of
comprehend would not make sense in this context as also Philippians 3:12,
13, and Romans 9:30, where obtain is the preferred translation.

But again we see this word being used in a negative, physical context in
Mark 9:18. A father brings his son to the disciples saying he was held by a
dumb spirit, and when that spirit would take him down i.e., in a negative
sense, the boy would smash to the ground, foaming and gnashing his teeth. We
see here that the spirit took hold of and overpowered him.

Paul uses this word in a similar vein in First Thessalonians 5:4, where he
speaks of believers not being overcome by the day of the Lord as a thief
overcomes his victims.

Actually we see John using our word in John 12:35 again in respect to
darkness (skotia) as in John 1:5. He quotes Jesus as exhorting His followers
to "Walk as you have the light lest the darkness might overcome
[katalambano] you."

In light of these observations, especially as used in similar contexts, we
can concur that the idea being brought out in John 1:5 is that the darkness
is not able to overcome, overpower, or overtake the light which is Christ.

We see John teaching a great principle of grace along with Paul that
believers who are rescued out of the darkness of sin and placed in the light
of Christ, can live without the dread of being overpowered by the powers of
darkness. (John 8:12; 9:5; 12:46; Rom. 13:12; Eph. 5:8-9; Col. 1:12; 1
Thess. 5:5)

Coffee Break

"Get Understanding"

"Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the
instruction of fools is folly." Proverbs 16:22

There will always be things that we don't understand. Even Solomon
with all his wisdom did not understand some things. (Proverbs
30:18,19) But having an understanding of the things of God and
spiritual principles is necessary to our spiritual growth and
well-being. The Book of Proverbs is full of admonishment, commands
and instruction concerning the importance of having understanding.

Some Christians believe that it is not meant for us to understand the
things of God. Granted, there are some "mysteries" that we won't
understand until this corruptible flesh puts on incorruption and this
mortality puts on immortality. And until then there will always be
some things that we know only "in part" because the understanding that
we have is still like looking through a dark glass. Jesus addressed
this subject with His disciples. In Matthew 13 He talked to them
about spiritual things and Kingdom principles, then He asked them if
they understood what He said. "Jesus saith unto them, Have ye
understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord." (verse 51)
In the same chapter Jesus told His disciples that they have been
given the understanding to know these things, but the world hasn't
been given that understanding. So, yes, He does want us to understand
spiritual things.

So, what do we do if we don't understand; how do we get the
understanding? The first thing you do is continue reading God's word.
Don't get discouraged and put it down just because you don't
understand it. Unless you continue reading it, you will never
understand it. Also, you pray. You pray for the Lord to enlighten
the eyes of your understanding. You pray for the spirit of wisdom and
revelation. You ask the Holy Spirit to make your understanding
fruitful and trust that He will lead you into the truth- because He
will; He is the Spirit of Truth. Also, don't get impatient.
Sometimes the understanding comes line upon line, precept upon
precept, here a little and there a little- and eventually you will get
the full "picture" of what the Lord is saying.

The Lord doesn't want us ignorant. He intends for us to understand
spiritual things. And even though there will be some things that we
don't understand until we see Him face to face, we have the promise
that if we seek an understanding of spiritual things we will find it.

Have a great day. If you don't understand spiritual truths just
ask... the Holy Spirit will help you to understand.

*Daily Devotional
* Betty Miller shares her daily devotionals which are based on
the book of Proverbs in the Bible.* * * The Wisdom of God*

*Verses for the Day:*

*Proverbs 13:2-3(KJV):
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the
transgressors shall eat violence.
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his
lips shall have destruction.*

*Thoughts for the Day:*

The book of *Proverbs *has a lot to say about how the things that we speak
will affect our lives. The first part of *Verse 2 *states that good will
come to us by the things that we speak. Gracious words will bring favor to
those who speak them, while an evil, filthy mouth will produce the opposite.
We all like to be around people who are kind and considerate, while we try
to avoid those who speak rudely and crudely. Words are creative. Good words
create an atmosphere of love. On the other hand, evil words create the
opposite kind of environment; one that is offensive. God Himself, created
the world by the words that He spoke. In the beginning He spoke and it was
so.

