*Gesture-Based Computing Takes A Serious
Turn*<http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20727735.400-gesturebased-computing-takes-a-serious-turn.html>
Call me a creature of habit, but I approach any new computer interface with
a sense of apprehension. I'm downright inept when it comes to playing video
games on the Nintendo Wii: the wand controller is just too foreign to my
mouse and keyboard-entrained muscles. I feel that familiar sense of unease
as I stand in a nondescript brick warehouse in downtown Los Angeles. I am at
the headquarters of Oblong Industries, developers of the G-Speak gestural
computing interface, and I'm about to trial its system for controlling
computers through hand gestures. I find myself surrounded by a cage of metal
scaffolding, which houses the system's 16 near-infrared motion detectors, as
John Underkoffler, Oblong's chief scientist, boots up the system. I'm amidst
three large screens, and above me three projectors beam images onto them. A
fourth overhead projector, pointing onto a white table, serves as a fourth
screen. Underkoffler insists that the G-Speak is targeting hardcore
number-crunchers, not gamers, but the rig looks like it would be more at
home in a rock club than an office.

*Silk 'Invisibility Cloak' Created By
Scientists*<http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/7941236/Silk-invisibility-cloak-created-by-scientists.html>
At the moment the cloak only works for light outside the visible spectrum,
in the terahertz band between radio and infrared. But its developers, at
Boston University and Tufts University, believe that it could be made to
work at far smaller wavelengths, possibly even including visible light,
according to Discovery News. The researchers hope it will have applications
in medical science, as well as opening the possibility of making people or
objects invisible. The "metamaterial" is made of silk covered in tiny gold
structures, each a tiny spiral known as a "split ring resonator" or SSR.
SSRs have fascinating effects on light - they can absorb, or reflect, all
the light at a given wavelength, or bend that light around an object. The
silk metamaterial has 10,000 SSRs per square centimetre. Normally, terahertz
waves would pass through silk unaffected. But the new meta-silk resonated
when the light struck it. Since silk is "biocompatible" - it doesn't spark
an immune reaction when implanted in the human body - the meta-silk can be
used widely in medicine. Fiorenzo Omenetto, one of the Tufts researchers,
told Discovery: "This is an unusual angle for a metamaterial because of
silk's ability to interface with the human body."

*The BP Cover-Up*<http://motherjones.com/environment/2010/09/bp-ocean-cover-up>
Though it won't be understood for weeks, the Deepwater Horizon is different
from any other spill in human history. The extreme technology used to drill
at unprecedented depths lacks the extreme safety equipment and protocols
needed to stave off disaster. BP, gambling at the border of controllable
engineering, has lost spectacularly in its bid to be the deepest and
cheapest driller of them all. And no one is ready for it. Not the Minerals
Management Service, catering submissively to BP's laughable Gulf oil-spill
"plan," a document featuring wildly inaccurate wildlife assessments
(including walruses and other species nonexistent in the Gulf) and an
on-call expert who's been dead for years. Not the scientists whose research
is paid for by the oil cowboys. Not the environmental groups, who did not
foresee the stupendous potential for cataclysm on oil's farthest frontier.
Not the media, who almost entirely ignored the sneak preview offered last
year by the blowout of the West Atlas rig drilling in the Timor Sea off
Australia—a disaster that required five attempts at a relief well and 74
days to stanch.

President Barack Obama on Wednesday offered best wishes to Muslims in the
United States and around the world as they observe the holy fasting month of
Ramadan. "All of us must remember that the world we want to build -- and the
changes that we want to make -- must begin in our own hearts, and our own
communities," Obama said in a statement released by the White House. US
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also issued a statement offering the
traditional holiday greeting: "Ramadan Kareem." "Ramadan is a time for
self-reflection and sharing. American Muslims make valuable contributions to
our country every day and millions will honor this month with acts of
service and giving back to their communities," she said. Both Clinton and
Obama were set to host Iftar, the meal that breaks the daily fast. Clinton
was co-hosting an event with dozens of embassies in the US capital, while
Obama was to receive guests for the meal at the White House. Obama said the
rituals of Ramadan "remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and
Islam's role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of
all human beings."

