Just like Israel's submarine fleet is secretive, so are its commanders.
Colonel Oded, 44, has recently completed his tenure as the fleet's
commander, ending a chapter of more than 20 years where he performed almost
every command post in the fleet. "If a layman would see submarine troops
from the side, he would not understand how we can withstand it," Oded says
in a rare interview. "It's a group of people who perform missions at very
certain locations and feel like home there. People wake up for their shifts,
eat breakfast and follow a routine in the least trivial locations one can
imagine."
At this time the Navy is preparing to double Israel's submarine fleet from
three to six in the next five years, making it one of the region's largest
and most advanced fleets. As result of this process, Oded was not only
required to double the submarine fleet's manpower, but also to create a
larger cadre career officers for a lengthy service term, as the need for
professional expertise will only be growing. Hence, the Navy realized it
must offer these soldiers the army's best service terms. For example, sub
troops can study almost anything they want, as long as they stay in the
force. Notably, a sub officer is required to serve nine years at least.
Oded says that doubling the fleet's size is "not only a challenge for the
army; it's a challenge for the State." When asked whether Israel needs such
large fleet, especially in an era of cutbacks, Oded has no hesitation: "I
have no doubt we need it. A large submarine fleet gives us much more than a
multiplier effect in strategic and security terms."
When I ask Oded whether his troops' passports would be filled with stamps,
had they theoretically stamped them at border control, he smiles and says
nothing. Indeed, we can imagine that these virtual passports would have been
full of stamps. The Navy's submarines, as opposed to other vessels, never
dock at foreign ports, including friendly ones. This is the nature of the

Turkey's Military Electronic Industry developed a new identification system
for its F-16 fighter jets that will allow it to attack Israeli targets,