*Genesis 1:3: "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."*

If we speak the things that the Bible declares are true, we will be agreeing
with God's Word, and by doing so, and by so doing we will create an
atmosphere where faith can rise in our hearts. However, if we speak doubt
and unbelief, it will destroy our faith. What comes out of our mouths
reveals what is in our hearts. Therefore, if we find things coming out of
our mouths that are not edifying, we should repent, and ask God to cleanse
our hearts. Things just do not accidentally come out of our mouths. Those
things were in our hearts, even though we might not have been aware of them.
Words of evil -- such as jealousy, lying, gossip, fear, doubt, hatred,
resentment, pride, selfishness, etc. reveal those very things in our own
hearts. We all, at times, slip and say things that we wished we had not
said. Each time we correct our speech and repent for those kind of things,
we will find that soon good things will be coming out more abundantly than
evil things.

*Matthew 12:34-37:
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for
out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good
things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall
give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be
condemned.*

*Proverbs 13:3 *tells us that if we allow the Holy Spirit to control our
lives by asking Him to fill our mouths with His Word, we shall live the
abundant life. The Bible states that God's Words and commandments are life*.
* When we speak them and live by them, we shall experience that life.

*Matthew 19:17: "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is
none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the
commandments.*"

God's Words are eternal and they shall never pass away. If God said it,
then we can trust Him that it is true. He cannot lie.

*Mark 13:31: "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass
away."*

*Luke 4:4: "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."*

If we align our words with the Word of God we shall be blessed, however if
we just allow anything to come out of our mouths, *Verse 3* in* Proverbs 13
*tells us that it will cause us ruin. We must guard our mouths and not allow
the devil to use our mouths to speak evil things that bring destruction on
ourselves and others. We can be cursing others by speaking wrong things
against them or about them. Let us ask God to help us keep our mouths from
saying wrong things even as David did in the book of Psalms.

*Psalm 141:3: "Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my
lips." *

*Prayer for the Day:*

*Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your abundant love and mercy toward
us. Thank You for being patient with me as I am learning not to say things
that would hurt You or others. I do ask that You help me to guard my lips
from saying unkind things. Lord, even as David prayed these words, I ask
that they be my prayer also. "Let the words of my mouth and the mediation of
my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer."
* *Help us all, as Your children, to say edifying things about one another.
Thank You for the abundant life that is ours as we hear, speak, and obey the
Words of God. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.*

The True Vine
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every
branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear
fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already
clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I
will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain
in the vine." John 15:1-4

Jesus is the vine or the trunk. He is the one who brings nourishment
via the Holy Spirit, causing us to grow. Without him, there is no
fruit or growth. It is so essential that Christians spend time with
him each day and all throughout the day. It is only the branch that is
abiding in the vine that brings forth fruit. The Father is the
gardener or the vinedresser. It is His expertise that helps us to
reach our potential as branches. The first type of branch is the one
who does not produce fruit, yet note that the branch is "in me." This
translation "cuts off" is a bad one. The Greek word "airo" is used
here by our Lord and it means to "pick up; lift up; take up." It is
never used anywhere else in the scriptures to mean "cut off". The
picture is a beautiful one. When we are new in the vine, we tend to
grow close to the ground where we become dirty and the light cannot
come in. The vinedresser lovingly lifts us up and ties us to the
trellis, training us to
live above the world, he cleans off our leaves so that light might
come in and we can then produce fruit for His glory and honor. For the
branch that is productive the vinedresser prunes it that it might
become more productive. The goal is always to help each branch to
produce more and more fruit. Grapevines have a tendency to become very
bushy with leaves and when they do, the light cannot reach the buds
and the grapes are either very sad or don't progress at all. The
vinedresser must prune out the things in our lives that are keeping us
from being productive. They may not be bad things. They may be
activities that we have taken on for Him or our families, but they are
hindering our abiding in the vine and our future growth, so they must
go. All that the Father removes from our lives by way of trials is for
our growth!
Father, thank you for being such a loving vinedresser! I am so
thankful that you took such good care of me even when I was
unproductive for you. Thank you for the experiences that have caused
me to recognize the sin in my life and for removing it that I might
produce fruit for your glory. Thank you that you did not leave it at
that, but have continued to prune away the things in my life that are
showy, but keep me from being really fruitful for you. Continue to
prune me and help me to appreciate the love behind it. Help me to
abide in Jesus always, that I might be abundant in fruit for you. Amen