*Solar Cycle Raises Concerns Over Geomagnetic
Storms*<http://insurancenewsnet.com/article.aspx?id=214760&type=newswires>
Imagine a blackout that plunges entire regions into darkness and cripples
the flow of power for days and weeks on end, if not months. Now drill deeper
and contemplate the nearly immediate and prolonged loss of potable water for
city populations, the subsequent risk to perishable food supplies and the
challenges for hospitals, sewer plants and other infrastructure. In the eyes
of those who monitor solar storm activity and space weather, such a premise
may not be limited to Hollywood disaster flicks. Eruptions from the sun's
surface yield electromagnetic currents that can penetrate the Earth's
atmosphere. The potential for a geomagnetic storm to wreak havoc on
industry, particularly in the delivery of bulk power, has some risk experts
looking to the stars. "We're talking about something here that would put at
risk millions of lives, and would probably cost in the neighborhood of
several trillions dollars per year in impacts to the economy," said John
Kappenman, a consultant for Metatech Corp., a Los Angeles-area company whose
scientists and engineers monitor explosive bursts from the sun's energy
field. The company also provides customized analysis of government-generated
space weather forecasts for its clients.

*U.S. Is Warned Of Threat Worse Than Katrina, Plague, WWII, Millions Could
Die <http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=190721>*
More horrifying than the plague of Black Death across Europe. More costly in
lives than World War II. Financially it could make the Katrina repairs look
like a pocketful of change. And it's not a matter of if, but when. That's
the alarming warning being issued by John G. Kappenman, owner of Storm
Analysis Consultants and an expert of the dangers of electromagnetic pulse
damage to modern society, with a list of qualifications after his name as
long as a phone book. The issue of EMP dangers to the Earth, either from a
CME, a coronal mass ejection, which basically is an eruption of power from
the sun, or from a nuclear-triggered EMP wave that truly is intended to
destroy a society, have been the subject of multiple reports in recent
months. WND reported just days ago that the U.S. House had authorized plans
to defend America's power grid against such dangers, but the members of the
Senate left citizens to fend for themselves, eliminating the contingency
plans. Kappenman was interviewed recently on the radio program called
OffTheGridNews, and explained that never before has civilization endured
what could be coming, because historic storms hit before people were so
dependant on electricity and all that it does, from turning on a cell phone
to powering the pumps fueling the transportation system to keeping food from
spoiling.

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
On this week's edition of "The Hal Lindsey Report": Once again, the
administration is practicing some sleight of hand. While making sure
Americans know that they're taking care of Israel by selling them $2 billion
worth of aviation fuel and diesel fuel (but still withholding many of the
requests granted by the Bush administration), they're not making such a big
deal of the fact that we're filling $23 billion in procurement requests to
Turkey and other Arab nations and selling $30 billion in advanced fighter
jets to Saudi Arabia. That's a 25 to 1 ratio.

Remember what I've been emphasizing the last few weeks? It's not important
what they say. It's important what they do.

If the President wants to be so inclusive of the Arab Muslim nations, then
why doesn't he listen to everything they say? Most of them are desperate for
someone to neutralize Iran. So desperate, in fact, that Saudi Arabia is
actively helping Israel prepare for a strike on the Iranian nuclear
facilities. Though the Saudis deny it publicly, they've made forward bases
accessible to the Israelis and intelligence reports say they're going to
allow them an air corridor over Saudi territory.

The United Arab Emirates ambassador to the United States has made a flat-out
public statement. He told the media that "a military attack on Iran by
whomever would be a disaster, but Iran with a nuclear weapon would be a
bigger disaster." He said that an attack would spark street protests by
Muslims throughout the region, but that leaders like himself would be
willing to deal with that in exchange for eliminating the Iranian threat.
Can you say it any more plainly?