A recent issue of *Biblical Archaeology Review*, March/April 2009, vol.
35, no. 2, has a fascinating article by Dan Levene entitled *Rare Magic
Inscription on Human Skull*. Levene describes this magic incantation which
is inscribed in Aramaic, a Semitic Biblical language along with Hebrew and
probably the language of Jesus, on a human skull. There have been 2000 bowls
found with these magic incantations which date from the 3rd to the 7th
century AD from Jewish communities in Babylonia and surprisingly they were
made at the same time and from the same communities that also produced the
most intricate, rational and complex legalistic accomplishment of Rabbinic
Judaism, the *Babylonian Talmud* (compiled around 400 AD). This compendium
of Jewish Oral Law by learned rabbinic scholars complimented, clarified and
expanded the written Law of the *Torah* - the Pentateuch-the first five
books of the *Bible*).
As Levene pointed out though, "belief in demons was widespread at this time
among the Jews of this area as well as among other peoples." Some would
argue that the Jews, who were still in captivity in Babylon at this time,
learned all of this from their pagan captors. They did influence King
Solomon with all his pagan wives and practices. However, Lilith is first
mentioned in the Biblical Book of *Isaiah* written around 700 BC. In *Isaiah
34:14* she is called the night demon. Five hundred years later she is
mentioned in the *Dead Sea Scroll*, *Songs of the Sages*. The later *Zohar*,
the Bible of Jewish Mysticism, compiled in 1200 AD also mentions her.
At this time in history there was a high infant as well as a high birth
mother mortality rate, and these were attributed to Lilith. Lilith was said
to be roaming the earth looking for pregnant women and newborn infants to
attack. Lilith emerges later on in the medieval period as the first mate of
Adam in the Garden of Eden who refused to be subservient to him and
subsequently as the wife of Samael (Satan).
In the *Midrash* (story, legend) *Alpha Ben Sira* written around 800 AD,
Lilith's origin is first discussed. She supposedly was the first woman
created independently just like Adam but unlike Adam who was created from
clean dirt (Hebrew-adamah), she was created from filth and sewage. Adam was
said to have mated with this demoness and from that union sprang innumerable
demons that still plague mankind. Lilith did not want to be subservient to
Adam. She did not want to lie beneath him during lovemaking. Lilith was the
quintessential, feminist archetypal figure. When Adam refused her wishes,
she flew off. Adam complained to God and He sent three angels, Senoy,
Sansenoy and Samangelof to bring her back. They found her at the Red Sea
bearing 100 demons a day. They begged her to return or they would destroy
her, but she refused. She told them that God had ordered her to take charge
of newborn children (Satan and his cohorts are liars)-boys until the 8th day
and circumcision and girls until their 20th day. Lilith told them if she saw
their three names on an amulet she would spare the children. Thus, some
Jewish women to this day wear an amulet with the names of these angels on it
to ward off the evil eye of Lilith.
Lilith was also thought to be the great temptress of men. She was a succubus
that attached itself to men causing them to err. She was also the one that
supposedly caused nocturnal emissions in men. God then created Eve as a
helpmate to Adam from his own side. Many an incantation bowl said "Adam and
Eve out Lilith."
To combat demons that were thought to cause a myriad of medical problems,
mishaps and other ills, some Jews invoked numerous magic rites and formulas.
They also invoked magic formulas to gain the attention of a potential suitor
or to ward off an unwelcome person. Thus, there were both love incantations
as well as curses. These various incantations have been found on bowls,
parchment, tin, lead, copper, silver, gold, eggs and less frequently on
human skulls.
Levene got the opportunity to view some of these skulls in the Moussaieff
collection as he worked on his doctoral dissertation.
These skulls just surfaced over the years on the antiquities market and were
not excavated professionally so their validity, context, and age are still
unknown.
Surprisingly, in this *Babylonian Talmud*, *Tractate Sanhedrin 65 b,* it
states that "there are two kinds of necromancy, the one where the dead is
raised by naming him and the other where he is invoked by means of a skull."
This is all fascinating in the light of the fact that first of all
necromancy is forbidden in Judaism (*Torah*) as was the handling a corpse or
a human skull.
According to the Torah (the Jewish Law), sorcery, witchcraft, omens, spells,
mediums and "calling up the dead" are detestable to the Lord (*Deuteronomy
18:10*). In spite of this admonition, Saul went to the witch of Endor to
call up the dead spirit of Samuel (*1 Samuel 28:11-15*) but he as well as
his sons subsequently died for doing this (*1 Chronicles 10:13*). Again in
the *Torah*, the Jewish Law, it is written in *Numbers 6:6,* that one should
not go near a dead body. How else could one get a human skull?
The incantations on the skull referred to "spirits" and "Lilith's." Similar
skulls in the Berlin Museum refer to the son and grandson of Lilith as well
as seven other angels and the archangel Gabriel.
There are many representations of Lilith in Western Art and literature.
There is a fresco on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel where Michelangelo
depicts Lilith as a half woman and half snake tempting both Adam and Eve to
fall. The West Facade of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris built around 1210 AD
also depicts Adam and Eve at the Tree of Good and Evil in the Garden tempted
by Lilith in the center as the snake that seduced them. Lilith is also
referenced in Milton's *Paradise Lost* of 1667, Goethe's *Faust* of 1808,
Robert Browning's poem: *Adam, Lilith and Eve *of 1883 and even Aleister
Crowley's De Arte Magica.
The reason that I am telling you all of this is because some women speak of
Lilith as the Divine Feminine, the Queen of Heaven sometimes arriving on an
UFO to help mankind.
Be aware that there are negative feminine archetypes as well as positive
ones. Some call this Queen of Heaven arriving in an UFO, Lilith, but
remember that the Lilith character in Jewish mythology killed newborns,
tempted men and attached herself to them to cause them harm. Many feminist
groups and even some lesbian groups use the name of Lilith endearingly.
Beware. She will slaughter you given half the chance. You say that you
believe in God but demons (i.e. Lilith) also believe and they tremble at the
thought (*James 2:19*). Submit yourself therefore to God and resist the
devil (Lilith) and it will flee from you (*James 4:7*).