He Knows"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." John 1:14 NIV

The one to whom we pray knows our feelings. He knows our temptation.
He has felt discouraged. He has been hungry and sleepy and tired . . .
He nods in understanding when we pray in anger . . . He smiles when we
confess our weariness . . .
He, too, knew the drone of the humdrum and the weariness that comes
with long days . . . God became flesh and dwelt among us.

Devotional For Dieters 9/15

September 15

2 Peter 2:9
The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to
reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.

Woody had a weird dream. His hands and arms got so flabby that he
couldn't reach out and pick anything up anymore. Before him stood a
long table filled with marvelous things to eat, but he was unable to
take anything. He woke up sweat-soaked and shuddering. It had seemed
so real! He caught a glimpse of himself in the dresser mirror as he
sat alone in the night. He was getting awfully plump. Maybe somebody
was trying to tell him something. He was no fool. They say that God
moves in mysterious ways, and maybe that was true. No reason to push
the old luck. Tomorrow the diet begins!

Today's thought: I remember when my eyes could be bigger than my stomach!

What Your Wife Can't Get Enough Of - #6439
Thursday, September 15, 2011

Most of us urban or suburban type husbands don't go out with a bow and
arrow to bring in our family's dinner. That was in the good old days
where Dad went hunting for dinner. Instead, we go to a shop, or an
office, or some such place and we get a paycheck. Then we turn it over
to the grocery store.
But the principle is still the same: man is the provider, especially
for his wife. Now, I know there's a lot of women working today, and
that's changed some. But most men still pride themselves in being able
to meet their wife's needs, and that's why it's so tough for them when
they're out of work. See, above all else, a man wants to be known as a
good provider. Somehow we always seem to fall short, but that's okay
if we keep providing the most important provision for our wife's
needs.
I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about
"What Your Wife Can't Get Enough Of."
Our word for today from the Word of God is found in Genesis 25. We're
reading about the life of Isaac. Now, Isaac is married to a wonderful
woman named Rebecca, and he has been promised that he and his children
will be the beginning of a whole new nation. His father, Abraham, you
may remember fathered a young man named Ishmael before him that really
was a result of a relationship that was rushed, because they couldn't
wait for God to send Isaac.
Well, right now, Ishmael has 12 sons; Isaac still has no children. And
he and Rebecca are getting old. So we find what his response as a
husband is. "Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife because
she was barren. The Lord answered his prayer and his wife Rebecca
became pregnant. The babies jostled each other within her, and she
said, 'Why is this happening to me?' So she went to inquire of the
Lord."
Now the specific situation here is that Rebecca is unable to conceive
a child. But let's look beyond the specifics of physical barrenness
here, though God has miraculously answered that kind of prayer on the
couple's behalf. But let's look at it this way. There is something in
the life of Isaac's wife that he, as her husband, is powerless to
change. Do you have something like that in the life of your
wife--something you're powerless to change? Maybe she's got emotional
needs that are just too complex for you to understand, let alone meet
them. Hurts that deep inside her that you can't seem to heal, fears
that you can't seem to quell in her, weaknesses that you can't change
in her, answers that you just can't seem to have for her.
See, there's something you can do that could meet her deepest need.
It's what Isaac did. It says, "Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of
his wife." You know what a beautiful picture that is. The Godly man
will often be found praying to the Lord on behalf of his wife. The
kind of prayer that God can do the most with is the kind Isaac prayed.
It's a desperate prayer; it's an admission of our own inability.
There's a lot of God in that prayer, and a little of you. Pray with
your wife often, and the result will be your prayer will be answered.
Theirs was. They had two babies instead of one. And, as a result of
him praying for her, she herself went on to inquire of the Lord, and
she was a praying wife.
We can be delivered from that macho frustration that says, "I've got
to meet all my wife's needs" and then run from the ones that we can't
meet. Together, often, go to your knees and seek your Father for the
things that you need. If you're a husband, let your wife live in the
secure knowledge that you speak her name often in the Throne Room of
Almighty God. She's hungry for your prayer on her behalf, and she
can't get enough of it.

