Act 27 describes Paul's journey to Rome. During this time Paul was a
prisoner sailing on a ship to Rome. The Lord provided a kind person
named Julius who made it possible for Paul to see his friends. The
Lord also made sure that Paul was comforted and strengthen for the
dark times, which where ahead. He always makes sure that you connect
with the right people at the right time.
It is written that they could not hold course due to strong winds and
progress was difficult. This was the conditions prior to the storm,
the warning signs before the storm. In life we are driven off course,
we at times cannot hold course and might find ourselves drifting in an
opposite direction. This is not part of our plan but it forces us to
re-think our original plan, re-group and re-strategise. We found
ourselves off course and delayed. Paul who was spirit- filled
received a revelation and warned the crew that the voyage will
endanger the ship and the crew. Revelations are given to us for a
reason, it sometimes warns us of the danger ahead and it allows us to
avoid it if we listen. However like Paul like ourselves are not always
in control and others do not always listen to us. We as Christians
might find ourselves challenged.
The storm increased. The ship was driven by wind whilst one anchor was
dropped but it did not find any stronghold. The situation seems
hopeless with two weeks of darkness all around them. They did not eat
for two weeks and threw most of their cargo overboard. We need to take
stock of what is really important, whilst we're in the storm and throw
all excess baggage overboard, get rid of some things and do spring-
cleaning. This is stripping yourself to nakedness where Jesus can work
with you.
When all things seem lost the Lord for a second time revealed to Paul
that the men should take courage and that their lives will be spared.
There are however two conditions in order for them to survive.
Condition one - do not leave the ship because the Lord will provide an
Island. Condition two- eat because you would need the strength to
survive. The Lord provided clear conditions as well as four anchors,
which helped to save their lives.
Prayer: Lord allows us to be receptive to revelation and provision
during our storm. We thank you for providing us with guidance and
anchors. Strengthen our faith and obedience during stormy times. Amen.
