Lake Kivu's lethal combination of methane and carbon dioxide has residents
fearing for their lives, but it's also Rwanda's most vital and promising
energy source. The body of water is one of the world's three "exploding
lakes" and is at serious risk of "overturn" -when huge amounts of carbon
dioxide are released from under its surface, suffocating everyone in the
surrounding areas. According to the Great Britain's *Guardian*, Rwandans
are now systematically removing the gases from the lake in order to supply
massive amounts of electricity to the country for the next 100 years. "Some
scientists say that the ever-expanding volumes of carbon dioxide and methane
in Lake Kivu," reports the Guardian, "coupled with the nearby volcanic
activity, make a limnic eruption (also referred to as a lake overturn, in
which CO2 suddenly erupts from the lake) highly likely at some stage in the
future unless degassing occurs. This has now begun with the extraction of
some of the 60bn cubic metres of methane in the water."

Strong earthquakes along the San Andreas fault in southern California are
more frequent than previously thought, so the dreaded "Big One" could be
just around the corner, US researchers said in a study. University of
California at Irvine and Arizona State University scientists examined the
geological record stretching back 700 years along the fault line 160
kilometers (100 miles) northwest of Los Angeles. They found that strong
earthquakes -- between 6.5 and 7.9 magnitude -- shook the area every 45-144
years, instead of the previously established 250-400 years. Since the last
big 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck southern California in 1857, or 153
years ago, scientists believe the next "Big One" could happen at any time.
The scientists on Friday provided an abstract of their study, which will be
published in full in the September 1 issue of the magazine Geology. "What we
know is for the last 700 years, earthquakes on the southern San Andreas
fault have been much more frequent than everyone thought," said the study's
lead author Sinan Akciz. "Data presented here contradict previously
published reports," he added. With 37 million people living in southern
California, chiefly in the cities of Los Angeles, San Diego and Anaheim, a
major earthquake could kill between 2,000 and 50,000 people and cause
billions of dollars in damage, scientists said.

adolescent support of abstinence education is not being released by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), as it does not support the
administration's objective – or that of vocal "safe sex" activists – of
eliminating all abstinence-education funding. The Administration for
Children and Families (ACF), a division of HHS, funded a survey of 1,000
adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 and their parents, in order to
measure parent-adolescent communication and adolescent attitudes toward sex
and abstinence. The American Public Health Association's (APHA) website
reveals the results of the study: "Adjusting for all other factors in the
model, parent and peer factors are more consistently associated with
differences in adolescent attitudes about sex and abstinence than are
measures of adolescent exposure to sex and abstinence topics in a class or
program. Additionally, parent attitudes are more important in influencing
adolescent views than the level of parent communication with their
adolescent."

depend for sustenance, economic growth and stability, and social and quality
of life development. Whether we rely on them for companionship, food,

for their inherent value to our planet, animals play an important role in

study found big temblors on the fault every 88 years, on average. The last
massive earthquake on that part of the fault was in 1857, leading scientists
to warn that another such temblor is likely in Southern California. "The
next earthquake could be sooner than later," said Lisa Grant Ludwig, a UC
Irvine earthquake expert and co-author of the study, which was published
online in the journal Geology. "It was thought that we weren't at risk of
having another large one any time soon. Well, now, it might be ready to
rupture."

If the International Monetary Fund gets its way, the U.S. dollar will be
replaced by the "bancor" as the world's reserve currency. According to a
report published April 13, the IMF would like to adopt a plan of action that
would expand the use of SDRs (Special Drawing Rights) to replace the U.S.
dollar as the storehouse of value and eventually create a global currency
called the "bancor." "Bancor" is the name suggested by John Maynard Keynes,
the British economist who headed the World Banking Commission that created
the IMF during the Breton Woods negotiations, which preceded the United
Nations. The new global currency would be issued by a new global central
bank that would have the authority to levy taxes for various infractions.
The bank would have to be, according to the report writers, "accountable to
member nations, but remain independent." This statement sounds much like the
defenders of the Federal Reserve, which was created by Congress and is
supposed to be accountable to Congress, but refuses to allow Congress to
audit its activities or even to answer congressional questions about to whom
it lends U.S. dollars.