ARMED CONFLICT RETURNS TO ISRAEL
Major clashes broke out between Palestinian and Israeli armed forces in mid
August in what many fear might portend fuller warfare looming on the
horizon. Sparked off by the worst Islamic terror attacks against Israeli
citizens in several years, the clashes left scores dead and wounded on both
sides. The initial Palestinian terrorist assaults were launched from the
Egyptian Sinai Peninsula by a militant Muslim group closely linked to the
radical Hamas movement, which repeated its calls during the month for
Israel's ultimate destruction. An Egyptian government investigation later
revealed that three Egyptian Muslim terrorists took part in the Palestinian
raids—an ominous development indeed.
The terrorist outrages, which left eight Jews dead and several dozen
wounded, were quickly met by Israeli Air Force strikes on Palestinian
targets in the Gaza Strip. This in turn led to the heaviest rocket
bombardments of nearby Israeli population centers from the Hamas-ruled
coastal zone since the IDF's Cast Lead military operation ended in January
2009. Although the new Israeli Iron Dome anti-rocket system successfully
intercepted quite a few of the over 150 rockets fired at Israeli cities and
towns in the week after the attacks, many rockets and mortar shells did
succeed in reaching their targets, leaving one Jewish civilian dead and
several others severely wounded, including an illegal Palestinian worker.
Normal life was disrupted in Beersheva, Ashdod, Ashkelon and other areas of
the south during the bombardments.
A number of Israeli Middle East analysts expressed serious concern that the
Palestinian-Egyptian Islamic terror attacks may have been ordered by the
extremist Shiite Muslim Iranian regime in a test run of what to expect from
a massive Lebanese Hizbullah rocket blitz upon the whole of Israel. Many
said the prospects of such a Hizbullah assault grew significantly in the
wake of growing international calls for Syrian strongman Bashar Assad to
immediately step down from power as his people's blood continues to flow in
his streets. Experts warned that the rogue Iranian mullahs will not allow
their main Arab ally to go down without a major blowback, most likely aimed
at Israel. This came as press reports said Iran has begun moving its
uranium centrifuge enrichment facilities into underground bunkers in
apparent anticipation of Israeli and/or NATO air strikes against the
country's threatening nuclear development program.
Another attack was launched by a lone terrorist in Tel Aviv on August 29th
leaving seven Israelis wounded, several seriously. The Palestinian
perpetrator from Nablus north of Jerusalem commandeered a taxi after
stabbing the driver and drove it into a nearby policeman manning a roadblock
in the south Tel Aviv neighborhood of Jaffa. Shouting out a Muslim slogan,
he then jumped out of the taxi and stabbed five other policemen and a
security guard. Police said the 20 year old terrorist was stopped by the
roadblock while on his way to kill high school students attending a special
pre-school-year function at a nearby popular nightclub. The club was filled
with over 2,000 teenagers. Authorities issued warnings that additional
Palestinian terror attacks are expected in the coming days and weeks.
Israeli officials also kept a close eye on several other regional tremors
during the month, especially the war in Libya and growing Islamic agitation
in Egypt. Concerns grew that Libyan weapons of mass destruction might make
their way east to the Gaza Strip in the wake of the Gaddafi family regime's
blood-soaked collapse.
Meanwhile Israeli street protests against the high cost of housing, food,
fuel and other commodities continued to rock the country, with the largest
public demonstration in several years held in Tel Aviv. Tent cities
expanded throughout the small country while doctors finally ended their
months-long work sanctions in demand of higher wages. Some charged that
socialist street protest leaders are trying to topple the
democratically-elected Netanyahu government in a similar "popular" fashion
to the way Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was driven from power last
February. Intense government focus on the large protest movement quickly
waned in the wake of the renewed security crisis as officials prepared for
the planned Palestinian Authority statehood declaration in New York the
second half of September and the violence that might spark off.
TERROR FROM SINAI
As previously noted in these monthly reports, Israeli officials had been
expressing growing alarm at the escalating breakdown of law and order in the
Egyptian-ruled Sinai Peninsula this year, which was handed over to Cairo's
control as part of the American-brokered Camp David peace accords signed in
1978. It seemed to many as if the interim military government that assumed
power in the wake of President Mubarak's forced ouster either could not, or
did not want to, enforce basic security in the large desert peninsula.
Hamas and Al Qaida-backed terrorists blew up the natural gas pipeline that
brings fuel to Israel and Jordan no less than five times over the past few
