Next week's election for new members of the U.N. Human Rights Council is
expected to result in a greater share of seats going to the Organization of
the Islamic Conference (OIC) than ever before, while the number of countries
deemed "free" falls to a new low. Barring any surprises, the Islamic bloc
will emerge from the May 13 election in control of 18 of the total 47 seats,
the highest number since the Geneva-based body was formed in 2006 as part of
a broader initiative aimed at reforming the U.N. Surprises are unlikely,
since the five U.N. regional groups all have closed slates of candidates,
meaning that with one week to go, there is no competition. Not only will the
OIC have more seats than ever before (the previous record was 16) but less
than half of the council's members will be "free" countries, as defined by
the democracy watchdog Freedom House.

Senator Scott Brown tomorrow is signing on to legislation that would strip
naturalized Americans of their citizenship if they are found to have aided a
foreign terrorist organization. Brown is joining three other lawmakers in
filing the legislation, which comes after Faisal Shehzad was accused of a
plot to detonate a car bomb in Times Square on Saturday. Because the
Pakistani-born Shehzad is a naturalized American citizen, he was read his
Miranda rights and will be tried in a civilian court, rather than before a
military tribunal. The legislation is likely to trigger debate over what
rights American citizens should be afforded if they are involved in acts of
terrorism. Senator John McCain has called it a mistake to have read Shehzad
his Miranda rights, while Fox News commentator Glenn Beck said, "He has all
the rights under the Constitution. We don't shred the Constitution when it's
popular." The others sponsoring the bill are Senator Joseph Lieberman, a
Connecticut Independent; Representative Jason Altmire, a Democrat of
Pennsylvania; and Representative Charlie Dent, a Republican of Pennsylvania.
The four will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce the legislation,
called the Terrorist Expatriation Act.

For many years, analysts have been arguing for the necessity to keep weapons
out of Earth's orbit. However, in more recent times, talks of a weapons race
in space have been multiplying, mostly due to the tests that the United
States have conducted recently. The US Air Force (USAF) launched its X-37B
robotic space plane in April, while the US Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA) conducted a failed test of its HTV-2 hypersonic
glider aircraft prototype. Both machines raise serious concerns about the
possibility of weapons of mass destruction making their way into space. A
factor that contributes to the controversy is the still-unclear purpose of
these missions. American officials from both the Pentagon and the USAF have
failed to provide transparent motivations for why they conducted the recent
test flights, and so the area is opened for speculations. But the truth is
that the new technologies that were demonstrated this year make taking
weapons in low-Earth orbit (LEO) a very attainable goal, and one that is
only a few years away. If the United States get this capability, then the

"A Christian street preacher was arrested and locked in a cell for telling a
passer-by that homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God. Dale McAlpine was
charged with causing "harassment, alarm or distress" after a homosexual
police community support officer (PCSO) overheard him reciting a number of
"sins" referred to in the Bible, including blasphemy, drunkenness and same
sex relationships. "

"The 42-year-old Baptist, who has preached Christianity in Workington,
Cumbria for years, said he did not mention homosexuality while delivering a
sermon from the top of a stepladder, but admitted telling a passing shopper
that he believed it went against the word of God. Police officers are
alleging that he made the remark in a voice loud enough to be overheard by
others and have charged him with using abusive or insulting language,
contrary to the Public Order Act."

The street preacher was interrogated in jail before being released under a
gag order prohibiting him from preaching against homosexuality in public.
The news story did not report whether this street preacher intends to obey,
or whether he will go right back preaching, in the attitude of the early
Apostles who were arrested by the Sanhedrin, hauled before that kangeroo
court and then told not to preach any more about that Jesus. What did they
do?

They went out praising God that they were counted worthy enough to be
persecuted for Jesus' sake and they certainly continued to preach the
Gospel. As Peter said, they must obey God rather than man!

The tragedy is that this kind of charge is not supported by law or case
precedent, and police officers are misusing an anti-terrorist law as the
basis for infringing upon Free Speech.