If there is nothing special about being human, there is no essence of our
humanness that we must hold in trust for future generations. That means we
are free to use the new technoscience, as the transhumanists advocate we
should, to alter humans so that they become "post-human," that is, not human
at all as we know it. In other words, there would be many less or perhaps no
ethical barriers to seeking the transhumanists' utopian goal, that humans
will become an obsolete model. This would be achieved through our
redesigning ourselves using technoscience -- or perhaps robots doing so.
Instead of our designing them, they could redesign us! We used to regard
humans as special on the basis that they had a soul, a divine spark, and
animals did not. But, today... unethical interventions that contravene that
dignity, such as designing our children, making a baby from two same-sex
people, creating human-animal hybrids, cloning humans, using human embryos
as a "manufacturing plant" to produce therapeutic agents, euthanasia, and,
with the new neuroscience, perhaps most worrying of all, designing,
controlling or intervening on our minds are in planning.

HONG KONG - Once again, China's most vulnerable citizens - its babies - are
the central figures in a food-safety scandal. Two years ago, milk powder
tainted with the industrial chemical melamine killed six infants and left
300,000 more suffering from kidney stones. Now, some Chinese babies are
growing breasts, and their parents are blaming the Nasdaq-listed company
that produces the baby formula they were drinking.
But tests conducted by the besieged Ministry of Health have exonerated
Synutra International, based in the northern coastal city of Qingdao. No
abnormalities were found in samples of Synutra's milk powder or any other
formula that was tested, the ministry announced on Sunday. Laboratory tests
of 42 Synutra samples found no trace of added hormones that could have led
to the premature development of four infant girls. But this may in fact
increase the parents' anxiety: if this was not caused by tainted milk then
by what?
The health ministry launched the probe after local authorities in the
central province of Hubei reportedly refused parents' demands for an
investigation. Three infant girls in the provincial capital of Wuhan and
another in Beijing developed breasts after allegedly drinking the Synutra
formula. The girls, aged four to 15 months, were found to have levels of the
hormones estradiol and prolactin (which stimulate the production of breast
milk) exceeding that of an average adult woman. Last week, Chinese media
reported that similar cases were also found in other provinces such as
Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Shanxi and Liaoning.
A panel of nine endocrine, pediatric and food-safety experts were assembled
by the ministry at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention to
study the case. The team gathered samples from the markets in Wuhan and
Beijing where the suspect milk powder was purchased and from the homes of
the infant girls. Samples of some other brands were also gathered from the
markets and tested.
From the beginning, Synutra has stoutly defended the integrity of its
products and threatened legal action against the media for false reporting.
"While we offer our sympathy to any families experiencing health challenges,
we firmly believe that our products are not involved in the claims recently
made," Synutra boss Liang Zhang said. "We firmly believe [the tests] will
illustrate our unwavering product quality and commitment to consumer
safety."
But then, it was exposed by Chinese media that the company might have misled
consumers by claiming the milk for making the baby formula in question was
imported from "clean farms in the EU [European Union]". Synutra said the
milk supplier for two of its baby formulas was Fonterra in New Zealand and
the raw material for its third baby formula was from a domestic supplier in
Heilongjiang province.
Fonterra issued a statement saying it was "100% confident" in the quality of
its milk supplies. Since New Zealand has strict laws prohibiting the use of
"hormonal growth promotants" on milking cows, the company said, there is no
way its milk could be responsible for the premature development of infant
girls in China.
Disturbing as it was to contemplate breasts on babies, the greater fear
sparked by this case, on top of many previous food scares, is that there may
be nightmares hidden in China's food chain that no one yet knows about. The
2008 tainted milk powder scandal, in which 22 Chinese dairies were named and
shamed, prompted a raft of new promises and regulations on food safety, but
the unthinkable continues to happen.
A total of 21 dairy officials were convicted for their roles in that
scandal; two of them were put to death last year. Still, melamine-tainted
milk continues to flow across the country. In July, for example, authorities
in northwestern Gansu province seized 76 tons of milk powder that contained
up to 500 times the level of melamine allowed by law. The powder was traced
to a dairy factory in Qinghai province, which borders Gansu.
Tainted milk powder was also discovered this year in northeastern Jilin
province, while dozens of stores in the southwestern province of Guizhou
were found to be selling contaminated milk products.
Melamine is commonly used to make plastics, fertilizers and concrete. When
added to milk or animal feed, its high nitrogen content boosts protein
readings, masking substandard products and endangering public health. The
practice, widespread in China's dairy industry, was supposed to end after
the shock of 2008. But dairy farmers keep using melamine for one simple
reason: it boosts their profits as well as the perceived protein levels of
their milk, and regulation remains spotty.
Indeed, some of the same tainted milk powder that was supposed to be
destroyed after the horrific revelations of two years ago was reportedly
repackaged and sold again to consumers who had been led to believe that a
new and more reliable quality-control regime had kicked in.
Against this dark background, some Chinese babies were now growing breasts
and, although their condition had nothing to do with melamine, it seems
almost inevitable that traumatized parents would seek to blame the baby
formula. Memories of 2008 are still burning hot, fueled by continuing
revelations about tainted dairy products and typical stonewalling by
provincial bureaucrats whose first instinct is to cover up rather than probe
any potential scandal. Also in recent memory, 13 babies died in 2004 after
drinking a steady diet of formula that had little nutritional value.
But the four cases of premature puberty had the makings of a false alarm
from the start. The cause of premature development is not always clear. The
condition has been linked to brain disorders or injuries; diet is considered
an unlikely cause.
As it turned out, the health ministry's tests vindicated Synutra, whose
shares have fallen 35% since the story broke, and it appears that the
parents of the infant girls jumped to a false conclusion rooted in past
scandals.
China's food regulators can breathe a sigh of relief, but that hardly puts
them in the clear. The parents' fears were real, and they are widespread.
Rocked by scandal two years ago and buffeted by additional revelations since
then, the country's food-safety chain cannot be trusted. No one knows where
the next horror may be lurking - and that's the scariest part for consumers
already caught up in a frightening story.