months, causing major flow disruptions which added to ballooning fuel prices
in both countries. Armed Bedouin gangs roamed freely in many areas,
including near some coastal resort towns popular with European, American and
Israeli tourists.
The fear in Israeli governmental circles was that, with the Egyptian Muslim
Brotherhood movement now openly contending for power in Cairo in the wake of
the White House-supported overthrow of America's closest Arab ally, Islamic
militants felt emboldened to act as they wished in the sparsely-populated
desert zone. Alarm bells increased early in the summer when intelligence
reports revealed the Iranian and Syrian-backed Hamas movement was moving
many of its weapons production facilities to the Sinai Peninsula, apparently
assuming that IDF jets would not be politically able to attack them there
due to the peace treaty and the long-standing alliance between Washington
and Cairo.
The ability of Hamas to operate freely in Sinai had been severely restricted
by the Mubarak government. However, recognizing that the "populist"
movement to oust it was largely comprised of Islamic groups that support
Hamas' extreme anti-Israel stand, the new interim government opened border
crossings from the Gaza Strip into Egypt, allowing terrorists to flood into
the peninsula. As a result, Israeli officials sternly warned their citizens
to stay away from the Egyptian resort zone, fearing more Israelis would be
kidnapped by Hamas militants. Meanwhile the desert zone became the
preferred route for weapons smuggled to the Gaza Strip from the war-torn
Arab country of Libya due west of Egypt. Israeli security officials pointed
to substantial evidence that Egyptian security forces were looking the other
way, probably greased by large bribes, as the weapons made their way across
the north of the troubled country. They noted that eastern Libya, from
where the latest "Arab Spring" anti-government rebel force sprouted, is a
known Islamic fundamentalist stronghold that has long expressed strong
support for the Hamas anti-peace stand.
Growing lawlessness in the Sinai Peninsula caused Israeli leaders to
privately demand that Cairo take control of the situation. Egyptian
officials then decided to send a squadron of 1,000 soldiers into the area
after receiving permission from Israel to do so (as part of the Camp David
accords, Egyptian troop movements into the demilitarized zone must be
coordinated with Jerusalem). Troops entered the area on August 15, heading
mainly to the north where the pipeline attacks have taken place. An
existing small border police patrol force was already operating as usual
along the 150 mile shared border with Israel, where the Netanyahu government
is constructing a security fence (way too slowly, say many critics). The
police force had long proved to be ill-equipped to halt a constant flow of
illegal infiltration into Israel across the mostly unmarked desert border,
with thousands of migrants entering Israeli territory each year, mostly
coming from the war-ravaged African country of Sudan, or Somalia.
DYING FOR ALLAH
Given this background, it was no surprise to Israeli officials when
intelligence agents learned in early August that a major Palestinian
terrorist operation was being planned in the Gaza Strip to be launched from
Sinai into southern Israel. Arab sources indicated the plan was in its
final stages of readiness, and would include a large number of terrorists
infiltrating across the international border into the Israeli Negev Desert
north of the port city of Eilat. However the sources indicated the goal
would be to kidnap more Israeli soldiers in a similar fashion to the cross
border Hamas raid that nabbed IDF soldier Gilad Shalit in June 2006 (talks
to secure his release stalled in Cairo in August). This information led IDF
and police officers to assume any infiltration would take place under the
cover of darkness, not during the middle of the sun-soaked day.
Whether those reports were wrong or deliberately distorted was not
immediately clear to Israeli officials, but in the end, a much more deadly
operation was actually being planned. Indeed, the terrorists did hope to
kidnap some additional soldiers, but their malevolent goal was to kill as
many Jews as possible before undoubtedly being killed themselves. In fact,
it was miraculous that dozens did not perish in the combined assaults which
rocked Israel on August 18.
The attacks began just before noon after four Palestinian-Egyptian armed
squads comprised of 12 men (earlier reports that up to 20 were involved were
later downscaled), infiltrated the border right under the noses of an
Egyptian army outpost—leading many to immediately suspect collusion. The
four terrorist cells then spread out over an eight mile area. One of the
squads, wearing brown Egyptian army uniforms, opened fire on a passenger bus
traveling from Beersheva to Eilat on Highway 12, the main road to Eilat
which runs perilously close to the border. Like most Israeli public buses,
the passengers included many civilians, along with male and female soldiers
returning home for the weekend. As windows shattered from the impact of the