REASON #37 TO USE TRACTS
A good reason to use a tract this week is because it…
Provides a point of reference for the reader to find spiritual help by
contacting the publisher, church, individual or website listed on the
back.

In using tracts we're simply offering people we meet the opportunity
to know Jesus Christ, whom to know is life eternal! If We Never Meet
Again clearly shares that message and is easy to give.

WHY AFFLICTION? A TESTING OF FAITH
"Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou
hast tried me..." Psalm 17:3Many today make much of their "profession"
of faith. They are quick to tell you how involved they are in the many
ministries of the church...how meaningful are the traditions, customs,
and forms of worship they adhere to...how long they have been a
Christian and the circle of friends they fellowship with. All of these
things are wonderful and encouraging in many ways. Sadly, many
believers make these a "spiritual crutch" for their faith. The problem
lies, when these things "take precedent" for our time with God.
Nothing should supersede the time it takes for us to "grow in grace."

This involves the study of His Word... our time in prayer
communicating with God and He with us...of letting His Word become
applicable to every phase of our life. Having Christ the "priority and
focus of our life," will cause us to drive our stakes of faith deep
into His Word and our trust solely in Him. How needful this intimate
fellowship with Christ should be, when the "clouds of affliction"
envelope our lives.

When confronted with "affliction," the "reality of our faith" will
come to the forefront. It will be the "moment of truth" as to whether
our faith is but a shallow pretense...OR...whether our faith is "bent
on doing His will" and "committed to His plan and purpose" for our
lives. You see, there is a profound difference in a mere "profession
of our faith"...and "possessing the Christ" who is the object of our
faith and the Lord of our life.

Affliction often forms the battleground for the "testing of our
faith." There we will be tested as to the source of our faith. Is it a
faith that "we" have established by "our" doing, "our" activity, "our"
gifts, and "our" ability? Or will it prove, that we have come humbly
before the Cross, acknowledged our sin, received Christ as our Savior
and the Lord of our life...and cried out to Him in utter dependence,
knowing how incapable we are in ourselves to battle against the forces
of evil, and the devastating encounters of life.

When we exercise child-like faith, it is the "anchor that holds us
steadfast and secure." It gives us the blessed assurance of God's care
and concern. We put our trust in the Lord, "who is able to do
exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think" (Ephesians 3:20).
Our faith rests not on past experiences, creeds, customs, or
traditions, but on GOD HIMSELF.

Our faith believes in the supernatural power of God to do the
impossible. It is a deliberate commitment to the person of Jesus
Christ when there is no way...and we choose to fling ourselves in
reckless abandonment with utter confidence on God! Such experimental
Faith makes us "more than a conqueror" when tested by affliction.

Affliction often is the means to simplify our belief until our
relationship to God is exactly that of a child...simple faith in an
Almighty God...with nothing between. Faith must be tested, as in
affliction. Our faith can only be turned into a personal possession
through conflict. When our faith is steadfastly in Christ, it will be
in the ONE who never fails, and sticks closer to us than a brother.