It sounds like a Hollywood movie: cybercriminals in a van use a laptop to
hack wirelessly into the computer-controlled systems of the car on the road
ahead. In seconds the target car's engine, brakes, and door locks are under
their nefarious control.
Texas cops say a man hacked into GPS systems and disabled more than 100
cars.
It doesn't take a great script writer to figure out what's next – except
that it's not the movies anymore. It's real – well, almost.
Hackers aren't taking over our cars just yet, but without tighter computer
security they be able to before too long, research conducted by scientists
at four universities indicates.
For example, scientists hacked into a car's computer system by commandeering
the wireless tire-pressure monitoring signal of a target vehicle – all while
driving at more than 60 miles per hour, according to a joint study released
Thursday by Rutgers University and the University of South Carolina.
The new study, along with a similar one from May, suggests looming dangers:
People within a vehicle could be tracked using the wireless signals, and
they could potentially could be harmed if malevolent hackers learn to
exploit or invade a vehicle's control systems from a distance.
"Our research shows that there are multiple risks," says Marco Gruteser,
associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rutgers
University. "Privacy is a problem since every car has these unique
fingerprints from tire pressure, and that makes it possible to track
movements. But this vulnerability can lead to something more serious."
Hacking a car's wireless systems
The wireless hacking was done by taking advantage of the sensors inside each
tire that broadcast a brief radio signal every 60 to 90 seconds. The signal
tells one of the car's computer systems the pressure of each. But
researchers found that even those weak signals could be intercepted up to
120 feet away and hacked from a roadside location – or by a car in traffic.
Traveling in tandem with the target car, the researchers sent false
low-air-pressure warnings to the car's dashboard display and eventually
wrecked the internal computer.

