One thing you can say for Jephthah, he was dependable. No matter what he
said, he stuck by it... even when he probably wished he'd kept his mouth
shut. But he stood by his word, always. Those who knew him could count on
him. That quality alone not only made him a good leader, but a good friend.

How many people do you know that you can count on? How many people actually
stick by their word today? Start at the top and work your way down... Take
a look at your country's leaders. How many of them actually keep their
campaign promises once they're actually in office? Look at your
corporations. How many corporate leaders are dealing in totally honesty and
forthrightness? How many of them can be trusted? Look at the news media...
How many of those folks are keeping their oath to present fair, unbiased
journalism to the nation and/or the world? How many husbands and wives
honor their marriage vows? How many people actually stand by their word?

Those are glaring examples of the big, blatant offenses, but let's take a
look at the little ones. How many times have you promised your son you'd
play ball with him after work, but then came in too tired to do it, and
thus, you went back on your word and disappointed him? How many times have
you promised to pray for someone, but never even mentioned his or her name
to God? How many times have you sworn to keep a secret, but just couldn't
wait to call another friend and tell her? How many jobs have you accepted
at church, but never quite got done what was needed? How many committee
meetings have you failed to attend? How many times has your name been
counted among the "no-shows"? How many times have you made a commitment to
Jesus, then fallen down on the job within days, if not hours?

Jesus gave us a living example of how much we can depend on God to do
exactly what He says. We can always count on Him, no matter what. He
expects the same from you and me. If we say we are going to do something.
no matter how small. no matter how trivial. no matter what - God expects us
to stick by it. So take a look at yourself today... who can depend on you?