Affliction is a "testing of our faith." May each encounter not only
stretch our faith...but drive us deeper to the FAITHFUL ONE!

Make every "test of faith"...a "triumph of faith!"

Hello All, we have a prayer request this a.m. On behalf of our member
Lorie. I do not know any of the real detail of this but she tripped
and fell yesterday and broke her leg and really messed up her knee.
She will be seeing the surgeon on Monday. Please keep her in prayer
for a good outcome of this and that our Great Physician move mightily
upon her. She has been through so very much, may our Father give her
strength. Blessings, Linda

Ruth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to
return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go;
and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people,
and thy God my God:

Ruth 1:17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be
buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part
thee and me.

When Ruth pledged her allegiance to Naomi and to the God of
Israel, it wasn't based on, "What ifs?" or circumstances. It was a
faith rooted in her devotion to Naomi and God even to the point of
death!

So often, I've received emails from people wondering why? "Why
this?" or "Why that?" But honestly, "His ways are higher than my ways
and His thoughts are higher than my thoughts" -- and I don't have easy
answers for much of the horrendous stuff that happens to us! But what
I do know is our faith is not based on "if this" circumstance was
changed then I could serve -- or "if this" problem didn't exist then
my life would be so much easier!

We tend to look at our circumstances, our problems, our status,
our situations -- however the faith we're called to have is a
"whatever and where ever" faith!

Let's stop looking at the "what ifs" and "why that" and start
looking to the "Who" of your life! The "who" of your life should be
Yeshua (Jesus) -- and when He is the "Who" of your life -- then the
rest of your life is "whatever and where ever" for your good and His
glory!

"Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory
and the majesty;
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all.
Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might;
In Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name.'"

Set your standards high and never settle for less. Believe in yourself
no matter what, but don't worry if you stray because the most
important thing is that you have learned along the way. Take all you
have become to be all that you can be. Soar high above the clouds, and
let your dreams be set free...

Bounce Back from Tough Times

"A lesson from the lawn."

Imagine if a blade of grass decided it had had enough. It was
done with having its head snipped off every weekend and its seeds –
its future – cut off in their prime. Who could blame it?

Yet, what does that ol' blade of grass do? It doesn't say: "I
give up! I'm getting nowhere!" It just keeps on growing. It
continually takes in the energy from the sunlight and magically
converts carbon dioxide from the air into food to make more leaves and
more seeds.

A blade of grass is resilient.

You too, can learn to be as resilient as the grass. You may be
cut down on a regular basis, yet your strength is in standing up,
dusting yourself off, and starting all over again. Even when grass is
covered in concrete, it finds a way to grow up through the cracks.

And, so must you.

Take a "leaf" out of the grass' book. Connect with your own
resilience and keep on growing.

Making even more
+++++++++++++++++++

Strength does not get used up when you use it. In fact, it
grows.

Sharing your wisdom with another person does not take that
wisdom away from you. It actually deepens your wisdom, and
makes it even more profound.

Giving your love does not in any way diminish the love you
have. It makes your love richer and more meaningful.

You can speak the truth all day long, and at the end of the
day that truth is more plentiful than it was at the
beginning. You can exercise compassion for month after
month, and you'll end up with even more compassion.

Some of the most powerful and valuable things in life are
the things that never get used up. Indeed, those things such
as love, integrity, truth, compassion and wisdom become more
plentiful the more they're used.

As each moment passes, make full, joyous and meaningful use
of life's goodness. When you do, you'll be making even more.