Researcher: Attacker Could Access Vehicular Networks
If sending a spurious "low pressure" messages doesn't sound exactly like
Mission Impossible, the work of other researchers yielded potentially
more-serious vulnerabilities. In May, a team of researchers reported that
they succeeded in hacking into the onboard computer networks that controlled
the engine, brakes, and door locks, among other systems. This latter study
was done physically – not wirelessly – by connecting into a vehicle's
computers.
Vehicle manufacturers and third-party systems are increasingly using
wireless networks as a cheaper means for connecting to Electronic Control
Units (ECUs) – the computer brains behind braking, engine, and locking
mechanisms along with other systems. A typical luxury sedan today may use
more than 100 megabytes of computer code spread across 50 to 70 ECUs,
researchers say.
Audio systems, for instance, are often attached to internal computer
networks along with other wireless devices like remote keyless entry systems
and the tire-pressure monitors. Other "telematics systems" that can control
a car's ignition system and provide crash response or even turn off the fuel
if a car is stolen are also wireless.
"Overall, these trends suggest that a wide range of vectors will be
available by which an attacker might compromise a component and gain access
to internal vehicular networks with unknown consequences," University of
Washington and University of San Diego scientists wrote in their May study.
CarShark
Using homemade hacking software they dubbed "CarShark," the Washington-San
Diego researchers in lab and road tests "demonstrate the ability to
adversarially control a wide range of automotive functions and completely
ignore driver input – including disabling the brakes, selectively braking
individual wheels on demand, stopping the engine, and so on," the
researchers wrote.
Tire-pressure monitor systems like the ones exploited by the Rutgers-South
Carolina team are destined to be the first widely deployed wireless system
in US cars since the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration
in 2008 mandated that all new cars sold or manufactured after 2008 be
equipped with direct tire pressure monitoring systems.
But they won't be the last. That's what has Dr. Gruteser concerned. What's
needed, he and others say, is for tire-pressure monitoring and other
networks to have good encryption on them – which they don't right now – and
much more robust security overall.
Hacking into a vehicle's central computer wirelessly via the tire-pressure
monitor system and taking control "is something we're not able to do right
now," Gruteser says. "But we can't rule out that it's possible. Our goal is
to raise awareness for consumers before this becomes an actual risk.
Hopefully, they will then request from car companies more secure devices."

The news of Intel's very expensive McAfee purchase raises one obvious
question: why is security software worth over $7 billion to a chip maker?
Intel has been short on specifics, but it's becoming clear that
virus-killing silicon is coming.
Computer security with hardware roots isn't new for Intel, but it's stuck in
last-gen tech that can't stop your system from getting smoked. Feature sets
that can help filter out malicious network traffic or let CPUs screen for
certain worms have been safeguarding computers you've already thrown away by
now. But they're limited. Right now, most of the anti-malware grunt work is
being handled by software. Letting applications do the heavy lifting is a
resource-heavy affair, which makes chipmakers like Intel nervous when they
look forward and see the future of computing floating in the cloud.
The problem with security in the cloud is twofold. To begin with, netbooks
and tablets usually just don't have the muscle to balance intensive malware
efforts. Do you think your anemic netbook can root out marauding trojans,
scanning hundreds of thousands of files, as well as your desktop? But what
about just putting the security software in the cloud too? This leads to a
second objection: do we really want our sensitive stuff floating out of our
devices? Will people feel comfortable having their secrets scanned remotely?
Intel doesn't think so—and says it has a solution.
When we interviewed Intel's head tech honcho, CTO Justin Rattner in June, he
had much to say about the intersection of cloud computing and secure
computing. And the future of beating viruses, according to Intel, lies in
the chips that drive our devices, not some program running in the
background. "As silicon developers," Rattner explained, "we have a
requirement to provide truly secure capability when it's needed." This means
malware-fighting hardware is a new mandate. Rattner asserts that their
hardware ambitions are to "protect those systems from the various forms of
malware and then, in addition, giving them the ability to keep their secrets
no matter what happens." Which sounds a little abstract, right? But put it
in context: Rattner's plan sounds pretty real as of right now.
While discussing the news of their acquisition today, Intel minced no words
about where their pricey new subsidiary will take them. McAfee technology
will be put on Intel silicon. Virus scanning, trojan hunting, buffer
overflow-blocking—all beat back before it has a chance to touch your
software. McAfee's line of applications will continue to sell as is, but
Intel simply doesn't believe that the future of computer security can be
done with software alone. Malware keeps getting meaner. To block viruses,
you need to hit them as soon as possible, which means as deep into the
hardware as possible. Think of it as the difference between swatting flies
in your kitchen and just keeping your windows closed in the first place.
Intel's processors won't change for now, but when we asked them about the
deal's implications for architecture changes down the line, they confirmed
that the era of an antivirus-on-a-chip lies ahead—with a mysterious new
hardware product slated for 2011. Thanks to Moore's Law, Intel will have
more real estate to fill with security mechanisms—courtesy of McAfee's R&D
labs. Whether secure silicon takes the form of hardware acceleration for
virus-sniffing heuristics, or something else entirely, remains to be seen.
But if Intel makes good on its promises (and on the nearly $8 billion it
forked over), that folder of photos you regret will stay safe without having
to climb to the cloud.