hail of bullets, the driver wisely speeded up after spotting the attacking
terrorists. Around a dozen passengers, including some children, were
wounded as the bullets flew, mostly when glass shards struck them.
Miraculously, no one was killed.
Had the same bus been attacked by another squad, the death toll would have
undoubtedly been very high. That terrorist cell managed to position itself
right next to the road, springing up as a second bus approached. One of the
terrorists then rushed toward the transport vehicle and detonated suicide
explosives hidden under his uniform, killing the bus driver along with
himself. Unbeknownst to the Islamic terrorists, the public bus was empty of
passengers, with the driver on his way to pick some up. He was later buried
in Beersheva. Then a third squad opened fire at an Israeli passenger car,
killing its female driver. The same attacker then fired a rocket-propelled
grenade at an Israeli Air Force helicopter that sped to the area after news
of the first attack reached nearby military units that had been reinforced
in light of the intelligence reports of an impending attack. The grenade
fell short of its target and the terrorist was killed.
The deadliest incident was perpetrated by the fourth squad several minutes
later. Another private vehicle carrying two sisters in their fifties and
their husbands to a planned vacation in Eilat was ambushed by a hail of
bullets, leaving all four civilian passengers instantly dead. With mourning
relatives and friends in attendance, the two slain couples were later laid
to rest in their hometown not far from Tel Aviv. Like the other assaults,
the vicious killings revealed that the terrorists were not just out to
capture or kill Israeli soldiers, but to murder civilian women, children and
men as well.
Two of the Israeli fatalities were members of the beefed-up security forces
stationed in the area to prevent the attacks. One of them, Pascal Avrahami,
was a 49 year old member of an elite police anti-terror unit known as
YAMAM. He had been sent to the area from his native Jerusalem. He left
behind a grieving wife and three children. The other victim, 22 year old
Moshe Naftali, was a well-regarded IDF staff sergeant from Ofra, a Jewish
community of over 3,000 residents located in the disputed territories north
of Jerusalem. Sadly, it later emerged that he had been killed by "friendly
fire" in the midst of an intense gun battle with the terrorist squad.
Still, both men perished in the line of duty while attempting to halt the
spate of unprovoked terrorist attacks upon their civilian countrymen.
SHOWDOWN WITH EGYPT
Based on their earlier intelligence reports, Israeli official quickly
announced that the so-called "Popular Resistance Committees" based in the
Gaza Strip was the group behind the coordinated terror attacks. It was
founded in the early days of the first Palestinian uprising in 1988. The
PRC combines Hamas representatives with other terror groups including the
Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad, several smaller Islamic militant groups with
links to Al Qaida, and elements of the PLO.
Within hours of the atrocious armed assaults, IDF jets were pounding known
PRC positions in the Gaza Strip, killing the overall head of the group and
other operatives, along with some of their non-combatant relatives. Hamas
positions were struck later on since the group is involved with the PRC and
is anyway in overall control of the Gaza Strip from where the deadly assault
emanated. More than that, it was quickly determined that Hamas was allowing
Islamic Jihad and other groups to fire powerful Iranian-supplied Grad
rockets into Israel, striking the cities of Ashkelon, Ashdod, Beersheva and
several other cities and towns and kibbutz communities.
A number of Israelis were injured as the rockets crashed down despite the
fact that many were intercepted by the Iron Dome laser system (which costs
lots of money to operate due to its high electricity usage). Many buildings
and cars were damaged or destroyed and fields and trees were set on fire. A
Jewish yeshiva seminary in Ashdod suffered a direct hit with 12 wounded,
several seriously. Three illegal Palestinian workers from Samaria were
later wounded in the strategic port city, one severely, when more rockets
struck two days after the terrorist infiltration. Everyone in the region
was ordered to remain close to bomb shelters as sirens were periodically
sounded to warn of incoming rockets. An outdoor late August festival held
annually on the Ashkelon beach was cancelled.
As the initial Air Force bombing runs were being launched, IDF ground forces
were clashing directly with Egyptian soldiers for the first time in many
years. According to an Egyptian government report released several days
later, the serious clashes began when IDF soldiers pursued some of the
terrorist attackers into Egyptian territory. Egyptian border police patrols
then opened fire on the Israelis who shot back at them. An IDF helicopter
then fired two rockets at the fleeing terrorists, prompting more Egyptian
police and army fire at the Israelis. Three Egyptians were killed in the

