If you run from conflict, it eventually finds you. If you give in to
conflict, it grows even stronger and more emboldened.
The way to end conflict is to deal with it. And the way to deal
with it is to overwhelm it with a positive, determined purpose.

When you're merely fighting against something, the fighting
never ends. To permanently get beyond the conflict, work to replace it
with something far more valuable and positively compelling for all
concerned.

That is certainly not easy. It requires commitment, persistence,
and much effort in the face of difficult challenges.

Yet in the end, it is the far better choice. For rather than
perpetuating the conflict, you will have removed any reason for it to
ever reoccur.

There is a higher, positive purpose that will replace the
destructive purpose of the conflict. Do the work to bring everyone to
it.

We all make mistakes. It's a fact of life. What
matters is what you do afterwards.

You have a choice. You can let your mistake
torment you, embarrass you and hold you
back. Or, you can admit you made a mistake,
learn from it and move on.

Mistakes are lessons in disguise. You can
learn something from each and every one.
Next time you make a mistake, act quickly
and decisively. Take responsibility and
look for the lesson. Use the lesson to reach
greater success and good fortune in your
life.

Learn from your mistakes. Only then can
they empower you to greater heights.

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience,

raised a glass of water and asked "How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter.
It depends on how long you try to hold it.
If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.
In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it,
the heavier it becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management.
If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the
burden becomes

increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. "
"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while
and rest

before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on
with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.

Don't carry it home.
You can pick it up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment
if you can."

IMAGINE HEARING THIS
Author Unknown
August 31, 2011

Imagine praying and hearing this:

"Thank you for calling My Father's House. Please select one of the
following four options:

* Press 1 for requests.

* Press 2 for thanksgiving.

* Press 3 for complaints.

* For all other inquiries, Press 4."

What if God used the familiar excuse:

"All of the angels are helping other customers right now. Please stay
on the line. Your call will be answered in the order it was received."

Can you imagine getting these kinds of responses as you call on God
in prayer?

* "If you'd like to speak with Gabriel, press 1.

* For Michael, press 2.

* For any other angel, press 3."

* "If you want King David to sing you a psalm, press 6."

"For reservations at My Father's House, simply press the letters J-O-
H-N on the keypad, followed by the number 3-1-6."

"For answers to nagging questions about dinosaurs, the age of the
earth and where Noah's ark is, wait until you get here!"

"Our computers show that you have called once today already. Please
hang up immediately."

"This office is closed for the weekend. Please call again Monday."

End of message.

Thank God, you can't call Him too often!!! You only need to ring once
and God hears you. Because of Jesus, you never get a busy signal. God
takes each call and knows each caller personally. When you call and
the Lord will
answer; you will cry for help and He will say: "Here am I."

And when you call: Emergency Phone Numbers

* When in sorrow, call John 14

* When men fail you, call Psalm 27

* If you want to be fruitful, call John 15

* When you have sinned, call Psalm 51

* When you worry, call Matthew 6:19-34

* When you are in danger, call Psalm 91

THURSDAY 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR I

Col 1:9-14 / Ps 98:2-3, 3-4, 5-6 / Lk 5:1-11

COLOSSIANS 1:9-14
Because of this, from the day we received news of you, we have not
ceased praying to God for you, that you may attain the full knowledge
of his will through all the gifts of wisdom and spiritual
understanding. May your lifestyle be worthy of the Lord and completely
pleasing to him. May you bear fruit in every good work and grow in the
knowledge of God. May you become strong in everything by a sharing of
the Glory of God, so that you may have great endurance and persevere
in joy. Constantly give thanks to the Father who has empowered us to
receive our share in the in heritance of the saints in his kingdom of
light. He rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us to
the kingdom of his beloved Son. In him we are redeemed and forgiven.

LUKE 5:1-11
One day, as Jesus stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, with a crowd
gathered around him listening to the word of God, he caught sight of
two boats left at the water's edge by the fishermen now washing their
nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and
asked him to pull out a little from the shore. There he sat and
continued to teach the crowd. When he had finished speaking he said to
Simon, "Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch."
Simon replied, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing.
But if you say so, I will lower the nets." This they did and caught
such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. They
signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They
came and filled both boats almost to the point of sinking. Upon seeing
this, Simon Peter fell at Jesus' knees, saying, "Leave me, Lord, for I
am a sinful man!" For he and his companions were amazed at the catch
they had made and so were Simon's par tners, James and John, Zebedee's
sons. Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. You will catch people
from now on." So they brought their boats to land and followed him,
leaving everything.

REFLECTION
At Ateneo, one very striking lesson that cannot be forgot ten is the
saying: "Lundagin mo, Beybi!" For quite some time now, the saying has
been an expression of blind trust and confidence to just jump in and
let God dictate the flow of our lives.

The Gospel today conveys a similar message highlighting an impor tant
factor in this "let ting go" experience—that WE will have to do it.
Yes, the God of our lives will guarantee the time and place for
everything, but in essence, it is our response that will determine the
movement of our lives. Much like the act of Simon casting the net off
the boat, we are being asked to do our par t in this relationship. We
are being asked not just to wait and trust, but also to take action.
Thus, the waiting and trusting do not render to be mere passive acts;
we are to keep ourselves busy warming up and preparing ourselves
physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for that "jump"
when the time comes. Only then can we catch the net-full of blessings
and graces He has always set aside for us. So let us ask ourselves
this question today, "What preparations have we actually done to get
ready?"