The firm has developed genetically engineered salmon that reach market
weight in half the usual time. What's more, it hopes to avoid the pollution,
disease and other problems associated with saltwater fish farms by having
its salmon
raised in inland facilities.
The Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve what would be the
nation's first commercial genetically modified food animal.
"This is the threshold case. If it's approved, there will be others," said
Eric Hallerman, head of the fisheries and wildlife sciences department at
Virginia Tech University.
"If it's not, it'll have a chilling effect for years."
Some in the fish farming industry are leery of the move toward engineered
fish.
"No! It is not even up for discussion," Jorgen Christiansen, director of
communications for Oslo-based Marine Harvest, one of the world's largest
salmon producers, wrote in an e-mail.

Dramatic increases in infant mortality, cancer and leukaemia in the Iraqi
city of Fallujah, which was bombarded by US Marines in 2004, exceed those
reported by survivors of the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki in 1945, according to a new study.
Iraqi doctors in Fallujah have complained since 2005 of being overwhelmed by
the number of babies with serious birth defects, ranging from a girl born
with two heads to paralysis of the lower limbs. They said they were also
seeing far more cancers than they did before the battle for Fallujah between
US troops and insurgents.
Their claims have been supported by a survey showing a four-fold increase in
all cancers and a 12-fold increase in childhood cancer in under-14s. Infant
mortality in the city is more than four times higher than in neighbouring
Jordan and eight times higher than in Kuwait.
Dr Chris Busby, a visiting professor at the University of Ulster and one of
the authors of the survey of 4,800 individuals in Fallujah, said it is
difficult to pin down the exact cause of the cancers and birth defects. He
added that "to produce an effect like this, some very major mutagenic
exposure must have occurred in 2004 when the attacks happened".
US Marines first besieged and bombarded Fallujah, 30 miles west of Baghdad,
in April 2004 after four employees of the American security company
Blackwater were killed and their bodies burned. After an eight-month
stand-off, the Marines stormed the city in November using artillery and
aerial bombing against rebel positions. US forces later admitted that they
had employed white phosphorus as well as other munitions.
In the assault US commanders largely treated Fallujah as a free-fire zone to
try to reduce casualties among their own troops. British officers were
appalled by the lack of concern for civilian casualties. "During preparatory
operations in the November 2004 Fallujah clearance operation, on one night
over 40 155mm artillery rounds were fired into a small sector of the city,"
recalled Brigadier Nigel Aylwin-Foster, a British commander serving with the
American forces in Baghdad.
He added that the US commander who ordered this devastating use of firepower
did not consider it significant enough to mention it in his daily report to
the US general in command. Dr Busby says that while he cannot identify the
type of armaments used by the Marines, the extent of genetic damage suffered
by inhabitants suggests the use of uranium in some form. He said: "My guess
is that they used a new weapon against buildings to break through walls and
kill those inside."
The survey was carried out by a team of 11 researchers in January and
February this year who visited 711 houses in Fallujah. A questionnaire was
filled in by householders giving details of cancers, birth outcomes and
infant mortality. Hitherto the Iraqi government has been loath to respond to
complaints from civilians about damage to their health during military
operations.
Researchers were initially regarded with some suspicion by locals,
particularly after a Baghdad television station broadcast a report saying a
survey was being carried out by terrorists and anybody conducting it or
answering questions would be arrested. Those organising the survey
subsequently arranged to be accompanied by a person of standing in the
community to allay suspicions.
The study, entitled "Cancer, Infant Mortality and Birth Sex-Ratio in
Fallujah, Iraq 2005-2009", is by Dr Busby, Malak Hamdan and Entesar Ariabi,
and concludes that anecdotal evidence of a sharp rise in cancer and
congenital birth defects is correct. Infant mortality was found to be 80 per
1,000 births compared to 19 in Egypt, 17 in Jordan and 9.7 in Kuwait. The
report says that the types of cancer are "similar to that in the Hiroshima
survivors who were exposed to ionising radiation from the bomb and uranium
in the fallout".
Researchers found a 38-fold increase in leukaemia, a ten-fold increase in
female breast cancer and significant increases in lymphoma and brain tumours
in adults. At Hiroshima survivors showed a 17-fold increase in leukaemia,
but in Fallujah Dr Busby says what is striking is not only the greater
prevalence of cancer but the speed with which it was affecting people.
Of particular significance was the finding that the sex ratio between
newborn boys and girls had changed. In a normal population this is 1,050
boys born to 1,000 girls, but for those born from 2005 there was an 18 per
cent drop in male births, so the ratio was 850 males to 1,000 females. The
sex-ratio is an indicator of genetic damage that affects boys more than
girls. A similar change in the sex-ratio was discovered after Hiroshima.
The US cut back on its use of firepower in Iraq from 2007 because of the
anger it provoked among civilians. But at the same time there has been a
decline in healthcare and sanitary conditions in Iraq since 2003. The impact
of war on civilians was more severe in Fallujah than anywhere else in Iraq
because the city continued to be blockaded and cut off from the rest of the
country long after 2004. War damage was only slowly repaired and people from
the city were frightened to go to hospitals in Baghdad because of military
checkpoints on the road into the capital.