The Obama administration has turned down a Turkish request for drones or for
the deployment of US Predators at Turkish bases until Ankara stops
threatening Israel with armed attack, debkafile's military and Washington
sources report. Turkey has no functioning unmanned aerial vehicles at
present. The "technical problems" grounding the Herons Israel sold Ankara
have crippled the Turkish army's campaign against the Kurdish PKK rebels –
both in northern Iraq and in southeast Turkey.
In recent days, therefore, the rebels have stepped up their raids on Turkish
territory, killing nine people including army and police personnel.
Israeli officialdom and military chiefs are doing their utmost to keep the
lid on the spiraling Turkish-Israel

claiming that a military clash is not imminent because the US, NATO and
Europe won't let it happen. Turkey is after all a member of the North

the confrontation has already broken surface. Despite Western efforts to

challenge and disarm Israel warships outside its 12-mile territorial waters
was deliberately leaked by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's office to
coincide with his trip to Cairo.
Israeli officials are making every effort to conceal the arrival of the
frigates opposite Israeli waters, while Washington, the NATO command in
Brussels try to dissuade Turkey from carrying out its threat to disable the
weapons of Israel naval vessels.
They fear that a firefight would drive the Israel-Turkish crisis into
uncharted waters.
Since Saturday, Sept. 10, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has
been in direct touch with Erdogan and warned him that a military clash by a
NATO member with the Israeli Navy would have grave consequences for Turkey's
future military ties with the US and the alliance.
Our sources explain that the denial of advanced US intelligence technology
on the heels of its cutoff from Israel would present the Turkish army with
serious operational, intelligence and high-tech difficulties.
These difficulties are already hobbling Ankara's counterinsurgency campaign
against the PKK at a critical juncture.
Since Aug. 17, a full-blown war has been underway against PKK strongholds in
northern Iraq – generally unnoticed in the West and in Israel. The US,
Turkey, Iran and the Kurdish Regional Government of northern Iraqi have
formed an improbable coalition to cooperate in extinguishing the Kurdish
rebellions staged by the PKK against Turkey and the PJAK against Iran.
The US has confined its role to relaying intelligence collected by its
drones to the Turkish military and from its observation posts on the
northern Iraqi-Iranian border to Iranian Revolutionary Guards units.
The data is processed through the KRG government in Irbil. The KRG has made
its army's military and intelligence commands available for coordinating the
allies's operations through its territory.
Turkish special operations units are backed by Turkish air strikes and
coordinate their operations with the Americans and the Iranians.
The main battlefields are the Qandil Mountains region, Sinath-Haftanin,
Hakurk and Gara.
The Turkish effort is impeded by three problems:
1. They are short of the knowhow for operating the intelligence and
technical systems of the 10 Heron drones purchased from Israel since they
expelled the Israeli technicians operating and keeping them in order last
year.
Ankara says two of the drones are "non-operational" and three others suffer
from intractable engine problems.
Five more were shipped back to Israel because of a Turkish complaint that
they never reached the altitudes guaranteed by Israel's aerospace
industries. debkafile's sources report that test flights carried out in
Israel showed nothing wrong with the drones' altitude capability.
2. The home-made Turkish drones (ANKA) brought into service were unable to
climb high enough to perform over the rebel hideouts perched in the lofty
Qandil mountain peaks. They also lacked the electronics for relaying
surveillance data to their command center.
3. Both Tehran and Ankara have no doubt that the intelligence data released
to them by the US military in the course of the counterinsurgency campaign
is partial and limited. The complete picture remains exclusively in American
hands. , Turkey sought the deployment of US Predators on its soil to fill
the gap. That request was spurned until Prime Minister Erdogan backs away
from his aggressive stance against Israel.
For those reasons, Turkish Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin announced
Tuesday that his country would launch a cross-border ground offensive
against the PKK in northern Iraq at any time.
Our military sources report that Ankara is pondering the same sort of
campaign as Israel launched in Gaza against Hamas terrorism in Dec. 2008. It
aims to demonstrate Turkey's ability to defeat the Kurdish rebels without US
or Israeli drones.
Israel was wrongly accused of threatening to play the Kurdish card against
the Erdogan government in reprisal for those threats. The fact is that
Turkey is playing the Kurdish card against itself.

The move, only the latest in Erdogan's bellicose rhetorical

Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara in 2010 "grounds for

that attempted to lynch the commandos were killed when non-lethal weapons

Israel's use of force resulting in the deaths as "excessive," it

with its former ally it will continue the Gaza-blockade.

for eight long years through proxy forces like the Mehdi Army, Iran feels
she is very close to victory over the "Great Satan". Now is the time to lay
low so the Americans can safely leave on schedule.
How badly do the Shi'ite forces want American forces to leave? they are
offering to secure the roads they need to complete their physical
withdrawal!

Remember, also, that the civilian government of Iraq is controlled by

Turkey is even considering an armed attack against Kurd positions in
northern Iraq!