Don't Push the River!
For reading & meditation - Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under
heaven ..." (v. 1)

Refuse to be obsessed with time. It is right to be concerned about
time, but it is not right to be obsessed with it. Do you live life by
the clock? Then you are a candidate for stress. When filmmakers want
to create tension, they show a clock relentlessly ticking away. Such
tactics are pointless when applied to the ordinary issues of everyday
life. Nervous glances at a watch will generate tension when you are
caught in traffic, but they will not make the traffic move any faster.
Fretting will do nothing to alter the situation. So learn to relax,
and do not become intimidated by time. Some people live life as if
they are on a racing track, and set themselves rigid lap times for the
things they want to accomplish during the day. Two motorists were
given the task of driving for 1,700 miles. One was asked to drive as
fast as he could without breaking any speed limits; the other was told
to drive at any comfortable pace. At the end of their journeys, it was
found that the faster driver had consumed ten gallons more gas and
doubled the wear on his tires; by driving at a speed which, in the
end, proved to be only two miles per hour faster than the other
driver! A man said to me in a counseling session when I advised him to
slow down: "The trouble is that I'm in a hurry - but God isn't!" Learn
the wisdom of letting things develop at their own pace, and follow the
maxim that says: "Don't push the river - let it flow."
>Prayer: O Father, save me from being obsessed by time. Help me to see that I have all the time in the world to do what You want me to do. And when I am overconcerned, I am overwrought! Help me, dear Father. Amen.

Feeling Icky?

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins....
1 John 1:9

Recommended Reading
1 John 1:8-10

Though his bedtime had long passed, the five-year-old boy hollered for his
mother: "I have an icky feeling inside!" The tired mother trudged up the
stairs to her son's bedroom. Opening the door, she heard a long list of
5-year-old sins spill out of her child's troubled soul. They had talked
about sin before, but this time the boy understood what sin felt like--icky.
Do you ever get that icky feeling? Or maybe you've gotten so used to it that
you hardly notice anymore. Throughout history when sin was recognized,
revival took place. Moses needed to remove sin from the Israelite's camp
near Mount Sinai (Exodus 32). The revival only days earlier had radically
changed into outright rebellion. Gross sin was present, and many of the
Israelites were not convicted. It took the slaying of three thousand men to
purge the sin that had entered their camp.
The heaviness of sin weighs us down and keeps us from being used by the Lord
to our fullest potential. Repentance is needed. Confess your sin now, and
ask God to bring renewal to your heart and your sphere of influence.
It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present in us.

The Riches of God's Grace
Ephesians 1:1-14
Do you think of yourself as rich? No matter how much money you have, if
you're a believer in Jesus, you're extremely wealthy because God has
lavished the riches of His grace upon you. At the moment of salvation, He
deposited into your account "every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places
in Christ" (v. 3). Why, then, do so many believers live in spiritual
poverty?
1. Ignorance. Some Christians don't know about this unlimited spiritual
"bank account," and, therefore, they never draw upon it.
2. Confusion. Too many believers just don't know how to access the treasures
of God's grace. As a result, they worry and complain about their needs and
problems or in desperation come to the Lord begging and pleading for help,
never realizing His abundant supply has already been deposited into their
account.
3. Competing Interests. Distraction by things of this world may be the most
common reason. Christians in this category focus on possessions, pressing
responsibilities, and advancement but lack interest in God's spiritual
blessings.
The riches of God's grace supersede any earthly wealth. They give the peace
and contentment that money can never buy, and their benefits reach all the
way into eternity.
The only way to access God's spiritual riches is by faith. We don't have to
beg or persuade the Lord to give what He has already made available to us.
Instead, we simply choose to believe that we are who He says we are and can
do what He has called us to accomplish.

WHAT TO RENOUNCE

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty.
2 Corinthians 4:2

Have you "renounced the hidden things of dishonesty" - the things
that your sense of honour will not allow to come to the light? You
can easily hide them. Is there a thought in your heart about anyone
which you would not like to be dragged into the light? Renounce it as
soon as it springs up; renounce the whole thing until there is no
hidden thing of dishonesty or craftiness about you. Envy, jealousy,
strife - these things arise not necessarily from the disposition of
sin, but from the make - up of your body which was used for this kind
of thing in days gone by (see Romans 6:19 and 1 Peter 4:1-2).
Maintain a continual watchfulness so that nothing of which you would
be ashamed arises in your life.