Jihadists take the bait, threaten Florida church with suicide bombings
"International Burn a Koran Day" does a grave disservice to the cause of
spreading awareness about Islamic teachings and the threat that Sharia poses
to our way of life. It is a gift to Islamic groups who would so dearly love
to portray all of us who criticize and question Islamic teachings (and
triumphalist mosques) as frothing reactionaries.
Of all imagery to appropriate from the past century, that of book-burning is
utterly disastrous, inviting comparisons with the Nazis' famous roundup of
banned books, and creating an opening for Heinrich Heine's famous response:
"Where one burns books, one will soon burn people."
The most substantive means of framing the conflict between Western values
and Islamic law are productive, not destructive: Artwork, satire, commentary
and criticism, to name a few.
Awareness is a mightier weapon than a bonfire.
As such, it would be better to read aloud from the Qur'an for all to hear of
its hatred and subjugation of non-believers, the second-class status of
women, cruel and unusual punishments, and open-ended calls to warfare in
order to impose Islamic law.
Nonetheless, while Islamic advocacy groups are likely squealing with glee at
such a free shot at playing the victim, at least one set of jihadists
couldn't contain themselves: "Islamic Radicals Threaten Suicide Bombings
Against Gainesville Church," by Adam Kirk for WOKV, August 23:
[...] One jihadist website vowed to conduct suicide bombings in Florida
to avenge the Koran burning, while others predicted an increase in terrorist
recruits as a result of such actions.
"By Allah, the wars are heated and you Americans are the ones

NEW YORK, New York — In a series of events which has caused wide notice and
a storm of protests, the government of Mexico, through its consulate in New
York in the United Nations, has announced it will begin patrolling the New
York City borough of Staten Island to "safeguard" its nationals there.
The actions of Mexico come after a series of incidents the Mexican
government terms "bias attacks."
Ironically, these so-called "hate crimes" have been perpetrated by blacks
and Asians, indicative of rising tensions between various ethnic groups in
the U.S. The Catholic Examiner and NBC New York both reported the Mexican
government's intention to mount surveillance, patrol and police in and
around the Staten Island community of Port Richmond, which in recent years
has seen a large influx of Mexican illegal immigrants.
Since the Examiner's coverage, however, councilor officials, city hall and
the local press have begun to carefully de-emphasize any possible role of
Mexican law enforcement or military in efforts to secure the neighborhood.

Mexican officials have set up a neighborhood office and a local phone hot
line for their nationals to report "bias incidents"—regardless as to whether
they are in the United States legally.
New York City police had been monitoring the situation and investigating the
reported assaults as local crimes. The actions of the Mexican government
have caused Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to
order what many observers say is the most concentrated police mobilization
since the World Trade Center disaster.
The main street of Port Richmond was swiftly transformed into what the New
York Times described as a war zone like atmosphere with over 120 newly
assigned officers, high-intensity night lighting, two huge "sky tower"
police observation posts, frequent helicopter overflights and 20 police cars
to watch the center of the relatively small neighborhood. Several long-term
residents described it as a constant hornet's nest of activity.
Both published reports and residents say that reports of fights between
Mexicans and other groups began years ago, in the late 1990s or early 2000s.
Many charge the present round of incidents started in 2003 with one loss of
life in 2006, which might not even be connected to the present series of
events.
At a major community gathering held at the historic St. Phillips Baptist
Church, speakers addressed the current situation in the neighborhood and the
borough, while Mexican councilor officials looked on.
But while the Richmond anti-violence organization and assorted left-leaning
journalists who attended may have been expecting a mea culpa from local
residents, what they got instead was a blast of community push-back. Speaker
after speaker from the black community told of horrendous conditions the
largely illegal immigrants had brought to their community. Speakers
described the pattern in communities affected by an influx of illegals.
Community residents, many of whom are black first-time homeowners, told of
constant disputes, alcohol and drug sales, late night disruptions,
trespassing and public urination.
Others in the audience, who declined to testify, spoke of men wearing
clothes bearing symbols of La Raza, Aztlan and other militant pro-Mexican
groups.
They also spoke of repeated attempts to summon the state liquor authority's
enforcement agency to deal with the surging illegal liquor sales in the
area, with little in the way of a response .