"Christian campaigners have expressed alarm that the Public Order Act,
introduced in 1986 to tackle violent rioters and football hooligans, is
being used to curb religious free speech. Sam Webster, a solicitor-advocate
for the Christian Institute, which is supporting Mr McAlpine, said it is not
a crime to express the belief that homosexual conduct is a sin. 'The police
have a duty to maintain public order but they also have a duty to defend the
lawful free speech of citizens', he said.

As you can see, the Washington Post editorial does not base their objection
to putting a lot of pressure on Israel on the same Biblical grounds as we
Christians do. We want all pressure to divide God's Holy Land to stop
because End Times prophecy foretells great Divine Judgment upon those
nations who want to divide Israel.

Why Aren't Earth's Oldest Trees Older? [Excerpts]

The sheer girth of certain ancient, wizened trees can take one's breath
away. Wired Science recently featured a collection of images of some of
earth's oldest trees. Although the age estimates given for these antique
specimens vary from a few to tens of thousands of years, the majority of
them are consistent with a biblical timeframe for earth history.

Wired Science compiled the images and information on 12 ancient,
still-living trees.1 Of these, two are "clonal trees," which were not seeded
but presumably sprouted from underground offshoots of a now-lost original
tree. Clonal tree ages are estimated based on presumed rates of outward
spreading.

The oldest individual still-living tree is in California. Appropriately
nicknamed Methuselah, the hardy bristlecone pine from the dry and salty high
elevation of Inyo National Forest is in a protected area to discourage
visitors and vandalism.

Wired Science stated that Methuselah was 4,765 years old, but Edmund
Schulman, the pioneering scientist in determining the age of trees, dated
Methuselah by "cross-dating" (ring-counting) it at 4,789 rings.2 An online
gymnosperm database states that this age was most likely determined in 1957,
which would make the tree 4,842 years old in 2010.

Why is Methuselah, or any other long-living tree,Coming to Grips with
Genesis not a great deal older than this if the earth itself is millions of
years old? Indeed, Schulman asked regarding California's majestic giant
sequoias, which he cross-dated at just over three millennia, "Does this mean
that shortly preceding 3275 years ago all the then living giant sequoias
were wiped out by some catastrophe?"3

And how reliable is cross-dating when a variety of dates can be determined
for the same tree? Tree growth rings do not always indicate annual cycles.
Factors like weather can cause trees to form multiple rings in one year. In
the four seasons of the northern hemisphere, spring growth accounts for a
new ring. But tropical trees add a new ring of growth whenever conditions
are favorable, which can occur more than once in a year. And although the
region of California that hosts bristlecones is arid today, it is possible
that during the Ice Age it was much less so.4,5

While the differences between cross-dated tree ages and biblical chronology
can be easily accounted for with ring-generating factors other than seasons,
the differences between the trees' estimated ages and evolutionary time are
unbridgeable. The very oldest known tree better fits a biblical age for the
earth of thousands, not millions, of years.

IMMIGRATION FROM NORTH AMERICA TO ISRAEL UP

Immigration to Israel from North America during the first quarter increased
by more than 20 percent from a year earlier, according to data compiled by
Nefesh B'Nefesh and the Jewish Agency, pointing to a busy year. The Jewish
Agency compiled a report on immigration to Israel from all over the world,
but it covers only January and February. It shows that aliyah in those
months was 59 percent higher than in January and February of 2009. "The
statistics are good," said Jewish Agency spokesman Michael Jankelowitz.
According to Maya Neiger, director of resource development for the Jewish
Agency's Aliyah and Absorption Department, the new [emigrants] would be
"sitting down with all of Israel for their first Passover seder in their new
homeland."

Last year, some 3,800 Jews moved to Israel from North America - the most
since 1983. North American immigration has steadily increased since 2001,
when the number bottomed out at 1,650, according to the Jewish Agency.

"The early months of the year are not prime time for aliyah," said Prof.
Chaim Waxman, a sociologist who focuses on aliyah. "It's the middle of the
school year and many families find the summer and early fall more
convenient. If we see an increase now, we can project some increase in the
annual total."