"Turkey says it is considering a cross-border ground offensive against
Kurdish rebels operating in northern Iraq. Turkish Interior Minister Idris
Naim Sahin said Tuesday that discussions with Iraq are underway regarding a
land operation against the rebels, saying an offensive could be launched at
'any time'."
If Turkey launched its attack into northern Iraq against Kurdish positions,
might that complicate or even stall the American withdrawal plans" It might,
especially when you consider that American foreign policy has always been
tilted toward the Kurds.
However, since everyone in the region hates the Kurds, American reaction
might be muted, if the operation is limited in scope and in duration.
Turkey is even belligerently forcing herself into the Israel - Palestinian
nationhood dispute.

"Capitalizing on Turkey's growing stature and influence across the Middle
East at a time of regional upheaval, its prime minister ramped up the
pressure on Israel and the United States on Tuesday, telling Arab League
ministers they must vote for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations
this month. 'Recognition of the Palestinian state is the only correct way',
the prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said in a speech to members of
Arab League in Cairo on the second day of his so-called 'Arab Spring' tour.
" 'It is not a choice but an obligation'."
This last sentence was so bold that it caught the attention of politicians
everywhere.
"Mr. Erdogan's support of Palestinian statehood was certainly no surprise.
But the commanding tone of his message, coupled with his increasingly
hostile attitude toward Israel — which once considered Turkey its close
friend — underscored how Turkey has now cast itself as a leader in the
region."
Yes, Turkey does see herself as an Islamic heavyweight in the region, and is
now beginning to flex her muscles. In the process, Turkey is realigning
herself from the Western Orbit to an Islamic Orbit. This next paragraph
captures this move from the two alignments very well.
"His remarks also constituted a new challenge to both Israel and the United
States, which has promised to oppose any move at the United Nations General
Assembly to grant statehood to the Palestinians on Israeli-occupied lands
... 'Let's raise the Palestinian flag and let that flag be the symbol of
peace and justice in the Middle East' Mr. Erdogan said. 'Let's contribute to
the establishment of peace and stability in the Middle East that it
deserves'."

to the fulfillment of Isaiah 34:12, one of God's prophecies concerning the
End of the Age annihilation of the Palestinian people!
Please take a moment to read this prophecy:
"They shall call its nobles to proclaim the kingdom, but nothing shall be
there, and all its princes shall be no more."
This prophecy contains two elements, both of which are to be fulfilled
sooner rather than later.
1) Palestinians "nobles" (leaders) shall proclaim that they have a kingdom
but it shall prove to be an empty declaration, as there shall be nothing
there. No real modern nation will arise from this declaration.
2) It leaders shall suddenly disappear!

belief that today's Palestinians will be totally annihilated in fulfillment

Bill Salus picks up this theme in his DVD, "Isralestine" and expands upon it
greatly, pointing out that Isaiah 34 adds much prophetic detail, as it
certainly does. However, what Bill Salus does is to enlarge this smaller
picture of the prophesied annihilation of the Palestinians to consider the
larger picture, with Israel and Egypt and Syria and Iran and Turkey, and of
course, Russia.
With this thought in mind, let us return to our featured news article for
more information on how Turkey is stepping out on this much larger stage.
"Turkey accelerated its growing stature in the Arab world — and further
upended the regional order — when it downgraded diplomatic relations with
Israel and expelled its ambassador early this month ... Mr. Erdogan was
already lionized across the region for his commitment to Islamist politics,
pluralistic constitutional democracy and energetic economic development. In
Egypt, aspiring Islamist politicians often try to sell themselves as 'the
Egyptian Erdogan'."
Prime Minister Erdogan also strongly opposed Israel, using words not seen in
public from an Islamic leader. Listen:
"Mr. Erdogan seemed to present himself as a spokesman for the backlash
against Israel unleashed by the revolts across the region. 'Israel is the
West's spoiled child', he said, 'to this day it has never executed a
decision by the international community'."
Even should this allegation be true, Israel cannot abide by decisions issued
against her by the perennial anti-semitic United Nations! The Arab side of
any issue has always been supported by the world body; if Israel began
obeying the decisions of the International Community, she would be "drinking
the waters of the Mediterranean" very soon.
The Turkish Prime Minister concluded his remarks by announcing he was
planning to meet with both the Palestinian Authority and the Hamas leaders.
"I told Abbas to come with me so that we can all go together, Mahmoud Abbas,
Erdogan and Ismail Haniya', Mr. Erdogan said. 'You know what he said? He
said, yes I will come with you. I have hope and I am waiting for this
visit'."
Now, let us consider the issue of the empty Palestinian nation-hood
declaration.