self-government and federalism, and ... because the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of the Child undermines traditional principles of
law in the United States regarding parents and children'."
The American traditional family structure is solidly based upon a Biblical
foundation. Parents have always been given wide latitude to decide what is
best for their children as they raise them to adulthood. For better or for
worse, parents have been given responsibility to raise their children
according to the values they want them to have when they grow up. Until
World War I, the values predominately were Christian values, even from
parents who were not themselves Born Again; however, since then, the
predominate Christian values have been shifting more and more to
anti-christian values.
Still, however, the American system recognizes the right of the parent to
raise their children with a wide latitude.
The Russian Communist system realized that the parental attitudes and values
were so powerful as to throw a huge obstacle to the government system of
molding the minds of the children into the atheistic Communist model.
Russian Premier, Nikita Khrushchev, was asked one day why the Russian
government was having trouble inculcating the Communist philosophy into
young children. Khrushchev replied that the problem was being caused by the
"grandmother factor", which he explained:
"While the kids were properly trained in a Communist school all during the
day, they would go home and at some point in the evening, would sit on
grandma's lap and talk with her. She would tell the children of the "old
days" and of the "old values", i.e., Christian values."
Thus, grandma would undo or de-propagandize, the children!
As we are heading into the New World Order, the world body has come to grips
with ways in which to reach into the homes in the evening and on weekends,
to prevent parents and grandparents from undoing the propaganda which kids
are learning today in public school.
The answer the United Nations has created in the "Rights of the Child".
Among other things, the U.N. has created the "right" of children to not be
subjected to Christian values. The U.N. proposes laws which would prevent
parents from teaching Christian values within the home, on the pain of
taking the children out of the home.
Just consider some of the provisions of this U.N. treaty:
* "In the United Kingdom, the CRC already has been used to assert that
authorities have complete access to the homes – at any time – of students
who are homeschooled. "
* "Children would have the ability to choose their own religion while
parents would only have the authority to give their children advice about
religion."
* "The best interest of the child principle would give the government the
ability to override every decision made by every parent if a government
worker disagreed with the parent's decision."
* "A child's "right to be heard" would allow him (or her) to seek
governmental review of every parental decision with which the child
disagreed."
Children will be told by public school authorities what "rights" they have
under this law, and will be encouraged to report their parents to
authorities if they break any of these U.N. "rights". And, children will
take this action rather than be punished, for as the Bible states, all
punishment at the time is grievous.
Several years ago, one of my grandsons was in Pre-School and he told his
parents that they had no right to spank him, that such spanking was against
the law. He threatened to tell his teacher if he was spanked!
This is the hideous face of this United Nations "Rights of the Child"
treaty. We must oppose it vehemently as long as we are able to express our
outrage to our government!

Will anything come from these negotiations? The answer to this question
depends upon whether the Illuminati Plan calls for success or failure once
again. At one point in history, the Illuminati will bring the Palestinian
State issue to the point where such a state will be announced.
In fact, prophetic Scripture says that a real Palestinian State will never
occur; the only event which shall happen is that it will be announced.

never-ending parade of rising expectations knocked down by bitter failure.

In other words, the Irish Catholic Church still is being protected by an
informal and invisible force, which is in place because too many citizens
still regard the Church as being worthy of such protection.

Some priests in America are already doing jail time, but the number is
miniscule compared to the number who should be behind bars.

against children, public access to all church records on predator priests is
necessary'."
People should start thinking of Catholic priests as being sexual predators.
When 75% of men attending Catholic seminaries are openly gay, as Bill
Schnoebelen reports in the DVD shown above, "Catholicism: A Church On
Haunted Hill", then you have the distinct possibility that the percentage of
predatory priests might reach toward that number as well.
Lawsuits are popping up all across the globe, but especially in America. If
lawsuits start appearing in the International Court, the Pope might be
brought to justice. While such an action will strengthen the World Court --
to which I have always been opposed -- it might be the only way to bring the
force of law right to the doorstep of the Vatican.