Nine years on, German authorities have finally had enough. This week,
Hamburg's interior ministry seized and closed the mosque where Mohammed Atta
recruited two of the 9/11 hijackers. Under constant scrutiny since the
authorities made the 9/11 connection, the Taiba Mosque in Hamburg has
remained "a center of attraction for the jihad scene." That's the conclusion
of a 2009 report by Germany's internal security services. But when the
Germans discovered that 11 home-grown members of the mosque had trained as
terrorists and two were jailed for planning an attack in Germany, they
decided to act.

We're acting in America, too, but we're going in the other direction. Our
authorities are falling all over themselves to open new mosques!

Remember the 1968 Mel Brooks comedy classic, "The Producers?" By staging a
terrible production of the most offensive Broadway musical they could
imagine, a travesty called "Springtime for Hitler," the shady producers
figured the abomination would close before the curtain fell on opening
night. They would then pocket all of the investment money raised when they
oversold shares in the show. The plan backfired. The show was so odious, the
crowd loved it and the producers had a "hit" on their hands. They were on
the hook for all the money they had raised and spent, and the show could
never hope to earn enough to pay everyone back. That's an absurd plot,
indeed. But, then, it's a comedy movie and a zany Mel Brooks comedy at that.

But today there's a plot unfolding in Manhattan that is even zanier than
"The Producers." It's called, "The Cordoba Initiative." You've been hearing
dribs and drabs about it because the mainstream media has been doing its
best to keep it under wraps. They knew that once the word got out, most
normal Americans ("unsophisticated wackos" in liberal-speak) would oppose
it. And they were right.

The plan is to build a 13-story Muslim mosque and cultural center literally
only a few hundred feet from Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. The plan has
cleared all the hurdles with the New York City government, mostly because
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been obsessively promoting it and pushing it.

The leader of the project, Imam Abdul Rauf, says that the mosque is intended
as a gesture to build "bridges between faiths." Another proponent claims
that the mosque, which will occupy the site of a 152-year old building that
suffered damage in the 9/11 attack, is really a "celebration of America's
religious tolerance." I'm an old tugboat captain and I have to be careful
how I react when I hear (stuff) like that!

Why would a religion founded on fealty to one law, one leader, and one god
-- a religion whose modern defining characteristic is its intolerance of all
other faiths and traditions -- actually "celebrate" America's religious
diversity. That's the very thing Islam HATES about us. How could a religion
that reduces women and girls to mere chattel and considers all non-Muslims
to be second-class citizens conceivably "celebrate" a non-Muslim society
that believes all humans are created equal in God's sight? It's laughable.
Yet our leaders and the media-types have fallen for it hook, line, and
sinker.

Are they that stupid or have they been intimidated into acquiescence? New
York City already has more than 100 mosques. We've already proven that we
really are an open, tolerant society. To say with a straight face that this
is Islam's celebration of America's religious tolerance would be like the
Southern Baptists building a church in Amsterdam's infamous Red Light
District to "celebrate" Holland's sexual promiscuity. It doesn't make sense
because it doesn't make sense.

I'll tell you why the Muslims insist on putting a 13-story mega-mosque
(which, by the way, will eerily resemble a World Trade Center tower) within
earshot of Ground Zero. It will be nothing less than a traditional act of
Islamic triumphalism. It's a symbol of conquest.

Although the Muslims have changed the name of the proposed structure to
"Park 51 Mosque," the campaign to build it is still called "The Cordoba
Initiative." On this week's program, I'm going to share with you a short
history lesson about the symbolism of "Cordoba" in the Islamic mind. And
trust me, the Muslims are big on symbolism.

Don't miss this week's Report on TBN, Daystar, Inspiration, CPM Network,
various local stations, www.hallindsey.com or www.hischannel.com.

God Bless,

Hal Lindsey