At this point, I feel the need to remind our readers that Israel and the
United States offered Palestinian President Yassir Arafat control over about
96% of the West Bank and he turned the offer down cold! Let us review this

"Deep, dark pessimism reigns supreme in the hearts and minds of the average
Israeli citizen today. They have witnessed their Prime Minister attempt to
make the most incredible concessions ever thought possible to the
Palestinian leader, Yassir Arafat, at the Camp David summit in late July.
These concessions shocked and frightened most of the Jewish population of
Israel, as they offered to give Arafat unprecedented control over
unprecedented blocks of land within Israel and even within parts of
Jerusalem. Many thoughtful Israelis wondered aloud if such concessions might
not threaten the very existence of modern Israel. However, instead of
accepting the offer of concessions, Arafat arrogantly refused it, and

than the total annihilation of Israel. But, given this known fact, Jews
within Israel were shocked when Arafat arrogantly rejected Prime Minister
Barak's sweeping concessions!"
It is true, Mr. Erdogan, that Yassir Arafat arrogantly refused the offer
from President Bill Clinton and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barack,
demanding 100%, not the 96% he was offered. If the Palestinians were truly
interested in peacefully living side-by-side with Israel, Arafat would have
accepted this peace offer.
Instead, Arafat put the entire world on notice that the only peace he was
willing to give the Israeli people is the "peace of the grave"!
Adolf Hitler would have been proud, for that was also his peace to the
Jewish people.

"Despite repeated assurances from President Obama and military leaders that
the U.S. would not send uniformed military personnel into Libya, four U.S.
service members arrived on the ground in Tripoli over the weekend."
The State Department was adamant in rejecting any idea that these four
military experts were an adavnce of any sort, preparing the way for larger
numbers of troops in the future. 'State Department spokeswoman Victoria
Nuland assured reporters Monday that the four individuals are not in Libya
to fight. 'When the president made his commitment to 'no boots on ground'
... obviously that had to do with entering into the fray between the Qaddafi
forces and the Libyan freedom fighters, and that's not what these guys are
engaged in'," Nuland said. "
"Kirby also made clear these troops are in no way part of a military
operation on the ground."
Perhaps this statement is true. We hope it is, but we realize the pressing
need for Western powers to inject expertise into the Libyan Provisional
Government. As we have stated earlier, Gaddafi was so efficient in
physically eliminating his opponents that no one in Libya today had the
expertise to rule in a manner in which peace and order prevailed, instead of
anarchy.
Is it possible that these four "U.S. service members" were part of an
advance team of experts who will assist the new Provisional government in
ruling Libya? We can only wait to find out. Events will tell us the reason
these four unidentified "service members" have landed in Libya.

THE SHACK "BIBLE PROJECT" [Excerpts]
In talking with people about [The Shack], I heard one thing over and over
again: "Wow, THE SHACK's vision of God is awesome! Too bad it doesn't sound
much like the God of the Bible..."
I got tired of hearing that, so I decided to do something about it. That
'something' is The Shack Bible Project - my way of suggesting that Jesus,
Papa and Sarayu are a faithful portrayal of the One whom English-language
Bibles call "God." By speaking the Scriptures in the language of THE SHACK,
I intend to show that the book's vision of God jives nicely with the Bible's
vision, not to mention the vision of ancient Christianity.
When the early Jesus-followers sat down to write down a summary of the
Bible's message, they produced the ancient ecumenical creeds - documents
that don't have much to say about a faraway solitary [angry] elderly white
dude. Instead, they speak of a man named Jesus, the one he called Father,
and the elusive third one he called Spirit. The creeds speak of a life of
love shared by these three, a life that is transforming the universe by
incarnating itself within it. In other words, when the creeds look at the
Bible, they see what The Shack sees.
I think our culture's way of reading the Bible is skewed. Our unacknowledged
assumptions form a lens which distorts our interpretations of the biblical
text. In The Shack, Paul Young gave us a new lens through which we might see
God more clearly. In The Shack Bible Project, I am trying to read the Bible
afresh through that lens.
As I do that, I am seeing wonderful things that I never saw before. I hope
you will find some benefit from my attempt to put what I see into words.

of Paul Young's The Shack. Its unbiblical portrayal of God may give insights
into Young's own concepts (in his own image), but not of the Almighty God of