"Not walking in craftiness," that is, resorting to what will carry
your point. This is a great snare. You know that God will only let
you work in one way, then be careful never to catch people the other
way; God's blight will be upon you if you do. Others are doing things
which to you would be walking in craftiness, but it may not he so
with them: God has given you another standpoint. Never blunt the
sense of your Utmost for His Highest. For you to do a certain thing
would mean the incoming of craftiness for an end other than the
highest, and the blunting of the motive God has given you. Many have
gone back because they are afraid of looking at things from God's
standpoint. The great crisis comes spiritually when a man has to
emerge a bit farther on than the creed he has accepted.

*Tell Francis I Miss Him*

by Francis Frangipane

If Satan cannot distract you with worldliness, He will overwhelm you with
weariness. Indeed, how easy it is to wear ourselves out; even good works
done without recharging ourselves in God can drain us of life and energy.
Daniel speaks of a time at the end of the age when the enemy will attempt to
"wear down the saints of the Highest One" (Daniel 7:25). God never intended
for us to do His will without His presence. The power to accomplish God's
purpose comes from prayer and intimacy with Christ. It is here, closed in
with God, where we find an ever-replenishing flow of spiritual virtue.
Weary in Well-Doing
In the early 1970s, during the beginning of my ministry, the Lord called me
to consecrate to Him the time from dawn until noon. I spent these hours in
prayer, worship, and the study of His Word. I would often worship God for
hours, writing songs to Him that came from this wonderful sanctuary of love.
The presence of the Lord was my delight, and I know my time with Him was not
only well spent but also well pleasing to us both.
However, as my life began to bear the fruit of Christ's influence, the Holy
Spirit brought people to me for ministry. In time, as more people came, I
found myself cutting off forty-five minutes from the end of my devotional
time. On occasion, ministry to people extended into the night, and I stopped
rising as early as I had.
Church growth problems began to eat at the quality of my remaining time;
ministerial expansion, training younger ministries, and more counseling and
deliverance crowded the already limited time I had left. Of course, these
changes did not happen overnight, but the months and years of increasing
"success" were steadily eroding my devotional life. In time I found myself
in a growing ministry but with a shrinking anointing to sustain it.
One day an intercessor called who prayed regularly for me. He told me that
during the night the Lord spoke to him in a dream concerning me. I was eager
to hear what the Lord had revealed to my friend, thinking perhaps He was
going to increase our outreach or maybe supply some needed finances. I asked
him to tell me the dream.
What the Lord said had nothing directly to do with the projects and
priorities that were consuming my time. He simply said, "Tell Francis I miss
him."
Oh, what burdens we carry — what weariness accumulates — when we neglect the
privilege of daily spending time with Jesus. I cried as I repented before
the Lord, and I readjusted my priorities. No longer would I counsel people
in the mornings. I would spend this time again with God.
I was sure I would lose some of the people who had recently joined the
church. These were people who had come specifically for personal ministry. I
knew I would not have the same time for them as before, but I had to make my
decision for God.
The next Sunday morning I announced to the congregation that my mornings
were off limits, consecrated to God. "Please," I said, "no calls or
counseling. I need to spend time with the Lord." What happened next shocked
me. The entire church rose and applauded! They wanted a leader who spent
more time with God! They were tired of a tired pastor.
As we enter the coming days, our primary activity will be to minister to
Christ. Certainly there will be increased pressures. There will also be
times of great harvest and spiritual activity. No matter what circumstances
surround us, we must position ourselves first and continually in the
presence of God. For to miss our time with Jesus is to miss His glory in the
day of His presence.
Father, it is the fragrance of Jesus, cultivated in secret, that manifests
through us the knowledge of Him in every place. Forgive me for being anxious
and troubled about many things, when to sit at Your feet was the only
necessary thing. I choose now that better part, and gratefully receive from
Your intimacy the better things which shall never be taken away.
